Test rode this bike as well as all the harleys and Indians at Daytona bike week 2019 . This bike by far was the best handling of all the big bikes!!!!!
I have to say this is one of the best reviews I’ve seen on the Venture. I watched it a while back before I got my Venture and then came back for a second viewing. I agree with nearly every observation you’ve made about the bike. This is really an honest and accurate assessment of the bike for any of the viewers out there considering this bike. It really is an incredible motorcycle and your evaluation is spot on. Good job 👍
I bought one a few weeks ago. I absolutely love this machine! She is smooth and has a very nice power range. She is also very responsive as he points out in the video. It is as fine a machine as I have ever ridden.
@@rubo1964 It was the seating position of the Wing for me. There isn't a more comfortable seating position than that of a V-twin cruiser style bike IMHO. I'd rather have a feet-forward position than my feet directly beneath me. But then again, opinions vary.
Adam, I must say that you are a great reviewer. I watched most of your videos over a over and I have to say that you are amazing at covering all aspects of the bikes. I really do appreciate all the work you do and wish you the best of luck going forward. Thank you so much and I look forward to seeing even more videos!
This is the way reviews should be done. Entertaining to watch fantastic camera angles and a ton of information but with informality. Great Review. Bravo
This is a GREAT review! Excellent observations! I have watched just about all of the reviews on the Star Venture, and this one is very thorough. ONLY ONE PROBLEM with all of these touring bike reviews......NO ONE....REVIEWS THE SOUND SYSTEM!!! On long rides, the "radio" is a big deal. No one ever reviews any sound system on any make bike. Maybe something to consider. But other than that.....a terrific review!
Yeah I gotta agree wit'cha...it's like everyone is scared to briefly play the music & give an idea of how loud the music is... An I knew that it was him doing the video as soon as I heard him smack his mouth & when he said give it the beans as he says on every video when he's talking about feeding it gas or giving it speed...😁😄
good review of the new Venture. I had one of the gen 2 Royal Star Ventures and was surprised when Yamaha chose an air cooled engine for the new Venture. But everyone that I know that has one, loves it.
I've ridden both this bike and the 2018 Goldwing, if your 5"10" and 185 and under the gold wing is probably better for you. If you're a bigger guy this one is more comfortable, over all really was surprised after so many negative comments. Got used to short shifting, lacked a little power over my Raider and the heat was noticeable but not a deal breaker. With the comfort and all the bells and whistles included I have to have one because I like longer 300 plus mile rides over a weekend and longer. Not to mention I don't think there's a bike out there that beats this one for passenger comfort! Will be buying one soon!
All the negative heat comments I've heard is ridiculous, every bike I've owned even liquid cooled ones when it was hot they were hot i have no problem with it ,this is one awesome bike its superb! Top of the line I would put it up against Harley, Honda and Indian any day!
I had the old grandfather 1300 Yamaha venture a 1988 model I loved it and this is what I would have brought if I was still riding, interesting the old top trunk on the Yamaha could hold our two helmets still a nice machine
The heat coming off the engine isn't really a problem if you do what I found works: I start my cruise at 10:00 a.m. and duct tape a raw chicken to the inside of each of my upper thighs. By noon, I'm re-taping them to evenly cook the other sides. By 4:00 p.m., I stop and apply BBQ sauce to both birds. By 6:00, I pull off the road somewhere to eat dinner. Pack potato salad, too!
Yamaha makes a full line of classical instruments. That should tell you enough about why this mechanical, air cooled, high displacement V-Twin is the best of the breed. It is just another one of those instruments. I really love the conservative layout and overall design of this bike. They do a damn good job at america'ing, even better than America in this case!
First off I'd like to say this is a great video bro the audio was very clear you were very informative about this bike I've looked at this bike before but now I am really looking at it and I have scheduled a test ride in my local area to ride it you went over the bike really well and I like the fact that you also went over some of the gear because that's very important to I appreciate the whole experience of this video was worth watching every minute
Just a heads up but there’s a recall on my 2018 for the brake switch and the starter, neither of which effected my bike, but took it in anyway for the replacement parts. You can run your VIN on their website to see if your bike is effected. My guess is the dealer you bought it from may have already taken care of it before they let you drive off, but you probably should check to see. It really is a fantastic bike isn’t it. Ride safe.
Just bought a 2018 transcontinental. Although I like the bike with all the new techs, I think the older venture, my 2006, rides so much better. I don’t want to say anything negative about my new bike. It’s just that 2nd gen venture has been an outstanding machine in every aspect.
I rode a 2005 RSV for ten years and it was a very comfortable bike, especially for taller guys, very roomy. I don't know about it riding better than the Transcontinental though. The RSV had a great suspension, but it was a tall bike and extremely top-heavy. And it didn't have ABS which made panic stops a real adventure. But it was a very good bike.
I was set on the GoldWing after riding one that I rented in San Diego, CA to Cabo San Lucas in Mexico BUT after seeing one on the road and watching this review I I’m sold on this one 🏍🔥
I have removed the heel shifter on all my previous touring bikes. Just don't like them. Maybe a holdover from my early days with Harleys. But now I'm getting old, I'm looking for comfort. Will definately check this out closely. Nice review on this.
Ive never understood the necessity of a heel shifter. Thats always the first thing I scrap on any bike I own. All it does for me is limit how much room I have to move my feet around on the boards. To each their own though.
Awesome brother , nice video and yes you are right yamaha is the best brand in the world in everything incluiding quality , and air cooled engines are superior . Yamaha forever 🤗
What a great follow up piece to the three-part series! Great job, Adam. Sorry I am late to the party. Lots of thoughts on this bike and how it stacks up against the competition. Of course the new Wing has been revealed, and I hear a lot of people say that the Wing will steal this bike's thunder. Well, maybe, but I am not quite ready to make that claim just yet. No doubt the new Wing is a great looking bike and there is a lot to like from an engineering standpoint. The glass cockpit is a marvel, and as a Vision rider I would love to feel what the suspension feels like. But did they downsize it too much? If you ask hard core Wing riders, the answer is a resounding YES! I have met many a wing rider on the road, and when the subject comes up, as it usually does, the results are mixed. Some love the new model, but many are reserved in their assessment and many will not trade theirs in for the new one. That may change as time goes on, but I am finding the gut reaction interesting. My own inclination is to keep my Vision! I know it's a Dinosaur by comparison to these 2 new, fine machines, but for me I'm just not ready to say goodbye this baby yet. This machine has all the power, torque, and agility I could ever want in a touring bike. There is nothing out there that will be more comfortable, and though these new bikes take refinement to a whole new level (something that the Vision fell a bit short on quite frankly), she still delivers the goods! And that Vision style - again, there is nothing quite like it. If / when the day comes to replace her, This Venture will get serious consideration. I love the look and that sweet V-twin. And I love how you keep saying the word "smooth" when you talk about it. It will be interesting to see where this bike is in 2 years. Thanks again for the great follow-on review.
Definitely need a heel toe , should have adjusted the bars up a little it greatly improves posture and comfort.... I have 4500 miles on mine in 3 months once raised the bars drastically changed everything
Would I buy it? Probably not, at least not for another 15-20 years and I'd have to be planning on a lot of 1000+ mile trips that freeway riding was a big portion of it. I think my 2015 FJR1300 is going to serve to be more what I want, a more well rounded bike that I can gun when I want and it takes off, has sharp handling, and still has lots of storage and handles lots of freeway riding well. I'd buy this in a heartbeat over anything comparable from other manufacturers: Goldwing, Street Glide, etc. This thing does offer a ton, looks super refine, and exceptionally well designed and engineered and packed with features. I'd definitely consider renting one if I were going to do a super long 2000+ mile trip. That being said, it may be overkill for me, at least time I'm older. I did 1500 miles in 5 days on a Honda 919, the FJR1300 is going to be a nice middle ground for me for a while.
I really like the looks of the Venture. I rode them twice trying to get used to the low rpm cut off. The bike is just too underpowered for me and the engine heat is atrocious even in cool weather. The Venture drags the ground even in very conservative lean angles. I would buy the Kaw for less money.
The Star Venture is one smooth ride - we'll be riding the 2018 Gold Wing in a couple weeks so we'll see if Honda can out-do them. Make sure to watch for our multi-part video series.
The newer Goldwings are joke for touring. Their storage is so limited. My FJR1300 easily has more storage adding a top box. Hell, my 919 with soft bags and a tail bag is probably about equal or possibly even more usable space than the poorly design Goldwing storage. They really botched that bike up with the design and how gimped the storage is for a touring bike.
I've been a Goldwing rider from 1976 and in 2016 had a flesh eating bacteria get into my right knee. After 7 surgeries the doctors saved the leg and my life, BUT, I cant bend my knee enough to fit behind the Goldwing Engine anymore even with floor boards. I Rigged up a brake that would reach a foot peg on the right crash bar but keeping the leg straight all the time is uncomfortable too. Went to a Indian Dealer to see if sitting on a FLOOR BOARD V-Twin would be comfortable. PERFECT! Just Perfect! But I am not sold yet on any V-TWIN. I LIKE INDIANS Nostalgic look but I understand the Heat is a BIG PROBLEM with their Tourers and all the 111s. I like touring and want the extra luggage capacity. Switching to a V-Twin will be a major step as I have been sold on the Goldwings reliability and Love the Shaft Drive. But also over the years they changed the body style so much that it no longer looks like a motorcycle to me, but something a guy wearing a suit and tie would ride going into town to work! I have a 1999 Valkyrie Interstate now Only for the reason it looks like a motorcycle. Just can't get myself to buy a new Goldwing simply because of their LOOKS! Just want a real nice Fully Dressed Bike that is dependable as hell and at least Looks like a motorcycle. Harleys are out for me cause I hate their ride. And I don't trust their so-called dependability. Know too many Harley riders that STILL have problems even with Today's High PRICE tourers! I truly believe Harleys are MADE TO BREAK. This is a good review and I am going to have to try one of these out. The Goldwing has excellent center of gravity and balance. If this bike can offer Dependability, Good Balance and Handling and a good Long Haul Comfort, especially 2 Up, I may be sold. I know there is a BIG difference between a six cylinder water cooled engine and a V-Twin Air Cooled one. But given my new life circumstances and the advances made with the V engines this bike might just be what I have been looking for and NEED! I won't ride a trike either. I gotta have the sway and play of two wheels! Thanks for the review!
Not really sure. They said it comes from the soil. The ONLY thing I had been doing related to any soil contact was watering my yard with a garden hose. I was waiting for shoulder surgery and was using my leg to pull on the hose so I wouldnt tear the already torn tendon in my shoulder anymore. I was wearing shorts and would pull on the 100ft hose using my right leg and right foot. When I got out of the hospital (2 months) I checked the hose and it felt like sandpaper. Only guessing though that it may had this MUCOR FUNGUS on it and scrapped into my knee. First sign was a small red spot about size of a quarter with knee swelling up and hitting like hell. Went next day to Dr. and he said it was a staff infection a d gave me 12 antibiotic pills. By next day skin was turning necrotic and super red infection. Went to hospital. The said same thing, it was a staff infection, gave me 1 hour of intravenous IV antibiotic 52 antibiotic pills, cut into redfish black necrotic skin, stuffed a drain strip guaze in cut and sent me home! THIRD day reddness got even bigger and spreader wider. Went back to hospital and they decided to admit me. They called in a disease expert who discovered what it really was - MUCOR FUNGAL INFECTION. The had to debride about a 8 inch diameter area near my knee cap that went about a half inch deep. Had to have skin grafts. This happened Oct 3, 2016. 1 year now. Even with rehab knee only bends about 23°… Plus I found out through MRI in Sept 2017 that my ACL-PCL tendons were Completely torn. Sweet Huh. But even through all this I still managed to be able to get on my Valkyrie and ride it. BUT like I mentioned I just can't get my knee to bend enough to get it on the right floor board behind the engine. The bike has been my rehab and FRESH AIR to keep me positive. This thing really did a number on my whole life. In just a couple of days my life changed forever in a way I could never have guessed would happen. It is incredible what happened! I just thank God Everyday I did not Die and also did not lose my leg. Stats say 30% who get through skin die. You can also inhale Mucor Fungus Spores and if that happens stats give you a 70% chance of dying. MUCOR FUNGUS grows in the soil mainly on dead WET vegetation, wood chips, decaying vegetables and even cardboard. Thing is I bought some top soil that had some wood chips in it. Raked them into a pile right where I rolled up the hose. So when I watered the yard I was pulling the hose across these wet wood chips. Anyway, its still guessing but it was all I could figure out might have happened. If you ever get an infection that starts out small, hurts like hell, swells quickly, and redness spreads quickly don't assume its only a staff infection. Make the Dr. Take a Culture Sample. Which NONE of mine did till they realised something wasn't right. ALMOST TOO LATE! Very few doctors actually see these infections but they are getting more common! Funny after it was all over I found that in the Illuminati Card Game, it has a card on Flesh Eating disease attacking someone! Maybe I pissed off a certain political party right before the election last year!! Well later, hope you learned something here. Happy Riding!
Not really sure about that. I suppose it is a world wide Fungus. I live near the ocean in Northwest Florida and it is rare here. Unlike the water born flesh eating bacteria that is more common in warm stale putrid water. This is a fungal flesh eating "fungus". (So they tell me) that grows mainly in the soil and on things as mentioned already. I had a bout with MRSA too in 2008 that I got in a Veterans Hospital. Had a few months then where that came and went. Have not had a single episode of that since 2008, though, thank God. Apparently here in the USA they have basically figures out how to kill that one. One thing they discovered with MRSA is that each person may require a Specific Antibiotic to kill it. They now do culture samples on MRSA send it off to a lab and the lab prescribes a Specific Antibiotic For THAT PERSON. Apparently with MRSA they discovered what works for one person may not work for another. So now antibiotics for MRSA require individual tailoring. Hope all this helps anyone who reads this. A little off the subject of bikes but well worth knowing.
Oh one other thing, I have learned through nurses at the hospital (when I was there) that sometimes people who have been in car accidents and end up in the dirt with open cuts and wounds have gotten Mucor flesh eating infections. My advice is if you get a scrape, cut etc., while outside doing anything, wash the area Right Away if possible. One nurse told me she carries two small bottles with her anytime she is outdoor adventuring. One is filled with everyday rubbing alcohol and the other everyday bleach. She says if she or her kids get cut or scraped outdoors she washes the wound with bleach and then the alcholo. She said the combination of the two will Kill Any flesh eating bacteria or fungus on contact. She recommended I fix myself up with a couple of small bottles and keep them handy.
I Love the bike and buy in a second, But, in heavy traffic I can see this burning the heck out of my leg. It would be a no brainer if this was a liquid cooled engine. I drove my brother 2018 Venture for about 5 miles and I love media system, I love the bluetooth, and I'm simply crazy about rhe desh. The ride was as good or better than my 2017 Honda Goldwing level 3. If they change the engine to liquid cooled or at the very least raise the horsepower about 40hp higher I'm in.
When you are reviewing a 960lb motorcycle, you might review the handling at slow speed, like busy gas stations, parking lots, gravel driveways, u-turns. That is the information we need. Instead we get 26 minutes of it’s great on the highway.
This has park assist. And some people like to shift, and have that american-cruiser feel. This is somewhere between the goldwing and a harley Ultra limited
lean angle on left hand turns on my demo ride was crap! The bike was like riding a wood heater on the left side , hot does not describe it. It did feel lighter than its weight. It does have great power.
Every engine has to do that but i have yamahas and i never done that and i know i am a mechanic yamahas are the top bikes ever ... you have too is to ride hehehehehe
i’m on my third venture since 1986. I had a Gold wing GL 1800, I went back to a venture. I am interested in this newest venture. My local Yamaha dealer told me that the only time I would be able to see one is if I put a deposit on it, then they would order it. It was in 2018. Today it is April 2022. I still have not seen one in person.. so the only place I can even hear about the mess here on the Internet. And one little thing I would like to hear from someone that will tell me the truth. is there a lot of heat that comes off the exhaust pipe onto your leg, I think it’s on the left side.? there is one thing I can’t tolerate from a motorcycle is heat pouring on to me because I wear all the gear all the time. I did not buy a Yamaha FJR, a Kawasaki concourse 1400, and especially the Honda ST 1300, because those things are rolling easy bake oven‘s.. especially the Honda ST 1300. Wonderful machines I hear, I see them with lots and lots of miles on them. I hear nothing bad about anything mechanical on those machines. The one I took one for a test ride on an 80° day. I told the owner that I would not be back for at least an hour. I did not even make it 10 minutes before I was engulfed in heat coming off of that engine that felt as hot as a hairdryer on high speed. I loved that machine. I was brokenhearted when I could not buy that because of that heat.. I mean I showed up with all the cash to buy it at full price, but I returned after just a short 20 minute ride, 10 minutes out, I turned around and went back. My first question to the owner was, how can you ride this thing , it is so hot. His reply was, that’s why it’s for sale.. so: can anybody comment on if there is a lot of heat on to the rider from this Fabulous machine?
Water cooled or not when you've cocooned yourself in protective gear you're going to overheat even if the bikes water cooled especially in a hot environment. That being said I thought I was a big mistake Yamaha going with an air-cooled V-Twin.
Hi Richard - it was a warm summer day during our test. It started off in the high 60s (Fahrenheit) and got into the high-90s during the hottest part of the day.
That's because its a Victory - Polaris doesn't make the most well-engineered powersports equipment. It is better at production and scale rather than capable engineering solutions. P.S. I'm not hating, just telling it like it is.
They gave it a 5 year warranty to add value and get the vehicle on the road. Has nothing to do with Yamaha reliability. But, I agree, you'll probably never need it.
Yes, it is. In this case, even after the 5 year early adopter warranty is over, tomorrow's purchasers will still be able to get a Y.E.S. warranty if they want the same peace of mind.
You can't compare the engineers at Yamaha to the engineers and Harley. When Ford needs some of its motors tuned for power they don't go to Harley Davidson they're gone to Yamaha
I rode the new Yamaha's and loved them. The things that stopped me from buying one was the paint, the plastics, and heat from the left side on my thigh.
The bike may be too much electronics that are not ready for production. I bought the bike 2 months ago and they are still trying to fix the electronics. It does not seem that Yamaha knows what to do to fix the bike. GPS, Comm systems and dash electronics are not working since the day it was purchased. Yamaha engineer is going to try to help dealer with fix and a few days.
Love the look of this. I like everything 2 wheels like the Kawasaki Vulcan vaquero too. Great bike. Should of bought it instead of my electraglide. Lol
I wouldn't compare it to a wing. Id compare it to a harley ultra. V twin tourer, not a euro transcontinental tourer. And honestly, given that comparison, id probably opt for the venture vs the HD
@@HooDRidEWhiteY Up to me, Goldwing was the best from 2012 too 2017, then Honda copied the ST and made a wing that didn't look like a wing. In 2019, Yamaha took out the Venture that really looked nice.
Bike Manufacturers are really bringing on the "electronic infotanement" package. Not really interested in that, I have a radio and cell phone. That`s all I need. I ride to get away from distractions. Nice Video
I know you guys supposed to come out with a Yamaha eluder review this January. When exactly are you guys going to post the video review of the new eluder? I just can't wait any longer lol!
I ride all HD, Indian bikes and yamaha in summer Awesome bike but biggest mistake is air cooled motor it's gets hot I mean HD and Indians hot But yamaga it's burns. coolest and coldest air cooled is BMW R18 b or TC waaayyy cooler then Yamaha
Very nice review. Had a chance to demo one a few weeks back. My only real negative was the extremely low redline. It does have great torque but I've never ridden any V-Twin, Harley or otherwise that hit the rev limiter so low. IMHO another 500 to 700 rpm of usable power would have made it a killer engine.
True I guess but if you want a V Twin cruiser/tourer then a Gold Wing is not what you are looking for. If you are convinced that a Harley Davidson is not either this sounds mighty good. At least I am finding nothing but happy owners experiencing satisfying usage with good handling, reliable service and for me a lot of the appeal is the air cooled power unit.
Goldwing is beauty and in the long run it doesnt have the quality durability of this one , i am so sorry to tell you the truth honda bikes are good but yamaha is the number one brother .
@@josecarvlho356 Well opinions vary. Lets be mindful of one thing, the Japanese bikes and cars tend to be more reliable and dependable in nature. The Goldwing has the reputation of being a reliable and quality bike. You have Honda Goldwing's on the road that have well over 100,000 - 250,000 miles on them and they are still going strong. Regarding the Yamaha Venture, it looks like a very sturdy and well designed bike but it is air cooled whereas the Honda Goldwing is liquid cooled. Liquid cooled engines tend to sustain a lot longer than air cooled. Yamaha bikes tend to have a good reputation (versus another well known motorcycle company) and I would never take away from that but in the long run I must say that the Honda Goldwing has a bit better reputation than that of the Yamaha Venture. Both bikes are and represent reliability and quality but the Honda Goldwing would come out on top!!! I like both bikes personally.
@@jamesbottger5894 That shows quality engineering that goes into this bike. Some of the other metric bikes are pretty reliable and have longevity to them but I must say the Honda Goldwing does come out on top.
Heel shifter lol! I take off and toss them in the scrap metal pile. Never liked them. But I like the star venture it rides so nice but the exhaust is a bit lame so I'm working on a set of true duals and tab performance zombies.
When will TH-cam Presenters begin writing scripts after Riding and "Filming" then read the typed-up Script as they show the Video? [Please see some of Matt Laidlaw's videos. Note: Matt Laidlaw's insistence over the years (along with hundreds of other YT Presenters) upon mounting his action cam on his Helmet rather than his jacket (near his collarbone) has me feeling seasick].
That lazy engine ruins it to me. Also the near half tone weight, nope. No reverse gear, nope. I have an VTX1800 ,800lb bike now and it stays in the garage, I ride a 650 burgmann more often because its much lighter and can carry a larger load. The new Goldwing looks great to me. Smaller, lighter, more powerful.
I'd find the comfort of that Vtwin sound more interesting over a long ownership period than a flat-6. I've ridden the Raider which carries the donor engine for this Venture. In that guise the less weight and more raw motorcycle experience, that engine was a jewel. SOOOO smooth! Tons of torque and awesome sound. I've ridden the M109R from Suzuki as well, and although that bike makes more HP in the upper rpm, it's not as torquey on the bottom. I'm sure the Venture could use an exhaust and reflash. The Raider picks up a solid hunk of power doing so. www.ivansperformanceproducts.com/raider%20stk%20vs%20final2torque.gif
A bike that died to soon. Shame they don’t make them anymore. With more time these would have sold like crazy considering how higg the demand for them is.
Harley Davidson does not have a water cooled engine except for the V Rod which is no longer in production. They do have oil coolers that is circulated to the heads in the largest of HD Touring bikes.
Don’t need all that hp. Has enough torque where exactly needed. Motorcycle engineering is about balance. Do you really want to ride a bike that weighs 900 plus pounds with long wheelbase that has massive hp? It will be out of control engineering catastrophe.
Why everyone care bout horse power your not racing calm down it's all good enough for touring dude and you don't wanna do 90 all day your just shitting on your mpg that way, it works just fine for touring lol
Test rode this bike as well as all the harleys and Indians at Daytona bike week 2019 . This bike by far was the best handling of all the big bikes!!!!!
Que pasa que a Chile no llega esta moto y la propaganda puede ser en castellano
Guys I'll say it again. The beauty of this bike is unmatched. This is the most gorgeous thing I've seen.

Excellent review! What's the top speed? How is passing from 80 mph on? Wyoming Interstate speed limits are 80mph & lots of big rigs to pass.
Have always enjoyed your great reviews over the years Adam.just subscribed to this channel.great to have you back
This is such a good review! So informative and descriptive, you're killing it Adam!
rckev224 love Adam's reviews. Knowledgeable, thorough, and without pretension.
Glad you are enjoying the vids. Thanks for watching.
Oh you are so kind - I think I might be blushing... :p
Bought it love it 2022 best bike I've ever owned handles like a dream , drove to PEI and back almost 5000.kms
Ride safe.
Thanks for a great informative video! I think you have made my decision easy
Hey thanks for a informative review on the new Venture. Enjoyed the scenery as well.
Best review of the Yamaha yet... i’m going to go look at one tomorrow!
You are running the engine faster than you need to. It truly is a putt putt when it comes to RPM's.
Saw ID55 on your GPS and then realized you guys rode through Cascade when I noticed the Tackle Toms sign haha
Nice catch - well done! Idaho is a beautiful state-- especially during the time we visited.
I was set on the GoldWing after riding one that I rented in San Diego, CA to Cabo San Lucas in Mexico BUT after seeing one on the road and watching this review I I’m sold on this one 🏍🔥
The first thing to go on my Stratoliner was the heel shifter.
Yes Richard, we agree. A heel shifter is a must-have add-on for the Star Venture. Which one did you fit on your bike?
Yeah, a heel shifter is a must - was the first thing I thought of on Mile 1 of our ride.
@@chrismartin500 keeps the top of your boots from getting scuffed. I use the shifter both ways. Depends on my choice of footwear
Good in-depth review Bruh, what is you opinion now that you've ridden the Goldwing, and where does the BMW K1600B fits into this discussion?
I really like the looks of the Venture. I rode them twice trying to get used to the low rpm cut off. The bike is just too underpowered for me and the engine heat is atrocious even in cool weather. The Venture drags the ground even in very conservative lean angles. I would buy the Kaw for less money.
....have to agree, a really well executed video.
Smoother than the Goldwing? Kidding right?
The Star Venture is one smooth ride - we'll be riding the 2018 Gold Wing in a couple weeks so we'll see if Honda can out-do them. Make sure to watch for our multi-part video series.
Looking forward to your review!
Great Video!
Keeping it air cooled also kept the weight down and kept it a little more svelte than it otherwise would have needed to be on the front end.
I'll take this Yamaha to go from Alaska to Chile...
Not going to buy this bike, but the review is stellar! Nice coverage!
Thanks Maximus!
gourgeous scenery. where r u riding?
It is comparable with the Goldwing?? After a test ride...?
No.
It is a completely different motorcycle - it is more of a conventional V-Twin/cruiser type of motorcycle.
You too brother!
Glad you enjoyed it - sorry about your knee - my knee is not so good either - thanks for taking the time to share your story it was a good read.
Are you riding in Montana?
I Love the bike and buy in a second, But, in heavy traffic I can see this burning the heck out of my leg. It would be a no brainer if this was a liquid cooled engine. I drove my brother 2018 Venture for about 5 miles and I love media system, I love the bluetooth, and I'm simply crazy about rhe desh. The ride was as good or better than my 2017 Honda Goldwing level 3. If they change the engine to liquid cooled or at the very least raise the horsepower about 40hp higher I'm in.
Yamaha makes a quality bike.
I love Yamaha’s but about the heat on your legs and I see the gas tank it’s little bigger tell me more on that thanks
Great review.
Moto guzzi 1400 california touring..also air cooled Vtwin
Hows the heat from the engine on city slow crawling traffic?
When you are reviewing a 960lb motorcycle, you might review the handling at slow speed, like busy gas stations, parking lots, gravel driveways, u-turns. That is the information we need. Instead we get 26 minutes of it’s great on the highway.
Great bike no doubt. But for that kind of money I'll take reverse, DCT auto trans, 6 cylinders, WATER COOLED and drive shaft. The Wing is the KING !!
The yamaha has reverse..
This has park assist. And some people like to shift, and have that american-cruiser feel. This is somewhere between the goldwing and a harley Ultra limited
Is there an aftermarket trailer hitch for this bike?
Thank u so much for all di good infos papi
Why can I not find the lean angle ? My electra glide has 32 degrees of lean. Somebody please tell me what the yamaha had.
So what about the weight? Fully packed bags, passenger and a full tank of gas
lean angle on left hand turns on my demo ride was crap! The bike was like riding a wood heater on the left side , hot does not describe it. It did feel lighter than its weight. It does have great power.
Does this bike need to adjust the valves every so miles???
Every engine has to do that but i have yamahas and i never done that and i know i am a mechanic yamahas are the top bikes ever ... you have too is to ride hehehehehe
How can an engine this size be air cooled? Won't it overheat if you're stuck in traffic in 95 degree weather?
It runs way cooler than my Goldwing, I don't know why but it is.
@@tripacer8259 Wow really ?? I would've thought just the opposite but u glad to hear u say different
620,000 mile engine TBO, did i hear that correctly, or was it a facetious statement? Non-rider here, trying to learn.
Good for the US-market!
Have fun, daddies, i prefer IOMTT.
i’m on my third venture since 1986.
One thing the commentator said that is false, Preload does NOT raise the rear end. It changes the amount of force required to compress the spring
6 years later, Harley has wind deflectors
Super awesome video
looks like a better Harley ; )
What is the outside air temperature.
Hi Richard - it was a warm summer day during our test. It started off in the high 60s (Fahrenheit) and got into the high-90s during the hottest part of the day.
no mention of heat coming off that engine!
Cause there ain't any heat coming off the engine when traveling at highway speeds. That's whole point of air-cooling.
My Victory CCT is air oil cooled. There is lots of heat coming off a V-twin at highways speeds in not summer months.
Wow, Adam!! How in the world did the Yamaha engineers pull off keeping the engine from producing any heat at highway speeds? Cold fusion?
Right On John :)
That's because its a Victory - Polaris doesn't make the most well-engineered powersports equipment. It is better at production and scale rather than capable engineering solutions. P.S. I'm not hating, just telling it like it is.
I only wish they sold these in Australia
They gave it a 5 year warranty to add value and get the vehicle on the road. Has nothing to do with Yamaha reliability. But, I agree, you'll probably never need it.
It's always nice when manufacturers are willing to stand behind their product.
Yes, it is. In this case, even after the 5 year early adopter warranty is over, tomorrow's purchasers will still be able to get a Y.E.S. warranty if they want the same peace of mind.
I've got got an 05 Road Star with 72k Miles on it. Still chugging smoothly with zero issues. Almost no need for a warranty
@@MrCabledawg45 07 Royal Star tour deluxe 68k and still running like a top.
Nice job god bless
I have reservations…it’s air cooled and the transmission is but a dated belt.
Lol
True video 💗
Nice bike and nice sound, but it's not a Wing. Great review.
Hi Pascal - thanks for the note and for watching.
I wouldn't compare it to a wing. Id compare it to a harley ultra. V twin tourer, not a euro transcontinental tourer. And honestly, given that comparison, id probably opt for the venture vs the HD
@@danray104 I agree, given the choice of any Harley or Goldwing or Venture, Venture would be my first choice, as long as they are 2019 and younger.
@@pascalmonier4642 why did you mention the year like that? Did they quit making it?
@@HooDRidEWhiteY Up to me, Goldwing was the best from 2012 too 2017, then Honda copied the ST and made a wing that didn't look like a wing. In 2019, Yamaha took out the Venture that really looked nice.
If only the 2018 guys can finally get a GPS update.
Bike Manufacturers are really bringing on the "electronic infotanement" package. Not really interested in that, I have a radio and cell phone. That`s all I need. I ride to get away from distractions. Nice Video

That gear looks fanominal.
Wait what, HD's are water cooled?!
v rod
@@paulbunyun-xi9by Oh right
Yes some hd are water cooled and that sucks . The 500 the 750 and they have more water cooled and they suck.
Twin cooling on touring models since 2014. The M8 engines are liquid cooled on most if not all applications
Don't know why the venture line is a sleeper look
I ride all HD, Indian bikes and yamaha in summer
Awesome bike but biggest mistake is air cooled motor it's gets hot I mean HD and Indians hot But yamaga it's burns. coolest and coldest air cooled is BMW R18 b or TC waaayyy cooler then Yamaha

Very nice review. Had a chance to demo one a few weeks back. My only real negative was the extremely low redline. It does have great torque but I've never ridden any V-Twin, Harley or otherwise that hit the rev limiter so low. IMHO another 500 to 700 rpm of usable power would have made it a killer engine.
why would you want the Rev limiter higher on a Monster twin Tourer like this bike? If your reving past 4k than your totally riding the bike wrong.
Yeah I thought that too. More rpms and a more playful top end would be good IMOP.
Nice efforts, however the Goldwing is still number 1.
@@Leatherbro There are more old Goldwings on the road than any other bike. That tells me all I need to know about reliability...
I was told this has a reverse on it, it's a separate electric motor.
I thought they were 119"
I'd find the comfort of that Vtwin sound more interesting over a long ownership period than a flat-6.

Will be interesting to find out how quick Ivan can get his hands on a Venture and/or Eluder to get his flash available for it!
Very true. I'm not sure, but the cams may be ground differently for the Venture.
Update: i believe ivan has one now
A bike that died to soon. Shame they don’t make them anymore. With more time these would have sold like crazy considering how higg the demand for them is.
Good 👍🏼🌷🌹
Harley Davidson does not have a water cooled engine except for the V Rod which is no longer in production. They do have oil coolers that is circulated to the heads in the largest of HD Touring bikes.
better check that again the ultra's have water cooled heads with the radiators in the lowers.
And the small models of hd are water cooled the 500 cm3 and the 750 cm3 , water cooling sucks , old school air cooled rock 🤗
wow~
76 or smth bhp? no. thanks. I'd take that bike Yamaha but make something more powerful equal the price you ask and come next time.
