I just bought one of these mini fridges in goodwill for $6...Glad I found this video as it wasn't turning on. Hooked it up to my DELL Frankenstein motherboard and it turned right up and started cooling. Thank you for this video!

I had a coca cola version with the same problem. I basically chopped out the crappy power supply and wired it directly to an external 12v power supply with an inline switch. Works like a champ again
Thanks so much man been trying to fix my mother's small coca cola fridge for months. We simply switched to dc adapter and removed the useless board and it works great 👍
The red ones are on sale for 21 dollars right now on amazon. I had one for 2 years and finally went out. Bought another one to keep some beers in my room. Defintly worth 21 bucks😂
Great video! I ordered a cheaper minifridge (also 4 liter model) for 29,69 on Temu. I hope there are options to even lower the temperature in it at some point. Maybe 2 heatsinks and 2 fans could help?
put a 3 pin noctua 80mm uln fan. used a 3 pin to 2 pin adapter and a 2 pin extension. soldered the 2 pin the the hardwired dc lines to the extensions corosponding lines and then hooked it all up and mounted it. 1300 of the quietest rpms

I also had the same heat spot on my board so as many other people who have posted about this board online, I assume the heat from the fridge itself might strain the cheap components to prematurely fail or something
Was given an AstroAI LY0204A to look at that looks pretty much the same as the one shown in this video. When I turned it on, the warm/cool LEDs flickered and the fan spun slower than normal (speed was constant). Transformer on the PSU was clicking along with the LED flickers. So I had to take off the heatsink and was about to re-apply some thermal paste, but unfortunately the paste ran out mid-application so I had to stop and clean everything off. I decided to try mounting some thermal pads I had laying around instead to see if that would work. It did make things better (cans actually get cold enough now), but it's probably not working to the best of its ability as the pads aren't the greatest - just something I got cheap off Amazon a while ago. I'll probably get some new paste and re-apply it. Hopefully that makes it cool even better.
I got a Kooltron 12 can cooler like a vending machine was working then blink blink, I think either to recap or upgrade the PSU, a 5p watt PSU is basically more than the unit itself ;)
We can tell that you mean well. A bit of double sided tape will stick the power supply to the back cover. You could go overboard and cut out some of the rear panel so that the base plate of the PSU is exposed for better heat transfer. But then, you already have forced convection.
Have you ever used the 6 can insulated electric cooler by fridge? Mine just stopped working and the green light no longer comes on. I am not sure what to do about it at this point. I couldn’t figure out how to open it up. It has 4 screws in the inside of the cooler. I took them off and still couldn’t figure it out…
Hmmm, see my AstroAI 2.0 6L mini fridge won't do anything. No lights light up, no nothing. The power cord itself is good, but I'm not sure where to go from there to diagnose the issue..
Came across your video after keyword searching for info on how this "fridge" i have operates. Out of curiosity. I have no clue about half of what you were talking about, but am able to understand when you used the jargon my big bro always used. ie "turd", thingamabobber" and "gizmo". If you did not say "gizmo" in this video, you probably have in another one I bet. I did follow well enough to enjoy the humor. You placed me back a half a century to when i hung out in workshops of some form or the other as the annoying little sister in a 2 mile area of boys who had no one else to hang out with. Some good memories there. It's why i still take broken things apart and attempt to fix them before tossing them. And now, thanks to you, I have a clue about that red thing on my shelf without having to take it apart. Thanks for the vid. Oh, and may i suggest an old cap from a pickle jar, or something along those lines, to stay on your work area to contain those pesky screws?
I have a mini fridge that is apparently the only ever made... the Crown Edition Rove, model no. PRFRIDGE1. The power cord looks like yours. The power will come on, but when I click the HOT or COLD buttons to activate the warming or cooling, the red light (HOT) or green light (COLD) flashes once and the power shuts off. There's also a CR-2032 battery for something, which I replaced. Should I replace the power supply like you did?
Where did you order it from? My son's just quit n it isn't 4 months old smh. I figured that's what it was. Does it run off 12v after the 110v? If so I'm just goin to get one of my food 12v cords n wire it in or put a plug on it one. Thanks
Thought I just made progress but then my green light went off. Opened the back and I see the board u see the switches are burnt out. Literally crumbling is it worth trying to get that mini mother board(tan/ brown board u Dee switch attached to green mother board) fixed?
Okay i read thru all the comments, you don't have a picture of the wiring. Before I order a new power supply, I'd like to ask, is it just the 2x wires from the old power supply, then 2x wires to the new power supply?
I might use a fan on a separate power supply for the power supply on the fridge so it doesn’t burn out. Is there a power supply if it only has dc, I’m a dumb ass about wiring.
the built in power supply has a rectifier so it converts ac to dc hence why the back has a ad/dc switch. the meanwell 50watt is more than enough to super cool it. this repair has been great and still runs on my work desk to this day holding at a 38f temp all the time. super easy ac goes to ac dc goes to dc. but you CAN wire up a direct DC to the main circutboard without the ps, as it is a dc connection. so find something in the 50 watt range 12v and go for it.
Thanks for the video. I just replaced the fan and have the same problem you did. I was just about the order the meanwell power supply, but I thought I'd ask you first does changing out the power supply increase the risk of fire hazard?
My on/off switch nearly melted . Board is burnt black beneath the switch . I looked at the board and it looked like there is a short from solder flux on it. Might try to get a switch from the electronics store 10 miles away.
These power supplies have markings for Live and Neutral, but then the fridge has a figure 8 style plug which is non-polarized and reversible. Does that matter since the supply is being installed in a plastic housing? I'm changing out the supply in one of my fridges and have been trying to find an answer. On on hand I've been told to swap out the figure 8 for a computer style 3 pin plug, but others have said that the polarity doesn't matter since most European plugs are reversible by design and any power supply rated for 220 would have the protection circuitry on both sides in order to comply with European standards.
Good evening Mr. Edwards. Thanks for the video I have a mini fridge that has the same problem and it also has a high pitch noise. I have another mini fridge that the small circuit board the switch burned off. I replaced the switch but it didn’t fix the problem. Do you know where I can get that part from? Thanks in advance.
if you wanted to do the super cheap route, wire in the 2 wire external outlets we all have 30 of in our junk drawers, just line up the voltage close to it and bypass the entire internal thing
Could have used an External DirecTV 12V_4.5 A_Power Supply,or similar. Can find Great Deals on them & others at Thrift Stores.I got LOADS of them an installer left for dump & others....
Hey I have a question about this kind of unit. So me and my father took mine apart and it seemed to have a burnt out circuit like yours. We didn’t have a replacement board so we took a close look and I told him I didn’t need the heating function. We decided to cut the board out and link fan wires with the power supply. The fan runs but it still won’t cool. So far the only thing left for me to try is replacing the metallic liquid in the heat sync(I think it’s called that.) Does the board make a huge difference? Does it help with the cooling? Or is it just the fan cooling the heat sync?
I need new fan just died, what do need so many to pick from. Still under warranty but need to jump through hoops so figured fix it myself. Sadly fan only lasted 5 months
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration going to try and fix it myself so I'm not big on this stuff but i can follow direction. First got the replacement fan and it has 2 plugs, big with red/black wires and small with black/red/yellow wires but fan in fridge only has black/red and no plugs which figures nothing is easy. This fan is bigger (thicker) than original which is ping shun electronic co YD8020MS DC 12V 1.6W. Now what
The faulty part on the original circuit board was a small capacitor. I would have replaced all the cheap e-capacitors with Nichicon e-caps. ESR meter would have spotted the faulty e-cap.
If mine is I will just replace it with a bigger one. My son's just quit after 4 months n it didn't even have drinks in it or would even cool that good smh.
Greetings! What needs to be done to change the temperature difference at which cooling will continue? I mean, how to increase the difference between the ambient temperature and the temperature inside? Maybe you need to increase (or decrease) the resistance on the ambient temperature sensor?
peltier cooling draws heat away through the heatsink and cools it with the fan thus causing a cooling effect inside. this now runs at around 45 degrees F after about 30 mins. and is living back on my work desk since its upgrade. and works just wonderful!
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration I have a cuisinart cwc-900 wine fridge. The temp only gets 20 degrees cooler then room temp. About 54 f. I upgraded the fan that blows on the heat sink and it's quiter but still not cold. Any tips to make the internal temp colder? There's dual fans inside the fridge part, nothing is blocking the fans. All fans clean, everything seems to be in working order but?
This is crazy i have a tacklife mini fridge that looks exactly the same from the outside. In multiple videos its looks similar. But once everyone opens their mini fridge mine doesnt have that power supply board. The thing is it was working for at least 6 months if not a year! Are there some models that dont have a power supply board? Mine finally stopped working last weekend and i thought ok i will just fix it but i dont even see any capacitors lol. I am at a loss.
I have a Coca Cola one that’s broke and the light comes on but it’s making a beeping noise that it never done before and it’s just not working apart from hearing the beeping when I connect power and the light turning on, I’m really not sure what the problem is, would you have any idea? Thank you 🙏
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration no the fan is not moving or getting cold, the only thing that seems to work is the flashing light, and it’s making that beeping noise I mentioned, it never used to make that noise when it was fully working. Thank you!
The same thing happened to my mini fridge I have the same 1 as you can you tell me the name of the replacement part you bought and where you got it. Thank you.
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration Thanks for the video, it really helped. Also that link now goes to the 65w version. I wrote a comment giving the name of both 50W 12V 4.2A models.
I Upgraded The Fan With Better RPM,and Has LED..Its Extremely Quiet, and Does A Nice Job Of Keeping Drinks Cool,My Fiancé’ Grandson Says Its His To Keep His Drinks Cold While He’s Playing😂😂.But Yeah..Upgrade That Fan.You Dont Hear It At All
yes better fan see my comment for idea how, my method was for quiet efficiency after the fan started to squeak. same method can be used for a 3 pin flx or pnw noctua fan so long as the rpm is pinned a higher rpm fan could be used to up the air intake on the heatsink/plate
No diagram is needed. If you hold a replacemebt meanwell up to the original. The ac side ( mains wall power)) goes to it, the dc side pos/neg goes to its corresponding terminals
Dont go too large, your still using the orig circuit board for controls and switches. For example the stock is 35 watt , i used a slightly larger one, meanwell power supply, small fits in the space and works well
I order a 60w 5a 12v power supply. The 50w 4.5a 10v was sold out. You think It’ll handle it? Because I’m remembered plugging the original power supply to a smart plug and it fried it. I’m not sure if this power supply I order will handle it.
You can clear your ears/eustachian tubes by milking them. Literally take your thumb and middle fingers and place one on each tube location which is in the indentations on each side of your Adams apple. Relax your neck. Tilt your head back and place your hand up to your throat placing the middle finger and thumb as close as you can get to your jaw hinge. With some pressure literally slide your hand downward pressing inward on the tubes until you reach your collar bones. Do this several times. Several times a day. Do not try to hock up the fluid you will feel running down your throat after a few times. If you don't feel relief of pressure and the feeling of thick fluid running down your throat you need to relocate your finger and thumb. Keep trying until you feel pressure relief and feel the urge to hock up a lung. If you do this regularly you can keep your sinuses clear and clean.your hearing can go from near deaf to perfect hearing if done right
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration I ordered the same model, but mine is definitely larger, not sure it will fit. Mine matches Mean Well's specs, but the 5"length looks longer than yours which appears to be 3" to 3.25".
Don't know if I'll ever get a response to this. How has this repair held up so far? Is there any way you could make a short video on how you wired in the power supply?
I respond to every comment. My refrigerator is still working colder than ever. It will chill things now down to 34°F. I don’t know what that is in communist but it is great. The power supply is simple to wire up the colors match the original insides AC on the power plug DC positive and negative to the board.
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration the wires that came out of the old power supply into the board with the switch, does those wires plug into the v- and v+ of the new power supply?
Why not just buy a 12-volt cigarette power supply & plug in the 12-volt power cord into it? Such as a benchtop DC power supply that puts out 3 amps of regulated 13.8 volts.
anyone point out yet that he prolly could have just bought a 12v wallwart/laptop cord powersupply and used DC instead of the AC plug? wonder if that would last longer myself... might just get a junk mystery ebay 4$ 12v laptop supply
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration good info. sounds like people are able to upgrade the fan to be quieter and more efficient and can get the performance up a little better. I bought the bigger wine chiller version with the glass see through front for 22$ and I think I will maybe cut some more holes/remove some of the plastic shell in the back to see if that can move heat a little better. maybe add some aluminum tape to the back surface? i was doing some numbers on making it battery powered, maybe running a bunch of 18650s in parrellel up to 12v but at 50watts thats only ~10 minutes per battery. that would take a lot of batteries to get some decent run time lol
i use my teeth too lol once on a live telephone wire cause of the habits of doing it with my teeth lol be very aware around electricity and habits can kill you or bite pretty good lol
I Just Bought A Better Case Fan,It Also Worked Well With A USB Case Fan,I Dont Know A Damn Thing About Replacing The Boards…I Work On Humans,Not Electronics, lol
hi Chris that was a great fix. always nice to have some cold beers. looks like I caught your previous video upload a bit premature while it was still flying trough the tangled wires of the WorldWideWeb. as now hidden for me to watch. I did read the >read-me< file, but i do not know exactly what i'm doeing wrong. indeed i cant get the >kick< partition to show up by name on the sd, is it that smallest of four partitions of approx 107 megs? and it wont let me give it a new drive letter. (the boot:!? yes, that one will accept a new letter) but no kick. i saw you writing about dont use win7, i run 8 . does it has to be 10. to get it showing up? i will be greatfull for the solution. and again willing to do some PP donation for buying some tasty chicken wings. ;)

If you look at reviews, all these little fridges die within months (most a year, very lucky 2 years) of purchase. So is it just the heat sink and fan that create the cold? Why don't they just wire the fan to a plug and leave out the rest of the crap. Nobody needs the green LED and whatever the hell the rest of that stuff is. Plug it in to run, unplug to turn off.
its called the peltier effect. it has AC and DC so the board inside has a rectifier and coil for AC to dc, so most cut it off and wire a external power brick that does that for you. OR you can go my route, which is still working and even colder.

the built in power supply has a rectifier so it converts ac to dc hence why the back has a ad/dc switch. the meanwell 50watt is more than enough to super cool it. this repair has been great and still runs on my work desk to this day holding at a 38f temp all the time. super easy ac goes to ac dc goes to dc. but you CAN wire up a direct DC to the main circutboard without the ps, as it is a dc connection. so find something in the 50 watt range 12v and go for it.
Thanks for the video. I just replaced the fan and have the same problem you did. I was just about the order the meanwell power supply, but I thought I'd ask you first does changing out the power supply increase the risk of fire hazard?
Nope. Mines been running over a year since indid this video 24/7 and its still ice cold
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration Thanks. How did you end up mounting it to the case?
@jonathangray8214 it just sits in there wedged under pressure. When you put the back on it fits perfection
Do you happen to have a wiring diagram or picture of the power supply?
No
blue/red is positive.. AC In .. DC out
on the RS-50-12 the AC is labeled with (AC)
The power supply ac input has a place for ground. How did you go about wiring that? I believe the stock ac plug is just hot and neutral.
@matthewarcuri2549 its a polarized plug. So as you said load and neutral
My fan runs, the green light is on, I can feel the air from the sides. I left it on overnight but my drinks won’t cool still.
The Peltier square prob broke. They are 3 to 6$ on ebay. Measure it and order a new one only 2 wires
Hi there can you remember the model power supply you used to repair the peltier mini fridge
It is listed in the extended description
Mines 120v its a simple ac to dc
Buck
Converting power supply hence my
mean-well psu did the trick
Where can I purchase the meanwell power supply?
Ebay!
Thanks in advance.
i posted the part link a few comments above
Thank god for this very specific video because I have this very specific problem. I am good at very simple fixings but not like this, thank you
if you wanted to do the super cheap route, wire in the 2 wire external outlets we all have 30 of in our junk drawers, just line up the voltage close to it and bypass the entire internal thing
Could have used an External DirecTV 12V_4.5 A_Power Supply,or similar. Can find Great Deals on them & others at Thrift Stores.I got LOADS of them an installer left for dump & others....
You say Commodore made a fridge? An Amiga Fridge? Oh wait no…. It’s a fridge. 😉 oh well, still enjoyable to watch. 👍🏻 cheers Chris 👏
How exactly did you wire it? Cause I am planning on getting one since my little fridge stopped working
Its self explanitory. There is a ac side and a dc side. The wall power is the ac side. The fan is the dc side. Its all marked
hey would a bigger heat sink help keep it cooler
Prob but wont fit
Hey I have a question about this kind of unit. So me and my father took mine apart and it seemed to have a burnt out circuit like yours. We didn’t have a replacement board so we took a close look and I told him I didn’t need the heating function. We decided to cut the board out and link fan wires with the power supply. The fan runs but it still won’t cool. So far the only thing left for me to try is replacing the metallic liquid in the heat sync(I think it’s called that.)
Does the board make a huge difference? Does it help with the cooling? Or is it just the fan cooling the heat sync?
You need the board as it does more than power the fan it provides the Peltier reaction that makes it draw heat that the fan cools
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration oh damn. Thank you so much for getting back to me.
I need new fan just died, what do need so many to pick from. Still under warranty but need to jump through hoops so figured fix it myself. Sadly fan only lasted 5 months
its a standard 80mm pc case fan
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration going to try and fix it myself so I'm not big on this stuff but i can follow direction. First got the replacement fan and it has 2 plugs, big with red/black wires and small with black/red/yellow wires but fan in fridge only has black/red and no plugs which figures nothing is easy. This fan is bigger (thicker) than original which is ping shun electronic co YD8020MS DC 12V 1.6W. Now what
Can you show where the wires go
The faulty part on the original circuit board was a small capacitor. I would have replaced all the cheap e-capacitors with Nichicon e-caps. ESR meter would have spotted the faulty e-cap.
If mine is I will just replace it with a bigger one. My son's just quit after 4 months n it didn't even have drinks in it or would even cool that good smh.
Would it be possible to just replace the rectifier?
Yes but it was a cheap Chinese power supply and i use this daily at work. So a meanwell was what I wanted and it runs great!
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration But how to lower the temperature even more? How to cheat the sensor?
More voltage, faster fan, larger heatsink. Thats how they work. There is not a sensor its regulated by voltage
Is it Peltier effect like these? If so increasing the current causes more heat which in turn creates more cool inside.
I had the same problem going to get a power supply for mine
Thank you 🙏
Is the fan spinning. Is it getting cold?
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration no the fan is not moving or getting cold, the only thing that seems to work is the flashing light, and it’s making that beeping noise I mentioned, it never used to make that noise when it was fully working.
Thank you!
@@_-pablo-_ then its the power supply
I wonder if you can just by a laptop power supply and put it in there.
probably, but this was super cheap, and works till this day still on my desk at work.
10 uf 50 volt is the problem.
I just fix one it was the 2 capacitors they are the 1000uf 25 volts
What is the other board the on/off switch is connected to and is it possible to obtain one? Thank you!
Its part of the original power supply its the on off switch for the mini fridge it should be on yours
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration Yes, it is burnt at the fan input and not working. I need to replace it. What do you suggest?
@@razorsharpbt124 you dont actually need it, you could wire it direct DC with a wall charger if you can get one outputting enough watts, 35 min
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration Yeah, everything else is working fine. I'll just use a switch in the place of that board. Thanks!
The same thing happened to my mini fridge I have the same 1 as you can you tell me the name of the replacement part you bought and where you got it. Thank you.
Ebay 20$ and direct link here! www.ebay.com/itm/122214376431

No
I Upgraded The Fan With Better RPM,and Has LED..Its Extremely Quiet, and Does A Nice Job Of Keeping Drinks Cool,My Fiancé’ Grandson Says Its His To Keep His Drinks Cold While He’s Playing😂😂.But Yeah..Upgrade That Fan.You Dont Hear It At All
yes better fan see my comment for idea how, my method was for quiet efficiency after the fan started to squeak. same method can be used for a 3 pin flx or pnw noctua fan so long as the rpm is pinned a higher rpm fan could be used to up the air intake on the heatsink/plate
maybe put some flame stickers on the side
thanks for ur explaining but can u please answer me how to connect the wires please like diagram
No diagram is needed. If you hold a replacemebt meanwell up to the original. The ac side ( mains wall power)) goes to it, the dc side pos/neg goes to its corresponding terminals
You have a lot of fans
Is it ok to use a power supply that uses more watts?
Dont go too large, your still using the orig circuit board for controls and switches. For example the stock is 35 watt , i used a slightly larger one, meanwell power supply, small fits in the space and works well
I order a 60w 5a 12v power supply. The 50w 4.5a 10v was sold out. You think It’ll handle it? Because I’m remembered plugging the original power supply to a smart plug and it fried it. I’m not sure if this power supply I order will handle it.
@@pizzahut4390 Did it work?
If you do this regularly you can keep your sinuses clear and clean.your hearing can go from near deaf to perfect hearing if done right
Nice mine just blew up! No power at all.
Easy fixes
Chris, I like to look before I leap. Is the correct power supply a NES-50-12 12V 4.2A 50W?
my replacement power supply was a MeanWell RT-65B works perfect! makes it cold af!

psu or one of its capacitors died. its common
Let me know How to connect with new power supply especially wire connections😊. Because I have dead one like this. Want to repair it.

Thanks will give it a go when the power supply gets here Monday. Thanks for the Information.
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration the wires that came out of the old power supply into the board with the switch, does those wires plug into the v- and v+ of the new power supply?
yup. @@terrylaveyplays

Why not just buy a 12-volt cigarette power supply & plug in the 12-volt power cord into it? Such as a benchtop DC power supply that puts out 3 amps of regulated 13.8 volts.
i like to live dangerously
When are you releasing this as a torrent? Oh wait.
its a fridge.
anyone point out yet that he prolly could have just bought a 12v wallwart/laptop cord powersupply and used DC instead of the AC plug? wonder if that would last longer myself... might just get a junk mystery ebay 4$ 12v laptop supply
yes i can but i wanted it as was and not external. my new power supply runs it even cooler and has been going strong ever since, 24/7
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration good info. sounds like people are able to upgrade the fan to be quieter and more efficient and can get the performance up a little better.
Cool :)

hi Chris that was a great fix. always nice to have some cold beers.
looks like I caught your previous video upload a bit premature while it was still flying trough the tangled wires of the WorldWideWeb. as now hidden for me to watch.
I did read the >read-me< file, but i do not know exactly what i'm doeing wrong. indeed i cant get the >kick< partition to show up by name on the sd,
is it that smallest of four partitions of approx 107 megs?
and it wont let me give it a new drive letter. (the boot:!? yes, that one will accept a new letter) but no kick.
i saw you writing about dont use win7, i run 8 . does it has to be 10. to get it showing up?
i will be greatfull for the solution. and again willing to do some PP donation for buying some tasty chicken wings. ;)
It has to be 10 or greater

and used PI imager to burn the image, opened it via diskmsmt. and it shows 4 (parts)
1: a part named boot: with a letter of 256mb fat32 (primaire partition)
2: a part with no name 107mb with a right mouse oppurtunity to change drive letter and path. But it wont let me complaining about refreshing. which i repeatedly tried to refresh/renew.
3: a part with no name 40,79Gb (primaire partition)
4: a part with no name 77,93Gb yet not available which i assume will be given free after we do the SuDo rasps thing.
for now i think it's all about that second part, just dont understand why it want let me do anything with even with an adminitrator prompt and keeps giving me the red cross. even after refreshing.
maybe later when i get smart i will get i, it must be something simple. ;) thanks.

Mine just died but 4 years old non stop running.
Peltier is pronounced: Pel-tee-ay. Why is the, "R" silent? Because it's a French name and they don't seem to like the letter, "R" too much! Lol 😜
