  • This is the thirty-sixth in a series of videos I’m going to produce to document the building of my Trumpeter 1:200 model Titanic. In this episode I cover the following elements:
    - Adding the A deck interior lighting.
    - Fixing some holes on the A deck scaledecks.
    - Subtle weathering of the forcastle, forward well deck, aft well deck and poop deck.
    If you want to see more regular updates have a look at my Instagram page (same name as the channel). I post photos as I'm building there so you don't have to wait for the videos to be edited!

    This model looks absolutely beautiful. I've been able to get the feel of what the Titanic looked like in real life. To bad she had such a short life. Fantastic looking model, thank you for sharing this experience with us.

    Also fantastic job as perusual, you have given me some fantastic tips for building my 1/200 titanic, I only wish it looked as amazing as yours!

    A friendly suggestion; u should lower the lights power to make them more authentic.

      Hey, I intend to actually! Just wanted to complete the lighting across all decks first because I want to complete the whole circuit before tweaking it.

    Maybe if u ad a little Pilar inside the smoking room strategically will push the floor up and won't have a gap
    Or in the floor underneath

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, there will certainly be a bit of that needed. It’s the problem with plastic of this size is that it does tend to warp / sag. There will be ways around it. I’m not too concerned about that atm, just needs a bit of gentle persuasion

  • @ingocernohorsky

    You had some open doors in the veranda Cafe. It looks like that you might see the led through the open doors. Maybe cut them a little bit shorter

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I’m tempted to do this. It’s one of those things, I tend to make a deck. And then go round and check the whole thing to see if I’m happy with it. So for now I’ll leave it but once A deck is done I may well readdress that

    Have you seen the 3d printed parts that came out for this kit? Namely smokestacks and boat deck stuff. I've seen them on other videos and theyre insanely detailed. Definitely consider it

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! I have, it’s terribly annoying actually because every time I think I have all the bits I need another even more detailed thing comes out! I am tempted by the funnels though.
      I’m going to do a review on a few of the 3D printed things in the coming week so if you’re interested in them look out for it

    I wish I could solder as good as you...still have two scars on my hand from Craft, Design and Technology circa 1986 where solder pinged off the iron and burned into my 16 year old flesh...

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah it’s all just practice. I am fortunate in that I work with electronics and electricals daily. So I get a reasonable amount of practice. Good quality solder makes a huge difference though, with a good flux. I used cheap solder for ages and then decided to spend a little bit more and the joint quality improved dramatically!

    I have a question, when you finish this ship what will you do next? I would suggest making a model of a Great Lake steamer like the ss eastland or maybe the keewatin. But there aren't any actual kits of those ships, so they'd have to be made completely by scratch. So maybe the uss saratoga or hms Belfast or something. (By the way the uss saratoga was a Lexington class aircraft carrier)

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a good question. Not entirely sure if I’m honest, I’ve got several ideas:
      - an amphibious model of James Bonds Lotus Esprit submarine car.
      - HMS Hood
      - The Hughes Glomar Explorer.
      - HMS Belfast.
      Opportunities are endless. The issue I have is I don’t have a huge quantity of space for all these boats so I might have to sell the Titanic to make a new one. I think when I get closer to the end of Titanic I will ask viewers for ideas 🙂

    • @viktorreznov2386

      Sounds like it'd be a pretty heated debate, both options have their own downsides and advantages

    Hi. I have been on some Facebook groups asking about display cases for the 1/200. I said I lived in UK and was asking for suggestions. Some great ones in US but the postage costs more than the item.
    Someone reccomended seeing yours as you're in UK. Can you let me know which one of your videos your display case is in and where you got it please? Thanks

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The details of the glass case are in the video description. The company are DSC showcases, really good quality stuff

    • @budvar123
      @budvar123 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheModelBoatGuy Thanks for the reply. I just found your video showing it and the website. Looks great.
      I noticed your suction cup holders on top. I was worried a glass case might be too heavy at that size, so I was leaning towards acrylic. Is easily liftable by one person? Thanks.

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@budvar123 yes I’d say so. I’m not a particularly strong person and I can lift it.
      I was told by the case maker that the strength of the case is in the glass rather than the wood. It feels pretty ridged when you lift it.
      The only thing that is a bit tricky is (and I’m not at this point yet) that lifting the case over a really detailed model is a bit nerve wracking because it’s relatively heavy, a light nudge will damage something.
      If you give the company a call they can tell you details of the case way better than me though 😀

    • @budvar123
      @budvar123 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheModelBoatGuy Haha thanks. That was my worry. Lifting it on and off so many times is just asking for an accident.
      I'll probably do some sort of rough cardboard or linen design for a dust cover whilst i'm building. Then use glass one when it's complete.

    • @budvar123

      Great recommendation for the display case. The guy was so nice and helpful. His delivery service is amazing too.
      Off subject, but can I ask if you treated your Scaledecks with a matt laquer or something similar? I've watched Nigel's video on it but I'm not sure if I need it. Thanks.

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nah I haven’t, i have quite a few holes to cut in this deck. Forward Grand staircase for starters, but then I’ve also got to realign the dome on the aft grand staircase and there’s a few other stair cases going up and down.
      I’ll cut them once I have a good idea where things are on the boat deck above I think 🙂

    Hey. Very nice job on the model. It's definitely on of the best ones I've seen. You're inspiring me to buy this model as well. :) One of the accuracy improvements I'd like to point out is that the Trumpeter model is actually missing two windows on the A deck. I recently explored this in a research article. Do you have an email I could send it to?

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are these the windows for the reading and writing room? I’ve added a couple of missing windows but if there’s more please let me know.
