    I priced up the parts needed to do something similar, and honestly it came to about £40 more expensive than just buying one.
    Maybe the pre-built options available now in 2022 weren't around back when you made this in 2018.

    Great video. I saw your rig dimensions in the comments section and I thought I would see how much I could get this set up for. I found a company in the U.K. that will cut everything to size and supply all fixings for £250 plus shipping.
    Then I have to add an seat approx £140 to £200. So I could get everything to make this in the U.K. for about £400 to £450.
    Thank you for posting the dimensions. I had to guess a few of them but posting the main dimensions was very helpful 👍

    • @mattkeeber941
      @mattkeeber941  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      £250 is a great price - a fraction of the cost of a simlabs or heusinkveld.
      I love the way profile is so adjustable too - I've been busy with work and haven't done an update, but the G920 is gone and I now run a OSW direct drive wheel as well as the Heusinkveld pedals. it's more than sturdy enough to handle the forces they produce.

    Fantastic, this is very similar to the GT1 rig. I'm not sure £320 such a huge savings over the grey GT1 which is €329.75 plus shipping (that's the real problem if you are far from the Netherlands) and comes with a really nice foot plate and wheel mount for direct drive bases. Not as important for a Logitech wheel and the mount you made seems pretty solid. Great job overall.

      Grainger industrial supply is the company i am using. to make a cockpit similar to the simlab gt you need just over 72 inches of framing extrusion. i am using 1.5 x 3 . grainger sells it for about 40$ for a 72 inch piece and luckily for me i live about an hour from one. i only mention them because of how many stores they have and how cheap it can be. i would find the hardware for connections from somewhere else though.
      1 40x80L 195mm 2
      2 40x80L 1350mm 2
      3 40x80L 420mm 1
      4 40x80L 500mm 3
      5 40x80L 580mm 2
      6 40x40L 500mm 2
      that is the list of cuts needed but that list adds up to a little more than 70 inches so remove 12.7 mm from the longest 2 and you can get these from one single piece of 72 inch extrusion. t nuts can be had about about 1 dollar each if you look in the right places and are pretty good quality. you will also need l brackets with gussets (you can get ones without but it wont be as ridged in the end)

    • @extramedium3561
      @extramedium3561 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sorry, missed this comment.
      £300 for the aluminium & brackets to make it, £20 for a local company to cut it to length, seat was cheapest available from JJC race & rally @ £200. Could be done way cheaper with a car seat from a scrapyard or something.
      It all came from a small local supplier, but plenty of places online, just search for aluminium profile
      I'm midway through a house move at the moment so everything is In storage and I don't have access to any exact parts, but the base is 1350x600mm, wheeldeck 600mm wide, 500mm high, pedal mount 400x520mm with 4x 150mm legs for the pedal height adjustment and the wheel stand.

      good products cost money very nice rig. for those looking for saving this could be done with wood for half the cost easy and like he said a car seat from the junkyard will be loads cheaper. but sitting on someone else butt juice is well worth the 200-400$ new seat...lol
      thanks for supplying the measurements very detailed video. I've been looking into building my own rig for a while but the more you look at it the more buying a fully built rig seems to be just as expensive then building a quality one yourself. only way to save is doing it from wood.

  • @asambi69

    • @mattkeeber941
      @mattkeeber941  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t know for sure, but this stuff was labelled as Bosch Rexroth compatible, so while it was generic aluminium profile, the brackets were sized / spaced for seemingly a specific system type.
      Lots of the brackets had little notches on that would slide into the profile to stop the bracket moving/ twisting, however they were easy to snap off so providing the hole sizes were spaced correctly, I can’t see why they wouldn’t fit other manufacturers.

    Hi Matt, I have quite the same physique as you, so may I ask how satisfied you are with the OMP TRS-E seat? (I have to decide between the regular TRS-E and the TRS-E XL...) Any inputs appreciated ;)

    • @mattkeeber941
      @mattkeeber941  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheap and cheerful. It’s fine for the sim rig but I wouldn’t want it for a real car, the padding is very thin.
      The fabric’s also pulled out of the harness hole covers so looks pretty tatty - think I’d spend more doing it again.

      Matt Keeber: sorry to hear... what about the size? Are you happy with the regular size TRS-E or do you wish it were a bit wider than 39 cm? Thanks!

      il monco 73 it’s not fragile. After this video I bought a direct drive wheel and heusinkveld pedals, held up to the challenge of those equally well.
      It is metal so once bolted together, very rigid

    I know this is a couple of year old video, but I don't see the questions asked that seems obvious, what did you use to mount the steering wheel and what adjust-ability does it have? Thank you.

      Just because it uses aluminium extrusion, similar in style to a prefab - doesn’t mean it was bought as a prefab kit. Once I’d worked out the sizes in sketch up, I had a local company cut all the lengths so i could just crack on making it and show it was possible to make a decent rig at home. I hear you can buy a prefab for cheaper than sourcing extrusion yourself now so this video became pointless as the years went on.

    Thanks for the video, I think i will go this route. How is the seat on long drives, is it comfortable?

    • @mattkeeber941
      @mattkeeber941  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its firm, but not uncomfortable, it is a cheap metal framed seat so nowhere near as comfy as the fiberglass sparco I had in my track car... they were double the price though. (£400+)
      This is absolutely fine for gaming in, done plenty of 4 - 5hr stints in it. Had my budget stretched further, I would have picked something nicer up though.
