    Is there any tip over protection on this beautiful bike ????

    • @RidersDomain
      @RidersDomain  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Vada - great question. As with most motorcycle's, even minor tip overs are going to cause some damage. The Star Venture doesn't come equipped with crash bars. We'll do some more digging and find out if we can answer your question...

    • @RidersDomain
      @RidersDomain  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hi Vada, here is a follow-up to your question: If the Star Venture tips over at a stand still, it will rest on the engine guard and the bottom of either side case. The cases include integrated protection so they won't get banged up.
      Hope this helps.

    A nice bike and solid review. I ride a new Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager, while very similar it never gets compared against any of the large touring motorcycles. I am curious why? V-Twin (Yes), Full luggage (Yes), Cruise (Yes), Stereo, (Yes), Comfort for rider and passenger (Hell Yes), liquid cooled (Yes), $8-10K less than comparable bikes new (Double hell Yes)! ABS (Yes), Reliability (Yes). While I like this new Yamaha, other than the reverse gear, you could have been describing my Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager.
    Enjoy whatever you ride and Ill see you down the road!

    • @bookemdanno4355

      I don't think it gets compared due to the lack of technology. I have yet to find a Kawasaki dealer near me who will stock a voyager in the showroom. The Vaquero seems to be a better seller. I just road the yamaha last weekend and it's an impressive bike. very light off the stand, good power, smooth so smooth.

  • @buddywilson104
    @buddywilson104 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Okay, well I own this bike and it's awesome. Smooth, powerful, quiet, and feels like a real motorcycle. No disrespect to the wing riders; I thought I wanted one (a wing) until I rode one again recently. (And I have rode wings in the past, many miles). This bike is stable, confidence inspiring, and runs and feels like a real motorcycle; not a sewing machine. Nothing wrong with the smooth, quiet, powerful sewing machines; if that's what you want. The Venture has tons of torque, cruises all day at 75 mph at 2750 rpm, and is super comfortable; much more comfortable than the wing in my opinion. It has GPS, cruise, great infotainment system, power windshield, heated seats and grips, tons of storage, alarm system, etc.. If you want a sport bike, this is not it. If you want a sport touring bike, this is not it. If you want a great interstate touring bike that will go forever in comfort with tons of amenities, this is it. As far as air cooled, get over it people. Very few people ever ride in temps that it becomes an issue. This is not a ride around in the city everyday bike. If you get stuck in traffic on a hot day traveling while in the city, yes it will get warm. Like every other air cooled bike. Yamaha did extensive testing regarding this issue and it's not an issue. It's a touring bike. Made for back roads and freeways. And it handles it all very well. Great bike!!

    • @gwrider2146
      @gwrider2146 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've found that when riding an air cooled bike in traffic it stays cooler if you short shift the engine & keep the revs to a minimum. Need to stop revving it up and drag racing the traffic! ;-)

    Great video and thanks for putting it together! Unfortunately in the world of internet we have those that like to run their mouth and try to fool someone into believing that they know something by commenting with a condescending tone, when they can't even read part 3! I had an 1988 Yamaha venture 1300 and loved the whole radio system omn that bike the controls were brilliant then , when i brought the whole set up for the helmet I had an open faced helemt while my wife had the full face loved chatting away to each other and the voice operated mic what a great old beast and this one oh wow sadly at 71 and now retired I am glad the Yamaha are still right out there and up against the likes of Honda or Victory Yamaha have nailed it.

    I can't understand why this bike hasn't sold very well. No 2019 model was forthcoming from Yamaha and I think you have to pre-order the 2020's. The only reason I didn't buy one when they first came out was because I had just purchased a Street Glide 3 months prior. All in all, it probably worked out for the best because I traded-in that SG three years later on a leftover 2018 at a significant discount in price. They're selling the 2018's right now in the $18k-$19k range. This is unquestionably the nicest bike I've ever owned in my 40+ years of riding.

    I had a 2005 Royal Star Venture i rode for 10 years. It was a good bike and I took a lot of trips on it. I waited for years for Yamaha to come out with an updated version of the bike to no avail. Then 3 months after I bought my Street Glide, boom...new Venture. At 65, my window for riding 800+ pound bikes is closing. This could be my last bike if I think can handle it at 69, lol.

    • @RidersDomain
      @RidersDomain  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi - it actually does offer some form of tip over protection. If the Star Venture tips over at a stand still, it will rest on the engine guard and the bottom of either side case. The cases include integrated protection so they won't get banged up - it will rest at approximately 45 degrees of lean.

    • @gabbyhayes1568
      @gabbyhayes1568 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@RidersDomain The integrated protection strips running along the bottom of the side case is replaceable should a mishap come along. It's much cheaper to replace an engine guard and the protection strip than it is the lower fairing and saddlebags. Yamaha was hip to that.

    Very nice review in this 3 part series. Bravo to Yamaha for building this bike and I hope they sell a boatload of them. That faring is very nice to look at. The price is most competitive in this category of bikes and if it has the typical Yamaha quality it will be close to trouble free. I can not wait to see what the new Goldwing and F6B has in store late this year or early next year. Speculation is all over the place except it will be a tech marvel and the new design will be a radical departure from previous G.W. Back to the Venture - I am a solo rider so please Yamaha bring this platform minus a 100 lbs into a bagger/street glide version, and I will trade in my Victory Cross Country.

      The only advantage this bike has over the Goldwing is the updated infotainment system. The Vtwin is no comparison to the Goldwing 6cyl and the Goldwing is far more agile than this heavy beast. An air cooled Vtwin, no thanks.

    This seems to be the almost perfect missing link between the Harley and Honda touring class. I don't expect or need high end horsepower on this type of bike. If I find the air-cooled motor heat to be manageable, my Electra Glide may be traded soon. Nice work on the review.

    Perfect except for being air cooled. Air cooled engines have to be built to greater tolerances due to the fact they operate in a greater range of temperatures and parts expand and contract to much greater degrees. As such they have to be built "half worn out" compared to water cooled engines. But this wouldn't stop me personally from buying this bike; it just won't last as long as a water cooled motor like the Wing, all else being equal.
    Great bike overall; I put 360K on an older 1985 Venture with absolutely no engine troubles whatsoever....

    • @Tim2Wheels
      @Tim2Wheels 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I found the answer to my own question. NO the Star Venture does not support Bluetooth to the headsets. That's disappointing for such an advanced machine. Let's hope SENA releases a Freewire for this bike like they have for the Goldwing and Harley-Davidson .

  • @davidgreenlees4120
    @davidgreenlees4120 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I can't believe Yamaha went to all the trouble to build such a great bike and left off the electronic suspension adjustment (ESA)! That's what I hate most about my current bike, since my wife rides with me about 50% of the time and sometimes I take trips where the bike is loaded and sometimes it isn't. Having to manually adjust the damping and rebound is a pain!! Please Yamaha, put ESA on this beautiful and wonderful bike!

      You might as well add the Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager 1700 and declare it the winner. A great motorcycle at roughly $10-15K less the price with liquid cooling, fans that drive heat away from the engine and proven reliability. The voyager has tons of equipment standard ; Linked ABS, Air-Shocks, Stereo, Cruise Control, Self cancelling signals, full tour-pak luggage, driving lights, while the digital screen is not exciting, it does everything else.
      Why doesn't it make anyone's list in a comparison of touring bikes? (Says this biased owner).

    Bike is beautiful! Looks great! Great styling, comfort and features! Infotainmnet will put other manufactures on notice! But.....I think this is the Raider engine or derived from the Raider engine. OK, not a problem there, but its AIR COOLED! This bike would seem so much more marketable if it were liquid cooled! I like the technology, the comforts, the the air cooled engine is a deal breaker. Yamaha, please add a radiator to this engine!

    Alrighty then. I am just as much as a Torque person being into trucks. But just as with truck and their massive torques, there also needs to be a certain amount of Horsepower which always goes hand-in-hand, Which is still not mentions in any of the Yamaha break downs specs anywhere on the web and certainly not on any Yamaha online sites. Other that that it is a fantastic video and presentation. Very much appreciated it and enjoyed watching. As much as I would love to buy this motorcycle, I'm honestly getting the feeling that all my hopes and dreams will crash once I hear about the true amount of Bhp and will finally end up with the K1600B instead.

    • @ThomasConwayteach
      @ThomasConwayteach 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The horsepower will be in the mid to high 70s at most. It will be sluggish regarding roll-on. That's for certain. And also, it will run very hot given the weight of the bike. Those are just the realities of this effort, which has too many design mistakes to be worth the money.

    • @RichDunn
      @RichDunn 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well it's not going to have the hp of a K1600 engine that's for sure. I'd guess 100 hp. Torque will be similar, but it'll be a heavier bike. That said they claim 75 mph only takes 2,750 rpm. And as the bike isn't going to appeal to anyone wanting to sit at 140 mph on the autobahn, does it really matter? The front (as well as reserve) park assist is a USP over BMW's reverse only. I'd say the BMW will handle better, be easier to clean and will go faster, while sounding like an F1 car. But the Venture will be more comfortable, and more practical for two over big distances. Either way, they're probably win-win bikes.

    • @jameswinters7733
      @jameswinters7733 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got the spec's yesterday. It was very low. I have it on another website. It was something like 76.9 bhp@ (4500) rpm, at the wheel, and like 109.4 tq. Really just crushed me. And as far as my other dream bike is concerned...the BMW K1600b or the GT. I was at the factory assembly building to see step by step of the production assembly and ohhh what a mess. You just can not work on those bikes at all. You would have to pay or take it to a dealer for any sort of work to have done. . Well that was shocking as well. I have always build and worked on my bikes all my life. What a mess. I think that I will be more of a purist/conventionable and just remain with old faithful and get the 2017 HD Road King Special with the stage 4 upgrade kit and call it a day. Hell the new Indian scott just came out with 100 BHP..wtf. At a full 1/2 ton???wet...So 2 up with full packs for a get-a-way for the weekend...you may be looking well into a 1200 pound motorcycle..humm What the hell was Yamaha thinking about..geez. Oh here is the review from rider magazine. ridermagazine.com/2017/07/21/2018-yamaha-star-venture-road-test-review/ But I do think it will def give HD Ultra Limited a run for their money. I'll make up my mind after the test/Demo ride.

      It will not be close to 100 HP. Sorry. And that will make a big difference 2-up, even doing just 70 miles per hour if you want to pass. The heat will also be a big issue, at least for me. When I pay that much for a bike, it better not offer that kind of inconvenience.
      But again, there are all kinds of riders and all kinds of bikes to suit them. It's all good.

      Hi - that's a good question - we haven't ridden the bikes back to back so it is hard to say.
      Make sure you read our Gold Wing F6B review and you can get some insight on that machine: www.ridersdomain.com/magazine/motorcycles/reviews/2017-honda-gold-wing-f6b-first-test-review/

      Good morning Brian - we were on a group destination ride with 10-12 other motorcycles. If we were riding solo, we would have likely registered triple the distance.

    • @brianzaborowski2724
      @brianzaborowski2724 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      And you are with your comment? It has nothing to do with being baddass ... The point was I've done more miles in a day than they did in 3 days ... and that was on much less of a comfortable touring machine such as they tested. If you're going to "test" a new touring bike out, at least spend some real time on it. I'm sure some better, longer reviews will come in time ... this is just a teaser if you ask me and really don't care what you think anyway. Feel better you got that out?

    Salesman? Did I miss mpg-figures? (after a 700 mile trip). The lady had hot spots of pain on other bikes? Salesman?

    • @RidersDomain
      @RidersDomain  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there! During the 700 mile ride, the computer showed us just about a 40 mpg average for a 70-80 mph pace, netting about 200 miles. In regards to the hotspots, yes, on other bikes she would often find herself cramping in her legs and hips. WIth this bike that was not an issue. Other touring style bikes may have also had similar ride qualities. This was just the observation for this particular ride. We appreciate you taking the time to watch! We hope you enjoyed it.

    A whole 750 miles in THREE days? Please come back after you take it for a real trip, not a day trip. I have to chuckle at the lady that talks about that back seat. No arm rests for a passenger. Her arms would be tired after a 600+ mile day while out on a trip. Overall I really like the looks of it but needs more testing before I consider giving up my CVO for one.

    I in no way bleed HD and my 2015 was slated to be replaced by Indian Roadmaster. Two reason it wasn't was because of poor trade value and my wife likes her Harley's. My son and wife have been brainwashed by me for years. If there is going to be a change I need to make it. My 2015 was a lemon. A piece of junk from day one. I was very upset and had a meltdown at my local HD dealer. To say the least they did a mercy trade for me. They put me in a 2017. I told them if I encountered the same issues the salesman would have one tailpipe shoved up his butt and the other up the sales manager's. Well so far so good although I'm married to it for awhile because you can't give a Harley away. Do I think it'll be my last? Possibly unless Harley comes out with a bike that is so awesome I pee myself. Up until then I'll ride this one until I can get me something new to try out. I used to have diehard Harley friends. For one reason or another we had falling outs because something happened between us that hurt their manginas. They can keep theirs. I can use my Harley T's for wash rags. I'm not a one Harley owner either. This 2017 makes #8. Best Ultra I owned was my 2007. Had only 33,000 when I traded for the POS 2015. That one had 5800 and that was hard to get in two years because it was in the shop all the time.

      I was looking at an Indian Springfield and wound up with a new 2017 Street Glide for the same reason. The Indian dealership was just insulting with their trade-in offer. I have not been disappointed with the SG thus far as it's a pretty nice touring bike. Just returned from a 2,445 mile trip to Portland from L.A.

      Gabby Hayes so far so good for me also. Bike seems to have good power. The ride for me was biggest improvement I think over my 2015. I had to make some changes. I put taller windshield, taller handlebars, and bigger floorboards for better comfort. I haven't sat on one of these yet but the Indian was a better fit than the Harley.

      126 pound feet of torque at 2700rpm is not under powered, it's actually very torquey.
      *Yeah but my (insert sportbike/sport touring bike) makes more power!*
      More hp, not torque, and not so low in the rev range. In a touring bike, low end torque is what matters.

    • @ThomasConwayteach
      @ThomasConwayteach 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Low end torque is what matters in an urban cruiser. What matters in a tourer is roll-on combined with low end torque. Something this engine can't deliver.
      See for yourself. What this will do two up, passing at over 70 won't be pretty. That is if it does not burn your leg off first in urban traffic on a hot day. That engine will run hot, real hot at that overall weight. Gas mileage is also poor.
      Why would you want this when you could go K1600B, K1600GTL, K1600GT, Honda GW, etc...? That is my question, but each to his/her own. For me, this bike won't get it done. If I wanted one of these two-bangers, I would go Harley Ultra, which is at least water cooled. But I am ordering the K1600B for my new bike for 2018.

    • @ThomasConwayteach
      @ThomasConwayteach 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No issues with the video, thanks. But the video does not speak to horsepower, roll-on, heat management, etc. (critical issues for tourers). My bet is that "year-on" reviews of this bike will not compare well with tourers with proper engines for touring.

    • @brianzaborowski2724
      @brianzaborowski2724 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Harley only cools the heads with liquid, and only around the exhaust valves. Their system is an after-thought at best using an electric water pump also. Cylinders are still air-cooled. Just like HD always has a fair share of problems/issues so does BMW ... even more than HD from what I have read so pick your poison. I rode a '13 K1600 GTL and couldn't stand the clunky/sloppy driveline lash so passed on it.
      I was also disappointed with what engine they put in the new Venture, but Yamaha does make a good bike. Peak torque of 126 ft. lbs at just under 2800 rpm is pretty impressive. See how many stock Harleys make that kind of power that low, they don't. Gold Wings are nice bikes, I had an '07 and got bored with it after a couple years.

  • @speedytoo
    @speedytoo 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Air cooled, Vtwin, belt drive, and it's a Yamaha. What a joke if I wanted an outdated motorcycle I'd buy a Harley. This bike is a loser plain and simple.
