Pretty sure I read this somewhere in canon but always think it's cool how the Mon Calamari ships were their underwater buildings, so basically their cities became war fleets
That’s the Disney canon version. Originally in Legends, they were civilian vessels that were converted into warships. IIRC, most were luxury passenger liners although the Home One and her sisters were deep space exploration vessels
@@InvictusMatrixno, others are buildings as well, they are shown in a comic. It is kind of weird they made good warships though. Refitted civilian ships makes more sense.

#Askeck Could you do a video about the military of the Chiss during conflicts like the Swarm War? And maybe mention the Empire of the Hand too because their militaries were pretty similar. Also, we do see Mediators after Vector Prime, one is destroyed at the Battle of Ord Mantell.
Such a pity that none of the big-screen movies have given proper attention to capital ship battles yet. Space battles with tiny craft like X-wings can be epic enough, but I really hope to see a well-directed battle between giant ships slugging it out once too. Script-wise, there's a lot of famous naval battles they could borrow heavily from.
Mon Calamari ships have really begun to take my eye lately I love their lore as ships built by the Mon Calamari and Quarren as part of a long plan of liberation. The way I have interpreted the MC80 and MC80A, is that the MC80s were the Pre-liberation cruisers. The ones built before operation domino that were quickly refit into warships and used to defend Dac and a number sent over to the Rebel Alliance. The MC80A I think are the Post-liberation cruisers. The ones that weren't later refit but instead came off the shipyards as warships. They likely had some improvements over their refit cousins but were essentially the same design. MC80B might of had a bit better firepower than an ISD1, but perhaps not an ISD2? But I'm not sure it makes much of a difference, it's shields were better as were it's fighter craft. So I'd leave my money on the MC80B any day. The MC90 is pure awesome to me. Built from the ground up with the objective of out doing an ISD. Top notch technology. Cool design. Great ship.
The MC80B's weapons stats are the same as the MC80's. It was an improved refit of civilian ships in terms of armor and shielding. The MC90 is my favorite as well.
So from what I remember of the earlier source material the MC80b had the same number of weapons as an MC80 (48 Turbolasers, 20 Ion Cannons) but had them rearranged into banks of 12 Turbolasers and 5 Ion Cannons each, allowing for concentrated volleys that gave them a more *effective* punch versus an Imperial Star Destroyer.
I'm gonna once again announce that I liked the concept of the "scythe" Mon Cal ships. Because the thing they do is concentrate vast majority of their firepower forwards. So instead of a capital ship only able to use 40-50% of their guns against one enemy capital ship, they can concentrate fire and destroy the enemy quickly, then turn around and obliterate the next target. This does bring the risk of getting outmaneuvered and wasting valuable time turning the ship around and not being able to use those main batteries, but it is a calculated risk and lessened by flying in a formation with other ships. Mainly, I like it because it was a switch up from the way most SW ships were designed. The Mon Cal do seem like the people who would design something unconventional just to see if it works.
I love, how at the very bottom of the Mon Calamary cruisers lies the humble Dreadnought. Providence-class cruiser was an upscaled, improved Dreadnought, and first MCs were rebuild with lessons from Providence in mind. The weapon blisters on all MCs scream Dreadnought.
All the mon cal ships are insane. The essential guides and books clearly stated that the MC-80 had stronger shields and out gunned the modern Star Destroyers.
It would make sense any Capitol Ship would be different from any other. I real life it takes so long to complete a ship technology and Lessons Learned always means the newest one will be different. They reflect this concept in Star Trek as well.
Yeah, the reason this thing appears so many times in that scene in the 1970s Star Wars movies is it was cheaper to reproduce the model on screen than build a new one from scratch lol. They were trying to fill up space in the frame to make it look like a large battle and that was just the least expensive way to do it.
Cruise ships are often not built in standardized classes. Even ocean liners in the past (and the few places they still see use outside of relic ships used for the cheapest possible mode of transporting people) have often not been completely, with a goal of being, well, distinct from each other. You can easily look at the top luxury cruise ships of today, which in many cases share a basic hull or at least the start of one, but which can have entirely different layouts for pool shapes, whatever specific design of the random water slide they have, or maybe even a roller coaster? Googled it. Yes, there is at least one with a roller coaster. That is the best thing about the Mon Cala smokescreen, and why all those ships are so different in minor details, but having the same overall shape, of which they are limited to only a small couple of overall shapes. Since they were afterall built to mil-spec (or easily refittable to such) while being liners of one manner or another.

In fairness, Star Wars, no matter if its legends, canon (old), new canon, fanon (though some do decently), and random haphazard license assignments for anything from video games to table top to even card games, all share one issue. Namely: people are horrible at exponentials. Its why we have so many issues with conveying problems with the climate, but its also why even series like Star Trek are so horrible at estimating how many people a ship should have on them. Outside of total-nonsense outliers like the Sun Crusher, and to a lesser extent, The Arrowhead from the Freemakers saga (a LEGO Starwars specific story so it gets a bit of a pass that uses khyber crystals in a fighter-mounted superweapon capable of cutting smaller capital ships in half), the guys doing stuff are usually good at keeping the expectations of vessels in line with their size. This was a lot of fun, especially since I like EU Star Wars so much, and have a number of ild 90sand early 2000s, sources, from both Essential Guids and RzPG stuff, so I know a number of these, but a weird thing that at least MY nerf brain never noticed; there don't also seem to be any Duro-made ships, in the fleet. It's cool that the Mon Calamari were willing to take the risks, build, and supply so much of the Rebel, and later NR/Alliance fleet, even though we don't see them till later in the film series, but the Duros are famed fliers, and astrogators, so it seems kind of odd that, once they were firmly in the fold of the good guys, they weren't also giving their fighter plans, or capital ship designs, or even had their own, with such a storied history of being in space?
5:54The Mon Calamari depicted here is the Defiance, which was Admiral Ackbar's flagship during the war against the reborn Emperor Palpatine. It was during the events depicted in the novel "Darksaber"that Ackbar is now utilizing the Galactic Voyager, which he refers to as his favorite ship.
#Askeck I've always loved the Dark Forces games, and in particular the Moldy Crow. I know there are other ships in the line, and I was wondering about your thoughts on the aesthetics as well as the performance of the HWK-290 and HWK-1000. 5:35: I know that it is a very minor detail, but is there any lore how the alliance managed to make their tech fit the different species with their different sizes hands ect? It's a problem the human-centric epire clearly didn't had.
As near as I can tell, no. It gets a brief mention in the x-wing books where it appears they don’t go out of their way to fit non humans into x wings (ex piggy the gamorean and runt who is only there because he’s half normal size for his species), it’s more of a “you fit you fly” situation. As for bigger ships aside from a few lines saying mc cruisers crewed by mon calamari had humidifiers I can’t think of any specific retrofits for non humans. I haven’t finished new Jedi order though so maybe there is there, but I doubt it; because of their relative population it seems like humans are the “default setting”, so it makes sense on ships that will see a lot of personnel transfer you would want to keep things standardized for them. You wouldn’t want to overtune for one species to the detriment of another when you can just slightly tweak the baseline.

If you have read the 2017 Thrawn novels you have a pretty good idea of how they compare. Ar'alani's ship, the Steadfast, is not nearly as large as a Star Destroyer but it's weaponry is almost on par and the Grysks have ships that are 1.5 times as large as the Steadfast which means they are either equal or even stronger than an ISD. In Alliances Thrawn encounters two Grysk ships that are as large as the Chimaera and have two massive hangar doors where they store two ships the size of Arquiten's Light Cruisers.

I was also curious on your thoughts about the mild controversy of its original official length versus the size in the video games and Fantasy Flight Games' X-wing Miniatures gaming piece.
“The 90s were pretty much an upgrade in every way”. Ya, that is how I think of that decade also 😏
OMG YES FINALLY YOU MADE THIS VIDEO
wow got here very quick this time
Great video!
@askeck Hey man, I would love to hear some more lore about my favorite star wars ship "The Rathana class cruiser" Its a carrier that I hear about and I loved the idea of it, so hearing more in depth lore from my favorite sifi ship lore master would be awesome!
All this Mon-Calamari talk has left me feeling quite hungry......
First time being this early on a new video. Nice.
You should do one for canon as well, the mc85 is beautiful
I first thought that t Admiral Raddus’ ship The Profundity was a Providence Class cruiser
Did you ever do a lore video on Adas?
The title immediately piqued my interest, curious to learn more!
#Askeck
Could you do a video on how shields work in star wars? How can ships shoot through their own shields but block others. How planetary shields work. Etc.
#Askeck If you could create your own Imperial Remnant Faction in the lore of Legends what would you want your fleets to look like and who would you pick to be your commanding officers while you run the Remnant?
#AskEck Who are the Whills? Are they extremely powerful, enlightened Force users like the Ones, or are they Force Entities like the Bendu? George Lucas thought they were important, as some early drafts from the movies were "as taken from the Journal of the Whills." So he clearly assigned some greater meaning to them.
I've been a fan of capital ships out of the BSG deadlock game. Covering those would be super cool, i think, and how the colonial ships might fare against, say, Covenant or UNSC capital ships.
#askeck
#Askeck Have you done a video on bounty hunter/ Jedi ships? I remember that in the first essential guide to ships there were some unique vessels that Jedi used in the past, like Exar Kun era; Naomi Sunrider I think. Never had access to the other guides and was wondering if those books had any new information. Either way a video on those type of vessels would be cool.
Mom cal cruisers are and always will be my absolute favorite capitol ships , For Jedha !
Factions compared idea sci fi insect swarm. Such as Tyranids, Arachnids, Zerg, Rachni, Terminids.
what?
This could basically be a video about modern defense spending in the US.
Yo can't believe you did this so fast! been watching your content for years, you've kept my love for star wars alive since the Disney acquisition
had another #askeck , it's almost been five years since Rise of Skywalker released, would love to hear your opinions on how the sequels now after half a decade of new Star Wars content
The gameplay that was shown? Was that from thrown’s revenge? Did they add the resurgent class star destroyer?
I also have been wondering about this, I just gotta know what mod/sub-mod
@@Who-vm7rq I found a mod on steam workshop that does add it. But it says it’s only for 3.3 and hasn’t been updated. It might still work for 3.4 thrawn’s revenge. Haven’t tested it yet
#askeck how do the ships in the thrawn ascendancy novels compare to the ships of the empire and rebels? I've read the books but am having a hard time imagining the ships of the chiss, grysk and nikardun compared to the ships we've seen on screen.
In Alliances Thrawn encounters two Grysk ships that are as large as the Chimaera and have two massive hangar doors where they store two ships the size of Arquiten's Light Cruisers.
the MC-90s need a buff in SWEAW Thawns Rewenge because i like Acbar in the bigger MC-80s
#askeck I know you covered space stations a couple of times, but I never did see the 5 different space stations from star wars tie fighter game. How about doing something on those, even a short.
Was there ever a video made about the Mon Cal ship made during the Clone Wars? It was called a Ceremonial Ship but I never found any details.
Great video as always, i figure I'll try pitching a video
#Askeck While it was a tight kept secret amoung the imperials, with only a few knowing or guessing vader's identity, how well known was it that Vader was Anakin by the Rebels? Obviously Luke and those he trusted to tell knew by the end of ESB, but Bail Organs had to have known by the end of RotS, right? Did other top brass in the Alliance know about Anakin, and if not, why not?
#askeck hey told you do a ship breakdown on the Z-95 Headhunter???
I always thought the 80B was up gunned since mon reminda took on iron fust and held her iwn for a while
#askeck Were the star destroyers and other ships designed under the New Class project as powerful as they seem? I get the impression that no ship of their size could hold a candle to them. I also was wondering about some photon laser they had? Not sure if I made that up or not
#Askeck
How did Han Solo become a general, snd how did rank aquisistion work in the rebel alliance? Bring 3 guys with you when you join, become a commander? Sleep with a rebel founder, bunl that up to general? Did Ackbar get into the admiralty by bringing his own pair of freighters?
#AskEck Did the Mon Calamari make any Starfighters?
Or at least some small gunship type ships that are designed to mix it up with snubfighters.
And any other types like Corvettes or even light freighters - yes, competition for the Correllian modiefied
light freighter hero ship.
On the flip side, is there any information about Correllian Capital ships, besides Hans throwaway line in ANH?
And did Correllia design any snubfighters?
Of course that leads to the ultimate question..... any collaborations between those two iconic ship building systems?
The B- wing was designed by Admiral Ackbar.
#Askeck can you do a deep dive into what you think is the best designers ship and why? Best designed for both how it was intended to be used and how well it fit the roles of what it was thrust into (like how the venator was forced to be a front line warship)
#askeck
Much like Stan Lee’s _Who Wants to Be a Superhero?_ , if you could be your own original _Star Wars_ character that you could play as, what would you be? And what would be in your personal arsenal of ships, weapons, armor, et cetera?
At 8:36 what game are you playing?
#askeck Idea for a galactic versus episode how many halo Spartans would it take to execute “Operation Knightfall” ie the eradication of the Jedi on Corascant and sacking of the Jedi temple
Pretty sure it's actually pronounced warlord "jin-jah"
That's how Marc Thompson says it.
@@ladylolth3057 yuh, just what I'm used to
Erm second I guess but Mon cal are me fav
You first comment gang
#askeck interested in a video covering the meaning of the names of ISD's. Possibly with relation to the writer.
Wouldnt the interior of these building ships be vertically situated instead of horizontally?
Mon remonda could almost go toe to with iron fist, (this is bsck when ssd's were only four times as powerful as a isd) id peg the remonda at a good bit more powerful than an isd2
#AskEck Could you do a video explaining the difference between modified New Republic Star Destroyers like the Anakin Solo and stock ISD2's?
Where’s the doggo?
8:42 Have you ever considered this?👀 Writing your own Star Wars story I mean. What would your story prioritize? What events would you want to cover? (Or create?) #AskEck
#askeck What would be your personal choice in Star Wars CQC weapon? To go along with that what would be your choice in fighting style? If you chose a lightsaber what fighting form(s) would you want to master?
#askeck can we do a video on the different support tech/robotic units between the factions? I feel like the support unit doesn't get enough love in star wars while they do so much. I.e. old Republic v. The old sith, high Republic v. Criminal underground, new Republic v. CIS, etc.
#AskAck
What is your opinion on the more fantasy side of Star Wars? Everyone always says Star Wars is sci-fi, but in my opinion it’s just as much fantasy.
#Askeck If you had to write and direct the sequel trilogy from scratch, how would you approach it? Would you scrap the version we got completely or rework it with some more Legends elements, for example?
#askeck idk why but I really want you to validate my feelings on the battlefront books. I haven’t heard anyone talk about them since they released.
#AskEsk. Can you do a Battletech vs Star Wars video? Personally I think that Battletech, despite being more of a realist sci-fi compared to Star Wars, might be able to defeat multiple factions on both ground and space combat.
In remake mod for eaw foc the nebula sux hard fr.
Not sure if there's enough content in the topic, I'll leave that up to you, but what do you think about the direction of star wars lately (main movies) ? Given that the skywalker trilogy is objectively considered pretty bad
0:43 did you ever do the ship that was featured in Outbound Flight?
He has yes, to an extent.
It you remember the outbound flight project was 5 or 6 dreadnought heavy cruisers around a frame that basically just functioned as a structure for them to attach to and store stuff. But the important part of the outbound flight ship was that it was 6 dreadnought heavy cruisers that could detach and function separately.
@@chimera6485 yep dreadnoughts attached.
#Askeck why was the dreadnought heavy cruiser in Star Wars rebels for one scene but then it never did anything? I want to know your opinion on this!
#Askeck what is the most underused trooper in your opinion
#AskEck
Whose lightsaber is the most unique, and whose is your personal favorite?
#askeck
Watching your footage i figured I'd ask: Would you consider doing a video on the old Xbox clone wars game. Like going over the story and your opinion on the game
#Askeck Is there a logical answer to why in Star Wars 8, when the resistance ships ran out of fuel, they also seemed to lose power? Is it the ship’s power supply that requires fuel, or did the resistance not have the resources needed to properly run the ships and have to rely on old systems that interfered with the built in systems?
#Askeck hey could you please make a video about how you would plan the future slate of the Star wars universe and will you countinue the skywalker saga or will you move away from it and how will you manage TV shows and movies and which time periods do you think will be interesting to explore.this type of video would be hypothetical and do you think they should have a new big bad evil guy and will you make more projects after the sequel trilogy or before it please reply I beg you please 🥺🙏
Ever heard of Jodo Kast?
The Boba Fett impostor.
