No way to tell if it is a LS6 without the build sheet. A 396/402 car could have the F41 suspension. The infamous L on the tag is still a mystery. Thanks for sharing. I learned that from Patrick Glen Nichols, BTW.

    • @michaelwelling9588

Patrick Glenn Nichols doesn't say the L is a mystery, he says that most experts agree that the L indicates SS equipment.

Why don't you just say what it is it's most likely a big block SS Chevelle instead of just keep saying it's this what makes it an LS6 the sway bar doesn't make it an LS6 it makes it a big block disc brakes don't make it an LS6 steering shaft doesn't make it an LS6

I cant believe someone would let a car like this just sit and rot away because "Im gonna rebuild it one day" is about 15 years to late and they would rather see the car rot into the Earth before another man owns it

I love your videos but how are you able to say this was an LS6? You are pointing out several things that might say SS, but not an LS6. You need paperwork for that, and I do not see how that could even be available for this one in its condition. I was told a long time ago the only way to even document a 70 Chevelle is an SS is to look inside the quarter windows to see if the Malibu molding holes had been filled. If a 70 Chevelle SS ever had quarters replace there is no way to document without paperwork and numbers matching pieces.

He hasn't convinced me the chevelle is a ls6 car .
    I owned an ls6
    Who is to say it's not a ls5 car or a 396 car 6
If the car is a true ls6 car it's worth fixing .
Give me a price and a location if you can convince me the car is a real ls6 car I would buy it
This guy is saying its a ls6 car because of suspension.
The f41 suspention was an option that also came standard on the ls5 chevells .
Nothing he said proves its a ls6 chevelle

The cowl tag for the Chevelle is missing, eh? Probably some, "honest", person took it to make a fake Chevelle LS-6 and sell it to some unsuspecting person. Only thing is, that's a federal crime and carries a punishment of many years in jail. Not too smart.

    • @michaelwelling9588
      @michaelwelling9588 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

The cowl tag does not have any information regarding engine size so it would be worthless to use to try to counterfeit an LS6.

Cool story, bro. I agree with others that without the engine, dealer paperwork or build sheet, it can’t be determined if it’s a real LS6. Another thing is LS6 cars had a higher redline on the rack than other SS cars, but I see that the gauge cluster is gone.

In 1970, I ordered a 70 SS 454 LS-6 , 4 speed 4:10 posi, black with white interior and stripes, I traded the Yenko in on it when it came in. The good old days! 👍

CRV axle code is for posi 3.31 gears and was also available in LS 5 SS Chevelles. An LS6 car could also have a CRW code 12 bolt which would be 4.10 gears. The F41 heavy duty suspension with the large front sway bar was standard on all 70 SS's regardless of whether it had an L34, L78, LS5 or LS6. SS wheels were also standard on all SS's. All 70 SS's were big blocks and the frame motor mounts don't tell you anything. I'm pretty sure small block non SS cars had the same frame mounts. You referred to the deck lid stripes as LS6 stripes and implied that cowl induction was only available on LS6 cars. That is incorrect. Cowl induction hood and D88 stripes were available on all SS's regardless of the engine. The stripes were standard on the functional cowl induction hood but had to be ordered with the standard non-functional SS hood. Although the Chevelle appears to be an SS, nothing that you showed on the video proves that the car is an LS6.

There is a difference in the Big Block valve covers. The correct ones have drip rails or "fingers" tack welded on the inside to drip oil onto the rocker ball. You'll notice on the chrome valve cover little "dimples" in the chrome. Those were correct on the 454.

When looking at the hole and grommet for the vacuum hoses for the ‘69 RS, you mentioned it was like the ‘67. Actually, ‘67 had electric motors for the hideaway headlights, and GM switched to a vacuum setup in ‘68 to save money, which was idiotic for the consumer.
Not trying to nitpick tho, as your videos are entertaining and informative

Folks never thought these cars would be with 50x what they bought them for, my buddy bought a 69 Chevelle 396 in 73 for 800 bucks. Lol of course he beat the stuffing out of it blown the moter and sold it to old style wreaking yard for 35 bucks. We were clueless back in the day

I enjoy so much how you share locations on firewall for various applications.
I wonder if you know all the paint dabs and colors and locations for factory check marks? My car is 69 RSSS camaro big block. Not matching but correct numbers. I'd love to add those check paint marks from factory

Yes the LS-6 was a beast, but the GS stage 1 was a monster. This is racing footage from Michigan motor plex, where a Stage 1 wins all 3 races against an LS-6. Patrick Glen Nichols is the expert on these cars.

Wrong on the fastest 1970. The fastest car tested in 1970 was a Buick GS Stage 1.

Most likely cutting the VIN tag off and putting it on a reproduction body. That's the smart thing to do.

When I was 16 years old I used to work at a junkyard and it was filled with muscle cars left the salvage yard in 86 and went to work for dealership and now I'm back at that junkyard in 2024 and I asked him and he said the Salvage prices were up and it was time to make room for the newer cars
