    I just fixed mine by replacing the same capacitor you did! Mine was a Coca Cola themed one but was just a re-skin as it was the same components. I did not use the same type of capacitor, I only had 10 uF 50v Aluminum electrolytic capacitor. My soldering skills are terrible, so i ran wires from the board to the capacitor and back to the boards. After shocking myself by holding both ends of the PSU, and putting everything back together, it worked perfectly!
    Long story but thank you soooooo much for this video.

    Hi,
    thank you for your excellent fault-finding video. I had the same issue and replaced the 10 uF capacitor with a new high-temp replacement (Würth WCAP-HTAH).
    My green light kept blinking intermittently, though, so I also checked the other capacitors. The AC side capacitor was all right, but the DC side 2x 1 mF caps were faulty! So I replaced the two green 1000 uF 25V caps with the closest replacements that I had in storage, two 680 uF 25V ones. After replacing these, my Astro works again.
    As a side note, the toggle switch is really cheap chinese ..... and sometimes does not conduct in the on positions. Be careful with it and wiggle it a bit to make contact, check the LEDs for proper contact.

    Fantastic video. Genuine comment, great you were able to show some how to fix it. For the average Jane such as myself it’s trash. $20 fridge and it would cost me more to pay someone to fix than buy new. I watched your video through so you get the traction you deserve. But, sad disposable world we live in. I’d of paid more to last 5 years and pay someone to fix than waste my time driving to the store to buy another that’ll last a year…

    I have a Kell K4 and the fan doesn't spin, the light doesn't blink but it's very dim and it makes a bit of a high pitched but quiet squeak or whistle. I do not have any tools except a soldering iron, how might I test for this. Perhaps I can just replace the similar capacitor, how likely might it be the same issue. It has one capacitor on the board that is just like the one you replaced here.

    I have a red Igloo labeled mini thermo “fridge.” Mine had a very faint high pitched whine from the power board. The fan wasn’t turning either. 2 output capacitors were deformed on the power board (1000uF 25V). I replaced them with quality Nichicon capacitors. I got the fan to spin, but the fan was horribly noisy, and sounded like it had bearing play. It would quiet some, and randomly get noisy over any tap on the fridge. I decided not to connect the fridge to avoid damaging my 2 new Nichicon capacitors.
    My guess is the original capacitors nuked themselves trying to drive the fan. The fan also needs to go. Hopefully I can yank out a fan with the same values from from the local neighborhood alley junk piles, when the time comes.

    Similar success story here. I also like the MTester that you show... Found it to be quite useful on occasion. You don't show the in-circuit test of the fault capacitor, though. Was your Capacitor Wizard able to spot it in curcuit? I tried the MTester and it seemed confused... it saw a diode with about 7.5uF capacitance.

    • @VintageAudioFever
      @VintageAudioFever  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Steven
      the reason for not showing the faulty capacitor with my capacitor wizard is...as I was testing the bigger cap prior to the faulty one, the caps were still charged and I shorted my capacitor wizard, it shorted a resistor....so I had to use other meaning of testing the caps....a error on my part....
      but it was a easy fix and I actually made a video repairing the wizard...

    What tool do I use to take the Compacitor out and put it in place again making it stick into the circuit board?

    • @VintageAudioFever
      @VintageAudioFever  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, I'm afraid this isn't really a repair for regular home DIYers unless you have experience using soldering irons and building circuit boards.
      You need to use a soldering iron to heat up the legs of the capacitor you want to remove. This will melt the solder, and then you can pull the capacitor out of the circuit board.
      In your case, I don't suggest you do this on your own.

      Hi....If i remember correctly, it was a 10uf capacitor that was open..it was the smallest cap on that circuit board if i recall.
      In order to do small repair such as this mini fridge, you would need to invest in a soldering kit ( solder- resoldering pump, some lead and a multimeter that is capable of measuring in ohms... usually the list I send you could run you about 50$ .
      It's a lot of fun repairing your broken electronics and rewarding....
      If not, you can always bring it to your local repair shop....or send it to me
      I will repair this for you at no charge, i don't mine helping you.
      You'd have to pay shipping of course and that can run you some money also depending where you are ..

      Electrolytic capacitors dry up, the dielectric changes and then the capacitor loses capacitance and has increased serial resistance. It is unavoidable but you can mitigate this by putting in quality components (Panasonic, Sanyo or Würth). Since the Astro builders saved on expensive components, you get a relatively short lifespan.

      10uf 50v...and I buy my capacitors at digikey
      But before you order parts, make sure that is the capacitor your unit needs....just because mine was that particular capacitor, doesn't mean it's the same in every units....you'll need a multimeter and a ESR meter to be absolutely sure it's the right capacitor your replacing...
