    I bought one of these Venture TC bikes in November 2018 from Cyclecraft in Woodstock, Illinois. Chose this over the GoldWing. Even though the dealer went belly up, I don't think this bike ever will.
    It's got great handling and power, gets about 45 miles per gallon (or more) is super comfortable and fits me just fine. Tons of storage space. I had a trailer hitch put on mine at Cyclcraft made by Custom Chrome and have an air-ride Bushtec trailer for the long motorcycle camping runs out West. It's weight and air cooled V-twin don't bother me at all. Long Haul Paul has ridden his 100,000 miles, with NO valve adjustments needed.

    • @VossAdventures
      @VossAdventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Too bad about cyclecraft. They were great people to deal with. Sounds like a nice setup you have. I took my Tenere camping, but a trailer would make things pretty nice.

      @@VossAdventures What Yamaha dealer do you use now- you must live in the Woodstock area? It does suck that Cyclecraft closed. I've been buying bikes and parts from them since they opened in 1974. I never imagined they would close. :(

      I live just over the border in Wi. I've sold my Tenere since then, but I have a local guy that works on all makes and models.

      @@VossAdventures What? You've sold the ST? Why was that if I may ask? What do you ride now?

    • @VossAdventures
      @VossAdventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@charliesadv8493 I sold the Tenere for a few reasons... The biggest reason was the fact that I wanted to get braces. Yes, you read that right... I've had jacked up teeth my whole life and wanted to finally do something about it. Selling the Tenere free'd up the cash for me to be able to afford it. The other "tipping point" in the decision was the fact that I had to ride literally 3-4 hours to get anywhere that had some offroad trail riding. It was just a hassle and I felt like having a bike like that in the City was a waste.... Currently I'm motorcycle-less, BUT, my wife has a 2019 Kawasaki Z900... So I've been able to scratch the itch when I need to.

    I have owned a 2010 Stratoliner Deluxe for the past 4 years and have loved the bike. I has a great engine with lots of torque and with a couple of mods, it was even better. I had often said, if it had a 6th gear, a trunk and cruise control, I would never get ride of it. That said, I bought a 2018 Venture TC a few weeks ago with some skepticism about the weight and some of the plastic parts. I am over it! This bike is awesome. In the short time I have had it, I have ridden abut 700 mile on the back roads in my area. I can’t stay off this thing. Here are my top five things I like:
    1) Infotainment system- easy to use, lots of info
    2) 6th gear!!
    3) Tons of storage- trunk is amazingly big inside
    4) Seat is extremely comfortable( driver and passenger)
    5) Adjustable windshield
    I highly recommend this under estimated bike. You will have a great ride and you will be different than the crowd! That said, I have a Stroliner for sale if anyone is interested.

    I bought the Eluder (kid brother to the Venture). It's about 120 lighter (no Park Assist, no electric adjustable windshild, no touring trunk). The Heal Shifter is an optional dealer accessory, but if you install it, you lose the functionality of those long floorboards for alternate foot positions on a long tour. There really is no way/place to mount highway pegs. Everyone seems to complain about the heat coming from the left side of the rear jug, and it is hot, but I don't think it's really that bad unless you're stopped for long lights... And I live in Hot and Humid Mobile, AL! I did a recent review of my bike.

    • @VossAdventures

      Harley has the rear cylinder cancel system which helps cool the engine, plus you can have a fan installed which pulls the heat away from the rider.The M8 also idles at a lower rpm which reduces engine heat.

    As I understand it the heat issue under the seat isn't so much the engine, it's that the oil tank is integrated into the frame under the left side of the seat. Personally, I have to say that I think it's an absolute shame that Yamaha abandoned the Royal Star in favor of the Star Venture. If the marketing/styling department figured people wanted a classic air cooled V-twin, they should have given them one. The Star Venture is not classic in any sense and the abysmal sales figures bear that out. The Royal Star was as close as I've seen to a perfect combination of classic styling with liquid cooled peace of mind. If they wanted to go with a V-twin all they had to do was take either the Road Star or V-star and put a classic batwing touring package on it. The Star Venture is a styling nightmare regardless of how great it rides. I'm sorry, but... it's just... ugly. Bring back the Royal Star Venture and a legion of riders will upgrade. As for your review... top notch! An honest rider with honest opinions. It was refreshing. Well done!

      I rode a second gen Royal Star Venture for ten years and own this bike now. They are vastly different bikes. Both are great bikes. This bike is a vast improvement over the previous generation. No regrets. Don’t know if I would have bought it for $30k out the door new but I got it for just under $20k used out the door with 1,500 miles on the odometer. It’s the best touring bike I’ve owned in the last 45 years. Too bad it didn’t sell.

    One thing bad about this bike is that it uses the same engine as the Raider, which there is nothing wrong with that. However the Raider has problems as it gets older, the fuel pump for one. It is very expensive to replace. What happens is that is forms a crack in the housing and it loses fuel pressure. Makes it hard to start and starts to backfire some, not to mention it loses power. Yamaha says they aren't aware of the problem, BS, they say it isn't a safety issue so they aren't going to put a better fuel pump in the bike. You will pay the price for the lowest bidder on making a cheap fuel pump. Look up fuel pump repair for Raider on TH-cam. Look for yourself. I am sure they use the same fuel pump , just a guess, but they do like selling parts and labor.

    • @tripacer8259
      @tripacer8259 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I saw a Yamaha rep in a review (here on TH-cam) tell everyone "it's a completely different engine than the Raider", I have no idea if it's true or not. Someone asked him why they didn't use a V-Max engine and he was super insulted? I think he sold it to himself and just couldn't imagine one change.

    The clunk you feel has nothing to do with the manufacture but more to do with the fact you are on a big V-twin. Big twin engines (especially v-twins) throw down a tremendous amount of torque and that affects the way the transmission shifts (especially into first gear) Both my Ducati Hypermotard 1100 S and KTM Superduke GT are very clunky in the first two gears. The way the manufacturer cuts the gears (strait or helical) can also affect the way the transmission feels but the first will almost always still clunk. Twins (with larger pistons) put out massive power pulses (which is great for traction and stump pulling torque) while an inline (4 or 6) of the same displacement (with smaller pistons) has smaller power pulse and put less stress on the transmission which translates to slicker shifting into first and second.

    if you could see in your mind how a transmission operates, a constant mesh sequential transmission is a violent environment. It is a modern miracle that they work at all. That clunk is one gear sliding out of engagement, and another gear sliding into engagement.. Watch some videos and see what’s going on in there. The clunking is a lot less noticeable if you are familiar with exactly how to slightly let off the gas, as you are pulling the clutch in and tapping the shift lever..
    I do not care at all for any of the electronics on the motorcycle. I’ve had three ventures, a gold wing, a BMW K 1200 LT. The motor for this bike came from the Yamaha Star Stratoliner/Raider so Yamaha put a great motor in their touring machine. Now with that said, Yamaha already recouped their cost for R&D in the motor so the cost should have been in the high teens or very low 20's for a price. This bike is not going to sell well until the price goes to $19,000 or lower. Yamaha is just trying to make this bike a "premium" bike so they raised the price to depict that route.
