When it comes to big developers and publishers, the priority of mainstream media and TH-camrs who prioritize access over integrity, is to stay on the good graces of them, then being very linient when reviewing most AAA releases. And then they overcompensate with smaller titles like this, since there is no access to lose here, no big launch events to be flown to with paid hotels, sponsorships for the outlet, etc. Yes of course many TH-camrs play that game too, but there are many, many channels that prioritize consumers and integrity above that stuff, and that becomes evident in their behaviour and reviews. People like Skill Up-Laymen Gaming for example have been blacklisted by studios for their critical stance on their BS, and they keep being as critical of them no matter what. So it's just a matter of looking and evaluating, but as you say, you have better chances of finding honest critics here, while in mainstream media you're almost certain that they're all terrible.

Very happy you mentioned it, I was thinking it's like Hellblade+Brothers too. All story driven, the "good" kind of linear, immersive, smaller (as in not "fully AAA priced") games that positively surprised me.
Saw the trailer for this game and was mildly interested. Decided to pick it up and it's got my nomination for GOTY in just how well it executed what it set out to do. I feel games these days try to juggle too many things at once, but this is a focused experience.

Another Great AA game that shows that you don't need a Big Budget to create emotional, great looking and fantastic games. though, they all seem to fall when it comes to combat, but story-telling is always beyond standard.

Really really enjoyed the game. I was blown away by the voice acting, especially when I learned that the actors were around the same age as the characters they portrayed, and the graphics. Spent about 15 minutes in photo mode at the beginning of the game admiring how good the environment and characters look. Loved the main character too
I've tried a BUNCH of times to get into this game over the course of about 2 years, but couldn't play more than 30 minutes. Finally, I just pushed through and I am BEYOND grateful that I did. This game is an absolute masterpiece and I can't wait to start the sequel tomorrow.
I remember only seeing one ad for this game a few months ago and thinking it looked special. The story, voice acting, music, I was very interested. Later on I couldn't remember the name or find info on it, so I'm happy this just showed up on my recommended. Also it looks like my initial impressions on this weren't all totally unfounded. I definitely plan on picking this up, we need to support more fresh/new IP's like this.

Just wanna say that I love it that you do reviews on lesser known titles like this. Another great video by the best and most consistent reviewer out there.
The only DLC that this game contains is 3 different coat of arms robes that Amecia can wear during the game but other that that this game is amazing! And in my opinion it's really good to see a game portray the Black Death in such a creepy and shocking way it is very good and I'm a sucker for Medieval games it's amazing!! And the brother and sister relationship between Amecia and Hugo is quite relatable.
Too bad this will be the sleeper hit of the month/ maybe the year. Most people this month will just pick up Rage 2 or sonic this month, which theres nothing wrong with that, but this seems like a really cool game

I have noticed this this game since it was released and wasn't sure it was for me so I overlooked it.......until I heard the Hellblade comparisons Started playing it this week and WOW! The mechanics are simple enough to not be distracting and the story is amazing so far, I haven't been bored yet. Beautiful scenery & graphics and the music and voice acting are great.

Currently playing Mordhau and this little gem here. both games made my a ridiculously small team, yet they have so much more heart, soul and overall quality, its insane. Just a lil while ago, I played Katana Zero and had one of the most fun I've had with a videogame in a very long time and it was made by a single guy. keep it up indie devs. you the best out there
This game is incredible, I didn't want it to end. It's beautiful, it's immersive, it's dark and brutal, and it's heartwarming. It's definitely up there with my favourite games.
Yeah, it really resonates with me too. I binged MKIceandFire's seven-hour walkthrough and I didn't want it to end. It's so adorable in terms of the sibling relationship. The music is incredible and made me cry on a few occasions. I really hope this isn't the last we see of A Plague Tale because I would love to see more of these titles. Hope it sold enough for the developers to warrant a sequel or spin-off or whatever.
3rd person action adventure game about a Parent/Parental figure escorting their child/child surrogate is becoming the new default game these days; like Platformers, FPS, and Open World games were before.
I had a good laugh when I saw that one of the tags for this game on steam was 'female protagonist'. Gee, I didn't know my favourite genre of game was male protagonist. Goes to show the status quo and what people's expectations are.
I recognised _A Plague Tale's_ composer immediately. Same fellow who scored Dontnod's _Vampyr_ (also published by Focus Home Interactive). The soundtrack made that otherwise middling game memorable, and it seems like this one will be similarly elevated.

This game felt like someone wrote a very good historical fiction/fantasy/horror novel…and also just happened to have a team of extremely skilled video game developers. And I loved it.

A Plague tale, astral chain and control are some of the games that piqued my interest the most as I've been looking at the upcoming games lists. Plague tale had trailers for a while, but I don't have too many clues about how astral chain and control will be.
Focus and excellent pacing are probably two of the best factors of this game, and ones I haven't seen discussed that often. Yeah, it's a niche game gameplay-wise and even story-wise at times, but if it's your jam, this game should delight you. Fair review, thanks for the video.

Don't know if if you saw the recent little nightmares 2 review by IGN but they gave that a 7 as well when the game is clearly an 8 or probably 9 according to player reviews. Don't trust IGN's opinion at all
What a fantastic game ..it has become one of my favorite game if all time. Compare it with another teen game TLOU2, Plague Tale shines in story, character motivations. It does not delve into edgy teen soap opera drama, just platinum the day the sequel trailer got released. Please don't overlook this game..Can't wait for Plague Tale: Requiem.
There was a bit of jank that held me back from purchasing Vampyr on day one, and the graphics looked a little wonky. This game on the other hand is stunning, so glad I brought it. Am a quarter of the way through it and it has such a fantastic atmosphere.
Mentioning that the feeling of the game transforms into this “Middle Age goonies adventure” was a perfect description for what I also experienced. Thanks to your review this was the first game I bought for the PS5 and it definitely is now on my top ten list (of all time) . Thanks ACG .
The game is an absolutely masterpiece in storytelling. I really appreciated the paired-down game mechanics that brings a focal quality you don't see in many games today. For once, we get a game that doesn't throw everything and the kitchen sink at you and a bunch of convoluted mechanics, but instead focuses on what it wants to accomplish and does it really well.
I'm so glad this came up on this channel. Literally just went on Steam to have a browse and this game was in my recommended. Had never heard of it before, but suddenly there was what looked like a big-budget AAA title that apparently came out of absolutely nowhere - I'd seen no marketing for it at all. First reaction was, 'This is a Last of Us rip-off'. Then I thought, 'Well, even if it is, TLOU is bloody incredible so even if it's half as good as that game it'll still be excellent'. I don't ever normally buy games full price so I'll probably wait until a Steam sale, but this definitely looks promising. Thanks for the review.

Idk I bought vampyre day 1 and 'til this day a gamebreaking bug persists, to which their support forum is still getting complaints. It's a level of laziness I had yet to experience in a game tbh. I was loving it too and i do hope they patch it eventually but I'm doubtful. End rant.

Agreed. After reading both reviews, A Plague Tale is surprisingly longer than Rage 2. You can finish Rage 2 campaign in just 7 to 8 hours.

ACG reviews are ALWAYS my first stop for new games coming out and they have never steered me wrong yet in all the time I've been watching them! Thanks for reviewing this one. As a slinger, I was really excited to see our weapon actually portray so prominently in a game, and I cannot wait to play this one when it comes out!
Just wanna say that I love it that you do reviews on lesser known titles like this. Another great video by the best and most consistent reviewer out there.
The only DLC that this game contains is 3 different coat of arms robes that Amecia can wear during the game but other that that this game is amazing! And in my opinion it's really good to see a game portray the Black Death in such a creepy and shocking way it is very good and I'm a sucker for Medieval games it's amazing!! And the brother and sister relationship between Amecia and Hugo is quite relatable.
Too bad this will be the sleeper hit of the month/ maybe the year. Most people this month will just pick up Rage 2 or sonic this month, which theres nothing wrong with that, but this seems like a really cool game
No real combat in this game...say what you will but most gamers wanna directly interact with a game and violence is usually the means.
I'd happily buy this game, if i wasnt worried that i'd finish it in two days.
I won't be buying those games but I'll probably check this out. a lot of the games I have played lately are as big as an ocean and shallow as a puddle. This looks refreshing 👌
Luckily I play all sorts of games so I got this and Rage 2. Couldn't be more different and I love that.

Wow. Didn’t expect to come on TH-cam and find a lowkey dope game! I love these slower paced story driven games.
I have noticed this this game since it was released and wasn't sure it was for me so I overlooked it.......until I heard the Hellblade comparisons Started playing it this week and WOW! The mechanics are simple enough to not be distracting and the story is amazing so far, I haven't been bored yet. Beautiful scenery & graphics and the music and voice acting are great.
Just finished the game to work on my French and surprisingly found the best games I've played all year. Tried to tell my French fiancée about it, but she's not very interested... yet

I'm so grateful for these smaller gamestudios. otherwise gaming would be truly dead for me. Currently playing Mordhau and this little gem here. both games made my a ridiculously small team, yet they have so much more heart, soul and overall quality, its insane. Just a lil while ago, I played Katana Zero and had one of the most fun I've had with a videogame in a very long time and it was made by a single guy. keep it up indie devs. you the best out there
I have played Ico, The Last Guardian, Brothers a tale of two sons, the last of us, hellblade. I like all of em. Glad I pre ordered this game too.

This game is incredible, I didn't want it to end. It's beautiful, it's immersive, it's dark and brutal, and it's heartwarming. It's definitely up there with my favourite games.
Yeah, it really resonates with me too. I binged MKIceandFire's seven-hour walkthrough and I didn't want it to end. It's so adorable in terms of the sibling relationship. The music is incredible and made me cry on a few occasions. I really hope this isn't the last we see of A Plague Tale because I would love to see more of these titles. Hope it sold enough for the developers to warrant a sequel or spin-off or whatever.
The armor and clothing texture look awesome. But the flower texture at 4:07 haha.
3rd person action adventure game about a Parent/Parental figure escorting their child/child surrogate is becoming the new default game these days; like Platformers, FPS, and Open World games were before.
I loved Brothers, Rain, and Ico! Don’t mind these types of games.

I had a good laugh when I saw that one of the tags for this game on steam was 'female protagonist'. Gee, I didn't know my favourite genre of game was male protagonist. Goes to show the status quo and what people's expectations are.
I recognised _A Plague Tale's_ composer immediately. Same fellow who scored Dontnod's _Vampyr_ (also published by Focus Home Interactive). The soundtrack made that otherwise middling game memorable, and it seems like this one will be similarly elevated.
Whenever there's a new game i always go to this channel. Even if i buy them or not i just enjoy watching your content.

This game felt like someone wrote a very good historical fiction/fantasy/horror novel…and also just happened to have a team of extremely skilled video game developers. And I loved it.

i went for rage 2 for i usually pick a game with lot of action to have some venting after a frustrating day at work.tho,not gonna lie this sounds interesting.
A Plague tale, astral chain and control are some of the games that piqued my interest the most as I've been looking at the upcoming games lists. Plague tale had trailers for a while, but I don't have too many clues about how astral chain and control will be.
The graphics kinda reminds me of The Witcher 3. The overall game looks amazing.
Focus and excellent pacing are probably two of the best factors of this game, and ones I haven't seen discussed that often. Yeah, it's a niche game gameplay-wise and even story-wise at times, but if it's your jam, this game should delight you. Fair review, thanks for the video.

Don't know if if you saw the recent little nightmares 2 review by IGN but they gave that a 7 as well when the game is clearly an 8 or probably 9 according to player reviews. Don't trust IGN's opinion at all

What a fantastic game ..it has become one of my favorite game if all time. Compare it with another teen game TLOU2, Plague Tale shines in story, character motivations. It does not delve into edgy teen soap opera drama, just platinum the day the sequel trailer got released. Please don't overlook this game..Can't wait for Plague Tale: Requiem.

The game is definitely dope but I don't understand how it's raining in some places in the game yet Amicia is still able to light fires in rain.

There was a bit of jank that held me back from purchasing Vampyr on day one, and the graphics looked a little wonky. This game on the other hand is stunning, so glad I brought it. Am a quarter of the way through it and it has such a fantastic atmosphere.
Vampyr is in game pass so no reason for people not to try it out.
What game would you compare Vampyr too? I passed on it when it came out but I’m intrigued by the story. Thanks.

The game is an absolutely masterpiece in storytelling. I really appreciated the paired-down game mechanics that brings a focal quality you don't see in many games today. For once, we get a game that doesn't throw everything and the kitchen sink at you and a bunch of convoluted mechanics, but instead focuses on what it wants to accomplish and does it really well.

This seems like another AA game like Hellblade. We really need more of them. Especially with AAA publishers being what they are these days.
I'm so glad this came up on this channel. Literally just went on Steam to have a browse and this game was in my recommended. Had never heard of it before, but suddenly there was what looked like a big-budget AAA title that apparently came out of absolutely nowhere - I'd seen no marketing for it at all. First reaction was, 'This is a Last of Us rip-off'. Then I thought, 'Well, even if it is, TLOU is bloody incredible so even if it's half as good as that game it'll still be excellent'.
I don't ever normally buy games full price so I'll probably wait until a Steam sale, but this definitely looks promising. Thanks for the review.

Idk I bought vampyre day 1 and 'til this day a gamebreaking bug persists, to which their support forum is still getting complaints. It's a level of laziness I had yet to experience in a game tbh. I was loving it too and i do hope they patch it eventually but I'm doubtful.
