Favorite character? Chirrut Îmwe, the blind Guardian of the Whills.
FYI, the attacking rebel starfighters scene in this film incorporated unused footage from Episode IV so, yes, those are the original actors. Also, you see Red Five destroyed here which opens up the callsign to be used by Luke in Episode IV.

I suspected you might enjoy this one.
I was quite impressed with your saying Stardust before Jyn did. And you definitely provided your share of Star Wars quotes.
Michael Giaccino‘s music is certainly different, but he consulted John Williams‘ orchestrator to get the mood right.
The Solo music by John Powell will be even more different, despite the fact that John Williams provided the theme for Han Solo in that case.
The stormtroopers aren‘t clones at this point in time.
I haven‘t watched it, but I heard that a recent episode of The Bad Batch confirmed that the accelerated aging applied to get the clones combat-ready in 10 years continues, thus the clones are quite old by now. Also, the implanted Order 66 is no longer needed. Thus, the stormtroopers are just normal recruits.
The idea of clone stormtroopers first came up in the Thrawn trilogy of books by Timothy Zahn in the early 90s, so before the prequels. (These books kicked off the Expanded Universe, which is now considered legacy by Disney.)
But even there, Luke was surprised to be confronted by clones, which means that stormtroopers normally aren‘t.

This is my second favorite Star wars Film (my first is The Empire Strikes Back). Carrie Fisher was still alive when this was filmed but they did CGI her because Carrie was over 30 years older. Krenic's superior Wilhuff Tarkin was also in episode 4, he's the one that blew up Leia's home world of Alderan. The actor that played him (Peter Cushing) died in 1994, so he was also CGI.
The female Rebel leader (wearing the white dress) is named Mon Mothma, her character is also in Return of the Jedi, she is the one that introduced Admiral Ackbar in the scene where they plan how to destroy the death star (2.0). In Return of the Jedi the character was played by an actress named Caroline Blakiston, in Rogue One the actress is Genevieve O'Reilly. It's astonishing how much these two actresses look, act and speak alike while playing this character. Watch both these actresses play this character (one right after the other) sometime, Genevieve did an amazing job.

@@VerowakReacts i think the best way to describe his viewpoint is that he is a writer first, and everything else comes second. You have shows like mandalorian and clone wars that were made by people who live and breathe star wars and we get awesome stuff because of it but Tony Gilroy has the mindset of "how can I make this show/movie the best with my vision and then incorporate it with star wars while those like Dave filoni are "ooh what if we told this story from the expanded universe or did this event " or something like that. Right after you see the Tantive IV jump into lightspeed, it's next stop is right where A New Hope begins, with the ship arriving on Tatooine to get Obi-Wan. Unfortunately the Star Destroyer that Vader is on catches up with them beforehand and disables Leia's ship. So there is a bit of a time gap between the end of this movie and the beginning of A New Hope. There were lots of cameos by character's you'd recognize from other Star Wars films (R2D2, C3PO, Bail Organa, Gran Moff Tarkin, Mon Mothma and of course Darth Vader) and even a couple from the Rebels animated series (Chopper, the Ghost, and a call for Hera Syndulla over a loudspeaker). The reason this film didn't have the familiar scrolling text and opening theme music is because its a stand alone movie and not part of the Skywalker saga. Many fans would agree with you, this WAS a very good movie, probably the best since Disney purchased the Star Wars franchise from George Lucas.

The finale scene with Chirrut is a good explanation of why Stormtroopers are such bad shots, despite Obi-Wan saying "Only Imperial Stormtroopers are this accurate." The Force is protecting our heroes. Chirrut fulfilled his role in The Force's will, then his protection faded. Likewise, Han, Leia, and Luke are all protected from Stormtrooper fire in the original 3 movies.
Edit: Also, the finale... the door wasn't jammed. Vader was holding it with The Force. As he STILL used the force to anticipate shots, lift and crush that one soldier, pull ALL the guns from their hands..... Vader is an absolute beast.

John Williams wrote the music for the episodic Star Wars films, and would continue to do so for the sequel trilogy. In fact, he gets a cameo appearance in Episode IX.
Different composers were chosen for the 'A Star Wars Story' films specifically because they were supposed to be one-off movies not considered part of the greater Skywalker Saga. I loved Michael Giacchino's contributions to both the Star Wars films and the Star Trek films with the JJ Abrams 'Kelvin-verse' movies.
Alan Tudyc not only voiced K2-SO, but performed the motion capture of the character, walking around on stilts with a K2 head sitting like a hat atop his own head to provide the proper sight-lines for the other actors. Alan Tudyc is a brilliant yet underappreciated actor!

Despite all that he sacrificed and how vitally important his home world was for the Khyber crystals the Rebellion turned their back to him because he refused to stop targeting Imperial civilian targets. This despite the Rebellion clearly being willing to conduct assassinations and black ops missions (off the books). Saw at least was open about what he was doing. The movie really put the "war" in Star Wars. It was based off several of my favorite WW2 films, such as "The Guns of Navarone". It isn't afraid to show the Rebellion being darker. Just like irl, again in WW2, Resistance groups had to make some tough calls and take actions that would be morally objectionable if, you know, you weren't occupied by Nazis.

Thought it was funny when Daniels found out that Tudyk didn’t have to wear the robot suit Daniels said something to the effect of screw you jokingly cause he had to wear the 3PO costume. Hey, Veronique! "Rogue One" is not just the best Disney Star Wars but it's my second favorite Star Wars film after "Empire"!
Admiral Raddus was a substitute for the Mon Calamari Admiral from "Return of the Jedi", Ackbar! He's red-skinned not blue. "It's a trap!" Lol.

The significance of the film is that it shows a fragmented Rebellion consisting of disillusioned operatives who were unable to galvanize on an actionable strategy. If Jyn hadn't convinced Cassian and his volunteers to go ROGUE, the Rebellion would probably never have won its critical victory against the Empire by destroying the Death Star.
The reason Cassian killed the informant was because the guy's arm was broken and he couldn't climb out of the alcove before the stormtroopers arrived. He would have been caught and revealed what he knew under interrogation which would have alerted the Empire to the security leak and caused them to take precautions against sabotage. That would have negated the advantage of the intelligence to the Rebellion. Cassian would have preferred not to kill an asset but he couldn't let the informant be captured. He soothed him by talking calmly so he could get close enough to kill him without a struggle and spare the guy from dying in a panicked state. It's one of the things he felt he needed to atone for by volunteering for Jyn's mission at the end.
Diego Luna reprised the role of Cassian in the spin-off prequel series "Andor" which is an extraordinarily mature and gritty entry in the Star Wars canon well worth watching!
Saw Gerrera was first introduced in the animated "Clone Wars" as a young man. He was the first modern animated character to transition to live-action. His past with Jyn has never been shown but he does appear in other media.
The Guardians of the Whills was a concept introduced in this movie. They're a monastic order who protect kyber crystals which power lightsabers.
Neither Jedha nor Scarif were destroyed because Tarkin stated he didn't want to issue a Manifesto but just wanted to make a statement. He ordered a SINGLE-REACTOR IGNITION which one infers is a lower-powered blast. He made the distinction twice.
The best line goes to Vader: "Be careful not to choke on your aspirations, Director." Lol.
This movie is set 19 years after "Revenge of the Sith" and ends just hours before "A New Hope" begins! The Death Star plans featured in the Episode IV briefing are what is handed to Leia and what she later uploads into Artoo!
The likenesses of Carrie Fisher and Peter Cushing were digitally overlaid on actors portraying Leia and Tarkin because both original actors had passed away.
Alan Tudyk as K-2SO and Donnie Yen as Chirrut both nearly steal this movie!
Donnie Yen is a megastar in Asia and an amazing martial artist known for the "Ip Man" series.
The crystal pendant Lyra gave to Jyn is a kyber crystal which powers lightsabers. Her possession of it shows she's a believer in the Force which is discouraged under the Empire.
The Rebels were using the abandoned temples on the jungle moon of Yavin 4 as a base. Their defense of Yavin is the climax of Episode IV.
Every volunteer on that Scarif mission knows they're on a one-way trip but Felicity Jones delivers an incredible motivational speech!
The black-armored Death Troopers are an elite unit like Navy SEALs.
Darth Vader is absolutely SAVAGE in this film! The audience went nuts in that final scene!

That's the thing, the full story couldn't be told in 6 movies, hence The Clone Wars, Rebels, Rogue One, etc. They all add chapters to the whole story.

Immediately after the events in this movie, Leia lies to Vader's face and claims that she's on a diplomatic mission

I love that we see how obviously she's lying now when she says that to Vader 😂

Vero, the "Andor" series is set 4 years before Rogue One. In fact, they said that the last chapter of the Andor series will be he on his way to Kafrene to meet the informant who him shots later.

My favourite Star Wars at the moment:
    1. Episode IV: A New Hope
    2. Andor
    3. Rogue One
    4. Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
If you couldn't find anything bad to say about Rogue One, then you'll have even less bad things to say about Andor!
It's filmed in the same gritty style as Rogue One (being written by the same dude, Tony Gilroy) - loads of practical sets (they built an entire town to film in!) and explosions and locations; and the blasters look lethal, and the stormtroopers are elite, and actually don't miss much
But that's just the action scenes, which are ALL fantastic, and not thrown in there just for the sake of it.
But it's the characters that are super special - Andor himself, but he's just one of many, including every single "supporting" character.
The only other legacy character we see on screen is Senator Mon Mothma - same actress as Rogue One - but this time, she's AWESOME! She's a main character that gets loads of screen time, and her own story - a politician hero that secretly funds the rebellion - and feels the Imperial net tighten around her financial activities ..
Speaking of Imperials - Andor gives you a much more detailed look at how the Empire operates, and the people that work in its system. And we are introduced to some truly memorable characters.
I think I've raved enough to convince you by now - watch Andor

There's a few Easter eggs in this movie related to Star Wars rebels animated series... And soon to be another show that's coming since the character they announce over the loudspeaker in this movie will be showing up in live-action form... Can't wait to see her Ewan McGregor's wife's gonna be playing her.. She could show up in the Mandalorian season three also .. also The droid chopper is in this from the same animated series .. also Forest Whitaker is also in Star Wars rebels animated series if you ever get a chance to watch it make sure you watch the clone wars animated series first ...
Andor and Star wars rebels Animated series run side-by-side they literally start the same year which is 5 BBY .... BBY Stands for before the battle of yevin Which is the battle with the death star in the first movie When Luke skywalker blows it up..

The rebel base is Yavin, so its the same squadrons that would attack the original death star (just a few days after the events of Rogue One) with Luke assigned to Red squadron.

That makes perfect sense. I feel like I missed a lot of things from the original trilogy since it was my intro to the universe, so I definitely need to rewatch them
