    It's great that this company really cares for people with disabilities ...
    Not only they care, they put them in top priority.
    This isn't seen anywhere else.

      Dude ikr. I dont have any disabilities but when i turned my macbook on for the first time and was brought to an accessibility screen before anything else i was amazed that a company cares so much about peoples needs like that

    I have a family member who is struggling with a few diseases and Assistive Access has made a wonderful difference. It also lets us limit who they call or text, which protects their dignity and privacy.

    I just set this up on my grandfather's phone. He seems to like it more. Less distracting. Needs some tweaks, though. He played around with it for like 15 seconds and was already wondering how to delete text messages.

    This is awesome. What would happen though if the phone is rebooted or ran out of battery? Would it continue with the same mode when it restarts or will it revert back to normal mode?

    Good idea, bad implementation IMO b/c of that Password protection. We have Guided Access for like decade, already, and still bricking the phone from time to time, once Password protected. Seems Apple unable to implement these Password protections safe way, means w/o need of Hard Reset or so.

    Unable to call directly from the contacts app and FaceID doesn’t work on WhatsApp lock.
    Suggest me a fix if any please.
    This would be a dream accessibility feature for my grandparents once these small errors are fixed.

  • @johnreturns1
    @johnreturns1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

    The feature is really disappointing. I wanted to get my father an iPhone for some time and did so once the feature was announced. The needs of my father are really the most basic. I’m glad that he he can use FaceTime kinda but that’s about it in terms of making it easier than using the normal mode. The most frustrating aspect, there is no way to see missed calls. That’s it, the most basic feature since old dumb phones. How the hell it makes sense to have badges to show missed calls? And that’s not even something clear. It’s the most frustrating aspect. Then the unlock method. Pressing three times a moving button? What the hell? Was this actually user tested? I can forgive anything else, but those to extremely basic functions makes the device actually harder to use. And then more stupid stuff: loud speaker button only appears after a call is answered. Why does Apple insist so much on introducing buttons that move around, or appear after a fact? The normal mode has this right: u call, the button is expectedly there, always. Hearing the ringing is something that should also be able to be done in loud speaker, especially for less abled people. Then, why there is no audio/ Taptic feedback for pressing buttons, especially dial buttons? Everything screams inaccessible, in an accessibility feature nonetheless! Furthermore, does Apple realise that in other languages, the (custom) phone number button in the call app does not show the full text, only part of the word, making it very confusing and relying on memory rather than visual cues, which should be the priority of an accessibility feature like this. And that is when is set at the minimum text size the feature offers. And another general across this launcher: confirmation screens for actions are exaggerated rather than minimised in relation to the normal mode. What I mean. Trying to call for example, when u press on a contact, it then takes you to another screen, needing to confirm with yet again a different placed button twice, before actually carrying out the function. And this is across the whole feature. Expectedly, both my parents when trying most of the app end up just waiting at a pre confirmation screen expecting that what the buttons they pressed to have been doing. Isn’t the point of accessible design creating obvious cues, like visually large and contrast full buttons to minimise further, learning curve requiring actions? This needs a more serious engagement from Apple, hugely

    This doesn't actually help anybody set it up for themselves if they have poor eyesight. And I don't think that you should have to have a trusted source in order to be able to set some thing up. That's typically written by somebody who has a big family. I certainly would never trust somebody who was up doing home health care to set up my phone. Nor would I trust somebody working at a nursing home. They may or may not have good intentions. So having to rely on somebody else is a big flaw.
