I traveled to inspect and authenticate this
LS6 Chevelle for my endorsement. It has been in hiding off the road since 1979. Originally built in Kansas City, MO the third week of February 1970 featuring Tuxedo black exterior upper and lower with white stripes, cowl induction, M40 automatic transmission, bucket seats, tach and gauges, and 4.10 positraction rear axle.

I had to laugh, "He has no intentions of selling the car", and it's been sitting in that barn since 1986, so apparently he has no intentions of restoring it either.
Yeah, it's like, I'm glad you were alive and working to be able to afford one of these out of the showroom, but knowing how much of a gem this is that someone would cherish to its fullest potential gives me a sour feeling towards some of these owners.

It's his car he paid for it he can do what he damn well pleases with it.
For some people just knowing what they have is enough for some people there whole lifetime. To have something so long in the condition they have it in is the memory they want to have.

Me too....A good thorough cleaning & repaint. If the engine isn't locked up....put a distributor cap on her, clean the carburator and flush the fuel lines. Flush out all the other fluids radiator, transmission & filter replaced. New tires! It probably would take nothing for road readiness! No one has scavenged any of its parts! Great find! Wonder why the owner didn't restore before now!! It's a gem for sure!

That's a great find. It will be worth a fortune once restored (probably is now). For being off the road since 1979, it sure looks like it had a rough life for its first 9 years.
They all will be restored after the estate sale.
Yup old boy won’t do shit with it, will leave it to his family to deal with.
"He has no intentions of selling the car", "i'm going to restore it one day" the two statements that led to every vehicle that has ever rusted into the ground.
Not this car….Patrick said that he will be the new owner if the existing owner ever sells.
This car is worth $100,000 as it sits and $150,000 to $175,000 if fully restored and complete.
My guess is that after a good clean up inside and out and then paint-body work (30k)
The owner will drive for a bit and then sell
And now these mofos got the nerve to (try) and sell them for big bucks and they're nothing but rust.

Amazing that these cars are still out there and still turning up.
Hopefully the owner tries to restore the car. It would be financially challenging though. Don't know the owners financial situation, maybe he can afford it?
If not, maybe PGN can help him sell it or purchase it himself. That car deserves a elite level restoration.

Chevelles are the best. Was lucky enough to ride in a few of these when my granddad had his used car dealership in the late 60's/early 70's. This car is an awesome find hope it gets the restoration it deserves. Great video!
That’s why it has survived being off the road. Fellas I got my drivers liscence in 1980, and perforce cars were very reasonable and plentiful. They were just cars then, cheaper than the standard models because of gas mileage and dependability. Most were bought for a teenage boys first car. They were wrecked and ran to death had motors swapped and replaced with non factory correct high performance engines because numbers matching meant nothing back then. Like my first car, a super nice 65000 mile 71 Torino GT white with red interior. 351 Cleveland 4 barrel engine with hooker super cop headers ,fireball crane cam, elderbrock alum intake, Holley 750 dbl pmpr, Mallory dual point dist. Electric fuel pump in trunk to keep pressure from tank to mechanical pump, a C-6 3000 stall converter and 3:91 trac loc 9” rear. That car with all those 2nd day modifications was $1500 dollars. It was super nice original condition. Like finding a car a old lady had then modified. That’s how it was then,only gear heads would buy them. Unless you were born in the 50s or 60s you wouldn’t understand how people viewed them. They were just cars!
One of my older cousins graduated high school in 1972 and that was his present here in Texas. It was a four speed LS6, in the mid 2000 his ex wife got mad at him One evening grabbed the keys and took, he got a call from her about twenty minutes later saying that she had wrecked it. Well she totaled it. It sat in his front yard for about six years covered,he wound up selling to someone who said that it was fixable. I do remember my cousin not driving it very much maybe four times a year and it had very low mileage. Thank you very much Patrick I really appreciate what you do.

Thank you for years of videos. I found your site not that long ago and have continued to watch an episode everyday. It’s nice to be at a car show, view a Chevelle, and be able to diagnose different items that may or may not make it a true version as it came out of the factory. Looking forward to all of your new videos and watching all the old ones.

This is really exciting. If indeed this car was built in Feb. of 1966 at the Leeds Assembly plant in KC there is a 50/50 chance I worked on this car. I worked night shift on the body shop assembly line. I would have put the very first bolt or screw of any type into this body. Everything else at this point would have been welded on the body. Part of my job was to hang the door hinges which took 3 brass phillips head screws each. I would leave them hanging loose for the door install later down the line. At this point there is no front clip, deck lid, or bumpers. Just the bare body. Thanks for posting this. It sure brought back some memories for me.

I always find it amazing that these cars just keep popping up. You guys should see all the stuff my boss has...not Chevy stuff, but all Pontiac...rare GTO's, Judges etc....he has a bunch of restored cars and a bunch of projects...typically he has been getting about 2 restored per year...3 are in body shops right now.

for those wondering, the thm 400 in those cars were the same as any other 400 of that era, nothing special about them, they diden't have to be, they were as tough as nails from the get go. i retired 2 years ago, a professional transmission rebuilder and shop owner most of my adult life. the 400 was the best unit GM ever put out or ever will,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I'm pretty sure the CX and CY code T400 transmissions that came in L78 and LS6 cars had stronger gears. I have a 69 L78 396 Chevelle. Seen a CX code 400 for sale and the guy wanted $3500. I wondered why and did a little research. They are special.

Have one in my 74 SD. Dad had one in a 70 Belair that he sold to niegbor with 350k on it in probably early 80s for 350 lol
@@jamesdalton7191 no the gears are the same. they are all heavy duty. the only thing different is the T/C nothing in the transmissions. as far as higher shift points, not true either. to get to higher shift points all that is done is turn the modulator screw in one turn, that's it, nothing special. i built them and everything under the sun for over 40 years,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I had a 1968 Chevelle ss 396 that was set up for drag racing. It was not much fun driving on the road. Then I got a 1972 Buick Skylark custom. That car was nice. It was red with whie vinyl top and white interior with bucket seats and auto trans.
Wow Jay, I also had a 72 Skylark 350 auto white interior. Sold it 1983 to pay for honeymoon. Soon after bought 68 chevelle Malibu 327 4speed Muncie. Sold it in 1988 for down payment on our first house. I'm now 60 yo and longing for either car back now.

70 Chevelle that was parked in '79, that must have been a rough 9 years. And that driver side seat that looks like a lot more than 9 years worth of butt sitting there.
True 9 years on the road and then stored should look better than this ,must have sat in the elements and the owner was as rough as guts with it.
Not if the dude was rather round and had a big-ass set of keys hooked to his belt..

We are having restored my dads 66 that he bought in 69 and never really drove after 75. Was always stored indoors and believe me that car lived a tough life. He broke every drivetrain component and the car was spun out/rear ended. That being said the interior was real nice, but those cars lived hard lives in the hands of most guys.
@@hgrorng , My 66 Chevelle Super Sport went to the drag strip most of its life ,
I stopped that in 2004 and just Street drive , all sheet metal is all original and Frame is in great shape ,
It does however have a built small block 327 making 450hp with an 11 inch clutch, Lakewood Blow Proof Bell housing and M-21 Muncie 4 speed Trans , still has the original 12 bolt posi rear end

WOW. EPIC FIND. TAKES ME BACK TO NOVEMBER 1969 WHERE LOCAL VHEVY DEALER BRIGGS CHEVY HAD 6 OF THESE IN BLACK AND COLORS LINED UP ON LOT ALONG WITH SBC TOO. SOME HAD VYNAL TOPS BUT SIGHT OG 6 IN ROW WAS IMPRESSIVE

I love that year SS. I had a friend that had a black Chevelle SS with a 454cu from factory and the car was pretty fast back in the late 70s. I know it's not a car but I have a schwinn homegrown xt bicycle 1997 model that I put in the closet of my house in late 1997 a high end bike that hasn't seen the sun for 25 years. It still looks brand new. I guess it's rare too. I might put it on ebay some day.
I've seen Schwinn Orange Crates and Lemon Peelers that were mint and must have been put up like that at Barbers Vintage races selling for $3500-$5000.

Oh I hope it never get's fully restored. It's a perfect time capsule. Clean it, restore it mechanically, fix driver seat and drive it. Maybe new paint but only on the outside. The inside of trunk etc. is in perfect condition... Anothe great video, thank you Sir!

Obviously a fantastic solid car to restore but what kind of animals owned that car for the first 9 years of its life to end up looking trashed ? I know people loved to race them but my boring daily driver here is 9 years old with 75000 miles and still looks really clean. I'm always shocked how many of those desirable muscle cars got so neglected in their first few years 😥😥
It’s 52 years old not 9. Being in a barn doesn’t stop the exterior from fading and diminishing. The condition of the metal is the true foundation and what’s most important. This isn’t an original paint car. This car has a virtually rust free solid body which makes its desirability ozone level.
How many years was the car parked outside for before it was moved under cover,9 years on the road and it looks like that, absolute rubbish.
Looks like shit. I never understand when people say “they don’t build them like they used to,” and mean anything other than build quality is no longer shit. Look at the interior. Garbage craftsmanship-if you can even call it that.
@@finejustgivemeaname Two things that you need to remember. Technology was not what it is today, which covers, materials, fitment tolerance, fastener technology, tool and tooling technology . And secondly, these were union members building these cars, not muscle car enthusiasts, so their care level and quality of their work supervision lead to the cars and trucks of that era coming off the production line as they did. That's why when restoring one to "concourse ", Pebble Beach winning level, a restorer needs to understand the concept and importance of not over restoring it. Body panels not lining up, interior fitment, paint finishes, decal placement etc etc. We know you and who you are. You are the guy at the car show or cruise in, with the 2 or 3 year old Camaro ZL1 or Challenger with a 392 that has had very little done to it other than you rubbing on it a bit. By the way NO ONE looks at your car. They would rather look a a survivor AMC Gremlin X or a 69 Mustang Mach 1 with a 351W that is a bit of a beater.

When I see a car like this, it makes me think of my friend Robert that had one back in 78-9 in Midfield Alabama. I met him in 85, his description of it matched this car exactly. We worked together until his death in 2021. His description of it never changed and those stories always included that it was stolen in 79. I actually reminisced about that car with his mother at his funeral, and she just chimed right in with my story, saying that he always made such a big deal about it being an LS6, and offered up that it had been stolen and broke his heart. The car never was found. I am NOT saying that this is that car.

I'm in bama too. I know we don't need title to these old cars down here but that's exactly why I WILL NOT pay big money for car with no title. I know of alot of old cars that were stolen back then ,stripped and people are trying to sell them now.

I found a 1970 LS6 barn find on CL in 2014 in Nebraska. .Original owner.Only 7000 miles..No rust. Build sheet.Auto.Gray w/black stripes.I paid 35k and did a full restoration on it and sold it at Barrett Jackson in 2017 for a Whopping 100k .After resto expenses and Barrett Fees ect. I was still able to make a 10k profit to go towards finding the next barn find.
Jesus fucking Christ, it took you 55k minus auction fees to restore? Maybe that’s not your forte.

@@finejustgivemeaname 55k to restore a Chevelle is a bargain. I am on my third one and will have near a 100 in it. If you do stuff right it costs money.

As for the costs of restoring a car like this…
$30k to clean it up correctly, fix the minor body issues and professional paint….MINIMUM anywhere in the country
Then you have to go through the entire mechanicals and get everything back to healthy
This car is $100k as it sits…..it’s literally the holy grail car…..

I'd have been hiding it as well since 1979, with a SNOW tire on the port front. I didn't see any WHITE stripes, so now I'm kinda wandering, numbers matching, I mean who really cares, what a wonderful piece of history to have been totally disrespected!

Eventually you'll run out of LS6's to find. 40 years ago, I found one but was bought by someone else a day later. I do have a 70 Malibu I picked up 2 years ago, runner after i ditched the points and put a HEI in it, has the original 307 w/powerglide. Been working on a 4 bolt 454 w/ rectangular port heads for it, that's about done. Need to fix a little rust on the body and replace trunk pan but overall really solid. Very fortunate to find such a car in Alaska. It lives in my floor heated shop protected from the elements. Funny, mine had the same damage to the pass quarter panel at some point in its life.
I don't care where you find cars at, I've watched every single time, love your videos and info on the cars, I definitely understand the "no intentions of selling it" , sometimes the car becomes a family member, I told my wife even if I needed a life saving operation don't sale that car, she and the car can go on without me, lol, got a question, where the wheel opening moldings an option on SS cars, I've seen some with and without...?

That's a mean machine! The 4 speed LS6 is way more desirable but when they was new every one would tell you the automatic car was faster then a stick! Why no mention of the original color on the car, everything looks to be black but you said it was a respray? Thanks for what you do Patrick your at the top pf your game👍

4spd cars were just as fast if you knew how to shift. No clutch needed except to launch. If you jumped on a true 4spd driver with your auto you'd have your hands full.
Watch some Grumpy Jenkins videos and you'll see what I mean.
Auto was more consistent, not faster. Auto robs power.
Interesting my '72 4 door Skylark had the same arm rests on the doors and door lever. Also the car had someone rather large in the passenger seat the arm rest is rather crushed and repaired with tape. The stories this Chevelle could tell! 😊

That’s the old fashioned way I use to do that as a kid. Now the way to find cars is to create many many avenues so the cars can find you.
@@patrickglennnicholsmusclec1674 In my mind the best looking car ever made was either a '70 or a '72 Chevelle. Immediately following that is a '67 Pontiac GTO, but fat chance of finding one of those just laying around.
