Bear has a place in Finnish mythology and it's Finland's national animal. There's an idiom that Finns live under the North Star. One of the most significant Finnish literature works is Väinö Linna's book trilogy 'Under the North Star', which covers Finland's history from 1880 to 1950s through the lives of family Koskela. The Big Dipper is also in publishing company Otava's logo, so it's familiar sign in Finland. Bear's a sacret animal in other cultures too: "The Great Cosmic Hunt, the Oldest Story Known to Mankind".
Always always always use a beanie when hot tubbing in the -10°C or colder temperatures! You freeze your head, lose consciousness and eventually drown. Happens more often than one would think.
Asking everyone who graces us with their visit: please remember that the whole Rovaniemi region is populated by common people just like you and me. So all the domestic animals you see belong to someone (and unless told so, are not a general attraction). The houses are homes of regular folks (both Finns and Saami). Finns respect the privacy of others so please do not go touring on the yards or such without permission! The animals, also reindeers, will get sick if you feed them. Layman's right do not extend to private properties and since it is uncommon to build big fences here, please be respectful and mindful of the fact that you might be trespassing without even realizing it. Thank you in advance and welcome to Finland. 😊
@@Rolex-s1f Sadly this is due to the fact that many tourists have acted badly and the people of Lapland are tired of it. There was a big article about the issue some days ago, locals were sharing their stress concerning the matter. Some visitors act like the whole place is a sort of safari, while it certainly is not.
@@turpasauna For me it was a pleasure visiting Rovaniemi. My dream was to visit Finland since I was 13, I knew basic Suomi, and the rules are just common sence. Suomi people are the nicest, they are respectfull, they dont bother you but always helpfull. Rovaniemi is, in my eyes, the most beautifull place in Earth. I was going to move to Finland (I'm from Spain), I remember everybody thinking I was a Fin, and saying sorry, I dont speak suomi. They all smile to me and start speaking in perfect english. I ended falling in love with Icelandic people, so now I live in Reykjavik. But I still love Finland, the culture, the nature, the sauna, the lakes, and specially the music, the reindeer is just delicius... Kitos for being so awesome.
You make it sound very... uninviting. I come from an area where our economy is fueled by tourism. To enjoy the benefits we've had to learn to come to terms with some things. Unless tourists are harming the flora, fauna, or people we try to be accepting and welcoming. Our community has definitely benefited from the influx of money. So we try to show our appreciation.
Before I leave this Earth, I would love to see The Northern Lights before I die. This must of been so cool to be in this place. I hope to visit somewhere like this at some point in my life. Just not in a position right now to do so. For now, I can enjoy watching your videos and all the places you go!
I live in Wisconsin, all my life, and I am not a fan of winter! But, that igloo would be awesome to see the northern lights! Years ago, usually in January or February, we could see them in the sky on a cold, clear night. They’re so beautiful! Now that the area has built up, we no longer see them. But, I would put up with the cold to see them again!
We stayed here 8-9th December 2023 in cabin/igloo 714, absolutely loved it and they also gave us a bottle of champagne for my 60th which was a nice touch. We had driven from Levi and drove back to Levi the next day. Amazing trip, beautiful location.
I’m so lucky I can see the Northern Lights from my back garden in Inverness on a regular basis and I never get bored of seeing it. The glass house looks really good actually, though a bit on the tiny side, actually same size as a regular cabin offshore on most North Sea oil platforms but much more stylish! Lol I’m also lucky I can go skiing half an hour drive from Inverness at Cairngorm Mountain resort in Aviemore
Yeah. And you live in freezing cold and pure darkness for months on end. I wouldn't want that at all, but i bet it is pretty. I would like to see the northern lights though.

It's a good job you go these places Tim , because i dont think the average family of 4 could afford this , how the other half live eh , looks beautiful , any child or adult who is able to visit here is beyond blessed , Thank you Tim , love your videos x
Love Tim's channel but just went on another he rented a cabin for 300 pounds for four nights, fits six and is a two hour drive from Santas village- shop around it can be done :). - search "Winter Wonderland: Our Cabin In Lapland - Exploring Rovaniemi And Beyond - Finland" but give Tim a sub and a thumbs up.
Thank You for sharing Tim It’s such a shame you could not have Gaby and Casper with you. I love the snow, there is something magical about it and your glass igloo looked cosy capturing the environment outside. The main shopping area looks very Christmassy with the trees and natural snow. Hot tub was amazing outside in the snow. It’s not cheap but as you say it is Lapland. Your filming was really good as usual Tim Well Done
OMG wow!!! Im soo jealous!! I love winter and snow and dark nights and hot tubs in freezing conditions and the Aurora Borealis. If I ever win the lottery I'm relocating...thanks Tim for the vlog.
Lovely, I would like to go again I must watch your other video. I've been 3 times, 2 day trips and an overnight stay which was the best when I saw what you saw of the aurora. It's a lovely thing to do.
I’ve just discovered your channel today, Tim. I’m loving your content and your genuine, easy-going personality. You were born to do this! It makes me sad to read about the negative interaction you had with Cecilia from Svalbard (I’ve been following her for years). Sorry that happened to you. Anyway, keep doing what you’re doing and bringing these magnificent adventures to us here at home. Sending you love and warm wishes from Australia 🇦🇺♥️
First off let me say that transition from the hot tub to going to dinner was well done. Absolutely awesome. Secondly, I’m watching the video and I’m seeing like the carousel and the snowmobiles and the lighting and it’s at night. It really struck me like something out of a novel. Maybe a fantasy novel of some sort. But it really seems so surreal. You do get to go to some of the most unique and interestingP. And I as a viewer would like to say thank you for taking us along with you. I know this is your job and how you make money. But that’s OK. It’s still awesome to be able to go along with you on these adventures. Sorry about your wife not getting to go. That guy was quite a jerk. He could’ve handled that in a much more cordial and respectful business like manner. I do believe she would’ve really loved that place. But you get her passport issue taken care of and take her there. Like I said, I think you were right. She would really enjoy that. Again, thank you for sharing and posting the video. God bless.
The coldest night I stayed outside was 100km north from Rovaniemi. It was my military service, and we were out camping in a tent in December some years ago. It was -44°C. Had guard duty outside for an hour early in the morning, maybe 4am. Almost fell asleep because it was so serene. I was warm except for the tip of my nose. Good times. :)
Just stumbled on your channel and one thing that is abundantly clear is that life is about genuine experiences. Thank you for reinforcing that in a day and age of instant gratification & likes. New sub!
Apparently these igloos are built in a way so you can’t see into each others glass bedrooms. Well thought out. Fascinating video as usual. Hi from Australia. 🇦🇺👋🏻
Usually the noise from the AC/heater mini split unit is due to not periodically cleaning the mold and dust from the squirrel fan that is inside, it throws the fan off balance. It is a very common issue.
I really, really have a big problem with small portioned meals, especially when they cost as much as they do. It is so unecessary and a bit of a con. I think I'd probably have to pack plenty of snacks, pastries and biscuits, if I knew I was visiting somewhere like that. It looks like a lovely place, though, but a tad too expensive (and too cold) for me😊.
It was surprising to see that the non-igloo half of the "hotel" is just a very normal modern Finnish house! It looks like someone's home but then there's an igloo room when you go inside. As a Finn I kind of expected this very expensive hotel village in Rovaniemi to look a little more special 🤣Oh well, as long as it's a good experience for visitors, that's all that matters!
There are awesome iglu villages in finland, maybe not in rovaniemi but i think ylläs, levi etc (big skii mountains) have like actually beatifull iglu villages and even non iglu villages 10x nicer than this for similar price
Trying to work out whether the Northern Lights or the Rocky Road hot chocolate would be my highlight! Those reverse cycle air conditioning units/heat pumps tend to rattle, the one I have at home does and what I have discovered is that the mounting can be a bit loose and it makes the internal mechanism rattle a bit. If you hold it and it stops then that seems to be the problem. Jamming a piece of paper or a bit of rubber between the bottom of the unit and the wall can quieten it. May not always work but worth carrying a bit of rubber or paper to try it.
Morning Tim, great vlog and the trees look so beautiful with all that snow and woodlands, glass lodges look great and like that fact you can see skies at night and northern lights and hot tubs, would like to try one Day for experience, thanks for sharing,

Finland, see you next May 2024 for the summer but I be gone again to Mexico for the winter months. Just to cold for me now when I'm old. Being young and being a child wow, ok then great but being old and being cold, no bueno LOL.
Binge watching your videos! The Tui Sensatori didn't put me off LOL! This looks awesome! I absolutely love travelling and I love that you're trying so many different things! Amazing, thank you!
Tim excellent video as always, surprised you mentioned that airline after what happened, I wouldn't recommend them anymore. As for your dislike of cauliflour, I agree it's gross, here's a tip I was taught, marinate it over night in a curry paste/sauce, followed by roasting it. (was taught this by a Michelin chef) enjoy 👍
Brilliant vlog, all looked so pretty wuth all that snow ❄️,loved the aurora sky, lucky to see that, thanks for sharing, just a shame Gaby and Casoer couldn't go too, youll have to take them next time , take Care 😊x
Top notch video as always Tim. Keep up the great work exploring places that many of us wouldn't have thought to go. I'm a regular visitor to Tropical Islands thanks to you and I think Lapland will be next on the agenda!
Loved this video Tim. The igloos looked magic. Brought back very happy memories of two previous family holidays in Levi, Finland. Would love to go back (and stay in an igloo!)
I went skiing with friends and since I had never skied before I hired a teacher or trainer. I spent all several hours and asked to learn first how to fall down, and then how to stop. I worked on that for most of the lessons and I learned how to parallel ski not how to snow plow. Best money ever spent. I had a great time the rest of the weekend because I felt so in control knowing how to stop and how to fall. Several of my friends fell and got hurt one broke a bone because they thought they could learn on their own. Do take lessons then you will have lots of fun!
Wow looks fantastic and a whole different feeling being in the cold that we don't get to experience in the UK, - 20 temps, those igloos look nice and cosy and the restaurant area. Hope you get Gabby with you there next year in the hot tub. 😀👍
A Finnish guy here, the cold in Lapland (Inland Finland) is a bit different than in the UK, the air up here is much drier, it doesn't feel as bad as it sounds. And the houses are always warm, well insulated. For me the damp cold winter in the UK was a bit shocking at first 😁
Yep very damp here but mostly temps of about + 10c if we get an easterly wind from Scandinavia and a day time temp of say -3 it sets us all off into a panic haha @@mikrokupu
Tim - I relish your position as prime videoBLOGGER in THE ARTIC - can't complain about the heat there - BUT - everything looks so well preserved and manicured and ready for purchase. Thanxs for sharing!
I live in the Midwest and I count the days and the hours from the first day of winter until the first day of spring. I don’t handle the cold very well. But I like this video.
Also, until I recently watched the Rifftrax version of the old film 'I Believe in Santa Clause' I had never heard of Rovaniemi. In that time there is a song that uses that word. 'Stop, all your crying business (Why?) 'Cause there's a Father Christmas. He lives in Rovaniemi, that's in Lapland, you should know.' Oh, yeah, the film is a musical showcase for the leading actress who is the only one who gets to sing, but she has a pleasant voice and the songs are short.
😊🎉Beautiful view from your room Tim like a perfect picture for a living room wall or you could turn into some post cards for keep sakes😊👍 **Cozy & clean glass igloo with everything you need..**Weather similar to where my hubby graniteman & I live in the not so warm Calgary Alberta Canada..🥶Definitely nice place to visit..Just too bad furry felines are not welcomed😮🤔I do get the reason why however hubby & I keep our kitties inside for thier safety because we do have alot of wildlife lurking around & now a days it's frowned upon letting domesticated kitties roam around outside..Thanks for sharing Tim & for all your helpful info much appreciated 🤩😉👍👍👍
Exceptional vlog Tim and also great information on doing Lapland on budget.Big congratulations on hitting 1 million views on the plaza vlog.. woohoo 🎉🎉🎉
It'll be Great to compare to your prior stay with the little cabin w the Christmas tree on half deck! I'm very curious to see if you can see stars thru the glass while inside!!!
What a great place, with all the snow sports available! It would be nice to go somewhere and be able to Enjoy the snow, instead of dealing with having to shovel it all. 😉😄 A swift kick to the Nasty dude that kept Gaby and Casper from enjoying it too! 👺
It shall be interesting to see if heated glass truly works! With our big telescopes left outside overnight, we have heating thru front Optics, to keep off condensation, Hey, if you can see the Northern Lights Aurora B, just from your room! Amazing & worth it!
It is beautiful there Tim it’s absolutely gorgeous but there’s some issues I feel. The portions first of all are ridiculously bad that wouldn’t have filled me up. Second 30 quid for a portion like that for me and I only speak for myself is NOT worth it. Lastly as much as it’s beautiful there £1,500 for 2 nights is overpriced for me. Thanks for sharing Tim 👍
Fab vlog Tim. I'd definitely stay there...when my lottery numbers come up 😂 looks absolutely beautiful, very scenic and chrismassy 🎄 such a shame that Gaby and Casper missed out, there's always next year ❤
I did laugh when you say about the temperatures, I now live in Alberta Canada and -20 is still balmy temperatures, try -40 with a windchill is equivalent to -50 that's what is predicted for this coming weekend 😮
Nice videos Tim. Have been enjoying all of them. The igloo is nice but a fireplace would be nice . You know the electric kind. Just an additional cozy feel.😁
@Tim. If you are interested in learning to ski. I think it's Telford has a dry slope and they do "Ski/Snowboard in a day" when i did it about 10 years ago it was someting like about £40 you are there from like 10am until about 4pm and by about 2pm they have tought you enough that you are going from the top of the slop all on your own, so the last couple of hours you can just do oyur own thing. You wont be some master skier, but they will teach you how to turn and stop and use the ski lift (ther kind that drags you up the hill), which is all you really need to be able to have a fun day. Well worth it if you want to learn it, but dont have weeks to keep taking 1 hour lessons.
Ah Espresso House, we went to Copenhagen and tried to find a little independent coffee place and saw one which looked quite nice. We went in and had a decent albeit not great coffee and thought the place was fairly nice. We walked out of the shop and five minutes down the road and saw another one.. and then another one... And another 😂 We still joke about that nice little independent coffee shop to this day

Binge watching your videos! The Tui Sensatori didn't put me off LOL! This looks awesome! I absolutely love travelling and I love that you're trying so many different things! Amazing, thank you!
Awww poor Gaby and baby she would off loved it ❤❤xxxx looks lovelly
It’s surprisingly very affordable, wow
Tim excellent video as always, surprised you mentioned that airline after what happened, I wouldn't recommend them anymore. As for your dislike of cauliflour, I agree it's gross, here's a tip I was taught, marinate it over night in a curry paste/sauce, followed by roasting it. (was taught this by a Michelin chef) enjoy 👍
Good tip!
Liked the concept, seems like I’d want more windows or better view…
Brilliant vlog, all looked so pretty wuth all that snow ❄️,loved the aurora sky, lucky to see that, thanks for sharing, just a shame Gaby and Casoer couldn't go too, youll have to take them next time , take Care 😊x
Top notch video as always Tim. Keep up the great work exploring places that many of us wouldn't have thought to go. I'm a regular visitor to Tropical Islands thanks to you and I think Lapland will be next on the agenda!
oh wow are you! I want to go back there!
Oh wow a lovely magical place, awwwww it was a pity Gaby and casper wasn’t with you, I bet casper would love all the colourful lights.
Was Great, darn that airline, Gabby was the most pronounced component missing w you (hot tube and the rest!) Too bad cloudy however! Stay WARM Tim!
So beautiful .just in case you didn't notice .the jewl in your headboard is in the shape of the constellation The Plough.i think..
This looks so cool!! ❄️❄️
This looks beautiful.
This is lovely Tim. I wished Gaby and Thumps could have come to see it. They would have loved it. 👏🏻
I have just started following this channel. My mum & dad put me onto it. It's fab. Great way to see hotels before you book.
Great video Tim looks amazing shame Gaby and Casper couldn't make it well done xx
Thanks so much!
Tim - I relish your position as prime videoBLOGGER in THE ARTIC - can't complain about the heat there - BUT - everything looks so well preserved and manicured and ready for purchase. Thanxs for sharing!
Not sure about poor old Rudolph nailed to the wall above the headboard! 🐐
I have been there, its a must go
I live in the Midwest and I count the days and the hours from the first day of winter until the first day of spring. I don’t handle the cold very well. But I like this video.
Watching you from Bali, Indonesia
Love your channel
Such a shame Gabby and Casper couldn't join, but it looks like you had fun! :)
Can’t say I’m impressed with this one.
Loved to see your trip in finland
Exceptional vlog Tim and also great information on doing Lapland on budget.Big congratulations on hitting 1 million views on the plaza vlog.. woohoo 🎉🎉🎉
I am envious of you sir! Lapland is on my bucket list.
I really enjoy your travel videos. You go to places that I never will and travel on airlines that are so very fancy. Thank you ❤
It'll be Great to compare to your prior stay with the little cabin w the Christmas tree on half deck!
I'm very curious to see if you can see stars thru the glass while inside!!!
the video is linked at the end
What a great place, with all the snow sports available! It would be nice to go somewhere and be able to Enjoy the snow, instead of dealing with having to shovel it all. 😉😄 A swift kick to the Nasty dude that kept Gaby and Casper from enjoying it too! 👺
❤ stunningly beautiful and very well narrated Tim ❤ Only things missing The lovely Gabby and cute little Casper ❤
How Wonderful Tim. Thank U for sharing 👍👍
You are very welcome
Great video as always!
About that restaurant... for me there'd be only option :P The elk fillet
New subscriber from last night 🎉 and you have just fulfilled another dream of mine …… to see the Northern Lights at a holiday venue like this ❤
Fab vlog Tim. I'd definitely stay there...when my lottery numbers come up 😂 looks absolutely beautiful, very scenic and chrismassy 🎄 such a shame that Gaby and Casper missed out, there's always next year ❤
Absolutely ;-)
I did laugh when you say about the temperatures, I now live in Alberta Canada and -20 is still balmy temperatures, try -40 with a windchill is equivalent to -50 that's what is predicted for this coming weekend 😮
This is a dream that a lot of us would love to experience 😍❤️ Lucky you to be in that place. Awesome experience for sure!
Nice videos Tim. Have been enjoying all of them. The igloo is nice but a fireplace would be nice . You know the electric kind. Just an additional cozy feel.😁
Lapland is beautiful. You need to come see the aurora australis southren lights over Tasmania Aus.
I love your honesty!
oh my gosh it looks so cool!
Looks fantastic thanks
Ah Espresso House, we went to Copenhagen and tried to find a little independent coffee place and saw one which looked quite nice. We went in and had a decent albeit not great coffee and thought the place was fairly nice. We walked out of the shop and five minutes down the road and saw another one.. and then another one... And another 😂
We still joke about that nice little independent coffee shop to this day
Yes, it's a Swedish franchise which has spread like a cancer haha! But I have to say that for a chain they are decent.
