I’ve always loved the way you combine Age of Sail and British imperial elements with your very grounded Sci-fi setting. Keep up the good work!
Keating's performance, especially with his final remarks, gave me chills. This is how to do a compelling political scene!
You got MALCOLM REED in the house? AWESOME!
It must have been a rotten borough. What say you, Baldrick?
Honestly I dig the Parliament design. Clearly inspired by modern day parliaments, especially the House of Commons, but also unique in its shape. Also appreciate that the parliament is decently sized and not all futuristic for the sake of futuristic, like many science fiction legislatures.
This is my favorite scene in the series. Farren's final remarks are phenomenal.
Agreed. You can see how he led Centrum to victory in the Frontier war, and how he earned his seat in Parliament with those kinds of speeches.
I’m in the middle of listening to Vol1 Ep9 now, and I really think that the “Why do I still hate them? / We can get addicted to hate.” scene should be among the next ones uploaded here. It doesn’t spoil anything (no more than Magnetic Bottle Failure does), and it does a great job of capturing the confusion & regret that hurt ppl can carry with them thru out their lives, even after trying to turn things around.
We need more of that sort of messaging right now.
(Also, it goes without saying, but that scene is a Phenomenal work of writing & acting & musical work. More ppl need to hear that side of the Sojourn, not just the tense action bits, but also the introspective emotional bits.)
Dominic Keating was such a great choice for Admiral Farren!
Sounds like a declaration of the Navy's rebellion, like what happened in WW2.
I have not kept up with the story, but I'd watch EVERY parliament video you upload. Even tax talk. Yes, I am a nerd. How could you tell?
This is my favorite scene of the entire series so far
I do really enjoy the council sessions, both this one and the heavy one for Season 1, Episode 11.
I keep coming back here. No matter how many times I listen I can never get bored. This specific moment in episode 1 is what really gave me the chills and just the tension finally exploding into Darius' conviction. Keep up the great work and fair winds!
Ah, I love good old-fashioned legislative debates. This brings me back to the Senate scenes from Star Wars.
As for the positions represented in this debate, I can certainly see both sides.
On the one hand, the Prime Minister is correct that a diplomatic resolution to their conflict with the Advari is technically possible, but she does not yet understand that this will only be possible with some major shakeups to the leadership structure of their Empire, which will likely only be possible through some kind of military action. Furthermore, while she obviously cannot know this, the only reason why the Advari are simply blockading Edric's Gate instead of launching a full-invasion is because they do not have the ships to do so, and that this is most likely just a holding action until Cardinal Arvanis can build and crew more Lightships for a proper offensive into Tantalus.
On the other hand, Darius Farren is indeed correct that waiting for some imagined solution to the problem to emerge will only prolong the suffering of the people of Tantalus and weaken their governments and militaries against the Advari. A military action to take back Edric's Gate and the Greenhouse, at the very least, would provide great relief from the Great Famine, and force the Advari into a protracted conflict against the CDF, Frontier Militia, and MSG before they are ready to sustain such a battle, forcing them to either seek terms or risk exhausting themselves.
My strategy would be to launch a combined fleet to take back the Greenhouse System and the supply line, and possibly a system within the Sanctum rich in minerals to ship back to Keeper's Dance, Mericia, and Teldrin in order to give them the means to recoup their losses against the Advari Lightships, and then bunker down for a siege. Meanwhile, send the Guin and other special ops groups to make contact with Vadrick, Valendra, and possible other insurgents to bring the Advari Empire and the Faith Eternal down from within, and then enter into a formal agreement with each other regarding the boundaries Tantalus and the Sanctum shall have with each other.
That’s why I’m hoping the crew of the Guinevere are able to meet up with Vadric and also the Empress herself. If there’s even a tiny chance that peace can be made between the Advari and the people of Tantalus, the crew of the Guinevere are needed, and as far as I’m concerned, Vadric counts as one of them.
@@MMZERO9 Yeah, Vadric is an honorary member of the crew at this point, and if there is any hope of peace between the Advari and Humanity, it lies with him, and the bonds he has forged throughout his live.
Man, now I really want to get a Nebula subscription so I can watch Faithless. Unfortunately, I'm so broke I had to cancel my subscription to the Patreon.
There are alot of assumptions going on here with the limited information we have (and remember that the CDF has even less info).
Firstly, we do not have a good idea how much of a tech imbalance there is between Tantalus and the Advari. Aside from a single fluke instance in season one, everything the humans has tried only slows down the Lightships. They could potential lay waste to entire fleets.
Secondly, due to MAJOR SPOILER reasons, I doubt Valendra will still be as open to peace as she once was.
@@flynnstone3133 To the first one, the greatest number disparity we see between Advari Lightships and Tantalus warships is 1-to-3,* at the Aegis of Invia, and the 2-5 disparity at the Greenhouse held back the Advari for hours, even after they had been caught off-guard by the deployment of their missiles. The CDF alone has potentially hundreds of warships, and we have yet to see their most powerful weapons, such as the Quarel-lock Coilguns used on 1st and 2nd-rate ships of the Line, brought to bear against the Advari; the heaviest weapons used against the Advari were the Broadheads of the Shabayev and the Railguns aboard the Rodrigo.** I highly doubt that the Advari could lay waste to entire fleets if their numbers were below 10 ships, which has been established as not something they can readily do; hence the Holding Action.
* One to four, technically, but the Guin did not participate in any actual combat against the Lightship at the Aegis, so that doesn't count.
** And all of this discounts the potential use of Nuclear Weapons, which we have seen could be effective against the Advari with the Avalon. There is the Cape Thornwood Mandate to consider, yes, but we don't know how exactly that piece of legislation works; it could simply be a document prohibiting their manufacture in peacetime.
For the second, that will depend on what Valendra actually sees and how she responds to it. She may not be as compliant as Arvanis is hoping that she will becoming.
29th Century Starfleet : Ah great.... What Temporal mess the Enterprise crew got themselves into again......
O.K. that's pretty serious.
Space PMQs 😂😂😂
Thank you for your great work ❤
Hell yeah
I do have a question. In light of the Right Hon. John Bercow coming out as a bonfide Voice Actor. If you guys had the opportunity would have asked him to be speaker of the house?
@@Milkbox4k Wait…is he the British parliamentarian who shouts “Order” ?
@@shintaro797 Well, yes. And also gave some scathing quips to both side of the Parliament benches when things got roudy.
@@Milkbox4k I swear that man would put this prime minister woman to shame, and shape up the entire Parliament House😂😂
Now I wonder how a face-to-face encounter between Darius and Arvanis would be.
How the heck did you guys get Dominic Keating?
Tractor beam.
one sensible person and a mass of idiots.
“Supreme Chancellor, delegates of the Senate, a tragedy has occurred, which started right here with the taxation of trade routes, and has now engulfed our entire planet in the oppression of the Trade Federation.”
✌️
The Prime Minister will bring doom to humanity with her inaction. Really hoping a Coup will come about
I swear Darius better become the Prime Minister after that coup, someone who takes action rather than spews comforting words
@@shintaro797 yup. And during the scene, the way the prime minister speaks, idk it just makes it seem like she really doesn’t give a shit, or thinks everyone around her is stupid
both of them will. the prime minister is far too passive and Farren is far too aggressive. the PMs path means that before any advantage can be gained Tantalus would be overrun once the Advari get they shit together. Farrens path goes down a multi-generational war with a technologically superior opponent that would justify them as defenders rather than aggressors, over incorrect intelligence, a war Tantalus would lose. They're both smart people, not smart enough to know they both right tho. The path to take is to reclaim territory in Tantalus and any Advari territory that allows crossing into Tantalus, which should be far enough away from their holy heartland or whatever. meanwhile you assign special ops team made up of the Guin and fast Union ships to make contact with dissident forces in the Advari. There's 3 options. 1. Follow the PMs plan and roll over to get absolutely fucked. 2 Follow the FAs plan to try and counter fuck them but get turned over and still get fucked. 3. Or, realise maybe the first alien species you come into contact with shouldn't see you as weak nor should be made an enemy, seeing as you can gain an ally that would change the course of human history
@@conayinka That makes sense, but you have to give Admiral Farren credit in recognizing the threat and wanted to stop it. My best guess would be to use intimidation as a weapon. Power projection, show the Advari that, while we are willing to negotiate and talk, we won’t run from fighting IF AND ONLY IF you attack us.
@@lucky_lynx7867 Exactly. Like why would you not want to at least send a reconnaissance force in to at least gather intelligence about their size and formations? Sounds like a lazy uninspiring woman. She can talk but when you actually get down to it, it’s a different story.
So this is how democracy dies
What the hell is the Prime Minister's problem? "Daragharagh, we must seek peace guys, yeah they're mostly bloodthirsty fanatics that was too busy blowing us up to talk to us, but peace is good guys".
To be fair, there is plenty of proof with Vadric that it is possible to establish dialogue and even friendship with the Advari. But what I feel like the Prime Minister does not truly understand is just how much of a threat humanity represents to the Faith Eternal, merely by existing. We know, of course, but few if any in Tantalus truly do.
All in favor of a vote-of-no-confidence on Prime Minister Nicola Sarali's leadership say I.
