Once again Paul, “Thank You!” I have struggled over the years - taking lessons, watching videos, etc., yet always missing some small piece of the puzzle. You consistently help with all of your video instructions. After watching your Neutral Grip and club face alignment instructions and this one devoted to the right hand grip, I am on the right track. This year has seen a huge change in my ability, confidence and score, mostly due to your easy to understand instructions! I’m a huge fan! Thanks!
Excellent! You need to see the pieces and how the fit into the big picture. If you don't get it you will never do it because you don't see the importance however small that piece is. Glad you are working on it.
The golf swing is indeed a puzzle, and the pieces if viewed to soon dont seem to fit. The pieces need to come in some order is what i have learned over the years. For me the consistent backswing, leading to a consistent inside to outside downswing was key so then I was able to adjust ball positioning and setup so the consistent swing works best. Noting of course there are at more than a couple of different variations of the setup and swing for; Driver, woods/long irons, mid/short irons, wedges, bunker shot, chip shot, flop shot, pitch shot, half swing and 3/4 swing. There may be more but these are what Ive worked hard to get a handle on (no pun intended) and which I am working hard to master. What an AMAZING game. So mental in so many way. Success always! Dr D
For sure. Too many people want to work on everything all at once and hit every shot perfectly. You work on one piece that doesn't mean you are going to hit great shots. Yes, there are a few set up changes but don't feel you are doing totally different swings. The movement is basically the same allowing the length of club to change it automatically. Don't forget the follow through. This is the most important piece of all.
I have my 5 top training videos from Paul and this is number 1. I can’t tell you enough on how Paul fixed my game just by going back to the basics which helped me identify the mistake I had picked up which threw my game way off. In my opinion Paul is the best online instructor on the net. It was tips from other videos that destroyed my swing and confidence of striking the ball that I had built since I was 18 to the point of walking away and then I found Paul, I watched one video and it got me striking the ball again, so then watched another video which led to another video. I cannot express enough the gratitude I have and belief for Paul. The only thing I regret is that I don’t live in Las Vegas to thank him in person. Make sure you all like and subscribe to Paul’s videos especially if you’re in your mid-40s to your mid 50s I’m hitting the ball finally again like I did when I was 30.
This is a big one for sure. Can't believe so many people do not do the grip right. It all starts with the grip and you need to be constantly checking it. It's easy to move to a strong position. Thank you for the support. I need all the help I can get spreading the word. So many people out there need help. They just need to understand it, get used too a few new feelings and a little work. Just loosening up alone should get anyone hitting some better shots. I will keep doing what I do and one day everyone will want to do it.
You don’t need any other teacher than this man right here!!!! I have a feeling what I have learned is about too make me strike with 80% more efficiency, accuracy, most of all effortless power!!! Iv tried it and I feel like my swing speed has increased by like 6-10 mph. I’m so glad I found this iv been golfing for about 2 1/2 and I don’t just do it for fun I do it so I can kick the shit out of all my buddies and get really good so thank you thank you thank you!!!!
This is a big one for sure. It has helped so many people which tells me that so many people are not doing the grip properly. Stay focused on this into the future. Let's get you to a plus hdcp.
Your absolutely right, when we loose our groove just go back to the basics and chances are it's going to be in your grip, it's happened to me a time or two 👍🤪🇺🇲
This is got to be one of the best videos to explain the golf grip and what the club actually does when it's in your hands!!!! This was a game changer in my golf swing because it gave me a feeling that I've always been searching for in my golf swing!! No one ever explained the grip like this and it makes complete sense of whatever one else has been telling you at the start of your swing but never at the top of your swing.. thanks!!!
Oh man Thank you. I’ve been having so many issues feeling like I’m losing my grip on my back swing and the ? Mark grip has totally changed that. Headed to the range now. 👏
Agree, looks great.Haven't seen a Good Grip Presentation ,EVER!. Have to try it out today at the range to see how it goes! I've done 2 of the 3 things he mentions. One is having shaft tooo deep down my thumb and forefinger and also squeezing the club too tightly with those fingers rather than letting the club just REST in the Question Mark!! Sal P
cradling the handle in the V and not the thumb at the top of swing, after 20 years i finally get it. so much easier to stay behind the ball and not early release it now. wow
Paul, THANK YOU for this critical tip. I am an avid golfer, 72 years old with a mid-5 GHIN index. I have been experimenting with my grip (and takeaway) for quite some time and your helpful insight into "the question mark" grip has been a game changer for me. The club doesn't "slip" out of position at the top of my backswing anymore. This had led to missed shots, both left and right (!), but using "the question mark" grip the club stays where it's supposed to. Today I hit all 14 fairways and shot 1 over par 73. Again, THANK YOU! By the way, I've been using "the question mark" for about 2-3 rounds now. It felt funny at first, but now it feels GREAT and I have confidence in the outcome. Bravo!
So glad you found this tip and tried it. You definitely need to cradle the club up there. You are doing great. You will never forget the question mark now. Keep at it.
I normally don't comment on TH-cam videos, but that Point of View with the grip at the top of the swing and swinging through was huge for me. I am surprised that many more channels aren't utilizing that teaching perspective. Ill be a regular visitor now. You are the man, sir.
I have just made this adjustment today following your advice, and the results have been instant. Much much better and stronger grip, allowing my wrist to break at the top of my swing. It's made such a big difference, thank you man!
For sure. I thought people would like these POV tips. Here are all of the ones I have: th-cam.com/video/jQZLp8bF-Ww/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/Xk7t9yHCO-I/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/DluO-1GTWVw/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/7olBqwXF3Ik/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/qUW-JoIRv4c/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/ZOwdB4tNVfI/w-d-xo.html
Paul, You are a true Ambassador in Golf. As soon as I switch my grip similar to yours I immediately feel the correct feedback in hinging the wrist during up swing. Follow through during downswing as you demonstrated on your other video totally helped as well. Im aiming to break 80 on my next round.
I'm 44 years old. I love golf so much. Something I share with my dad and closest friends. I have a bad lower back, and was in a bad car accident a few months ago and needed surgery. Recovering now and researching how to rebuild my swing safely so I can play again in the future. I love your videos and tips Paul. Breaking everything down so clearly is fantastic. I've been sharing with my dad, a lifelong golfer, former pro, and teacher, and he's super impressed too. I can't wait to start practicing your grip and swing style when I'm able to!
So glad you found me and are working on it. You certainly need a pain-free swing. i have helped countless people in the past play pain free. A few main key would be a taller setup meaning you are not all bent over. Using the legs and hips and not hitting with arms. Hit with arms and you won't use your body plus you will be doing a violent movement with your muscles locked up. Watch how little effort I put into these shots. If I can do it you can do it and as you see this swing will never hurt: th-cam.com/video/Q_LW7nm4ssk/w-d-xo.html
This is great Paul! This is truly what I’ve been missing. You by far have the best videos and angles and it really helps. Thanks and I’ve never sent money to anyone on TH-cam until tonight! You deserve it and I just want to thank you for all you do. PS my game has improved so much from watching your videos.
Glad you liked it. This is such a huge problem that people don't even realize they are doing. Position this thumb off the shaft and the wrists can hinge which creates more power. So glad you are doing well and thanks again for the support.
I have been watching your swing videos and this grip video is the perfect compliment to facilitate the proper swing. Being an epic slicer of the ball, I decided to give this a try expecting a train wreck. This makes way too much sense. I am pleased to report that this is a game changer. It not only improved my distances and my dispersions, but I can tell a significant difference on the impact it has had on this 68 year old body. It may not sound sexy but this is the most ergonomic golf swing I've found so far.
I have been playing for over 20 years and I can't reach 200 yards on my driver. After I watched your video about the hinds and re-hinds plus how to grip, I was really surprised that I gained more yardage, literally over 200 yards now. My friends were so surprised and I told them about you and your video. You're an amazing instructor Paul! Thank you SO MUCH. I'm having fun playing golf now.
Why is it that you’ve become the ONLY trusted TH-cam Golf channel I watch 😉. Very thorough and detailed in your instruction.... most importantly it works! Your video on loose arms helped my iron shots immensely and got my iron game back on track. 👍Bravo 👏
Because I actually make people better and have done so since 1991. I give you the answers because no one could answer my questions when I was learning it. I also know my students. In no way is the average person going to understand or learn complex moves. It has to be simple. If you understand what to do in the sense you see how it fits into the big picture. I make it simple enough for you to actually do it. Then you will at least try it. If I can get you to see the result withing about a bucket of balls then you will keep doing it (I hope). Thanks for the support.
Best online teacher ever!!! I am from Argentina and I have been playing golf since 1989. I am 43. You are so right in everything you teach. Thanks for all Paul!
Everybody else explains the correct grip but not the incorrect grip. I will always remember this tip when I'm hitting it wrong. I enjoy your teachings. Thank you.
I had some guy say I shouldn't talk about the negatives. Yeah right. If I explain why you shouldn't do something then maybe you won't do it and you will do it the right way. Glad you see it and like the understanding of it. I will just keep doing what I do. Can't please them all.
Today I was taking divots for the first time the way it should be done, the sound of the ball and nice square divot was well rewarding, these tips we get well come as we practice more. My short game was the best, chipping effortlessly is so much fun. I'm still amazed at how things work better when you're in control. I have a long ways to go but I can lower my score and keep my head high. Thank you Doc. Wilson, the very best!
After 2yrs of poor play & thousands videos I thought seriously bout quiting! After watching this video my game was back & enjoyable once again! A very big thank you to you 😁👍
Glad I could help! Sometimes you just need to see it a little differently. I try to explain things so people get it. If you get it you will try it and hopefully you will see some good shots. If so, you know you are on track and will keep doing it. Make it simple. Stay focused.
Paul I followed these tips when I played my last round on Monday and have to say I hit more good straight tee shots then I have hit in many rounds. My playing partner couldn’t believe how much my game had improved. I can confirm this little tip works and the results are beautiful.
Hit the best driver of my life at the range today feeling the full hinge at the top. You have to be willing to let go of control to truly let the momentum of the club work for you. Great to revisit this vid.
Very good. It is about the looseness of the hinge. This generated serious clubhead speed. How else do kids hit it a long way. They have minimal arm strength. Use the looseness of the hinge. Then attach this arm unit to your rotating body.
I've watched a plethora of golf instruction videos. This was one that I didn't think that would change my game so much but it did. After an in person video swing analysis, the instructor told me that my right hand opens at the top of if my swing. Taking that to the practice range and course didn't change a whole lot. Total inconsistency but still shot 94. After watching Paul's neutral grip videos and lastly, this one. He really promotes the neutral grip where, I always had a slightly strong grip with 3 knucks showing. The left hand is important, but who knew how important the right hand grip was as well. My right index finger now acts like a trigger to get acceleration through the ball and my swing speeds are now 106 -113 and my driver yardage is consistent with 267-276 yds and straight! When I took this new found ability to the irons, the very first strike with my 7 iron was 181 yds. Good God almighty! The best I've ever had was 140 yds from my 7i. Grip grip grip!!!! The basis of everything a good swing is. Thanks so much Paul, you've made my game so much more enjoyable.😊
Glad you found this one. It has literally helped thousands of people. Amazing how many people are doing this wrong which is really holding them back. Now you see the results I don't have to convince you to keep doing it. Great job. Big things to come for you in the future.
This lesson is pure Gold, great camera angle and explanation. One lesson has shown me where I was going wrong and fixed things easily . Awesome , Glenn in New Zealand
This video changed my game today. I have so much more awareness about the hinge point, I was weak there all the time, now I just pinch in the club pivots around nice and square! Thank you!
Very very important tip. I wasn't aware that I was making this mistake. Corrected it and today scored all time low, a 9 over course, single digit score!!! It made my swing smooth and release easier. I have downloaded most of your videos and watch them regularly. A big, big game changer for me.Thank you Sir.
Yes, this is super important and so many people do this wrong. Glad you found me and glad you are seeing results. Keep at it. This is a swing for life.
I’m brand new to hitting balls, confused how to address the ball, grip, etc. I’ve watched a bunch of YT vids, some good, some great and each day I find a better one. Today it was this video, went where others failed to go with camera angle. You must be a great coach!!
Glad you liked it. Thanks. I thought this angle would show it clearly plus it all starts with the grip. This means it's vital to a great swing. Try to master it and you are on your way to playing great golf. Great lesson, Paul. Wish I would have seen it when I first started playing golf! Seeing the view from “your eyes” really helped! I started making the change and today, I hit some great, smooth shots and nice distances! I know grip changes take a while, and I will be sticking with this one forever!
I WAS one of those with the thumb straight down the shaft! NO MORE . After seeing your video, I went out today and played using the grip you showed without any pratice ( course has no driving range). I not only gained 10 to 12 yards, but, my short irons flew higher and landed softer on the greens Thank you ( AGAIN ) Paul...BE WELL.
Paul, last year this tip was so good for my game. I went from hitting inconsistent irons and drives to winning a closest to the pin each week in my golf league. We have two a week and I won at least one a week the last 6 weeks of our league. I have always hit the ball far when driving, but this grip tip also added distance to my drives and kept them in the fairway better. I now have a great place to start this season as I live in the North East and we have a month or so before we start playing again. I'm looking forward to one of my best seasons so far. I can't thank you enough!!!
Very good. I can't believe how many people are not gripping properly. Kind of tells me that they are being taught wrong. Glad you are about to start. Go through all of the fundamentals again. You can never work on them enough.
@@paulwilsongolf I'm self taught and never learned the correct way to hold the club. Just did it my way and it worked until about 5-6 years ago. I went from almost scratch to a 8 hdcp. Playing 9 or 18 holes a week and never going to the Range. I'm very luck as it comes pretty natural to me. Thanks again for the great tips.
I just recently started golfing in June 2020 and due to living in Canada I was only able to golf until November. I've been soaking up as much golf technique videos as I can but this 1 video alone taught me so much about my grip and swing
I grew up there so I know the season. Just do daily practice swings at home. This is the best time to work on it because there is no ball. No ball means no hitting with the arms so you can make the changes then play great golf when you can get back out. Keep at it.
Absolutely the best advice you can give to any golfer is the proper grip and you do it so well. The correct grip and loose wrists will give you the best chance of hitting a good shot and who doesn't want that. Keep up the good advice Paul and thank you.
Glad you liked it. Thanks. It is truly mind boggling how bad grips are when it's all supposed to start with the grip. So obviously people aren't being taught properly or the person is not being told "why" they need to do it. This is literally the first thing I am working on and have worked on for 33 years.
This is the FIRST TIME I've ever HEARD THIS !! 99% of golf teachers tell you to LINE UP THE THUMBS so that's what I've always done . I'll try it YOUR WAY and see what happens ! All your tips are INVALUABLE ; you're the BEST golf teacher around as far as I'm concerned so anything you teach is ALWAYS worth trying !
Yes, you need to hold on and hold on tight. It's your wrist that are loose. Watch these: th-cam.com/video/GQmsOE7dRXs/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/Z8K3Gctkz7A/w-d-xo.html Thanks for the support. I appreciate it.
@@paulwilsongolf Just watched the vids you sent me [ MUCH appreciated by the way ] and I have a lot better idea about the correct pressure I should be putting [ and WHEN to put it ! ] on the grip . Thanks !
Hey, Paul! Just wanna say I tried the strong grip and holy crap! What a difference it made. Thank you for providing such great advice. I combine that with a recent video I saw about imagining a slanted nail behind the ball and wanting to hammer it down. Both of those combined sent my ball flying and straight! Thanks again!
So glad you are doing well. A lot of people are actually close to having a good swing and hitting great shots but they are just not quite doing something right. You are on track now. Stay focused and keep repeating what you are doing.
Paul, I’ve checked out stacks of videos in relation to where my thumbs should be and they just don’t explain properly. Not only to you SHOW where they should be, you explain why and show brilliant footage of same. THANK-YOU THANK-YOU!
Glad you liked it. Thanks. It all starts with the grip so kind of important people learn it right. Here is my other one: th-cam.com/video/jQZLp8bF-Ww/w-d-xo.html
man, i've heard everyone talk about the proper grip but this explains perfectly the WHY. thanks, can't wait to practice more like this as my thumb was definitely pushing away the club on my backswing.
Glad you found me. A lot of people do this and it is holding a lot of people back. This allows your wrists to loosen up and hinge properly. This should take your game to a whole new level.
Living in the uk, golf courses are very boggy and difficult to play. I tried this new group last week and it was amazing Again today, it was brilliant and certainly the single most important tip I have seen in a long time Cheers Paul
Fantastic! I did quit for 2 years so I know all about how frustrating it can be. Glad to have you back. It all starts with the grip so be sure to keep checking it. Watch this one too: th-cam.com/video/jQZLp8bF-Ww/w-d-xo.html
Mirroring what other have said: this is one if the best grip videos out there. Recording first-person, looking down, showing me what I need to be looking at is just brilliant. I can feel the difference at the top by changing my thumb location. 👍
Dear Paul, this tip is absolutely excellent. Ive done some testing on my simulator and i can say for certain this is the reason why some of my shots were drawing to soon/much in the ball flight since the face tends to close a bit to much during the downswing. This pinch technique is a perfect way to keep the release during the downswing as consistent as possible. Thank you! Dr. D
Went to the driving range after I watched this video. I don’t think any golf instructional has provided me with more instant improvement than this one. Thank you!
Great to hear! So many people do this wrong. Mind boggling when it all starts with the grip. Stay focused and this will make a big difference to your game.
The visuals on this video are spot on!....from day #1 i have had zero issues with supple wrists & hinging/unhinging the club and applying body swing method !...#1 reason because my grip is a carbon copy of his grip!....its hard to chose which video to tell people to watch who want new advice...but this is a good choice for #1!...lots of others too!
Just came across this video as I’m struggling to get my once very solid golf swing back. This golf tip and description of how to grip the club is the absolute best I’ve come across! Thanks so much Paul!
Paul so grateful for this. i grabbed club 34 years ago. i play good and played bad. not so stable. this will really help my game. i will try torrow :))
For sure. This is just such a huge piece of the swing. It is really holding so many people back. Tons of comments below of those who tried this and it made the world of difference. So glad you see it.
I worked on this grip all week, I took a lesson months ago. The instructor tried teaching me the same grip, but I had given up on it. Anyway I also watched the video on using your lower body to swing the club. The same instructor tried showing me this which I had also given up on. Well it all came together on the course. I did the grip and let my lower body do the work for me. I shot a 37 on a narrow 9 hole course today. I have a slight pause at the top, just to get my lower body moving. That grip helped a lot , I have very strong hands and that question mark on the right hand relieved some of the tightness. Thx Paul
Absolutely agree. This is what I came here to comment about and discovered just like you have. Using the proper grip pressure and placement with the right hand FORCES use of the lower body to get the club around - and on the correct plane. Not to mention the lag it creates. Great stuff. Thanks, Paul.
Nice one. You just needed to hear it a different way. Your hands and wrists are not hands and wrists. They are a hinge. See it that way and no matter how uncomfortable it is you will do it.
@@John-wx9oy You mentioned lag that same instructor told to come me to come back when I got the lower body movement down. Then he will show me the lag part
This was such a great video to show the importance of that right-hand index finger but equally important, the POV camera angle. For the first time I can see from my perspective exactly what the grip should like. Thanks so much.
Glad you liked it! This has helped thousands of people. Mind boggling how many people don't have the right grip especially when it all starts with the grip.
Funny you should bring this up now. Just last Wednesday on the course, I suddenly realized there was a problem with my right hand grip not allowing me to hinge properly. Kept trying to adjust the grip but everything I tried felt clumsy, and now here you are! Thanks so much.
I have been in search of grip instruction that augments Hogan's lesson in his book the 5 Lesson's. I have had lessons down through the years and no one has ever focused on my grip yet I have never been satisfied not one day with my grip. You and that awesome Go Pro camera view are answered prayer. Stroke of genius. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Paul, you have done it again. This subtle detail of the trail hand has totally changed things. My spread is much, much narrower and it definitely added a bit of length, ease of swing and wrist hinge. Not to mention really locking the club into my hands. Thanks a lot Paul!
This tip from Paul totally changed my game. Went from 225 yd. Drives to 260 to 270 in one day. Amazing. The pistol grip and the hinge at the top was the golden ticket. The arm swing with a weak slice went away. Never dreamed I could draw the ball now. I went for a new driver fitting last week and was totally disappointed. With that old arms only swing, my old driver hit farther than any of the new stuff. The fitter told me I didn't need a new driver. I needed lessons. He was right. Well I don't need a new driver now. No longer do I need to set the weights in my M3 all the way back and to draw setting. Now they are all the way forward and hitting bombs. I've watched many many instruction videos and by far Paul Wilson's body swing and especially this tip changed everything. I'm moving back a tee box next week.
It was just a simple thing. Simple. After a bucket of 100 balls it all came together. I wish I didn't have to work or I'd be doing it everyday. All day. Golf is now so fun again.
So glad you found me and tried. So many people have this thumb down the grip which locks the wrists. You need the wrists to get power as you just found out. Great feeling when you get it. Keep at it.
@@paulwilsongolf yes. I've been practicing your tips for awhile now. But the body swing never felt right. I was trying to fire my hips and legs more and not use my arms. I thought I was just not flexible enough to do it. Gave up. Until the grip video. Then I found the wrist action and how you were doing it. The backswing became effortless. The thumb was in the way the whole time.
Glad you found the missing piece. It's like a puzzle. Need to put the pieces together to see the picture. Keep at it. Good things to come for you this season.
This has been haunting me unknowingly, wrecking my swing. I just realized the other night why my golf swing sucked! I learned the proper way a while back from this video, but bad habits die unbelievably hard! My old ways crept in slowly and plagued my mind unconsciously, methodically eating my golf intelligence one molecule at a time until i was paralyzed. Thank you Paul for being there in times of brokenness and despair.
I have been training through GOLFTEC and many other different means of training , but no one has ever explained the grip problem and solution with this detailed level of clarity. This is awesome 👍. Will try this at the range soon.
I know others have said it but a little extra love never hurts. Going into the First Person POV camera angle was huge for my understanding of a proper grip as well as what I was doing incorrectly in mine. It also reminded.me that golf (I come from a hockey background) seems to have no “big” moves. The weak vs strong adjustment is a change of centimeters. Too often I find myself over correcting and this was a great reminder of that as well. Thanks for the content Mr. Wilson!
Great lesson sir----I use to have that grip then changed to uses the thumbs. Lost 40 % of power and almost gave up golf. Went back to a better grip and things are working for me again. Looking forward to looking up your chipping tips if given. Much thanks.
I really enjoy the way you share the information about the golf swing. I was doing most of these things up until the last couple of years and started to tinker with my swing. I was a +1.5 golfer and hitting the ball constantly straight and fairly long. Until I tried to make it even longer. I began to try and hit the ball harder as you describe sometimes. Before I was just simply swinging relaxed and swinging through impact. I had slowly increased to a stronger grip instead of my old grip which is the grip you promote. I have gone back to what was working after coming across you videos and after changing my grip back to the old grip I had when I was playing solid golf. Thanks for the simple manner you use to explain the swing. A light came on literally after just a couple of swings on the range after your video on the grip! Love the videos. Thanks Kerry
I fell down the distance rabbit hole too. Not fun. Need to be content with what you've got. Long and straight is all you need. So anywhere around 270 - 300 down the middle. More is fun but it will get you in trouble.
Great tip! Steve Elkington said in his book that his instructor, “Alex Mercer had me walk around for a week with my thumbs never leaving the sides of the forefingers. I’d even pick coins out of my pockets with my thumbs and forefingers fused together....Glue your thumb and forefinger together on both hands to keep your grip from slipping and to make your hands work as a unit.”
Love that! This is vital in a great grip. I can have people do it and 5 mins later they let it come apart. It all starts with the grip. Needs to be perfect every time.
Thanks so much. This tip has literally helped hundreds if not thousands of people. Mind boggling how many people have that thumb down the club. This is really hampering people's wrist hinge. Glad you see it and will be working on it. This is game changing.
Finally achieved the grip that you see at 3:25. This grip with more firm hold on club is making a significant difference in power and more consistent center-of-face contact. My grip was too loose before. Baby bird was flying away. (paraphrase, Sam Snead).
Well, it all starts with the grip. Make sure you are holding on with loose wrists though. It's not holding a baby bird throughout the swing. Watch: th-cam.com/video/Z8K3Gctkz7A/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/GQmsOE7dRXs/w-d-xo.html
This is probably the best golf tip I have ever received. As soon Paul explained the compression on the right thumb on the backswing realised that was the cause of my casting and over the top swing. Creating the v on the right hand to cradle the club makes a massive difference, and allows me to stop casting the club at the top and release the club much much later in the downswing. I tried it out at the range today and was hitting sweet draws and straight shots after 6 or 7 shots. I cannot believe what a big difference in ball flight it makes and allows me to address the ball in a more relaxed manner and also helps with a smoother and proper take away. Thank you Paul for this simple but crucial insight into the grip. I cannot wait to hit the course this weekend.
That's great. Sometimes it's just that one thing that makes all the difference. This was a big difference. Glad you found it. Get ready for some great golf in the future.
Wow! Even without a club in my hand, if I mimic the cradle hand position you show, my wrist has more mobility than my previous position! Can’t wait to hit the range with this. Thank you!
Lost my swing when I got this set of new clubs, had not been able to get ahold of it like I used to then I watched this video, practiced it at the range, and then played that day and had fun again. Was hitting the irons and hitting some greens and even had some people say that was the shot they had ever seen. Anyway i want to thank you so much for helping me reclaim my iron swing again, this was the exact problem.
Getting new clubs can psych you out. Been there. Glad you found me though and are now back on track. Great feeling when others comment on your great shots. Keep at it.
This vid solved a lot of my problems. Have not been playing golf much in the past few years because of an arthritic left thumb, which was probably caused by casting golf clubs for over 50 years. Have been practicing with a soft grip pressure and using the right hand “v” you talk about in this video. When I feel pressure in the v at the top of the backswing I use this trigger my lower body to shift and rotate. Before I would use the pressure in my left thumb to start the downswing with an over the top move. An earlier video was also helpful in starting the downswing with your lower body - the one were you laid the club on your shoulders at the top of the swing. This is a great warm up drill. So far so good: hitting my mid to short irons as far as I did 20 years ago and my left thumb is not barking at me after practice!
Paul, I have to say I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I happened to come across your video the other day and I thought I would give it a go yesterday. I was totally surprised by the results. I had more distance and was hitting the ball better than previously. What a game changer. Many thanks. John UK
Glad you found me and tried it. This is helping a ton of people. Amazing how many people are not doing the right grip yet "it all starts with the grip." Please keep doing this. If you get those wrists working it is, like you said, a game changer.
I am almost 70 and have been playing far too long for a sane person. Anyway, I tried this tip yesterday. I struggled for a few holes, but then the magic started and I parred 11 straight holes. Only second par nine in 10 years. My buddy said he had never seen me hit the ball so crisply and straight. Thanks, Paul!
Wow! That's great. This little thing was holding you back. Please keep checking this into the future. Get those wrists working and it's a whole new ball game.
I've monkeyed around with my right hand position for a long time. This was the best and only explanation of why it should be as you explained. I've seen dozens of tips encouraging both V's should point towards your rear shoulder, but never why. Thank you.
I watched this two years ago and it was helpful then. Your videos are also worth revisiting, Paul, as I did today after a not-great ball striking round yesterday. I think that I have been opening the gap between my right thumb and forefinger too much, allowing the club to drop into that "gap". Evidence.... there is callusing and irritation along the thumb side of my forefinger and on the side of my thumb knuckle, mostly after bad rounds. Closing the vee there seems to be key to preventing that. Hogan's book, Five Lessons even has an illustration calling for "pressure" or pressing the right thumb and forefinger together, as you do at 5:16. It's easy to forget things. Thanks again. You are helping me whittle my handicap down, even in the off season up here in the PNW.
Hard to believe I've managed to get down to an 8 hcap over the last 20 years doing exactly what you showed in the video Paul! Have always felt something wrong at the top of the swing and never felt consistent on the outcome. Excited to start giving this a go! Thanks, your videos are top class pal.
Thanks so much. This will make a huge difference giving you way more power with less effort. Great feeling when you can do that. Now it's time to get down to a 4hdcp this season.
I changed up two things today at the golf course based on your instruction…1. My grip 2. Easy swing. Without even practicing these things on the driving range first, I immediately changed my game the day after watching your videos. My drives were coming up about 15 yards shorter than those one or two long drives per game but I only missed the fairway one time! I’m a 20 handicap and today I had my best game ever at 15 over with an 85. The more consistent I got the easier it was not to try and kill the ball. Looking forward to practicing more and watching more of your videos. Thank you!
So glad you found me and started to make some changes. Great that's it's paying off so fast. Exciting times ahead. Stick to what you are doing as you learn it and let it take hold. The distance will come in the future as you gain more confidence. I love this line "The more consistent I got the easier it was not to try and kill the ball." I might have to use that one in the future. Keep up the good work.
Bingo. I've been struggling with having my right hand feel wobbly at the top of the backswing. I was constantly regripping. This tip is the cure I needed.
Yes, and you are a master of pointing out each piece, no matter how subtle, but all important.
paul thanks u r too good
The golf swing is indeed a puzzle, and the pieces if viewed to soon dont seem to fit.
I’ve been gripping like he said not to for so many years!!!
Thanks for the support. I appreciate it. Glad you are doing well. Great feeling when you are hitting it longer and taking your buddies money!
The best video I’ve ever seen to improve my game. Believe me I’m between a scratch and 2 handicap
And I’ve improved so much my whole swing
This is a big one for sure. It has helped so many people which tells me that so many people are not doing the grip properly. Stay focused on this into the future. Let's get you to a plus hdcp.
Your absolutely right, when we loose our groove just go back to the basics and chances are it's going to be in your grip, it's happened to me a time or two 👍🤪🇺🇲
For sure. It all starts with the grip but few do the right grip. Glad you see that. Keep checking it into the future.
This is got to be one of the best videos to explain the golf grip and what the club actually does when it's in your hands!!!! This was a game changer in my golf swing because it gave me a feeling that I've always been searching for in my golf swing!! No one ever explained the grip like this and it makes complete sense of whatever one else has been telling you at the start of your swing but never at the top of your swing.. thanks!!!
Thanks so much. This one has helped hundreds if not thousands of people. It gets the wrists unlocked. Please keep at it.
Oh man Thank you. I’ve been having so many issues feeling like I’m losing my grip on my back swing and the ? Mark grip has totally changed that. Headed to the range now. 👏
Very good. Give it a try. This has helped so many people get their hinge (wrists) loosened up.
I've always struggled with loosing the club at the top of the back swing and being able to set the club. Thank you Paul.
Glad you found this tip. Stay focused on it. This will help you immensely.
Best grip video I have ever seen. The camera angle was unique and really augmented the brilliantly clear explanation. Thanks!
Wow, thanks!
Great observation and super helpful hint. Can't wait to try it out later on the range. Make clear sense. Thank you!!!
Agree, looks great.Haven't seen a Good Grip Presentation ,EVER!. Have to try it out today at the range to see how it goes! I've done 2 of the 3 things he mentions. One is having shaft tooo deep down my thumb and forefinger and also squeezing
the club too tightly with those fingers rather than letting the club just REST in the Question Mark!! Sal P
As I get older my knuckles will get sorer and there fore loosen the problem of squeezing to much. 🏌️♀️
Great instructions!! Thanks
cradling the handle in the V and not the thumb at the top of swing, after 20 years i finally get it. so much easier to stay behind the ball and not early release it now.
Glad you liked it. I am just thinking of ways you can actually see what I am doing.
The logic of proper grip has been mentioned. And thats perfectly true!
Absolutely! Showing this from the point of view of the student is game changer
Same. I needed this today.
I have just made this adjustment today following your advice, and the results have been instant. Much much better and stronger grip, allowing my wrist to break at the top of my swing. It's made such a big difference, thank you man!
Great job!
So much more instructive when you have the players view of the grip in use.
For sure. I thought people would like these POV tips. Here are all of the ones I have:

Paul, You are a true Ambassador in Golf. As soon as I switch my grip similar to yours I immediately feel the correct feedback in hinging the wrist during up swing. Follow through during downswing as you demonstrated on your other video totally helped as well. Im aiming to break 80 on my next round.
Thanks so much. This is a small thing that has a huge effect on your wrist hinge. Keep at it and breaking 80 will be easy.
If I can do it you can do it and as you see this swing will never hurt:
th-cam.com/video/Q_LW7nm4ssk/w-d-xo.html
Very good. It loosened your wrists so you are now releasing the club. Getting rid of that slice is a game changer for sure. Keep at it.
Great job! You are heading in the right direction. Thank you for the promo to others. I appreciate it.
I am a senior 77. This is the best video of grip explained I have seen on internet! well explained Paul! Thank you
Glad it was helpful! I appreciate it. This is just such a huge problem for most people.
Best grip video I’ve seen. And I’ve watched a lot of them.
Thanks. I appreciate it.
Thanks Paul you're the best
I had to tell ya that I tried your grip today and it works. Been struggling to hit it 180 and now I'm hitting it 200.
Thank you for your great tip.
Very good. The grip is vital. Too many people just gripping it any way never checking it. As you see this can have a huge impact on your swing.
@@paulwilsongolf Oh, and I'm a young 84-year-old guy.
Best online teacher ever!!! I am from Argentina and I have been playing golf since 1989. I am 43. You are so right in everything you teach. Thanks for all Paul!
Wow, thanks
If you’re an amateur golfer looking to improve this is the best teacher hands down. The results are as clear as the instruction.
Thanks so much. I try to explain it so people understand it and actually do it.
This was huge. I always felt like my irons were loose at the top of my swing. I always had a straight thumb on grip. Great video 💪
Glad you found it. This has really helped a lot of people.
Great job! You have to be close to be playing some great golf.
Glad you tried it and are seeing results. Sometimes it's the small things that make a huge difference.
Paul, thank you. I have never heard that explanation for the "lower" hand grip before. I can't wait to try it out. It's all about the basics.
Yes, this hand is vital especially if this is your stronger hand. Need to weaken it so you are not hitting with it.
Thank you Paul. 67 years old and I'm now cranking out 280+ on the driver. Simply Amazing.
Wow! That's great. It's all about technique. Your playing partners must be scratching their heads.
Thanks , this might be the biggest tip ever, I reduced my previous game gross by 8 shots! It works even for your putting. Great instruction
Good stuff! I love hearing it.
Incredible how such a little difference can improve your swing
It sure can. This is a big one that few ever think about.
This lesson is pure Gold, great camera angle and explanation. One lesson has shown me where I was going wrong and fixed things easily . Awesome , Glenn in New Zealand
Glad it helped!
Top teacher on the web, or anywhere. Took my game to another level. Listen to this guy!!!
Thanks. I appreciate it.
You’re awesome Paul. One of the best instructors I’ve seen. 👍
Wow, thanks. I appreciate it.
This video changed my game today. I have so much more awareness about the hinge point, I was weak there all the time, now I just pinch in the club pivots around nice and square! Thank you!
Glad you found it and worked on it. So many people do this wrong. Stay focused and keep checking this into the future.
Wow, I've had problems with my grip for years, this answers so many questions. Many Thanks
Glad it helped!
Keep at it. This is a swing for life.
i swear to God i gone from kindergarten to a bachelors degree watching this channel. working my way to a Phd. Thank you Paul !
Good one. 29 years of standing there asking why the answers come to you. I'm going to save you 28 years.
Me to. Only GED to PHD.
Follow these ones too:

Great lesson, Paul. Wish I would have seen it when I first started playing golf! Seeing the view from “your eyes” really helped! I started making the change and today, I hit some great, smooth shots and nice distances! I know grip changes take a while, and I will be sticking with this one forever!
Glad it was helpful!
I WAS one of those with the thumb straight down the shaft! NO MORE .
After seeing your video, I went out today and played using the grip you showed without any pratice ( course has no driving range).
I not only gained 10 to 12 yards, but, my short irons flew higher and landed softer on the greens
Thank you ( AGAIN ) Paul...BE WELL.
That's great. Glad you caught it. More distance is good news.
What an eye opener ! Great tip Paul. What stuck in a simplistic way was the “?” Grip 👏
Glad you liked it. The ? is a huge key. Glad you see it.
Great tip Paul I practice this every nite while I’m watching tv to get use to it thanks for all you do
Thanks. Home is the best place to practice. Glad you are going to do it. You will get the grip in no time.
Keep at it.
No one has ever explained the grip like this...this is what I’ve been missing.
Glad you found it. This is a big for getting the wrists to hinge properly. Give it a try.
I was just going to come on and say that !
well, I just sorta did :)
I've tried, it's so true !! Thank you Paul !
Glad you tried it. Thanks.

@@paulwilsongolf Just watched the vids you sent me [ MUCH appreciated by the way ] and I have a lot better idea about the correct pressure I should be putting [ and WHEN to put it ! ] on the grip . Thanks !
Paul! I love watching your videos, this is a great tip like them all!
I appreciate that!
Glad it was helpful! This tip has helped tons of people. This gets your wrists working. Stick with it and you will see a huge improvement.
After 40 odd years of playing inconsistent golf I think you have highlighted what my big problem has been all along. A big thanks.
So glad you tried it and saw results. This is a big one and many others are getting results too. Something so small makes a huge difference.
I did this grip today, I will say it worked. I was more consistent with hitting my irons straight and striking the club better. Im glad I watched.
Very good. A lot of people are benefitting from this tip. This is big.
You have literally saved me from quitting golf today! Five months of struggles, sorted in 11 minutes, thx so much!
Glad you enjoyed it! Many people getting a dramatic result once they get that thumb off the top. Let us know how you do.
@@paulwilsongolf Follow up question for you: What about grip pressure? How firmly (or not firmly?) should I be holding the club?
Here you go: th-cam.com/video/GQmsOE7dRXs/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/Z8K3Gctkz7A/w-d-xo.html
Thank you!
Dr. D
Glad you liked this one. It has help tons of people. Amazing how many people are not doing the grip when "it all starts with the grip."
IT'S A MIRACLE CURE - I had no idea my grip was so wrong - took 10 strokes off my game today - THANK YOU
Now that's a nice drop in score. Good job!
Well that is a good one but I would have them watch my neutral grip video here:
th-cam.com/video/jQZLp8bF-Ww/w-d-xo.html
Just came across this video as I’m struggling to get my once very solid golf swing back. This golf tip and description of how to grip the club is the absolute best I’ve come across! Thanks so much Paul!
Glad you liked it. Thanks. Got to set that club precisely at the top if you want to be consistent. Let me know if you have other issues.
Paul explains the “why” of any issue and that is phenomenal for me. Now if I have an issue I go to his videos and I am able to correct my issue.
Very good. This is what I want to hear. You need to do this stuff without me.
@@paulwilsongolf and subscribed :))
Nice. Timing is everything. Now you know the position.
Glad you liked it. These tips are great. Seeing it really understand what you should be doing.
Paul, you have done it again. This subtle detail of the trail hand has totally changed things. My spread is much, much narrower and it definitely added a bit of length, ease of swing and wrist hinge. Not to mention really locking the club into my hands.
Thanks a lot Paul!
Glad it was helpful!
@@paulwilsongolf One benefit of it is that if you do toe hit the ball the grip tightens itself up and is a lot less wild....pretty neat
Glad you went back to it. It is easy to loose the grip for sure. Stay focused and always check your grip on every shot forever.
I have been training through GOLFTEC and many other different means of training , but no one has ever explained the grip problem and solution with this detailed level of clarity. This is awesome 👍. Will try this at the range soon.
Thank you very much. Glad you liked it.
Wilson!
You're welcome. Here is another one to help you get the placement:
th-cam.com/video/jQZLp8bF-Ww/w-d-xo.html
Great lesson sir----I use to have that grip then changed to uses the thumbs. Lost 40 % of power and almost gave up golf. Went back to a better grip and things are working for me again. Looking forward to looking up your chipping tips if given. Much thanks.
Glad you liked it. It all stars with the grip. Glad you caught it. I have a few chipping tips. I may do more short game tips in the future.
Unbelievable how much this helped me, from a large draw to a controllable fade with this small adjustment of my grip. Thanks
Very good. Glad you found this one. It's going to dramatically change your game.
Its 8pm and i just watched this. Ive been holding the club all wrong. Cant wait to go golfing and try this out. Thank you
This is helping a ton of people get their wrists working. Do that and your game will serious change.
What a brilliant video. Thanks for sound logic and easy to understand instruction.
Glad it was helpful! This tip has helped so many people.
The best explanation of the grip I’ve ever seen.
@@paulwilsongolf Yes. Absolutely, loose wrists.
Tried this and had the best round in a competition in over three years,15 handicapper and had 39 points.
Great video thanks.
Nice work! I love hearing it.
I've seen about 50 other videos and this one makes the most sense for my brain to comprehend. Thanks very informative 👍
Glad it was helpful! Simple is the key. This is how I have always explained things.
Wow! Even without a club in my hand, if I mimic the cradle hand position you show, my wrist has more mobility than my previous position! Can’t wait to hit the range with this. Thank you!
Very good. Glad you tried it. That is the feeling you want. You should feel like you have way more power once you get the wrists hinging.
*best shot
Very good. Great feeling when you start getting your swing back. Keep at it.
Thank you.
Glad it helped!
Thanks Paul, will keep you posted
Have a great 2021
I changed up two things today at the golf course based on your instruction…1. My grip 2.
Best explanation so far.
Glad you liked it. Thanks.
Bingo. I've been struggling with having my right hand feel wobbly at the top of the backswing. I was constantly regripping.
This tip is the cure I needed.
Glad you found this one. This is vital in setting the top of the backswing. Keep at it. You will see a huge difference.
