Scientists have warned that the Earth will run out of conspiracy theories by 2025 if they keep coming true at the current rate.

Is not having a pilot in the role of CAS such a bad thing? We of the Regt persuasion have an appointed Commandant General who is normally Regt however, it's been quite refreshing when it's not! With a fresh pair of eyes, the nominated person from another RAF trade comes with no agenda or pre-conceived ideas, giving all elements of the Regt, equal opportunities. Having an Engineer as CAS suggests that this man as probably worked on the shop floor for most of his career and therefore can understand how it really is on the ground. The wokerati that have infiltrated the RAF needs to be ejected by the new CAS ASAP, taking their "Air Specialists” ranks and "positive discrimination” with them.

You don't have to be a pilot to run the RAF. You have to be good at the job. As you said. Meritocracy

The biggest problem with the RAF (22 years as an Armourer, so I've seen this in practice) is that, as the youngest of the three branches of Service, the RAF has the most corporate mindset. There's always someone (usually at the mid-management level) who is quick to jump on board with terms like Lean and Total Quality Analysis and the 6S system (is it still 6 or have they found a seventh S). Whilst in practice they are useful, all too often they become a goal to be achieved at the cost of everything else, up to and including primary tasking.

Meritocracy is racist - there's the problem. And if it isn't racist then we must accept, or at least entertain, the notion that we're not all equal. It's a harsh world and we turn our back on Nature's law at our peril.

Tim, glad to see the problem boss was removed. The problem is all those under him appear to be moving up instead of being shown the door as well. Everyone following his unlawful lead should be removed.

Well balanced analysis as usual - thanks for your efforts, Tim. Yes, it really is as bad as this.... in every field....

Thanks Tim. Spot on! I'm an old guy, who sadly never served in the RAF but I can see the picture you paint in all walks of life and it is so annoying and sad, to the detriment of our children. Common sense is becoming a thing of the past.

Good on you Tim. The voice of reason. The voice that many junior ranks would have loved to have had back in the day...

You know the difference between a conspiracy theory and the truth, about six months

I left the RAF over 20 yrs ago and even then there were too many serving people who had forgotten, or didn't know even, that the RAF's primary function is flying aeroplanes.

The smaller the RAF gets, the more senior officers it seems to have. Usually with grandiose titles.

Hi Tim, you're looking 300% better than a few months ago and you sound like you're getting it together to so congrats on that. I hope you're going to continue with Shadowlands as I hope to enrol later this year.

Knew a great captain in a US unit very many decades ago. He was a superb officer and clearly made for higher rank. Suddenly announced he was leaving and I was shocked, he felt any promotion was always going to have the stigma of positive discrimination and he hated the idea that others would see his advancement as not achieved through meritocracy. They lost a very fine officer.

At the rate it is going the RAF will not have any aircraft, which is perhaps that is best given the attitude of those at the top.

What great news for defence - and the RAF ! The Army, which took a while to realise putting almost exclusively infantry officers at the top table did not work in the modern era - because logistics, engineering planning etc are far, far more critical capabilities at that level. Hooray for the RAF (yes, really, from an Army Officer…)

Gerry Mayhew is actually ex-ATC. Totally fine chap and his internal gyros are un-topple-able (I taught him limited-panel UPs some while back)!
