      Good thought Jimmy! Something better, some of my best bird dogs are tow truck drivers. Three years ago a lady had a car accident in front of our deal, anyway, our lady manager had her come inside to keep the kids cool (we are a Florida deal). Anyway, no we didn't sell her a car, didn't even try but the lady wrote a nice letter to us and her husband had a electrical business as I recall. Anyway we do buy here - pay here, this gals husband remembered us and bought a employee who was down on his luck to buy a van from us. Don't remember how that deal ended up, they paid for it I guess. The point I am trying to make Jimmy is get to know tow truck drivers, body men etc. So many of the new cars that suffer collision damage are NEVER repaired if all the air bags deploy. BTW, I got fired from a AMC-Jeep dealer back in the day handing out cards at the scene of a accident (was thinking about becoming a lawyer after that scrape).

    I'm retired and thinking of the car business as a 3rd career. Forgive the basic/simple question. Is an "Up" a sale to a person who walks on the lot?

    • @DealerPlaybook
      @DealerPlaybook  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Michael, thanks for checking out this podcast episode and for the question. An "Up" is how we refer to a new customer opportunity when a customer walks through the doors of the dealership. Many dealerships have a round robin approach to who gets the "up" so as to avoid a shark tank scenario.

    For every commenter bringing the negativity- Every car you see on the road was bought at least once. Somebody made money from that sale. It CAN be done with purposeful work and a positive attitude. Maybe you could sell a car a day if you'd stop whining and check yourself before you type nonsense.

      Is not always the case, although is good to create value, focus on the customer needs “hot buttons”, most of the times the customers will tell you how to sell them a car you just have to ask the right questions. For example found out as much as you can about their current car(things they like, this they don’t like and things they would like to have on their new car). For example if the customer is looking for safety, show them the safety features, crash ratings, airbags, abs etc and do not kill yourself selling them the horsepower of the car. Key is listening to the customers and understanding their needs and execute.

    The worst investment you will ever make is an automobile.

    • @dryanp1981wilmywood
      @dryanp1981wilmywood 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      bigdogpete43 automobiles shouldn't be considered an investment, but a reasonable solution for transportation. Do you know anybody trying to buy a new or used car?

    • @bigdogpete43
      @bigdogpete43 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      dryanp1981wilmywood When they cost $40K they definitely are an investment, just a really bad one. There are much better uses for your money, like spending it on assets that appreciate instead of things that lose 20% in value per year. Dealers should be upfront and figure in depreciation to their customers payment as their true cost of ownership. But then nobody would be fool enough to buy one.

    • @espottz1
      @espottz1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      First bigdogpete43, sure you can spend that money on appreciating assets, but first you have to make the money. In order to make the money you must have piece of mind that you are able to get to work reliably every single day. If you spend very little on a junker how many times are you going to have to make that phone call to the boss, "Sorry I need to replace my (insert part here), my car wouldn't start today." ?
      So it is not an investment in that piece of metal. It's an investment in yourself and your ability to make money. That vehicle is worth more than the $40,000 you're paying for because...... If you're paying 40, and making a smart choice with a $600/month payment then that means your income supports the purchase which means you're making at least $60-80,000/ year at least. So that $600/mo allows you to make $6,000/mo and over the term of the loan you've made $480,000 and you sell the car for $10,000 bringing your total investment to $30,000 and getting 5 years of reliable safe travel... Now as a salesman I would agree why do you want to spend $40,000 on a car?
      Who gives a shit, buy a cheaper one but bottom line is if you want to be successful in life, reliable transportation is key

  • @Boxtruckliving707
    @Boxtruckliving707 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1
