The Porsche 992 S is just 2 seconds slower than the C8 Stingray at the famous Nürburgring. It's about 3 seconds slower on any drag strip. The 992 without the S is still on the drag strip and road course. It cost $40,000 more and can't get close to the performance metric of the base Stingray. I'm sure there are many fanboys willing to pay extra for an uninspiring, underperforming performance car sold at a premium that looks like an upside-down wheel barrel.

In fact ever time I've used it, it startles me. People talk about the Z06 being amazing, and maybe one day I'll get to see for myself. But for now, my Z51 does everything I need from a performance car. And it fits my golf clubs easily in the trunk, another reason I chose it (and my other Corvettes) over any other sport car in my price range, which in this case was about $98k with tax and delivery.

Nice test however: Even two years ago the base 992 base price was $30K more and the options were about 50% more so no you wrong typical base 992's were on average $40K more that a comparable C8 Corvette.
@@aaronoliver2235 I used to think they where muscle also. Someone corrected me in the fact that the Vette has been a sports car al its life. But I thought it was considered american muscle.
There's an additional cupholder that pops out near right side of dash inside the 911. The 911 is actually a rear engine vice mid-engine car. Couldn't help watch the smile on your face driving the 911. After 4 Vettes and many other sports cars, I finally decided to test drive a 911. Left with one and won't be going back. It is truly something that must be experienced. And this from a true blue, red blooded, USAF-retired guy who tries to buy American.
The C8 cannot be beat, and it was already tested by Grip magazine against the Carrera S. A 3LT C8 is equivalent to a 148,000 dollar Carrera S in options. The performance on track is so close that its driver determined. Sport Auto had the C8 slower than the Carrera S and Audi R8, but not in track alignment. The German magazine picked the C8 over the Carrera S FOR A EVERDAY CAR.
This is a well-done comparison, unbiased and factual. Since Corvette used the 911 as a benchmark, this proves up that they did a great job with that effort. Now, if I can just find a Porsche owner willing to trade for my Z51 C8 for an hour….
The price comparison isn't really accurate. My 2lt 2021 z51 was 78k and comes with more than everything you need and puts it well below the 911 starting price. For the money, you really can' beat the vettes performance. If you lime German engineering, there's nothing better than Porsche.
Good comparison they both handle well and are fast because they're light my Mercedes is a supercharged 4 cyl and fast because it's so light only has 189 hp 192 ft-lbs of torque but it launches so hard
I think Chevy did a great job on the C8 - but it just looks too busy, with that trying too hard look and is definitely a let down from the back - just looks kinda cheap. They could have done better IMO.
Do this when you get a chance s green shot a red corvette with the red spoiler..then screen shot a red corvette with the black spoiler..then put these photos side by side you will find that the matching color tricks the eyes and makes the rear look to busy while the black spoiler splits up the rear and helps redefine the lines of the car as they were attended to look..You will be amazed at the difference the rear end looks by doing this...Also to not the Z06 vet will have quad exhaust in the center which will look a lot better than those quad exhaust.
Great comparison review! I am totally onboard for my 2022 C8! However, I have not had the benefit of exposure to a Porsche at any level. It’s tough to judge any vehicle unless a person has had the opportunity to be behind the wheel. Some day, I hope to get into a Turbo S and see what I’ve been missing!
@RacerX I know this video is older and you probably know this by now, but it amazes me how many auto reviewers miss finding the second cupholder in the 992. It's in the lower part of the dash to the right of the passenger, you can see the outline of the rectangle when it's closed.
I have had both the C8 stingray and the 911 GTS 992. The corvette C8 is very flashy and a beautiful looking car, but it always felt cheaply made, especially for the interior. The infotainment system was not as responsive as the 911 software, and the resale was horrible. I purchased the C8 stingray for around $87 k Canadian and sold it very a little more a few months later. Fast forward 1-2 years and you can get a 2022 C8 stingray for as low as $70 k Canadian. The corvette is everywhere now and is mass produced, whereas the 911 is much more exclusive and not as mass produced (not including the base model). Fast forward to when I bought the 992 GTS. Wow. Just wow. Nothing about this car felt cheap, the interior was as beautifully made and designed as the exterior, and my god is it ever fast. Porsche was able to squeeze maximum power from their flat 6 twin turbo engine, the handling is like no other, and the resale is superb. The 911 was a much nicer daily drive as well.
I love the 911 targa GTS 4 is twinturbo with electric targa roof. For now I stay with my 2015 Cayenne turbo is not fast like the 911 but still has 500HP V8 twinturbo.
Aw, BS! The price is not even close. Yes, there are mark-ups on the Vette right now, but ONLY for cars already in the showroom and available no. If you order your car and are willing to wait, you pay MSRP (or maybe a minor mark-up). Porsche options are ridiculously priced, too. Stop comparing apples to oranges. Besides, you can drive top-down in the Vette (even the Coupe). I like that.
Lol.. the Porsche dynos at something like, "414 hp (308 kW) and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque at the wheels", via Motor Tend, "...when you do the math backward, starting with the dyno numbers and compensating for the 15-percent drivetrain loss, the Carrera S makes 487 hp (363 kW) and 478 lb-ft (648 Nm) of torque at the crank. That's 44 hp (32 kW) and 88 lb-ft (119 Nm) more than Porsche's official numbers." :D
Carrera s Dino’s at 414, not the base model. Don’t assume a rear engine sitting behind the axle is losing 15% to drivetrain. At most, it is losing 10% or under. Which makes the S model deliver above the stated hp by 20 hp.
1--You can't get either car at sticker, so don't pretend it's a C8 thing. 2--The interior of the 911 is 27+ years old, it looks, and feels like it. 3--The C8 digital display will take more time to learn completely. 4--Corvette rear view is so much better it deserves to be talked about?. 5--The Corvette chassis is near perfect, only the spyder is needed. 6--This list could maybe go into triple digits.
I had a 911 C2 2019 year with 420HP and manual shift before taking delivery of a C8 with the Z51 package. There is no comparison- the Vette beats the Porsche in every category. The Corvette handles better, feels more solid, more fun to drive, and is worlds quicker in acceleration. I could never go back to a Porsche and loose that massive feeling of thrust when going full throttle. It would take paying a price of $250k or more for a 911 Turbo S to get a Porsche that would come slightly close to the feel a $90K Corvette would produce.
Interesting how often you mention the 911 during the 'Vette portion of your review :) Also, with only 34 miles on the clock, the 'Vette's operating at a 4500 RPM redline, rather than the full 6500 it has once it passes the 500 mile break-in. It is noticeably quicker when it can use all the revs. As others have noted, the 911's rear engine while the 'Vette is mid engine. And the knob is the mode control, not the transmission. You kind of touched on it, but it's probably worth noting that cost wise that base 911 costs considerably more than a heavily optioned C8. According to the Porsche site, the base 911 Carrera starts at $101K, while an optioned up (3LT, Z51, Magride, Lift, Appearance Package and painted brakes as shown on your tester) is a bit over $84K. It's possible to push a C8 over $100K if you have a convertible and check every box, but it takes work.
But their is no substitute for a Porsche 911 - compare the value in 10 years. They will build 40,000 vettes in 2022 and 5,000 911’s. One is a fake Ferrari and the other is never equaled or copied.
@@atlasrex - So, you're a Porsche fanboy. Got it. All good. I mean, your comment has no bearing on what I said, other then maybe an excuse for focusing on the 911 during the 'Vette portion of the video. But hey, it's cool. As for there being "no substitute" for the 911, that's true, assuming I want a rear engine car that has carried basically the same style for 40 years. Value in 10 years? Let's see. You pull production numbers out of thin air (seriously, a bit over 20K Corvette's in 2020 and a bit over 26K in 2021 compared to just shy of 27K 911's in 2021) to what, justify some investor thing? Seriously. If you want to park it as an investment, get something else. 911's and Corvette's are built to be driven. As for used prices, let's look at history and see the 911 (base Carerra) sold for $77,800 in 2011 and is worth about $40K now, while the 'Vette (coupe) was 49K in 2011 and sells for about 20K now. Which means the 911 lost about 38K in 10 years while the 'Vette lost about 29K. That's not even factoring in the fact that this comparison video was between a base 911 and an optioned up Stingray. That's an important point, since a BASE 911 is about $20K more than a heavily optioned Coupe and it's easy to push a 911's price far, far, past that. Last time I priced one, I was looking at about twice the price of an HTC 'Vette with all the options. When the Z06 comes out, the cost of a 911 that can play on the same track will be comically higher. Let's not talk about maintenance costs, ok? Neither is a "Fake Ferrari" - that's just being rude. Or . . . maybe you're calling the 911 a fake Ferrari, while the Stingray has never been equaled or copied? Just kidding, mate. I know how much you love the hyper-beetle that is the 911. But seriously. The 911 is a fine car. But the 'Vett delivers more performance at a way better price point, and won't break the bank keeping it running. Are the appointments in the Porsche better? A bit, yeah. But you pay a fragload more for it.
@@atlasrex There is "no substitute for a Porsche"? Maybe not for those of you who live in Porsche fanboy land. But in the rest of us who live in the actual world there are many other prefered and very desirable car choices. 😂🤣😂
Thx for your effort. Was a good review in general. However would like to have more precise statements for example the porsche has two cup holders and not only one. Also when you talk about break calipers you can't say big and small, you need to mention the actual size... overall nice and a thank you is due...
The fairest comparison are two cars with identical power-to-weight ratios. Thus, since they weigh the same, the Porsche 992 Carrera GTS at 473HP would be the one. I'm a Porsche fanatic and believe the content of your comparison is novel. A Porsche enthusiast might look for options never available on the Corvette and don't mind paying for them. Ceramic brakes, centerlock wheels, carbon fiber roof, dynamic chassis control, rear wheel steering, front axle lift system, night vision, etc. To each his/her own at the end of the day.
I mean yeah they can, I think that it's a funny comparison because a base 911 is going too be comparable to the c8 zr1 when it comes out, the z06 is even way less expensive, and that's with basically no options, if you're comparing a base 911 with options or maybe a carrera 4s then we're talking about a z8 zora lol
The Porsche is actually a rear engine car where the Corvette is Mid Engine if you lift them both you will see what I'm talking about

Nice test however: Even two years ago the base 992 base price was $30K more and the options were about 50% more so no you wrong typical base 992's were on average $40K more that a comparable C8 Corvette.
Nothing like a Porsche. It's a different driving experience than muscle cars.
Corvette is not a muscle car & never was
@@creolecajun9988 How come?
Nothing like Porsche fans who think Corvettes are “muscle cars”
@@aaronoliver2235 I used to think they where muscle also. Someone corrected me in the fact that the Vette has been a sports car al its life.
But I thought it was considered american muscle.
@@JV8901 It's all good homie. Long ago, I got bashed for calling vettes supercars. Lol I guess it's all subjective.
Incredibly fair comparioson. (I am a porsche owner).
I have a 911. A corvette just can’t compare.
Maybe while it’s new and fresh, it may appear to be a Challanger… But it’s just not
There's an additional cupholder that pops out near right side of dash inside the 911.
2:44 the 911 is rear engined , not mid . I tot that was common knowledge
I bought a2022 c8 rather a vette all day
vette for sure
both are awesome cars - cant go wrong either way
Front brakes on the Corvette are now smaller in front and larger in the rear, because the engine is in the rear.
Great video, love these
I think Chevy did a great job on the C8 - but it just looks too busy, with that trying too hard look and is definitely a let down from the back - just looks kinda cheap.
It is cheap.
I agree.
Stop saying mid engine. The 992 is rear engine not mid engine. Price wise the 992 is way more money once you add a few options.
Cupholder within the dash maybe? Ejects to the side of the center display?
Great comparison review!
I am totally onboard for my 2022 C8!
However, I have not had the benefit of exposure to a Porsche at any level.
It’s tough to judge any vehicle unless a person has had the opportunity to be behind the wheel.
Some day, I hope to get into a Turbo S and see what I’ve been missing!
I have had a few Corvettes, have 2 Porsches now. If you want refinement get the Porsche.
I like how he points out the corvettes engine block is aluminum. 😂 You don’t say? Who’s still making iron blocks for a sports car these days🤣?
Dodge 😂😂😂
Great comparison brother! The C8 will be my next car!
I want both, but I can only
afford 1, so which one do I go for?
@RacerX I know this video is older and you probably know this by now, but it amazes me how many auto reviewers miss finding the second cupholder in the 992. It's in the lower part of the dash to the right of the passenger, you can see the outline of the rectangle when it's closed.
Not sure if they still do but Porsche on certain models use to have passenger cup holders pop out by glovebox
Great video i like these comparison vids, Congrats on 100,00 subs !!!!
First-time viewer. Great info. Thanks.
Can you do a Porsche Cayman base 2017 or up
The corvette C8 z06 will destroy everyone
It’s going to be a beast
@@RacerX9 what do u predict the 0-60 time will be. I’m guessing 2.6. That would be sick
Nice comparison!
It was not the first MID-ENGINE CORVETTE made there where at least 2 prototypes but this was the FIRST too go into production
I think a C8 ZR1 vs new Gen GT3 RS comparison will come in the future.
I actually think the Z06 will match up nicely with the GT3 RS 👍
@@RacerX9 You made that statement over a year ago and it seems that you were right. How did you know or was it a good guess?
Nice job thanks!
Base price of the Corvette is 66,000...Base price of the Porsche 911 is 106,000....40,000 more than the Vette.....look it up!!!!!
No need to look it up. Everyone is well aware the Porsche 911 cost more than the Corvette.
@@ronretired282 Stupid is as stupid does....
The Porsche is not Mid engine
Doesn’t the porche have two cup holders? The second cup holder comes out of the trim by the glove box. I think it is standard but I am not sure.
I agree, the PDK is really good as well as the Corvette’s DCT
Both are really solid
The Vette is 3LT with GT1 seats? Interesting because 3LT trim comes with GT2 seats. What’s the deal here?
Almost 100K so close
Definitely getting there
I love the 911 targa GTS 4 is twinturbo with electric targa roof. For now I stay with my 2015 Cayenne turbo is not fast like the 911 but still has 500HP V8 twinturbo.
I'd take the Porsche Even though I'll never see that engine.
Porsche is far superior bro lol.
Awesome video. I’d take one of each!
The best engineering feat from America is the Ford GT. The second is the 2013+ Viper. This Corvette is 3rd in line.
I understand why you couldn't test it but would be nice to know how these compare on mountain roads.
Well done.
the look on your face kills me when you hammer it. lol. how would my zl1 stack up against these cars from a slow to mid range roll?
Like all American cars, to make the advertised 0-60mph it takes a prepared surface and roll out.
Like every other car. American and not american lol
Porsche every time!
Corvette needs those Porsche wheels to really make it work. That’s my only complaint about the C8. I have a C8:with the black trident wheels.

When do we get the track footage?
I dont think the c8 will age well in the looks dept and depreciation will be huge. The 911 will hold value very well.
Uhh, what about cost? 😳
@@downdemon2378no one who buys a Porsche would buy a corvette so doesn’t matter
I mean yeah they can, I think that it's a funny comparison because a base 911 is going too be comparable to the c8 zr1 when it comes out, the z06 is even way less expensive, and that's with basically no options, if you're comparing a base 911 with options or maybe a carrera 4s then we're talking about a z8 zora lol
You mean the zo6 right not zr1.
