    Moe Norman in a video says to hold the club in the palm of your hand, never in your fingers and also never interlock your hands, Moe says it gives you more control, so I tried it last year 2020 and it was a game changer for me

    That was the greatest tip after 55 years of playing golf. My right hand was always on the third row of finger grip. I moved it today for the first time on the second row of finger grip. Went back to overlap on my pinkie fingers. WOW what a difference it made. All my shots went at least 15 yards further. I was releasing the club through the shot. Thank you very much. I can’t wait to practice. I never had a bad shot all day. It was unbelievable. Thanks again. I will have to go back and view the rest of your videos. Keep up the good work. .

  • @wallstreetoneil

    The real reason you want to do this is because of your Right Elbow - the power of your swing, like when throwing a ball, naturally comes (watch yourself throwing in slow motion to see it) when your Elbow LEADS the Hand when throwing - creating an accelerating whipping motion with the hand. Thus, when taking your Right Hand Grip, you want to do so with your Right Elbow in that position so it will more easily find this position in the golf swing. If you do the Reach/Grab technique, your Elbow rotates the wrong way & will rob power potential

    • @formulaic78
      @formulaic78 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So when you're swinging should it feel like your right arm is doing most of the work on downswing? My old swing which is pretty weak and leads to slice always feels like both arms are swinging equally. When messing around with it I've tried holding the club such that it feels like my right arm is doing most of the work. It feels great but usually results in me sending the ball straighter but left. So I've stepped away from that, but perhaps I should stick with it and fix whatever else in my swing is sending it left? I live (and am currently trapped due to COVID) in a city where lessons in English cost $200 so I'm trying to rebuild my swing solely using TH-cam videos like these and figure out what I'm doing wrong.

    • @wallstreetoneil
      @wallstreetoneil 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@formulaic78 I would suggest you go to the TH-cam Channel of Eric Cogorno - he has an amazing online TH-cam channel of golf swing mechanics that will absolutely help you build knowledge. Basically, if your miss is a weak slice, your control over the clubface being square to your back is completely lacking. Eric has hundreds of videos that will help you understand how to control this with either or both of your left or right hands

    Tried this on the range yesterday worked like a charm one of the best, most consistent range sessions I've had, the only thing I think he should mention is. They way he rolls his elbow helps you to reach underneath the club , and allows the heel of your right right to contact the grip between the thumb and finger tips of left hand and to make sure you are keeping that contact through the swing. I really noticed that difference and keeping that contact through the backswing helped me , i could feel it when i would get separation and know that has been a fault of mine off and on for years.

    it is NOT the 2nd "pad" of the fingers it is the 3rd "pad." Ben Hogan's book- pg 8/9. if you actually tried to put it in the 2nd pad area, you will lose power. The correct grip will produce calluses on that third pad area (if you are hitting enough balls). You place the grip on top of that third area, then fold your hand over. Unless you are using the Mo Norman natural swing, I think he put it in the palms of his hands.

    Rough comments here! Goodness, when you consider all the other short and sweet videos he’s done this one is just fine.
    I would also add if you wanna start making longer, 60 min videos, would be fully welcomed too. Thanks again Matt.

    Thank you so much for the tip. As a beginner golfer, I did take lessons but there is so much to grasp. I kept slicing my clubs. Then I used your tip. I noticed my club face was closed every time I hit my irons and woods at the driving range yesterday. It is good to receive the club than GRAB the club.

      Good one, lol. So much to "grasp".

    I like how he emphasizes the grip as being the most important aspect of golf- because it is. its our only contact with the club and dictates the swing.

    • @timfagan235
      @timfagan235 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Like your response. Asked my 4 handicap buddy, on a scale of 1-10, how important is the grip? His response: 11.

    • @raynorlynn810
      @raynorlynn810 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ...the most important aspect is the scorecard homie, nobody cares how, only how many. Heres something you may not realize: you're not Adam Scott. Stop trying to swing like Adam Scott. 👍
      I've been teaching 18 years. At first yeah, I was teaching "let's get closer to perfect" but that doesn't make anyone better (well...not 68 year old retirees anyway). I learned to help people move in a way that makes sense for their bodies. Ever had a lady with very large breasts? It's different is what I'm saying. Don't teach Adam Scott if Adam Scott isn't standing there.
      What I wish he would say in this video is that there's a reason to do things. For example, he lays the club in his right palm resulting in the club going back inside and open. Why do that? He's got 2 good hands, why remove one? I suspect he fears low and left. He built a swing that makes low left pretty much impossible. That's what everyone does: "just not THAT". Your brain is going to fight whatever pattern you don't like seeing, know that going in. You're throwing darts not performing a dance, nobody cares how...only how many
      Build something you can repeat...then we'll talk grip.

      @@raynorlynn810 You must be a lousy golf teacher. I say emulate a pro who fits your eye and style... and if he has a grip variety you like. Adam Scott has a great classic and fundamental swing to pattern to. But to imitate him it all starts with the grip. get a clue.

      Your grip can be perfect but unless you stay in the shot until the ball leaves the club face you will push fade if you lift before impact. If you lift when the ball is on the face pull hooks will be the miserable result. Practice throwing a softball under handed down the target line as far down you can. Do it from a correct golf set up and make sure you're still looking at the divot when the ball has left the face. You'll feel your right shoulder leading your right hand down and under as acceleration carrys the clubface and ball straight down the line. The best advise I ever got was "swing down the line as far as you can" it encourages natural timing, solid contact, acceleration, accuracy and consistency. I started firing dead straight. Watch my boy Fred "Boom Boom" Couples he let's nature do its thing. Seems to work for him 👊 Good luck and good golf my friend 👍

    matt, this episode has literally changed my game, not that I am hitting farther, but after 50 some odd years, my problem of slicing, is now a hook, but the hook for me is somewhat wonderful, and its the grip, being 74, and finally have anyone show me just what the grip is suppposed to be, awesome, thanks.... rick shield screwed by not inviting you also.

    Yes this is really helpful, watched it went out and tried it and got results. Main concern was not distant as much as direction,as I started to hit target zones,I started hit it a little further without fear of misdirection,I think that when you can keep it straight you more comfortable hitting it a little longer. This one is a keeper.

    Much deserved subscription and like from me. This absolutely changed my game! Never knew such a simple fix would cure my short game. I even had pro instructors in Jax Fl couldn’t figure out why the ball was not going farther for me. Everything else was good but not one ever even addressed my grip. I can draw, fade …(on purpose) for the first time in 44years!
