Finished the game yesterday, it was great, highly recommended for everyone interested in good characters and story. Also I liked the idea of the slingshot as a weapon, it's often overlooked by most games, you might say "it's a slingshot" to which I would say: "read your history, slingshots were used as weapons in hunting, skirmishes and even battles for thousands of years". The story is dark and has elements of fantasy, it's medium fantasy, don't expect wizards running around flying in broomsticks but there are magical elements specially at the finale. Nier Automata was PAINFULLY boring. I dumped 15-20 hours into it because Skill Up hyped the crap out of saying it was the most underrated game and worth hours of fun. though Hellblade didn't deserve a 9/10. More of a 7.5 or barely 8. It had good graphcis. The Fighting mechanics did feel alright even though it was easy by the end. But story was weak with the ending message being kill yourself if you have psychosis, so yeah wasn't as good as A plague tale, innocence.

Very late this this review, but I just replayed Innocence in prep for Requiem's release in October. Such a wonderful game, and yet another great example of what happens when a game is made with lots of passion and a clear vision.
My favorite game this month. It's linear for sure but that chill and constant progression to the story and gameplay just made me play from start to end, kinda like God of War's progression.
Binged this whole game in two sittings. It was that good, I couldn't stop playing. Really blown away by what the studio has accomplished here. Amicia's voice actor in particular just absolutely nailed the character.
I really like when countries make games that has this amazing local feeling... I think games can do very good job at telling fascinating things about culture and reach more people than movies or books. French are going crazy good with game dev.
Man, your reviews are of such exceptional quality, and they just keep getting better and better. You've become one of the greats in a sea of mediocrity on TH-cam, and for aiming higher than the rest, I thank you. I tend to trust your reviews implicitly because you've never been wrong about a game in my book. Keep up the good work!
Your comments about this game's soundtrack gave me chills from head to toe. Far too often, music is overlooked - as an aspiring vgm/ost composer this is pretty hard to deal with. Your short commentary on this score legitimises what we composers do, and I can't tell you how much that means to me.
I’m wrapping up my first playthrough of this game now that it hit game pass and the sequel is coming here soon. I can’t believe I slept on this title for so long. I immediately switched the voice acting to French though and I will say, if you don’t mind the subtitles, this is absolutely the way to experience the story. I’m sure the English is serviceable, if not pretty good in most areas, but I haven’t heard a single line spoken in French that didn’t sell the emotions perfectly. That ranges from the main characters down to the npc thugs. Oh and also I really dig the gameplay. Cannot wait for the sequel.
I remember seeing an ad for this a couple months ago and liking it, but not investigating more. After this review I went and bought it. Thank you Ralph for shedding light on it. Great premise and I live for story based games.
Super happy to see that you tried this game and made this video about it. This game and Hellblade make me wonder what the hell are big studios doing, having teams with hundreds or thousands of people with budgets of hundreds of millions of dollars, and still now they release consistently unfinished and broken AAA games. Meanwhile these AA titles can look like this, tell more interesting stories and don't seek to exploit the gamers with awful monetization schemes. Now I'm often way more interested in this kind of projects and I think that they are very good for the industry in general.
This series just amazing. I don't have all the money in the world but i do love games and this videos help me to find good shit that I will buy instead of just downloading because I want to support good and hardworking developers that deserve it. You make amazing content, love your way of making videos, skill up
I chose to play it in French, with English subs, for better immersion. Well, maybe the English soldiers who speak perfect French take you out of it for one of the chapters, but otherwise the voices and setting are truly marvelous. This game was a breath of fresh air in a mess of live services bullshit.
I remember playing the toy story 3 game when it came out. It was a wonderfully fun game and I thought all the quality came from it being a Disney IP and them taking a weird level of care with toy story. Now it appears that it was a joint effort. The game follows the toy story 3 story to a T however the biggest deviation occurs at the very end. In the movie this is the point where Andy and Bonnie play with the toys together. It's a short scene in the movie you get to see Andy put Woody on his back like he used to when he was a kid and it's very nostalgic to watch. But if you play the game it pulls on every emotional heartstring that has been built up mostly by the movie by letting you actually play through their playscape as the characters. It makes that last scene when Andy drives away all the more painful. It's very clear to me that Walt Disney had some input Asobo understood how to create an effective emotional payoff. I feel like a plague tale is a cultimation of every minor technique that they learned in their previous titles masterfully exhibited for all of us to enjoy.
And this post here helps prove why games are better than movies. You can feel allot more of what's going on and the story itself by actually existing in it. Movies will never replicate that
I seriously can't wait to see what Asobo follows up this title with. I was hooked through my entire playthrough. Thanks for giving them this extra bit of publicity! They deserve it.
If the stealth mechanics don't annoy you for how dumb the Ai is and you have the dough, do it. I watched all 7hrs of the game and I can say it kept me to the end.
It does look good. Anyone on the pro with 4k tv? It seems a little blurry or soft. It takes nothing away from the game it's a great game I was just wondering.
I saw it on ads from Facebook and knew it would be similar to The Last of Us in a good way. It exceeds my expectations and that's a welcome change of pace. If you look at what the devs made it's pretty amazing they made this masterpiece
Skill Up should take a look at Ghost of a Tale. More or less made by one man and the result is stunning. The level of quality, attention to detail and the amazing support of the game with patches, bug fixes, engine upgrades and answering questions from fans on Steam is a wonder to see. Please give this little gem of a game some love.
When i saw the trailer on Xbox live the other day, my initial thought was, "is this a "Brothers" game?" bit looks like so much more. And then you come out with this video. Genius! Now let's watch!
Good review Fella from down unda. Question. Do you have ACG's tags in your video? You came up under the "never touch" search but you never say that and its now in the last 2 or 3 reviews tags with Wait for Sale and Rent showed up. Never saw that happen until Rage I think.

It's extremely difficult to hit my personal top 5 but this game absolutely smashed it out of the park. Beautiful graphics that tie perfectly with the game play and music. Perfect performance even with millions of rats on screen. Perfect mix of story, love, horror and terror. INSANELY awesome score that tied everything together like glue. Honestly 10/10 game. Easily

Just downloaded and beat it in a few sittings with the games pass. What a gem; one of my favorite games I’ve played in a while. It’s straightforward, fun, and provokes enough thought behind your moves to keep a basic game play loop refreshing. The soundtrack is amazing and one of my favorites in any game ever.
Think I will get this for the wife she loves story drive gaming it is one of her huge 3 pillars of enjoyment. Plus it is always nice to support the lesser known indi like studios in this age when 75% of all triple a games are either soulless sequels and prequels or worse yet loot box micro-transactions in full priced games with the 17 types of pre order bonuses.......
I’ve seen a few other dry positive reviews on this but feel like I didn’t really understand why it was so well liked until now. Thank you for eloquently describing it’s strengths.
I worked with Asobo on Kinect Rush. I remember when we first got some Ratatouille levels to test, the rat fuzziness quotient was just super amazing (for the time). They’re great people, hope they keep making great titles.
I just beat the game myself. My goodness the shots were fantastically beautiful. This game made me fear rats on a level I never thought possible. 10/10
6:33 "How the hell did a studio we never even heard of make a game this beautiful?" They don't 😂 they used Quixel which is an asset library of photo-scanned meshes.
While I wasn't a fan of the final hour of gameplay - which suddenly turns into a combat-heavy grind after 10 hours of tense stealth and thoughtful progression - the rest of the game makes it entirely worth the price you might spend on it. I bought it at release and was blown away for 99% of the experience.

You are my first port of call for all reviews, love this series, so please do more. This game looks ace, Thanks
I remember seeing an ad for this a couple months ago and liking it, but not investigating more. After this review I went and bought it. Thank you Ralph for shedding light on it. Great premise and I live for story based games.
Love this video series man! Best idea ever! Keep em coming 👌
Literally was searching up if you did a review on this, then I get the notification!
A plague tale innocence is a triple a indie. Here is a tip play it with french language. This is my favourite game released this year.
Can't wait to see what this studio does next. 👍
And then they made Flight Sim.. What a multi talented studio.
This series just amazing. I don't have all the money in the world but i do love games and this videos help me to find good shit that I will buy instead of just downloading because I want to support good and hardworking developers that deserve it. You make amazing content, love your way of making videos, skill up
I've honestly been waiting for you to review this for MONTHS. Much excite.
I chose to play it in French, with English subs, for better immersion. Well, maybe the English soldiers who speak perfect French take you out of it for one of the chapters, but otherwise the voices and setting are truly marvelous. This game was a breath of fresh air in a mess of live services bullshit.
What a beautiful, respectful and reasonible review. Thank you
I remember playing the toy story 3 game when it came out.
My god this game looks absolutely stunning. Really tempted to buy this, thanks for another amazing review.
If the stealth mechanics don't annoy you for how dumb the Ai is and you have the dough, do it. I watched all 7hrs of the game and I can say it kept me to the end.
@@riptidev10 I can definitely forgive the dumb AI because the concept and the environments look amazing.
It does look good. Anyone on the pro with 4k tv? It seems a little blurry or soft. It takes nothing away from the game it's a great game I was just wondering.
@@1985NEVETS you need a gaming PC to get the amazing visuals.
Awesome review dude. Easily the best review channel on the platform.
Glad you did a review for this gem of a game...
Hope it gains more popularity
Love it when you get both a review and a small look at history.
Thank you, finally a review about this game from you.
Kaizoku O ni
Orewa nara
The opening of the video just killed me 💀 I wasn't expecting that.🤣
Lucas is THE BEST CHARACTER in the game. Love him.
Lol smash ultimate players
I saw it on ads from Facebook and knew it would be similar to The Last of Us in a good way. It exceeds my expectations and that's a welcome change of pace. If you look at what the devs made it's pretty amazing they made this masterpiece
Just completed it two days ago absolutely loved it I think it’s the game of the year so far
Amicia look the Ackiduck!
Hugo is the aqueduct not the Ackiduck
@@Lonewolf_21 Hugo: Oh...acki..duck...aque..AQUEDUCT!!! Amicia: Hugo, climb up here.
Hugo: Yes!
My best gaming experience of the year so far. Without a doubt.
Hahaha. Nice joke, man.
@@velvetcrowe5548 😳😳😳😳
What was the joke?
Sorry, flew right away my little head.
@@GuiiBrazil The fact that you think this was the best gaming experience of 2019. Come on, man.
@@velvetcrowe5548 ok buddy, you clearly need some attenion. So, come on, what`s YOUR favorite gaming experience of the years so far?
Bro you make the absolute best videos. I love all your reviews, and literally look forward to every new laymen video too. Keep up the great work.
usually i go and buy the games you recommend after seeing the vid but this one i'm already playing while watching this
Kudos to the 45 people that made this game! Hope they don't suffer the Telltale curse of getting CEOs who want to bite more than they can chew.
Thank you for reccomending GRIS to me, it is my favourite game in a long long while
When i saw the trailer on Xbox live the other day, my initial thought was, "is this a "Brothers" game?" bit looks like so much more.
Thank you for reviewing games out of AAA box everybody is talking about ! Thank you for you taste and professional approach. Please don't stop ! We need such deep reviews.
Whoa Captain America went back in time and became a TH-camr!
Just finished this game.
From the character interactions; the music score; the pure darkness of terror from the rats, it's so worth playing.
Plus, the boss fight was one of if not THE weirdest boss battle I've ever done.
Skill Up: a premise we haven't seen before *So rat plagues are something new in games huh?*
Me: Proceeds to get flashbacks on the first Dishonored game
Sorry, i couldn't resist
I played this and now youtube is recommending me tones of videos on it.
This game is probably in my top 5 most favourite games. Easily
YooooOo this game is fucking pretty holy shit
I'm so impressed what indie studios can do now. It's crazy, man. Just crazy.
Thx for the tip. Your helping the artsy stuff rise to the top I appreciate you.
It’s the first “rat-like” game
This game was no doubt my favorite of 2019. Absolutely incredible story with surprisingly smooth gameplay. 10/10. Thanks to you Skill-Up!
Absolutely loved this game probably my favorite game of 2019 soo far! Just glad I beat it before watching this just because you showed a few things I woulda wanted to experience first hand. None the less great review man keep up the fantastic work!
Skillup by far has the best game reviews! Great channel
You should consider using only footage played with a controller; The erratic mouse movements are just not as nice to look at.
I just started your video and I think this is an excellent idea. I would love to see more reviews of indie games, and your comments of them. Keep up the good work.
@9:20 So what genre is it, a stealth babysitting simulator?
Just downloaded and beat it in a few sittings with the games pass. What a gem; one of my favorite games I’ve played in a while. It’s straightforward, fun, and provokes enough thought behind your moves to keep a basic game play loop refreshing. The soundtrack is amazing and one of my favorites in any game ever.
Papa Shill says "Buy the game" so I buy the game.
It's as simple as that.
If EA made this game, they would add a multiplayer mode with 6 DLC maps and loot boxes that give the player different pesticides
So few internet reviewers are trustworthy today. You, however are among the best.
I just beat the game myself. My goodness the shots were fantastically beautiful. This game made me fear rats on a level I never thought possible.
10/10
Best 15 minute Dollar Shave Club advert ever.
6:33 "How the hell did a studio we never even heard of make a game this beautiful?"
They don't 😂 they used Quixel which is an asset library of photo-scanned meshes.
