I have a 2018 High Country with 23,000 and it had a shake that started a few weeks ago and was getting worse. Some days it wouldn't do it and others it would do it all the time. On cruise control at different speeds is when it started shaking. I took it to a dealer and they referenced Service Bulletin 18-NA-355 and said it was my torque converter and the fix was to drain, flush and fill the transmission with an updated fluid. After leaving the dealership I drove 50+ miles and not only did it not shake once but the whole ride felt better. Before the shake and at freeway speed if I looked at the empty passenger seat it would be vibrating a little. Now it doesn't do that either!
mine shutters at 10mph once or twice per drive cycle
How much did they charge to do this?
Still under warranty.
I'll add mine to the list. 2002 Chevy Tahoe that shakes between 70-75mph. Not all the time, but mostly. I didn't even try to solve it, but bought it a couple of years ago to build it as a fast beater. It had 220K miles on it with a 5.3 and 4L60E and already had performance wheels and tires. Put all new suspension on it because it was dry rotted from the AZ heat. Blew the 5.3 up and changed the engine to 6.0L with a performance 4L60E and 3000 stall converter with a Procharger. That was a big upgrade so I replaced the drive shaft with aftermarket and replaced things like the a/c compressor, alternator, etc. Replaced the wheels and tires as well. Broke 3 pistons (ring lands) and replaced the pistons with forged ones. So now I finally have it running good and thought I would go after the shake. The only time I thought it was less was after I put new upper and lower control arms on and the bushings were tight. After they wore in the shake got worse, so I am thinking it is the wheel hubs. Not sure if you tried that.
I decided to buy a 2017 Silverado brand new and it has the Chevy shake. I don't know why the company keeps on ignoring this huge problem. One thing I know for sure: I will NEVER buy one of their pieces of junk again!
'14 CC/SB 5.3L 4x4 with 3.42 ratio truck here. I had the chevy shakes above 74mph with stock 18" wheels and tires. I replaced the rear axle wheel bearings and axle shafts with Yukon's. I measured my driveshaft for run-out per the GM TSB, well within spec. Had a local driveshaft shop balance the stock shaft, which was out. Installed new ACDelco police rotors (supposed to be very balanced units). Those things fixed almost all of the shakes. The cherry on top was new (witnessed ) RF balanced Nitto G2's, the truck is fixed and I can drive 77 or 78 mph with the rest of the world. Frustrating and costly, but I won dang it.
brake rotors fixed your issue!??
I had this same issue.I tried on two sets of wheels, had the tires rebalanced, stock driveshaft rebalanced, reshimmed the rear axle angle, and had the axles checked for out of roundness with a gauge.Mine was a RCSB on factory 20" and the silver bullet was softer rear shocks.
Nothing else helped?
Ive done a ton of work! New axle shafts, rotors, new 6l80 trans with billet backed tq converter. My dial indicator shows axle, rims and driveshaft are all true. Mine has a slight wobble at take off then goes into an all out frenzy by 60+. Go pro underneath next to try and spot the next issue.
I bought a 2006 extended cab today with the 4.3, got it from an old man original owner and it does is at 1100 rpm and cruising at like 35-40. Soon as I speed up or slow down it goes away
My 06 is doing the same thing did you find out what's making it shake?
Mine ended up being an exhaust leak, all of my exhaust mounts have rubber bushings and they were all worn out which made it that much worse.
Great video this is the first time I subbed for someone just talking in the garage I can tell your a leader among men
Crazy he hit the nail on the head, I have 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ it has a vibration between 65-75 super random it comes and goes sometimes it's smooth other times it shakes the passenger seat.
Hopefully one day we will find the answer.
I adjusted the working degree of each u joint on the driveshaft. 2 degrees is about 1/4". 1/16" can make a difference in high speed 50 mph and over. The closer to zero they are the better. Toyota tundras are within .7 degree and lower on each joint. Trust me it makes a huge difference! Especially on a split driveshaft where there are 3 total joints to adjust. They all have to be the same. Any Shake or vibration is from rotation 99% of the time. Which is a lot of verifying. I used a klein digital magnetic gauge and straight edges and tapes. Vibration reduced by 15+% easy!!
I bet its the Torque Converter. In the GM Transmission calibration, there is a desired slippage rpm for when the TCC is locked up. This is there to allow the ECM to detect if there is any misfires for emissions purposes and It's usually configured for about 10-20rpm during cruzing speeds.
If you try and have your transmission recalibrated with something like HP Tuners and have the desired slippage all set to 0, I bet the issue will go away. Or possible a different tranmission fluid as its the desired TCC slippage that is cauing these vibrations.
I commented on other vid as well. The heavier necked down one piece drive shaft will help along with your mounts, but the actual issue is im engineering of the torque converter
I have a new billit back tq converter and its still doing it.
2001 silverado 2500hd 4x4 extended cab (6.0 lq4 - 4l80e - 261hd ) first timer experience with the Chevy shake and it just started on mine recently, I feel when it happens it is closest to me the driver. Steering lightly vibrates as well as the accelerator pedal along with the entire truck. I started with a rebalance of all my new (3000 mile mb4) cheap all terrains and found a rear u-joint coming apart, replaced both u-joints and still experiencing the shake. My front driveshaft is currently disconnected from the 4l80e - 261hd tranfer case to the front differential trying to diagnose an issue from before... (low growling on deceleration under 35) could still be from the transfer or transmission. Sounds like a bearing noise somewhere along with the vibration. The vibration starts in stages around 30, 40, 55, 60, 65 and worse at 70+ and phases out after 80 + noise lessons on deceleration but is significant. Just starting in on the convo and trying to help get this thing figured out!
I'm on my 4th Chevy Silverado and never had a problem. My newest one ( 2018 ) does a very occasional clunk when I let off the gas around 45 mph. Its an unsettling noise but it hardly ever happens and I can't duplicate it when I want to. Other than that it is the quietest smoothest truck I've ever driven or ridden in.
Man I’ve had the same issue it drives me crazy idk what it is
@@bigbullet9224 sounds like motor mounts fellas usually driver side
05 gmc canyon here. Tried rotating tires, new front hubs, front suspension, ball joints, tires balanced, alignment, tie rod ends and an entirely new steering rack. STILL have the problem. Glad to know this is a common problem and I’m not crazy, but super annoyed this problem exists. Next thing I might try is custom building a steering dampener since they don’t make one for my vehicle.
I hate you went through everything I’ve thought of…. I also thank you haha…
im on my 5th Silverado. My 02, 07 classic, 13 and 17 didn’t do this. Years ago I had a 06 RST I thought had a bent frame and got rid of it, but now that I have an 06 1500hd I’m experiencing it again I’ve come to learn about the “beaming”
I’m doing cab mounts this weekend. 2006 1500hd. Things I’ve done as well: rotors, tires, idler and pitman arm, shocks, alignments, balancing. Everything that would make sense to attack when getting a shake at a specific MPH. In fact, I know the speed I’m going just by feeling when the shake kicks in.
Installed new ujoints for front and back helped allot
I was thinking about this. My transmission locked up and went out at about 95000 miles. Up until that point, my truck rode very smoothly. No shake at all. Not long after the transmission change is when the shake started. I wondered if the new transmission they put in is causing a bind in the drive shaft reflecting on uneven U-joint wear.
Mine are getting done in the morning then the front axels
The malibu from 09 to 12 have a problem too with some vibrations after 75 miles I changed rotors ,control arms ,cv axles ,swaybar links and bushing struts , wheel bearings, motor mounts and balance the tires and that Damm shake after 75 won't go away.
My 2002 Avalanche 2wd was in need of attention regarding road feel and shake issues. So it needed an upper ball joint on the drivers side and we put 4 new Goodyear LT 265 70 17 tires with balancing. I was told I needed new U-joints which I knew, but was putting off for better weather. I decided waiting wasn't a great idea and replaced the front and rear u-joints and it made a tremendous difference in the ride as far as shaking as well as the reverse to forward CLUNK! Now at first it seemed smooth as silk on my test rides but after a little bit, I realized the shake (which feels like you're running over the rumble strips on the shoulder) was still there around 50-60 MPH. Then I remembered my wife's 2010 Mazda CX-9 AWD which had a similar "rumble" which felt like it was in the transmission that ended up being a stuck brake caliper. I barely caressed the brake pedal on the Avalanche when the shake started at 50 MPH and it went away immediately! Could my "Chevy shake" be in my brakes? We will find out soon....
Any update?
Well.... It’s been a year, .....?!!
@@deaconjones538 Shoot! I forgot to update what happened. I ended up putting new rotors and pads on and it hasn't done it since.
Lol.... No shit???
I think you may have cured the problem!!!
Thank you for responding back!!
I have done pretty much everything you have done. Instead of swapping my factory 2 piece driveshaft I had it balanced and its true. Also torque converter locked unlocked. I really believe it could be either the tail shaft of the transmission or its in the electronics. Either tuning, with something pulsing or its in the ABS system. I really think something is turning on electronically at these speeds and making the brakes pulse or something like that. I do know that this 1500 is the only one I've had were I needed to change the brake pads at 40k miles. All my past silverados lasted much longer. Just my thought.
Did the balancing help any.. this is what I'm being told
Mine too I believe you’re absolutely right
17 GMC Sierra 1500 with "Chevy Shake". Very helpful video. I had thought maybe something to do with rear springs but you no longer have them so that rules that out. Dealer had this truck for 110 days. They changed rear rotors, rebuilt rear end, followed by changing whole axle assembly, new shocks, all 4 corners new springs, new driveshaft, multiple alignments, multiple RFB followed by two new tires and more RFB. All this and it was only slightly better. When I got it back replaced the wheels and tires with aftermarket wheels and Cooper tires and showed no change. I then shimmed the rear axle 2 degrees which took about 80% of the shake away for a few thousand miles. Now it is back as bad as day one. Fresh out of ideas myself. Also noticed front right tire is cupping after only a few thousand miles. Thinking about trying Centramatic 300-356 dynamic wheel balancers. Anyone try them yet?
I was watching your video earlier today because I was curious about my truck shaking. That's when I came across your TH-cam video. I solved the problem on my truck it was the sway bar link. I noticed that there was a screw sticking out more from the driver side. It only cost me $100 bucks at the mechanic shop and done in twenty minutes or less. 2013 Chevrolet Silverado extended cab
Guys. Listen up! I’ve worked in GM service for 20 years. I own a 2016. I’ve fixed everyone that has ever come into the shop. Updated rack bushings and technical road force fixes them all. Very few people understand how to use a road force balancer to its full extent. Road force has to be under 15lbs. Or forget it. Good luck.
Also, the 20’s and 22in wheels/tires MUST be done hot. (Drive for 10-15 min and road force hot. You might have to split up 2 and 2 to do this) there is enough belt expansion in the tires when hot that will ruin your road force day if done cold. Hope this helps ya’ll
Where can one get a technical road force balance??? I’ve had road force balance done at Discount tire... new steel drive shaft, new rotors and brakes, new shocks struts, 2 flushes and new trans filter.... V4 delete range chip.. 2 trans shops that can’t find the problem and say it’s not the trans.... and still vibrates from 65 to 80 mph????
What do you mean by rack bushings?
@@aaronmccurdy8843
Most good GM dealerships have a quality road force balancer. The tires must roadforce out under 20lbs. Preferably under 15lbs for those really sensitive people. Ask for the before and after data for each tire balanced. I always put on the invoice for our customers to see.
@@jmc3967 about how much does the updated rack bushings cost installed at GM
2017, same issue. Shakes at 70+. I've taken it to the dealer service dept. a few times. 1st time they claimed a little bit of cupping in 3 tires after running road force test. I bought new tires...same issue with the shaking just not as severe as before...took it back to service department asked them if the transmission fluid flush would alleviate the shake (found on different forums) but their response was that it's a solution for the 8 speed shake not 6 speed. Is there a difference in in factory transmission oil from the 6 to 8 speed? They felt the shake again and said it is gonna be the tires, which are brand new. Asked me to take it back to tire shop to get road force balance done which I just did today....still shaking. I did mention that there has been a clunking and light rattle noise when driving slow speeds, over uneven surfaces, slow turns, or reversing...asked then to take a look as it could be part of the problem but they said suspension looks fine. Any ideas or solutions would be greatly appreciated.
check the tires might be unbalanced or BAD aka flat spot or tread separation... i had a bad vibration at 70mph turned out the rear passenger tire had a bubble and was lopsided or
VERY dangerous, pending blow out
cupping can be caused by Suspension issues,Vehicle misalignment, Wheel imbalance or bubble in the tire
2013 LTZ Silverado 4x4, 6.2L, 8SP trans. Vibrates like hell at hwy speeds between 60-80mph.
Done most the usual:
Shocks
Struts
Checked drive shaft runouts
Checked pinion angles
Replaced rear axles
Replaced all rotors & calipers
New tires/wheels
Re-hung exhaust (helped a little)
Though the vibration feels like its from behind, I'm of a mind now it originates at the front.
So Im bumping a guy who posted about a month ago-
Try your truck on a dyno. Rule out possible origin from front end. ☺
I dont have access to one here, and would really like to hear the results.
Best of luck man.
Yep I have a 2013 silverado bought new and it's taken some time but now it shakes like hell. Feels like it starts in the front-end and goes through the rest of the cab. I keep things it's wheels bearings but the garage says there good. I've had the wheels rebalanced and alignments checked and rechecked
My 2019 only does it whenever one of the tires comes into a state of freefall for a split second aka hits a bump hard enough or something similar. When the tire makes contact with the ground again it will be wobbling violently for a few seconds until I slow down. If it's on the back wheels whenever this condition happens it causes the differential to be put in a bind and pops two or three times.
2018, shaking since I got it, anytime I go over 70 mph
Me too, 2017
2017, same issue. Shakes at 70+. I've taken it to the dealer service dept. a few times. 1st time they claimed a little bit of cupping in 3 tires after running road force test. I got a 99 suburban pass 80
My 2015 Silverado crew cab has had multiple sets of wheels and tires, road force balanced, new axles, carrier, pinion bearings twice. I have only owned it for two months and it has been in the shop for four weeks total so far. Also, this is a certified used vehicle so still under warranty. Chevy engineer will look at it this week.
Please report back what the engineer says. I would much appreciate it!
Will do, I don't have much faith they will be able to fix it.
@@michaelnichols8633 I have a 2018 Sierra and it shacks like crazy when I haul my cargo trailer. I wonder if this is the problem I have. Keep us posted.
Does it shake around 70 without a trailer? Usually a trailer is something that solves the issue.
@@GoatRopeGarage it shakes without the trailer but not as bad as with the trailer. First time it happened I got home rotated the tires, checked the psi and still the same. I'm running bfg ko2 tires could that be the problem maybe??
I fixed my shake with cal tracs traction bars even tho i dont race it fixed itself plus it looks kinda cool
Did it change instantly?
I put new tires then it started to shake around 60-70 traction bars is the way to go?
2016 CCSB 5.3 6L80 90k miles: shakes around 47mph and then again from 68-75mph. Light acceleration seems to make it slightly worse, but it doesn't go away when off throttle. I can see my bed and rear wheels shaking behind me when it's doing it. Changed shocks to Bilstein 5100s, upped the spring rate of the front with Eibach lift springs, turned off DOD, changed to poly trans mount, exhaust mounts have been changed with aftermarket exhaust (didn't think that would be the issue but someone below mentioned that), tires balanced twice, putting a bunch of weight in the bed deosn't change anything, torqued u-bolts... Going to check runout on rear axle shafts and get driveshaft balanced. Will eventually do TC before it dies and destroys my transmission... Fun times.
My 2014 Silverado does it...and actually there were 2 situations when I accelerated to high rpm shift points the vibration got very violent until I eased off the accelerator then the vibration went away...
Try your lower ball joints, my truck would feel like it was coming apart at 70mph, even at lower speeds the whole truck would shake, the steering wheel shook ever so lightly, replaced lower ball joints, at least 90% better. Will replace top ones sometime to see if it makes a difference,
Hey my car started to shake out of now where even when its not moving do you think that i should fix the ball joints or somthing else
17 High Country 6.2L bought new. Everything check inside and out. Tires balanced, springs etc.... Trans flush replaced with Amsoil ATF on 8 speed and relearn no more vibration and clunking. AFM delete with Range.Still love the truck crossing fingers it doesn't haunt me later on with other issues
Really, trans flush and relearn sorted it? Interesting. Always figured some people's vibrations were trans related.
@@GoatRopeGarage Oddly that's all it took. I've seen so many that are still struggling with many issues and some traded. Some call it vibration/ shake mine was more like the wheels weren't balanced and it only did it when it was cold and would go away after a few kms. Apparently there's a Mobil fluid change GM is offering now for the 8 speed.
@@anthonymacneil2279 where you been. That tsb been out for almost a year now. Actually had my truck in the shop back in April and dealer didn't have the tool kit and mobil 1 back then. Checked back yesterday and have appointment set up for Wednesday. I've read sometimes the torque converter needs to be replaced if factory fluild damaged it.
Good luck with your truck
I had the shake on my GMC Yukon 2015 for 4 years until Costco balanced the tires right. and I could finally drive 85 in total peace... until the next rotation, and the shake was back. I had them rebalance tires without luck. I should have had them put them back in the original position before rotation. Tires are worn now so perhaps new tires will help.
As an OEM chevy installs aluminum lower control arms and they degrade really quickly and even come off the line defective. The problem presents itself right at that milage markers. I would upgrade to cast iron or high performance. You can replace the upper too but the lower is what absorbs road vibration and impact. There are test you can do and video on you tube to test them. Very easy to look over. Very easy to test out and very easy to replace
After sitting here and reading comments for about half an hour and on info aside from this video i think its my torque converter, im on my 2nd gmc truck and i dont think ill ever buy another gmc or chevy, which sucks cause i really like the way they look
I have 2018 high country. Started shaking fir me at 10000 miles. And getting worse at 15000. I visited the dealer and told me it’s wheel balance. I did the balance but it did not go away. I am taking the back to the dealer as it’s still on warranty. I will update you later
Any updates🙏🏽
My shake on my 2018 at around 75 mph turned out to be the rack and pinion. Replaced the rack and pinion, costing 2750.00 not really happy with the cost, since the truck only had 80,000 miles, everything was stock.
Found my 2nd factory driveshaft had .050 run-out. Switched to a Dorman with less than .010 but still has the shake. Maybe a little less harsh as my keys no longer rattle. Ran the truck up to 75 MPH with the axle on jackstands and no vibrations. Starting to wonder if it is in the front end or frame beaming. Doesn't make sense though vibes are in the 42-47HZ range.
I'm good, got a 2012. Smooth as glass
Got a 2012, 150,000 miles, shake just started, gonna be replacing some u-joints.
@@jayb198083 I also have a 2012 LTZ with 150K miles. I took mine on vacation and got it up to 75mph and it felt like one of the tires on the back had a huge knot on it. It scared my wife and kids pretty bad, to tell you the truth it scared me to. I backed off of it down to 65mph and it was fine then. Please tell me you found out what it is! I just bought this truck 4 months ago.
Yes I've heard I thicker wall in the drive shaft
I have a 2003 1500 4x4 and i have the same problem i have spent thousands trying to fix this problem. The latest thing i did was a cognito pitman and idler arm support and it did help but did not completely fix problem i have another problem that discusst me about gm is the pump rub issues that they are playing stupid about. Never thought i would think about buying a ford
There was a silver bullet for mine. It was pinion angle. My rear u joint angle was about 5 degrees nose high
When I first started to lower the truck I started with putting lowering shackles on it, it cut the vibration down and I knew then I was on the right path.
I’ve had multiple sets of wheels and tires, brakes and rotors, transmission, driveshaft etc.
Lowered the nose of the rear end and it’s gone, put it 2-3 degrees nose down to account for axle wrap that stands the nose of the rear end up under acceleration.
When I lowered my truck I also raised the tail of the transmission with the supplied spacer to straighten out the front u joint
Truck is perfect now, even on 24’s it’s 100% perfect
What did you use to adjust the rear end angle?
@@thewatcher1491 at first I installed lowering shackels which changed the angle and helped. Then I went to rear end shims. They come in 2 and 4 degree pretty commonly. I would order one of each and try them
After I figured out I was chasing the right thing, and also decided to lower the truck more… I ordered an axle flip kit and altered the saddles to get the correct angle
@@blk95gsrt awesome thanks dude, I am going to give it a shot. I too am convinced it’s coming from the driveshaft somehow. Also, I notice a definite difference wether I accelerate up to speed hard or softly so the axel roll variable makes a lot of sense.
@@thewatcher1491 I agree. If it’s worse on harder acceleration then it is very likely that the nose of the pinion is pointed up too high
I'm at a loss... My truck shakes too. Shakes really bad and vibrates the whole truck 60mph+ now it's doing it coasting in drive @10mph. Almost feels like a bad bearing catching or dragging but with vibration associated with it. My entire front end is brand-new except cv axles. All I know is that one day I smelled burnt trans fluid or more like gear oil. No idea...
I have new tires everything was balanced.... Drive shaft u-joints are good... I give up trying to rack my brain.. on April 30th when Michigan opens back up for business, I'm taking my truck into a transmission shop/drivetrain shop... If I solve the issue I'll let you know for my truck at least
Makes sense you smelled burnt tranny oil because supposedly most of the issues are from the oem Tran fluid. Now gm recommends full flush and adding the new Mobil tranny fluid(don't remember exactly what model #). And I believe it's covered at any certified gm dealership. Let me know an update if you go this route. Good luck ✌️
I just bought a 2016 Colorado Lt v6, after test driving 13 units, I finally found the ONE !! 45,000 miles Gm certified, no shakes, thumps or wierd noise. I want to thank the complete Chevy community on all their postings.
Hey Goat- i have the exact issue - changed a lot of the things you did. The one time it went away for at least a month was when i actually took the left side front strut out and installed a new bilstein 5100 lift strut in. Only had one side done and drove it. it drove like a dream. Finally said okay and did the other side and boom it came back instantly. now i'm temped to put it back the way i had it lol. I don't know if it changed the frame angle or something side to side but the truck absolutely drove like a dream for a month.
Hahahaha, dude that is the craziest solution I've heard so far, let me know if you try it again. I guess I could change the adjustments on one side of my trucks suspension and see if different rebound and compression settings clears it up.
I put all 4 blistein 5100s and did not fix mine
I got a 1995 Silverado I changed the cab mounts and shocks I am also in the process of changing the spark plugs and wires as well as the coils my 2008 Ford had a bad shake and change that and it helped for the most part but the axle was gone so it came back
Is the vibration there when on a dyno? Just wondering if eliminating the front end and wind drag helps to isolate the problem.
FasNuf ZL1 I agree!!!
Have you put a level kit on your truck? I'm not sure about anybody else's experience but I found with my truck I have a 2009 Silverado after doing the level kit after a while the pinion angle on the rear end had moved slightly, so I readjusted that and tightened everything up really well and have not had a problem
I always start with something small , check the u-joints, and u can also check the transmission mount some of the 2 wheel drive mounts would wear out and the metal part of the mount sits on the transmission cross member and causes a vibration
It is likely frame beaming whereas the frame is slightly flexing at certain speeds and the vibration is felt through the vehicle.
Don't know what GM has to say but most likely the frame would have to be strengthened.
I have a 2004 RCSB Silverado and it has the Chevy shake and I thought I was crazy. But you hit the nail on the head with how it does it. Then I have a 2005 CCSB Silverado and it couldn’t ride any better. I’m just as lost as you are.
I bought a 2017 2500hd Silverado Duramax and have been fighting this for over 4 years now. I’ve done everything that has been recommended - custom built driveshaft Bilstein shocks with the remote reservoirs all the way around, even have centramatic balancers all the way around. Been through 3 sets of rims and tires. Flushed all the fluids, rear ended and transmission. Nothing has worked at all!!! Trucks paid off, hard to let it go but I can’t do this anymore. I can’t find anyone to help GM just blames it on tires…. All I have done has been a result of my researching and trying to fix it on my own. I see with no change but wasted money. Truck shakes at any speed but 65-75 is ridiculous. I will never buy a Chevy again…
Sounds like you changed everything BUT the factory leaf springs which everyone assumes are the culprit.
Did you try ball joint’s, upper lower Aarms, wheel bearings, pitman and idler arms. You know all the stuff you would look at before everything you’ve done.
I had a new torque converter installed on 2018 Chevy high country. After a month I think I feel it coming back. It may only be the BFG KO 2’s I am running on. Pretty aggressive tread.
Torque converter needs replacing before the transmission goes out
Keep changing your transmission fluid until it stops shaking. Mobile one has a new transmission fluid that is designed for this problem. Blue label
Hello from the future. I never even knew about chevy shake or heard of it until I just started watching videos to do 100k maintenance and came across this. I have a 2014 chevy 1500 crew cab 6 1/2ft bed ltz z71 20x9 factory rims. Took delivery October 2013 and now has 110k on it and on 3rd set of tires. Never done anything besides change oil and brakes. I'm not gloating but why not take a truck that doesn't have the issues like mine or someone else's and start swapping parts back n forth like for like and wait until the vibration begins in the truck that didn't have that issue and cures it in the truck that did have the issue. I'm sure gm could afford to pay someone to tear 2 down side x side and would be well worth the investment on their part.
My 2002 Z71 extended cab has a front end suspension vibration. I took it to a dealer and he said the upper control arm ball joints were bad. I wanted to do a whole front end so I bought new MOOG upper and lower control arms, tie rods, idler arm and pitman arm. Napa front rotors and pads. Also oem intermediate steering shaft, front wheelbearing hub assemblies and 4 oem shocks and 4 new Michelin LTX tires.
The vibration did not leave at all?
Any suggestions?
I have asked every lowered 2014+ rcsb owner I have met if they have that issue and they all have. Even my buddies 4x4 lowered. I did see that either ride tec or beltec had a trans mount that was supposed to fix shake from drive line angle. I was going to try that next. You should try it for me lol
I shimmed the transmission off the mount .215'' and my 70mph shake is gone. seems to have smoothed out a few other vibrations too. Unfortunately i did this After 8 new tires, new wheels, several trips back on the balancer, still shook at 70 bad enough i didnt need to stir my coffee in the morning, i hope someone here tries this and has similar results.
Where do you go to get something like that done???
@@mentalreaper8228 put thick washers under your transmission mount
Mine's an 08 5.3l Silverado and it vibrates between 44-60mph, going up a slight hill, while I'm juuust slightly putting my foot into the gas pedal. I really noticed it when I went from stock wheels to 33x12.5 20's. It's driving me crazy. I checked my u joints, got an alignment, and it still does it
My 08 stopped when I changed the rear cab mounts to the latest style
@@ramblinman787 I'll have to check my mounts. After I posted this, I installed a 5" lift and 35" tires and it got worse, so I did some research and I installed pinion angle shims over the rear lift blocks and it helped a lot but I still have a slight vibration at 44mph.
Check carrier bearing for the driveshaft! Had a horrible vibration
Grinding noise...i bought the carrier bearing for 18 bucks and now the chevy is crusin smoothly. (2500hd)
I have noticed after a wheel balance and newer tires it runs smooth but not perfect..also maybe something to consider with bed fully loaded and trailering a small trailer it runs almost vibration free.. is it an aerodynamic issue? just my 2 cents....would love an answer on it but its doubtful because GM knows and its probably not good to fix it for them.
My 2019 Silvarado was "shuttering". The dealer put a higher viscosity transmission fluid and the problem went away. They told me the factory fluid was not thick enough to open a certain valve in the transmission and that what was causing the shutter.
Which fluid type did they use?
Left to right wheel snatching, first time I thouggt I had a flat tire.
I call it the 3500holder'down
While I was replacing the pinion seal in my 2019 high country that only has 64348 miles on it I noticed the transmission mount is not holding the transmission very well it’s really easy to move I actually thought it was broken but it wasn’t it could be the hole transmission is shaking with the driveshaft
I think the problem is in the transmission with a valve shuttering or torque converter locking and unlocking
Could be with the 4cyl. Cutout
Mine's a 96 S10 with a V8 attached to an nv3500 5 speed. I recently was moving and was hauling ass a few times whilst loaded, it started vibrating a month after. It cracked my passenger side collector by the y pipe. Every time I had it welded it would crack in less than a couple weeks of driving. It vibrates after 90 mph in 4th and 5th gears sometimes violently sometimes mild enough to recognize. I replaced both motor mounts, transmission mount, clutch, flywheel resurfaced, bell housing transmission was inspected drive shaft was balanced. I've balanced all four tires. Can a harmonic balancer being damaged cause problems like that? Break a bellhousing? The bell housing broke months after I moved while driving with the vibration.
You can check your transmission fluid and inspect and particles such as metal shaving in the oil which that meas it has something to do with the trans.
Have 2015 Silverado 6.2 Double cab purchased new do like your video, My personnel feeling is I think in Transmission issue seems like when shifting is where vibration comes in or should say after it shifts , my first thought was I thought when motor shut some cylinders down for gas consumption was it but more leaning towards Transmission .what is your thought
?
I literally yelled “Yes!” Seeing the same truck in the background as mine.
yea i have the same truck color except mine is the extended cab and with the same fender wells
Iv put new bushing in the electric steering rack the larger ones, the smaller bushing i filled the space in the bushing in with polyurethane, and took a rough country steering damper , welded one side to outside front crossmember and bolted the other side stait to the back of the steering rack electric motor, took my shake down like 80%
Lifted my truck at a shop to get brakes rotors replaced, the mechanic asked me if I had the “chevy shake” told him yes, he asked if it was cool to raise the truck and have his helper accelerate while tires were off the floor, we were able to see the drive shaft vibrate as we felt the shaking thru the entire truck... mind you, all tires brand new and road forced... 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 Custom.
I did front CV axles, front hubs/bearings, tie rod ends, front shock absorbers, new aftermarket steel drive shaft from reputable company, new tires... None of this helped. Hope you find it man. Good video appreciate the thorough run down
I just installed a diablo sport tuner. Changed factory tune and turned off AFM. No more shaking
@war daddy can you expand on that response?
My Silverado has a very harsh ride. Only comfortable on a smooth highway. Transmission acts funny around 20-30 mph.
mine does same shit 35 to 45 then goes away.. Gotta be a tail shaft issue
Torque Converter.
I have a GMC Savana 2500 has the shaking problem, it will happen at speed of around 80 KM/h. When you try to brake, that makes the highway downhill drive very scary, because you need to brake to cap the speed from going too fast. I went to the auto shop they changed rotors and brake pads, it didn't solve the problem. So I try to slow down to 60 km or under before entering the slop and keep it driving under 60 km. I have an engineering background, I think this is resonating, somehow the front drive system has a resonating frequency which is equal to the vibration when you brake at around 80 km speed, so what you experienced is the resonating effect of the front driving system. It will escalate to reach a peak because of the frequency of the vibration caused by the braking equal to the frequency of the front driving system. It could cause failure or damage to the driving systems.
To make it short, it is a design flaw, when they design the driving system, the frequency is similar to the frequency of the frequency caused by the braking action at around 80 km/h. I had a 1999 Vandura 2500 which does not have this vibrating problem, doesn't matter you are going down hill on highway and try to brake. Next time I buying a van I will check the issue by driving down a slop at higher speed and brake to test the resonating effect.
Yeah I have the shakes on my 15’ Silverado when i drive from 55-68mph
I got the tires balanced and it fixed 80% of the shake but a week after it came back, maybe even worse.
i have 2011 gmc sierra and i got the same balance of the tires and i thought it helped at first and like you said i noticed it again more now
I have a 2016 double cab with 6.5’ bed. I just bought it used, and it came with Toyo open county tires (285/70r18) on stick 18” rims. Smooth as butter. A few days ago I put the same tires on fuel 18” rims and they balanced out perfectly but now I have the chevy shake at 70-80 mph. I made sure to use hub centric rings, and used all the same lug nuts without locking keys. Have YOU used stick wheels to test with???
I’m curious as well because I have fuel wheels and my truck is the worst I’ve been in
I have a GMC 2500 cargo van and it was the Gear box along with cheep tie rod ends. I replace both and it fixed mine. Van shakes no more.
Everything works as one. Maybe step back and view everything as a whole. Like when building an engine sometimes we gotta pay attention to what piston or ring set goes in which hole to keep everything as a unit in spec
I have a 2017 Silverado 1500 and have no shake. Not rubbing it in but after hearing/watching all the videos about this issue I feel GM should take my truck for inspection. My buddy has a 2016 Silverado 1500 and has the shake somewhat, we’re both confused. Only thing I can say is I put a 2inch leveling kit on the front right away... maybe brining the front end up a bit helps?
No cause I have a 2” leveling kit on mine and it still shakes...
I have experienced to 31-34 & 62-68 shakes too. First is TIRES. First too many guys want mud tires with aggressive tread, 2nd goes to Chevy with the CHEAP balls (upper control arms, ties rod ends, etc), 3rd goes to Chevy RIMS, 4th goes to Chevy SHOCKS. But RIMS that are out of round or bent are a key factor (especially when two or more line up their out of round at the same time). You can BANK on replacing the entire front end of your Chevy every 180,000. But I suspect it has something to do with filling the frame with hell like BMW does to help deaden road noise and stability.
2015 chevy 1500 fixed. I just installed a Diablo sport tuner. Changed the factory tune, turned off AFM. Problem is gone
I was thinking of trying that tuner to fix this problem on my 2016, wondering if running on 8 cylinders all the time and a more aggressive transmission tune would help out. Worst case I get more power
Bushings trans output maybe. Mines leaking in that area. Getting it checked tomorrow. Vibrates upon acceleration and pulls some. Horrible in the rain. I’m thinking back u joints too.
I have a 2012 Silverado. We took it on vacation 2 weeks ago and at around 70mph I got this bad vibration from the rear end. The front end was fine. It felt like one of the back tires had a knot or a bad flat spot, but the tires are new. I had my wife and kids with me, so I decided to back it off down to 65. I have to admit, it scared the shit out of me. Hope you can help me with this?
2017 Silverado 4wd 6l80 18" wheels. 265/65-18 junk factory Goodyear Wrangler tires 42,000 miles. Had Chevy shake between 70-80 mph. I replaced corroded rotors with evolution rotors and new Hankook P 70 series tires(one size up from 65 series) and my shake is totally gone! I did disable DOD/AFM and torque converter TCC lockup 1st thru 3rd gear only to stop the madness at low speeds but factory TCC lockup tune in 4th thru 6th. I will say that using better trans fluid than the shitty thin viscosity GM fluid and a friction modifier like Lubeguard Platinum will stop the TCC shudder also. Change the fluid at least every 30K miles. Also reverse the trans cooler thermostat to flow all the time if you don't live in a super cold climate. I have seen many fail, overheat and fry the trans pretty quick.
Im looking at GMC sierra 1500 SLT and thanks for explaining this chevy shake
Anybody check pinion / trans driveline angles?? Maybe GM has a problem with drive shaft / u joint angles... Could cause harmonic vibrations. Sagging rubber trans mount? Just a thought.
its engine mounts and there is specific way to install engine mounts when it comes tightening engine mounts bolts....
Did you solve that shake problem yet?
Yes hand grenade
@@ricktotz4078 🤣😂
Heat seems like the problem. Didn’t shake till a 105 degree day. Last month!! The fluid looses its slip then shaking. Torque converter is the reason for the heat. The aluminum is so cheap. They have started using Japan for their aluminum and steel lately.
Have you checked the rear axle shaft end plates, where the wheel studs mount, for out of round? It's in rotating mass, wheels and tires good, driveshaft good, it's axle shaft. Run out on axle end plate checks rotating position, but doesn't address balance. What about wheel stud position to dead center of the axle? That would do it too!
Btw thanxs for the tuning guides still learning my hptuner
New Universal Joints fixed mine
Some Chevy don't have correct Trans fluid in it. My son has 2018 1/2 ton with 6.2 8 speed and got shutter.changed Trans fluid to dextrose full synthetic and fixed it.
I know shutter is different from vibration but my son truck doesn't vibrate or shutter no more after fluid changing
I think it’s mostly frame vibration. Does this happen on the HD? Trucks. My shake over the years loosened my box bolts I lost 2 and the tail gate is super worn out . I found that putting a ratchet strap across the upper box holes closest to tail gate helped my box wiggles but still have the frame shake.
I did multiple rims and tires, full kryptonite center link and tie rods, pitman arm and idler arm, kryptonite upper control arms, played with traction bar adjustments, still have it on 2020 2500hd, was thinking of trying wheel bearings next...hope you figure it out
My 98 seirra did that and I changed out gearbox pitman arm idler arm and and seem to have stopped
What do you mean you changed out the gearbox I’m having the same issues right now my issue starts as I takeoff like you indicated it progressively gets worse I have to pull over but in my case the faster I go the smoother the ride when I slow down is when it starts vibrating profusely Any help anyone? Thanks brother
Check the torque converter and use shudder additive
Sounds like we're all screwed....
It doesn't bode well. I think I'll do a torque converter soon, but after that, I'm not sure.
I suggested to the dealership to change the torque converter but Chevy wont let them because they say the vibration is in the rear end. They have replaced everything in the rear end and it didn't help at all.
Their own report states it comes from the front end, they are very good at playing stupid.
Michael Nichols Any updates?
I Know You're Right But I replaced the tires and it went mostly away
Interesting
I have a 92 1500 Blazer 4x4
In 2020 it started to display these tendencies from 65-80mph.
I replaced the shocks,CV joints and tie bar rods and ends.
New tires balanced the tires also had a front end re aligned. Still there
It seems when l'm doing say 75 and the vibration starts l csn let off the gas and it ceases. Something else l tried shifting from 4th to 3rd it goes away in my automatic transmission. So l wonder if it's in the transmission?
Hmm. My truck has 394,560 miles on it. But now you say it's common on new trucks too.
This is nuts!
I heard a transmission flush will help, also a tune will help. I had the same shudder on my ATS LGX motor and it’s gone now
What i just done im my Silverado to solve this shake problem was put original stocks 17" rims and Al this shake disappears.
My truck has 18s and has no shakes, I put 24s and now it shakes. Maybe the axles ??
