  • In this video I cover losing a job, my recent car accident, why pilots go to China, which morally I don't agree with and the Red Arrows boss, Wing Commander Dave Montenegro, being suspended for alledged innapropriate behaviour.

They frowned on your videos Tim, because you are a proud RAF pilot (retired) and still a fighter for traditions and values of the service. It can sometimes feel lonely when you are fighting the good fight but you're not alone. I often get told, that the world is not fair, but it's not fair because we allow it to be that way. Keep doing what you're doing.

You're 100% right in highlighting issues in the RAF as anyone who knows of wrong-doing, and remains silent or brushes it under the carpet is just as guilty as the perpetrators! Also, a company that lets you go for just speaking truths, standing up for justice and reporting facts, is not a company worth giving your time to or even being associated with ... totally their loss Tim!

My daughter is in the Royal Australian Air Force. When she had the rank of corporal, she worked in direct contact with the flying crews of one of the squadrons and ended up in a relationship with one of the pilots. Before that, one of her best female friends was a Squadron Leader at the same base. They even went away on holiday together. I was a little surprised at the apparent absence of the old 'no fraternisation' rules that applied to relationships between officers and enlisted personnel.
When I was younger, I worked at FW Woolworths in Norwich and fraternisation with female staff was a dismissible offence!

    • @sactu1
      @sactu1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The RAAF is a lot more relaxed about this nowadays - it really only becomes an issue if one is in a relationship wihtin on's direct reporting chain, and even then, a declaration of the relationship is usually all that's required to ensure objectivity in performance reporting (i.e. someone else outside the relationship does the performance appraisals). Speaking from 37 years experience in the RAAF.

Well done Tim, morals and standards need to be upheld in the service. To be fair it should never have been someone outside the service who should have raised/challenged these issue. It highlights the lack of moral courage that senior officers appear not to possess. The head of the RAF, like the leader of the reds, needs to set those standards and be impeccable around the values everyone else should be following…leadership I think that’s called.

Speaking out about matters that are highly questionable, particularly when they relate to military matters, has to be commendable, as those in the services would risk their careers to do so. Hats-off to you for speaking out. I really struggle with many of the changes that politicians have made that have directly affected the quality of our Armed Forces, but there is no-one to give a voice to such matters and the list of issues is a long one! Keep up the good work.

A commissioned officer should NOT be having a relationship with a female junior rank- especially within the same unit. Bad form. Unprofessional. Bad for morale. This is a prime example of the fundamental lack of discipline and moral values in so many British people today. HM Armed Forces are only as good as the society they recruit from.
With rank comes *RESPONSIBILITY* and a requirement to *SET A GOOD EXAMPLE.*
Glad you are safe and well Tim! Keep up the great videos!

ATPL conversation with ME IR, bolt on a £30K, Type rating, JOC, MCC you can wave bye bye to circa £60/£120K depending on how much “credit” the CAA give you - with no job guarantee of a job at the end.
Edit to add: wrt the Reds - anyone who served/serves in any military, (and with no respect to those women who serve or are serving), could foresee the issues with allowing (wrong word - but I hope I’m understood) women in front line Sqns ships/ subs and units. The RN Army and now RAF have all had these stories, all of which are utterly predictable with young military persons. The best political motives in the world will never constrain human behaviour. We’ve lost that basic understanding.

A red dear came across the road from behind a car going in the opposite direction. I didn't see it but hit it hard. The bonnet flipped up over the windscreen and my car was deflected into a tree. I hit the tree head on at about 40mph. Airbag deployed and I was ok. People have asked me if it went off with a loud bang? In truth, I can't remember hearing it. Yes, lots of white powder though. I suffered only a bruise to my nose but the car was totalled.

Thank you, John - much appreciated and you were never lowest of the low, I'm sure you were in some way critical to my life today so genuinely thank you for doing that job.

Just stumbled on your channel Tim and enjoyed listening to you. Good words that must surely resonate with a lot of us...... The RAF's discriminatory (and utterly ludicrous) recruitment policy presents an interesting irony - in turning its back on natural meritocracy, is the RAF suggesting that BAME (ghastly acronym, apologies) people are not as suitable as their white British counterparts and so need an unnatural 'leg-up'? Years ago one of my close relations was MRAF. He'd never have allowed the world's best trained air force to act in such a, frankly, racist and wholly counter-productive way. Anyway, you've got a new subscriber.

Tim, I always enjoy your videos. Sometimes they are controversial & ask questions that people would rather not ask but, it shows you care enough to want these things brought into the light & answered. Thank you for your service and its not fashionable to say this but, the country is proud of you & all who served and who continue to do so. I did try & join the RAF as front line aircrew but was rejected as I wear glasses. Glad you're okay after your rather scary accident but on the lighter side, Martin Baker don't make car seats - or least not in cars that don't have a sunroof! Take care mate & keep the videos coming.

"..........along with some other senior officers". The most successful, and rewarded, officers in the British military are those who manage upwards. Precisely the opposite of what they're actually paid to do.

Hi Tim-your a top man and you’ll find your level. Mental health is different to each individual ; some of the stuff your involved in will drive you mad literally…I was a 30 year RM and have found a great pathway , which involves letting people in Command getting on with their jobs and bailing out of all this minutia! Don’t watch TV , get on with the simple things in life….walking in nature and slowing the brain down , your still living life in the fast lane and the accident is a consequence. Relax and slow down. Regards.

Thank you, David - I am trying to do what you suggest, there is no fighting some of these fights, a win is not achievable and so best to build your own bit of England and leave it to the politicians to do the rest.

@@FastJetPerformance .It took me some time to work out how to have inner peace-its a long slow road to a plan that works everyday but the answers are there…after the RM I worked in Probation and I found an organisation in constant turmoil and chaos which was completely without an ending or that which could be solved-so I only concentrated on one offender at a time and had the odd success..family , Nature and three good Oppo’s , works for me. As an aside my uncle was deployed in WW2 with the RAF in Halifax Nova Scotia as ground support of the Lancaster bomber training ; he and two other men rescued the pilot and navigator from a burning Lancaster that overran the runway….his name was William Brooke’s ( RIP)
      Regards.
      Dave.

Sorry to hear about your accident.......actually reinforces the need for HF; which if I’m honest I usually pay lip service to......I shan’t anymore. I’m glad you’re ok. As for losing the job, I know you’re ok about it BUT I think it’s appalling. I’m 20 years into my RAF career (technician) and whilst I’m embarrassed at the stories over the last few months NOTHING you’ve said isn’t true. Questions you’ve asked, should be asked and should be answered.

Glad you are ok, Tim! Car can be replaced. You can’t be!
Keep launching the truth bombs! To steal a line from Dads Army “they don’t like it up ‘em, you know!”
Great to see you back on YT again.
    Stay safe!
