      Haven't read that one to be honest so I couldn't compare, but I can give a favorite excerpt of mine from the first book; 'The Desperate Mission' of tLotJ.
      The context is Obi-Wan's on the planet Bellassa looking for clues as to an ex-Jedi friend of his named Ferus Olin, which brought him to a diner neighboring a former workplace of Olin's.
      Chp. 4, page 29: "At least the meal was good. Obi-wan bent over, inhaling the aroma, and took another bite. Qui-Gon would advise him to eat. He never believed in wasting an opportunity, even for food. He remembered one of the life lessons of the Masters when he was just a Padawan, something Qui-Gon liked to quote: *When food arrives, eat.* of course, the saying meant more than that. It was about enjoying what you have in the moment. But Qui-Gon's kindness had always extended to recognizing the hunger of a growing boy."
      That bit always stuck with me lol, and just made me love Qui-Gon's character even more when rewatching Phantom Menace.

    I like a lot of Legends but there are many things I would have liked more detail on. Interesting ship classes that you get a name for but no details or only ever get specifics on a special variant rather then the standard models (The Chasemaster and Stella class Frigates from the lats Legends novels and the CIS Wavecrest class being examples of the former, and the Class C Frigates and Alderaanian War Frigates among the latter.) Also I never understood why we never really saw the Alderaanian military fleet doing anything during the Legend Clone Wars material. Its too bad the RPG material has never really dove into the pre-Sith wars of the setting though. Or even really covered any of the pre-Clone Wars pre-Rusan Republic internal wars in much detail unless they involved the Sith. I would have love some sourcebooks covering the Alaskan Conflicts and the larger wars they were sometimes part of. (The Alaskan Conflicts were a series of 17 Republic Civil Wars which lasted decades or sometimes centuries and were sometimes part of larger Republic internal conflicts)

I LOVED the Star Trek 1980s novels that took enormous care to reflect canon whilst filling in gaps to make us believe how "us now" got to Star Trek TOS. Obviously we must now accept that "real life" cannot be reconciled with ST canon so we must simply accept that prime ST doesn't fit with our world.
    I accept that. Why can't various franchises accept such issues and at least keep future canon consistent? Apologies for bringing ST into this but I feel that there are similar issues the SW fans have had to accept so I empathise.

    What a brave statement, really being vulnerable with this one, eh? Star Wars wouldn't exist now without how good it was in the old days, it took Disney years to squander the good will.

    Don't know why my question keeps disappearing when I use the hastag, but here it is again. What's the difference between batteries, turrets, and regular weapons emplacements when talking about ship weapons. For example and ISD-1 has turbolaser batteries, turbolaser turrets, and just turbolasers. What does that actually mean?

    • @Alpha_Digamma
      @Alpha_Digamma วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      A turret can turn its turbolaser barrel into the desired direction, a battery is a turret with several barrels (2 to 8 in Star Wars) and a gun emplacement is a fixed gun. Either spinal mount (i. E. Eclipse superlaser) or broadside style like on sailing ships. You see those in the opening battle of Episode 3 and I believe later Star Destroyers have them too.
      Laser cannons can have several barrels too( see Millenium Falcon in Episode 4), but they don't get listed as batteries, I believe due to their small size.

    Question. How Sith Empire from Kotor dissapeared? I have seen some theories about massive war with the Republic that caused the fall of this Empire, but never in legends. Is there any actuall reason in legends?

    The Thrawn trilogy was great for the time, but man is it rough to revisit now. Mostly due to Zahn's writing style (and overuse of the word "sardonic") and his idolization of Luke.

  • @apeman505
    @apeman505 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    I wouldn't shy people away from the EU if they don't like Timothy Zahn. I personally think the Thrawn trilogy, while an interesting idea, was terribly written--I couldn't stand it. Same with Michael Stackpole's X-wing novels. But I really loved Courtship of Princess Leia, the Darth Bane Trilogy, Plagueis, Dooku Jedi Lost, the Clone Commando books, etc.
    Best advice I can give, is get yourself an e-reader and download whatever free samples you can find online. If something piques your interest, go with that.

      I would add Shadows of the Empire as essential reading. It fleshed out Luke and Vader a lot. Also, the Coruscant Nights trilogy for prequel fans.

    The Expanded Universe was the continuation of Star Wars done RIGHT.
    Even now, I keep going back to the old Legends stories..
    But Disney's version? Apart from the stuff Favreau's involved with and the Andor series, I'm barely interested in any of it..
    There was a time I watched and read EVERYTHING Star Wars, back before the Kennedy era..
    On the plus side, I've saved a LOT of money since the sequel trilogy came out..

    Star Wars legends was LEGENDARY
    Destroying it was the worst decision Disney ever made, all they had to do was just copy and paste legends material and make good shows and movies from legends. It was already there laid out for them. IT WAS PERFECT
