    The rivalry between large technology companies only exists in the minds of consumers (aka "fans"), because they have very strong commercial and technological relationships. In other words, it's stupid to fight for these companies.

      Samsung is a display company. Apple has an order for 150 to 200 million displays. If Samsung the display company doesn't get that business someone else will. If the company isn't there at the moment, the company will be created to do it. Why would Samsung Display want to give that opening to LG or another company that would be given the business to ramp up and be a competitor? That would be insane.

      But that's only miniLED. What about the OLED displays used in the iphones and the standard LED used in the macbook air? Not to mention that it's just a small company that lacks the capacity to manufacture to scale. It won't happen.
      Moreover, Apple is a company that will only involve themselves in a business with high profit margins. The margins to be made here isn't enough to attract their attention. They most likely bought that company for their R&D rather than for manufacturing.

    • @EnbyWithAPhone
      @EnbyWithAPhone ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@fidelisitor8953 there’s been rumors that they where going to switch to mini LED for the better specs, and FoxCon wasn’t as big as it was until they signed with Apple to make the iPhone. Also, Apple loves their product secrecy and the Samsung screen team has leaked details regularly to where new details where not that big of a surprise on the 14 lineup. Additionally, I’m willing to bet that an in house screen manufacturer would improve cost control, something Tim Cook is well known for doing to improve profitability and customer satisfaction considering they already have a robust team of engineers. Rumors that I’ve heard suggest the company that was acquired is focused fully on manufacturing. They want Samsung out of their devices, this is likely why Apple has been so big on expanding their independent control over their components.

  • @Charlesb88
    @Charlesb88 ปีที่แล้ว +43

    The important thing to know about Samsung is that they operate their parts devision separate from the devisions that manufacturer consumer electronics. Thus their parts devision operates with the goal of selling parts to as many manufacturers as possible including to companies that compete with Samsung consumer devision. So while Samsung the phone brand competes with Apple, they don’t control the parts devision and couldn’t order the parts devision to cut off Apple (or Sony or any other customer) if they wanted to. The parent company knows that keeping both the parts devision strong helps the consumer devision more so then giving them a monopoly over smartphone chips, screens, batteries, etc. Samsung’s phone devision likely knows that if Apple was ever cut off from Samsung parts they would find a reliable alternate partner soon enough so any benefit for Samsung phone sales would be short lived.

      @@analogueoverdigital929 @analogueoverdigital929 That bit of info on the revisions at Samsung isn't as obvious to everyone as you think. Many people don't realize that Samsung's phone and parts departments operate as anonymous divisions with different goals.
      As for your other arguments, yes you can do more customization, emulation, etc with android phones but not everyone cares about that. It's these folks who are quite happy staying in the Apple walled garden, as hard as that is for you to understand. I've used both IOS and Android phones and can see benefits to both depending on one needs or. concerns. • @Charlesb88
      @Charlesb88 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      In the case of Microsoft, when Microsoft invested something over 100 millions in Apple in the late 90s, they were in the midst of a serious antitrust trial and needed to prop up Apple who was then near bankruptcy so it was largely motivated by self-interest on Bill Gates part. Besides, Bill Gates had little to worry back then about Apple ever taking away much marketshare from Windows even as the Mac saw a resurgence with the original iMac. Of course, with the bungling of Windows Phone introduction, which replaced Windows Mobile platform, Microsoft lost that war with the iPhone and as well as with Android. Now MS focuses more on getting their software like Office 365 running on all platforms like macOS, IOSS/iPadOS, Android, ChromeOS, etc rather then trying to force everyone to use Windows by making it all run only on Microsoft platforms, especially since their embrace of cloud computing and treating Windows as lesser player these days.

    Samsung needs Google's Android and Playstore. And though Google also makes phones and tablets, they need Samsung to also make phones and tablets to promote Android marketshare worldwide.

    Hello Greg, was wondering whether you would be interested making a video about apple’s product user group. I follow the usual “tech” channels and podcast and see that it is heavily geared towards and made by nerdy kind of background (e.gl heavy pc/computer users). But last time I try to figure out whether my Apple Pencil should get a sleeve or not and realise that those videos / channels are mostly occupied by students / artists who uses their devices quite differently. It was also striking that their videos are not always straight lines and clean symmetric b roll, but more wavy lines, alternate font types en lots of pastel colours. So I was wondering whether you know or interested in sharing perhaps the wide range of users. Sometimes I think the “tech” videos do remain often in their own bubble where we continue to discuss usb-c ports rather than what people actually do with the new products or features.

But I feel their is more than enough room in the markets for everyone that wants to try to produce a good product. My guess is the majority of people think they’re is this negative rivalry because of the advertising that is constantly shoved down our throats. When in reality Apple and Google are actually working together in many ways, and they both benefit greatly from it. Sorry for changing companies their, but once again it doesn’t matter which two companies do you match up, their probably in bed together(as the old saying goes) . And there’s no negativity other than between customers sometimes.

      iPhones offer better value overall. Hardware is stronger and you get more security and software updates. And you have a better chance of selling it on the used market, which in turn might save you more than if you bought a somewhat cheaper samsung. If you want performance and up to date features iPhones are better in the long run. For example Samsung's A53 gets 4 years of security and software updates, in contrast newer iPhones might get 8 years. The standard iPhone's price is roughly the double of the A53, which in turn means that if you plan to use the iPhone for its maximum supported time, the A53 and iPhone share the value, but the iPhone offers much better specs in terms of hardware (in the first few years of usage, depending on how much you use it, it might get really rough to use in the later years).
