I think Singapore is probably one of the rare countries in the world to pamper its residents so much (in a good way because you do not see these in other countries) in terms of having passenger lifts installed at bridges, having escalators in both directions in train stations and having lots of sheltered or covered walkways linking train stations to shopping malls, bus interchanges, housing estates, schools, markets etc.

Yes I agree Changi is the best airport in the world! I might be biased because I'm Singaporean, but as a person who travels so much, Changi's atmosphere and accessibility is always so comforting - unlike the cold grey steel and glass of every other airport that exists.

It's great that you chose to highlight what you like about Singapore instead of the frustrations. ☺
Food Panda and Deliveroo offer more choices at a faster speed than McDelivery.
One reason why there is a bidet spray is for our Muslim friends who need to use them. The rest of us benefit as well.

    • @manchesterunitedno7
      @manchesterunitedno7 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Bidet is not originated for Muslim. It's already common things in Japan for long. Still, for me bidet is absolute must in public restroom. We are living in 21st century, the way we use the toilet should progress.

    • @RaineJT
      @RaineJT 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Bidet is French, but I think what Sara Lin was saying is that since Singapore is a multicultural society that celebrates cleanliness the bidet is a natural solution to not only the paper waste problem, but it offers a clean solution to the Muslim population. While the tradition still dictates the 1-handed interaction, the flexibility is inherent and reduces sickness amongst all citizens.

I’m team Grab because the payment for Uber is processed overseas, so you’ll end up paying a few cents more than what is stated on the app.
There are places like the National University Hospital in which the bidet spray is incorporated in the toilet bowl itself. All you have to do is to turn the knob by the side of the bowl and a small spout will emerge and spray a jet of water. So you don’t even have to get up.
As for the COE, there are still way too many cars on the road. It doesn’t work. The main thing is that people still view cars as a status symbol, especially when it is ridiculously expensive here.
I think Gordon Ramsey is going to start a Hawker Centre in the UK. He was inspired by his experiences in Singapore.

The airport is the world's best. It's genius that each gate has the security check so the lines are shorter and they have checked you when it's essential to. I love Singapore's greenery and the signs that encourage you to take the stairs ("If you take these stairs instead of the escalator you'll burn x times the calories.

The pocket thing that is installed in all vehicles is called an IU unit. Singapore is so genius that you do not have to stop to pay tolls. It will be automatically deducted through that unit when you pass the gantry and will even fine you if you tried to evade the toll by not inserting your card in the unit. Each gantry has a camera that will take the picture of the rear number plate when it detects a non payment or a insufficent value in the card. Singapore is very efficient in taking people's money. Hahaha

You have touch-n-go since 1997, and look how long it took for it to be used universally in all forms of public transport....if at all. Does not seem like a very smart system from the onset when it is not that universal, so in what way is it genius?

When I first returned to the UK and went grocery shopping I’d genuinely forget that it wasn’t the norm for the cashier to unload my items from my basket and pack them for me and would end up looking very rude.

    My own list:
1, Urine Detection Units in elevators
2, A government branch dedicated to making sure toilets are clean all over the country
3, All you can eat Indian Buffets
4, Hawker Centres, particularly in expensive parts of the Island, such as East Coast Park, Sentosa and Marina Bay.
5, Mandatory quotas by race and religion for each district of the city, thereby avoiding ghettoes (London could really learn from this).
6, No drinking and eating on the Underground (again, compare this to London, a simple but genius idea that benefits everyone. Though they could make an exception with plain water, I feel).
7, Caning petty criminals, rapists and illegal immigrants. Might be cruel, but it self-evidently works.
8, Strict drug laws with actual enforcement. Again, you can't argue with the results.
9, very low taxes on personal income.
10, A two-tier immigration system. A work permit is for unskilled workers, does not give you rights to citizenship. An Employment Pass for skilled workers gives you the right to request permanent residency and after that citizenship.
11, A university grant system for foreigners, whereby they cover your tuition costs if you stay in Singapore for five years after graduation.

The closest thing you have to a hawker centre in Europe is probably the food courts in shopping malls where you can go to different stands to get Thai, Italian or KFC and eat them communally. I've seen them in Germany, not sure about the UK. France tried to do a similar concept in Paris but the idea of eating different cuisines at the same table is too foreign for them. They mostly end up choosing the same type of food which defeats the purpose.
As for Uber, it's frustrating how there is barely a loyalty program. The only discount I remembered getting is the first time you use it (5 euros off) and then, nothing- and I've been using it for years, several times a month! When you go to Singapore or Malaysia, you get promo codes all the time so you rarely ever pay the full price of the ride.

Mcdonald delivers 24/7 so what? I had bad service from Mcdonald. The delivery, at most, would take 10 minutes but Mcdonald did not deliver after more than 2 hours. We called up and demanded an explanation and the service staff told us that the delivery guy (outsourced delivery company) did not pick up our order. We told the service staff to fxxx off. There was no excuse as Mcdonald was supposed to make sure that the delivery staff picked it up and/or inform us of any delay. We, as consumer, don't fuck care whether Mcdonald outsource out the delivery or does it inhouse. The fact is that they should be responsible to ensure that the delivery commitments are met.

not only in singapore most if not all south east asian countries use water instead of toilet paper. its been going on for ages. back in kampung i.e village days, the people wash it after doing their business. they use a scoop back then. later on use a water hose and finally a bidet spray. its cleaner that way then toilet paper. its not genius. its just common sense.

The thing that amazes me about Singapore is that so many people still choose to drive, when the public transport is so good ! (Yes people have some gripes, but compared to just about ever other country the public transport is brilliant). Also given the costs associated with Car ownership, there must be so many rich people in Singapore !

Am a Singaporean studying in UK, happened to chance upon your video.
Funnily enough, I knew of POP stations in Sg but never used them. In fact, the first one I used was in UK and it was an Amazon locker. Perhaps it's because I'm living in a uni campus, there are quite a few of em in my area. And yes it's so convenient to collect / return parcels with the lockers!
One thing I definitely do miss when I'm in UK is the distance-based pricing for bus fares ... I don't take buses that often, so when I do, I have to buy single tickets that cost at least £1.50 ($2.65). I mean, it's worth it if I'm travelling from one end to the other, but often I need it for distances that may be slightly far to walk, yet not quite worth the price. In Sg, the same distance would probably cost me half or less of £1.50.
The thing with MCs though, is that some people end up abusing it by feigning sickness to get MCs. And of course, there are less than honest doctors that will simply close one eye (or two) to issue the MCs.

Hi Georgia. Brilliant video and spot on with all your great informations. Pretty much I would have said the same,
I'm from New Zealand, and regularly travel to SG and living at RiverBay building for some short periods, for the duration of 4 years.
Hahaha... I totally agree with you, especially about 'McDelivery' - that's truly God send from Heaven. ...Geeeeeniusss!! 😆😆 Not to forget 'BK Delivery' too.
The one thing I truly hate most in Singapore, are those ERP gantries and it's EVERYWHERE.
That's government LTA REVENUE gatherings. In 24hrs, the ERP can easily collect over $1 million of per day. I drive in SG quite often, especially into the city, so I would know this pretty well, coz I hate hearing the 'Beep' tones each gantry point. Haha

I honestly agree with you ylw . Being a Grab Platinum member , nowadays I see no point being Team Grab . Prioritized Bookings and Platinum support line is just a gimmick by Grab 'Loyalty Programme' .
Prioritized bookings : I do notice that bookings are a bit faster . I did several tests with my friends who are curious about Grab Platinum so we booked from the same exact pickup and drop-off destination . Mine ? 10seconds faster . The grab app still displays that the both the drivers requires the same time to reach our pickup point.
Platinum support line : Pain in the ass ! Grab doesn't email or notify you the platinum hotline number . Furthermore , why need a platinum support line when the general Grab hotline 66550005 answers the call almost immediately (after you complete keying your reason for calling).
I agree that Grab have a variety of services , such as GrabHitch , JustGrab etc... and it gives promo codes . Anyways , did you realize that the Grab Promo code given now only last for half a day? Even if you're a silver / gold or platinum member.
This is just my personal opinion , I used to be TeamGrab and I might still be , just wished that Grab improved their 'Loyalty Programme".

Love all your videos about Singapore! I'm a Singaporean and it's so damn accurate hahah.
    1. Team Grab is the way to go
    2. Bidet sprays are amazing. I have one installed at home
    3. COE is nonsense... Makes cars so expensive.. you can get 2 Ferraris elsewhere but for the price of 1 in Singapore.
    4. Hawkers are the best. Try out Old Airport Road, Maxwell Market, Bedok block85 market at night, A few of my favourites and u should try them haha
    5. Mcdelivery is a dream come through. We have KFC delivery too. Our delivery services Foodpanda and Deliveroo Are also very good and u can check them out.
Looking forward to more Singapore videos from you! Cheers!

I agree with everything except COE, coz it makes cars way tpp expensive for me. But then again, I can't drive haha and the transport system is pretty good despite the many train breakdowns lately, I don't need a car. Team Grab coz it has more options. I use the Grab taxi mostly coz, I think it's cheaper.
By the way, Burger King, KFC, Pizza Hut and other popular fast food do delivery as well. Singaporeans are spoilt for choice when it comes to food delivery. What more with the Food Panda, Deliveroo etc where they offer cross restaurants home delivery services. Genius!!

Other than for what you mentioned, every time I come home I wash my feet cause it's hot here and our feet is like sweaty and stuff, and I just spray my feet and be done!! Some students even travel to Changi just to study or chill, even though there isn't much to do there other then walk around the terminals and shops.

COE is genius??? ROFL. U're gonna get slaughtered by any Singaporeans who watched this although a local myself I do agree with U
I think the traffic here is ok even during peak hours the traffic still moves at a decent pace. I've been to far too many countries where peak hour traffic means the car does not move at all. Just go to Jakarta or even KL to experience this. Closer to the UK, Paris would be a good example.
BTW the prices are subjected to bidding. How it basically works is number of COE that expires will be put up for bids. The lowest winning bid will be the price of the COE. So if there are 100 COE up for grabs, and the 100th highest bid is say $30K. The COE price will be 30K. There was even winning bids of $1 many years ago IIRC

Hi Georgia, You are incredible the way you appreciate all the Everyday things abt SG life which we Singaporeans not only take for granted, we still complain. Talking for myself, I grouse about how inconsiderate most ppl are when leaving tables at Food outlets. Nowadays most places have Collection Areas where we are expected to place our used plates. While many do do this, many many more do NOT bother. They don’t even try to tidy up by stacking and wiping up their mess!!! Georgia, u r so cute the way you pronounce some local terms. However, with respect, I wold like you to pounce “Changi” with a silent “g” (Chang as in ‘hung” add ee ). I love your videos as you are so candid.
