Test rode one today. Nice bike, but that motor is a heap. Has no real powerband to speak of, power goes off a cliff at 4500rpm so you have to shift a LOT in traffic. The exhaust note might be nice to bystanders, you can't hear it on the bike. Otherwise, it is comfy, handles well for what it is, and is nicely balanced. For the price I would take a gold wing.

I can understand why it didn't sell, and it's not a quality issue. Riders buy metric for mainly two reasons, price and reliability. A mid $20k's metric not named Goldwing was always going to have trouble selling because they have now entered a price range that includes bikes like, the Goldwing and touring level BMWs. The other trend I'm seeing is the face of what's considered an optimal touring bike these days. Traditional baggers are competing with 1000cc adventure bikes with panniers like the Versys, BMW GS, Super Tenere, VStrom and Triumph Tiger series just to name a few. They have all the creature comforts of a heavy bagger but with weights coming in below 600lbs loaded. You can go 2 up just fine with most of them and have lots of spare change left in your account.
Unfortunately smaller riders like me don't have the option of those tall adventure bikes, plus they don't have comfy "older" passenger accomodations, so the heavy baggers and touring bikes with low seat heights are on my list.
Myodelta Fitness power = torque x revs (I think)...so higher revving engines put out more power. The benefit of low revving lumps like this one, is you get an easy, relaxing power delivery from just above idle speed. Very nice if you're into that sort of thing.
David Smith I get it. I have the predecessor to this bike. The Roadliner. But compared to other bikes in this price range, with smaller displacement engines, this bike is pretty weak in comparison. It won't measure up very well to the new Gold Wing or new BMW bagger.
By making it an air cooled v2. They could have gone with a liquid cooled v4 or something and this thing would have killed the competition. Now the competition will kill it. And that price tag for an air cooled v2! DISGRACE!
Sadly, it looks like the lives of Eluder and SVTC has been cut short. Numerous actual Owners of the 2018 SVTC/Eluder models have been pressing Yamaha concerning the question of why no 2019 models are being offered (out of obvious concern). Yamaha has officially responded to those inquiries with letters stating that due to poor sales, no 2019's will be made and the future beyond 19 of the models will remain questionable based on whether or not the left over inventory of 2018's sell during the 2019 riding season. They have also been told that even if the model does go back to production it will be strickly done by a new "Yamaha Pre-Order System" and no bikes will be shipped to fill dealership floor space.
@ 00.47 secs - "All new engine"? Isn't this the same engine Vee-twin used in the Raider since 2008? 2:44 -"technogical advances?" Too hard to endure all of it. "Puttons"... geeze @4:39 Heard it going around the corner. It's a dragger not a bagger.
SadaEKE agreed 1,8 should make at least 110 hp. But the bike is not for me anyway, and if it suits the guys that ride them, good on them. I was just annoyed that they stated the torque but not the power ;-)
listepikster H&D does the same because they can't produce an engine with semi decent hp figure. But Yamaha doesn't have that problem which makes it stupid for them to put an engine like this shamelessly. Seriously, imho this bike has everything a luxury tourer guy would want and the only drawback is that moronic engine. That's a deal breaker drawback.
I totally agree yamaha knows how to make a good engine. but again, the guys riding them seem to be ok with it. but then theres Indian, who seem to have cracked it, with their engines producing over 100 hp :-)
listepikster tourer people usually don't do their homeworks about the performance. They are too focused on the looks and sounds which I admit Yamaha has done hell of a job. Indian's problem is quality. Fit and finish to be exact. I have seen american cruise guys who got rid of their Indians in a year because of the rust and paint job.
Air cooled turns me off . If I'm going to ride a Japanese motorcycle it has to be liquid cooled. I'd buy a Harley if I wanted air cooled. It's probably a gr eat engine but it's just not what you expect when buying a high quality Japan bike. I ended up buying a Kawasaki Vulcan 1600 for that reason too. The Yamaha big cruisers were all air cooled. Again I'm sure they work great but I expect liquid cooling on a metric machine. Most people buy metrics because they don't want to deal with and worry about a hot engine in traffic. I don't care who makes it, Harley or Yamaha, those engines will cook if you let them sit in hot traffic for very long. I've had 2 Harley's and they ran fantastic for years , but gotta avoid sitting in traffic on a hot day
LOVE THEM AIR COOLED ENGINES, no anti freeze, water pump, thermostat, radiator & hoses NEEDED... Water cooled engines are ok though, I ride both types, but LOVE that Yamaha V twin AIR COOLED engine,
I was in awe when I first saw the Venture and of course the Eluder. I really like the front design. I even thought "if I will be able to buy a tourer one day, this may be it". However, that air cooled v2 was the worst possible thing that could happen to this bike. It's puny. It has almost no HP. It was hot. For fucks sake, why would anybody buy a tourer which will burn your legs in the summer and slow as fuck? I'm not a sportstourer guy but that engine is a disgrace on a Japanese bike. They could have gone with a v2 look-a-like v4 which would have given much better performance. Or at least they should have made it liquid cooled. I am a tourer guy although I can't afford one. And the past couple of years was like disappointment after disappointment. First Yamaha shit the bed with this engine. Then Honda shit the bed with the new Goldwing. Harley's a deathtrap. Indian's quality can only compete with Chinese. Kawasaki doesn't produce a real tourer, only sportstourer or cruiser. The only alternative looks to me is BMW's two tourers K 1600 GTL and R 1200 RT. Both are good bikes but I never liked BMW bikes looks or image. So what the fuck does a genuine tourer guy like me supposed to ride?
Great bike. But the support from Yamaha is unacceptable. My Eluder has been in the shop for months. Bike has issues with the starter failing, rear cylinder failures, and if the bike breaks down away from home, good luck finding a dealer who has techs that are familiar with this bike. If they are not, they can cause damages just from the servicing. Then you have to wait another while just for that part to come in. The navigation on the bike has only had two updates since 2018.
why not compare the eluder to other air cooled Vtwin cruisers, like the road glide and indian chieftain?? goldwing and bmw k1600 are on totally different segment, luxury touring. ALL. air cooled motors will fall short on performance to Honda and BMW 6 cylinder engines.

2:44 -"technogical advances?" Too hard to endure all of it. "Puttons"... geeze
@4:39 Heard it going around the corner. It's a dragger not a bagger.
No, the engine is completely different from the Raider's.
Some said why don't Buy a car, I would say why don't buy a gold wing?
Both moronic statements!!
Because the Goldwing isn't a Vtwin.
lots of torque, but how much power?
76 or so. So that car sized engine is like from the last century.
I didn’t hear him say how much horsepower it was just the 105 torque.
I have seen reviews that said 75 hp
Around 100hp
Am I the only one who sees Buell 1125r radiator pods on the side of that?
Only 70 HP and 105 TQ?? Same cost as Harley street glide? Why buy it?
becouse it is a yamaha, and it could do everything better than harley?
Water cooled engines are ok though, I ride both types, but LOVE that Yamaha V twin AIR COOLED engine,
the day you guys see me riding in one of these feel free to run me off the road.
ROTFLMAO, btw...looks like the Pirate Brigade came out(replied) to spread their salty shade.
Prob not gonna happen cause you can't afford one.
Count on it, simpleton...lol...
KoG GoK No need to run you off the road ,
Your brand will automatically do that for you on its own !! Lol- 😂
I feel the same about the Goldwing... 1800cc of flaccid motorcycle at least the Eluder has some character.
Looks pretty modern to me.......
Its know around my area as a nut roaster special! Time for it to be dis-continued....
SadaEKE have you actually ridden an Eluder?
Vulcan Voyager. I agree with you and that's what I'm looking at.
Damn you were touched as a kid?
You really don’t know what the f@ck you’re talking about do you? lol 😆
Those scrapes...
That was a good bike for the price.

I like my 18 Star Venture Transcontinental as much as my 18 Goldwing DCT Tour. They both have good stuff and not so good. o👍😎
why not compare the eluder to other air cooled Vtwin cruisers, like the road glide and indian chieftain??
goldwing and bmw k1600 are on totally different segment, luxury touring.
ALL. air cooled motors will fall short on performance to Honda and BMW 6 cylinder engines.
Because the ones they're comparing them to are the "bagger versions" . Check out their video "Big Damn Bagger Shootout "
OMG, another damn kid trying to tell me about riding a Man's bike. Let me tell you something, After you put a kid thru College , THEN you can ride a Cruiser like this and Critique it for the rest of us.
Give him hell gramps!
Lol 😅😅 dam straight your not a man until you raise a couple of kids
You can get a 2018 for around 15.5k...
Never buy a bike you can not pick up alone 200 miles from the nearest town 😂
So then the Harley Ultra that weighs 910 lbs. is not a big heavy bike?
Harleys have a feature: Wobble wobble wobble!
@@SadaEKE I have never experienced anny wobble on my Electra Glide. 65+thousand miles.
@@robertdominguez2466 Lucky you.
