    • @miguelbalisi9952
      @miguelbalisi9952 หลายเดือนก่อน

Singapore is undeniably rich. Mainly because of disciplined Singaporeans and because of how it is run--strictly and unbending. Laws are imposed and felt by everyone, no one is special unlike in so many countries. A world model. More than 30 years ago, an American lad was lashed simply for vandalism. A tiny violation in other countries is equal to a big crime in Singapore. A Filipina ( it was controversial ) was hanged about the same period. The Middle East besides Singapore are easily THE SAFEST COUNTRIES of the world because of strict governance and imposition of laws. There are so many countries with economies as tiny as Singapore that have been poor for decades. We can say their culture played big as to how their status has been to this day, yet we've seen big improvements in a few of those same countries which defy reasons for not developing, if not for becoming rich. It is all up to how a government handles an independent nation. However, there is the factor of population size, that also made Singapore. It couldn't have progressed fast had it been as huge as India's or China's. This is interestingly debatable. Ultimately, the form of government is always manifested in the living conditions and the orderliness or otherwise, of a nation's society. Complete freedom or lack thereof, the punishment for every law violation and again, lack thereof, results in how we see societies. It is noteworthy to mention that Laws are made to be imposed.

His reforms are directly resposible for what Singapore is today. Yes it's a tiny country, but it was in the hands of a great leader. How many great countries have been brought to their knees because of incopentent, stupid leaders? But in 1997, the economic crisis ruined Thailand a lot. The impact caused the number of suicide, crimes and unemployment are incredibly high. After that, Thailand has stuck for decades in development due to corruption and military action. At the same time, Singapore's economy was developing so fast and no one couldn't even believe that such a small country and water aren't drinkable like Singapore can surpass Thailand easily. Honestly as a Singaporean in this covid-19 Im thankful for being a singaporean. The government has many layers of strategy and subsidies for any situation. Many people complained for years about the high tax and CPF. Now the citizens are thankful because there are just so many types of grant available for people who lost their jobs or had a pay cut. It's something not seen in other countries and reduces the burden on it's citizens. Singapore government is rich yes, but they do not use that do their personal advantage and now the citizens get back the money they payed yearly through tax.

Hexroad Ammo as a singaporean yes our houses are affordable. Not cheap that I agree. If your a singaporean please educate yourself on economics and valuation of land. Our country is small and demand is high with little supplies of course houses would be expensive but the government pushed the cost down and also provided multiple packages for singaporean families to apply for grants in which effectively shave off a few grand. And also if you worked the CPF is more than sufficient to buy a house meaning to say by right if your not a free loader you would be able to afford a house without using cash. Please just get out of Singapore and also open your eyes for example the most similar city also a financial hub Hong Kong’s property prices is only affordable to the rich. In Singapore 95% and above of Singaporean’s fully own our own house. You have no idea how blessed you are to be a singaporean and to be here. Open your eyes travel out of your comfort zone and I am sure your views would have changed. If not then I suggest you either leave and look for your wonderland or go look for counselling because you are either not bothered to educate yourself on macroeconomics and the reason why property prices in Singapore cannot be lower than current valuation due to demand and supply (little land). It is people like you that complain for the sake of complaining and not realising that you are blessed that annoys me. Sure go ahead and migrate to get a house for thousands of dollars or few grands for a large house but at the cost of security, safety, job opportunities, family enrichment, family safety, child education etc. You should be ashamed of yourself for not understanding that our houses is affordable and cheap in this regard to all Singaporean’s but not so for foreigners.

But the average inequality of the whole country is evened out by the relatively lower levels of inequality of rural areas. Singapore has no rural areas.

"Political stability - the single reason why Singapore is doing so well.
It both baffles and pains me to see how many people still love to complain about the situation in the city-state - which surely is the best place to live in the world.
And the sole reason it can be what it is, is its political stability. That's what so many fail to realize.
Unlike in the West, where no government knows if it's going to survive the next 2, 3, 4 years, in Singapore the ruling PAP has always been rather comfortable, knowing that it will retain its position after the next round of voting.
    Why is it important?
Simple - can you imagine planning 5, 10, 20 years in advance, if you don't know that you're going to be in charge? How do you make strategic choices about the country's future, if 3 years from now opposition can take over and rip all your ideas apart?
If you want to see how it works, just look at Malaysia - HSR delayed, ECRL cancelled, MRT2 postponed, MRT3 axed.
That's why nothing ever gets done in the West these days either. Countries are sinking in debt, dragged by economic stagnation and unsustainable welfare - welfare that was passed, in the first place, to buy votes in previous election cycles.
It's not a sustainable way to govern - it's a recipe for disaster.
Singapore is so wealthy because foreign investors and business have long been assured of its stability. They know the tax regime is going to be friendly, that there is no bureaucracy to worry about, no corruption, that it's safe and well-organized.
But who would invest in a small country where chaos reigns?
Can you imagine a coalition of opposition parties, for whom the common denominator is merely their reckless hate of the PAP? Foreign capital would be gone faster than it came in.
Of course many people who support opposition are also highly opposed to "Foreign Trash". Oh you see a lot of this vitriol around - what is doubly ironic as many of them actually work in foreign companies. Somehow this contradiction is lost on them.
You can't be pro- and anti- at the same time. You cannot be both open and closed. You cannot support competition and expect someone to build protective barriers to ensure you have a peachy lifestyle. You cannot expect foreign capital to come and not bring foreigners with it.
You have to fend for yourself - and Singaporean government has created the best conditions for people to actually be able to do that - precisely because it didn't have to worry about political competition too much and could focus on good governance with a long term in mind."

The naming came from the EIU survey I think, based on an expatriate lifestyle (which typically consumes more premium goods & services). What that survey didn't manage to capture I think was the fact that basic and premium goods & services in Singapore have larger differences in prices than in other cities/countries. E.g. Starbucks coffee in Singapore costs about the same as in Western countries I think (S$4-6/cup), but coffee sold in local open-air coffee shops/hawker centres (buildings dedicated for street food sellers to operate, for hygiene reasons) are much cheaper (S$1.20-$2/cup), although you might argue that these 2 types of coffee are a little different (the local ones are said to be sweeter and oilier, maybe because different coffee beans are used (probably Robusta instead of the more expensive Arabica I think) often from nearby Indonesia, lowering shipment costs. (It helps that coffee-growing & Singapore are both in tropical climates I think.) The beans are also grounded in advance in a factory rather than being ground on-the-spot in the coffee shop with an expresso machine)
