The "don't downshift when accelerating" should be adjusted: don't MANUALLY downshift if you are already accelerating. When you step on the gas, the car automatically downshifts to give you the power you requested. If you then downshift more, you will either put yourself above power band or it will simply refuse to downshift because you will exceed the redline. Downshifting in DSG if you wanna accelerate is completely cool, just downshift first, then add gas smoothly so that your turbo spools up.
Not only have i not launched my mk7 gli in over but i havent even done a first gear pull in over a year. The gear difference between 1st and 2nd makes for alot less wear and tear on everything. And with mine struggling to even put down power on 2nd gear pulls i mostly do 3rd gear and up pulls. I have a feeling that will pay off in thousands down the line. Also if you are tuned you may have the option too launch your car with traction control on (stock you have too have it off for a reason; a good reason) launching your car is very hard on it; but launching your car with traction control engaged is even worse. Spinning the wheels while yes wasting power also is protecting your drivetrain. Particularly the axles, lsd/differential and transmission. The lsd in the cars cant even handle the full factory power outputs which is why you need traction control off. The gti/gli had very strong axles but if you repeatedly launch your tuned car with tsc on you are likely too suffer from some serious problems later on. Think about it- youve got all that energy and your trapping it so where does it go? Starts slightly twisting and moving drivetrain components which wears them down then boom. The real reason why not to downshift when accellerating is because, lets say you're in 3rd gear and speeding up, the other clutch has 4th gear in standby (due to DSG software). Downshifting at that moment, makes the other clutch to switch from 4th gear to 2nd gear, which takes a lot of time to do. During that time your revs gone up for 1000rpm or more, creating a huge danger to downshift at that high rpm.

I’ve noticed it’s very smooth and fast when driving but sometimes it throws a fit at me when manoeuvring as I like to do my manoeuvres quickly so I’m out of ppl’s way it’s hard to get used to taking things a lot slower to allow the clutch chance to feed in properly. My driveway is also quite difficult to reverse into as there’s 2 trees in the entrance either side so if you don’t position yourself properly you’ll end going up the tree stump the transmission really does not like that and once you upset it takes a while to sort itself out I normally have to shift back into P and hold it there for a few seconds then continue. I need to keep remembering it’s not a torque converter and that it uses 2 clutches.

I always downshift when i put the throttle down?? It is iffy though obviously dont down shift if your in the higher revs as well duh😂. But downshiftin the dsg is different from a manual. It downshifts smoother when slowing obviously but it can also downshift just a smooth at certain throttle positions. If you can kinda picture preset shift points based on throttle and rpms then you can basically replicate it manually. If your at 2k rpms and 5th gear and want to downshift to 4th youve got too picture how much throttle you would need for the computer too autodownshift. Too much and youll be looking at 3rd gear throttle at 4th gear rpms. So dropping one gear from say 2k to 2300 rpms you need to be barely touching the gas. Too mcuh and you get a really rough slow unpleasant shift( bad for dsg) to little and it might have been expecting too just coast or keep a steady speed and also be bad. Now say your downshifting from 5th at 2k too 3rd at maybe around 3k. Then downshift too 4th like before holding the throttle steady then increase throttle the same proportions (its just like a manual you want too match the rpms but its completely different then a true manual. Much harder too get right as your trying too think like the computer. Idk how to explain this well tbh. It took me a really long time too get the smoothest shifts in my dsg. I still get bad shifts tbh. Its almost like its inconsistent but its not. Theres just some variable somewhere your not noticing. Like ill go full throttle and shortshift at 4k rpms and get a super clean shift but do the same at 5k rpms and get a super rough slow shift. I still dont have it mastered but its because its the computer.
Showing a stick shift car miss a gear while drag racing is NOT a DSG scenario....first of all you need aftermarket TCU software to go beyond factory redline and the car knows if it would go beyond that and lock-out the downshift to protect itself. Sorry, but this videi cannot be taken seriously by someone who actually knows how a DGS works.
It’s not even about being at red line… Even under normal or slightly aggressive throttle downshifts while accelerating is detrimental. Seems like you don’t know how a dsg works homie 🤣🤣

Downshifting while accelerating on a stock vehicle isn't detrimental as all this is still limited by the ECU and TCM. If it has been flashed, then that's a different story.
There is literally no reason to downshift while accelerating even if it doesn’t harm anything on DSG. Your revs go up when accelerating, when you downshift your revs also go up. Only scenario you would downshift is to slow down, or to get the revs to be in the power band for accelerating. If you already have the power to accelerate, there is no reason to downshift.
I have the DSG tune, in auto mode, hitting the accelerator forces the car to usually drop 2 gears as it accelerates, well it does when I'm in 5th or 6th
You absolutely cannot money shift a Dsg or dct transmission. That's false, the car will physically and is programmed to never let you and you cannot program it out unless you have a custom tune on the dsg.

If you have owned a older dsg you know exactly what he meant by that
It’s not even about being at red line… Even under normal or slightly aggressive throttle downshifts while accelerating is detrimental. Seems like you don’t know how a dsg works homie 🤣🤣
@@rileywagner6741 On my 7.5 gti I haven’t had it happen that much but firt time it happened on my mk6 i thought i had to have broken something even my friend was like wtf happened. DSG transmissions are weird and clunky sometimes but when you drive them like they are supposed to they word amazing
@@mathees I just got rear ended and my 2019 6mt was totaled so I just drive the dsg in manual mode all the time. It really takes away from anything clunky happening.
@@rileywagner6741 Anytime i want to drive sporty i drive in manual mode with the dsg knob makes me feel like im driving a sequential box haha
Any advices for DSG hold hill assist?
@@joesaiditstrue That's the same for a stock DSG too.
Is it Okey to upshift using paddle shifter while in D or S mode ...like, in D5th gear, can I make it to M6 ?
Hey bro I have a weird question for you do you apply your e brake whenever you park?
Yup! Especially when I park on a hill
You absolutely cannot money shift a Dsg or dct transmission.
That's false, the car will physically and is programmed to never let you and you cannot program it out unless you have a custom tune on the dsg.
Interesting... but car does these things automatically... just drive slow to make it last...
Smoking tyres is not healthy for your dsg... I did that to mine and for now still holding up clocking 45000km... 😅
Thanks for the video
Hey bro can you use the paddle shifters while on normal d and if u put it into s mode will the car shift on it’s own if u forget it would be grate if u did a video explaining how to use them
Yeah you can use the paddles whenever and it’ll shift for you if you forget
Maybe I should have watched this before getting 2 r32’s
My Tiguan just needed a new clutch pack at 103km. Very very expensive. Avoid at all costs - pun intended
The easiest way to remedy these problems is to just learn stick shift 😉 it only has 200hp. It doesn’t need a dual clutch. Manual is where it’s at for hot hatches
Ok
Not much of an option in my case. Mk5 R32 with dsg only in the US
Step 1: Don't buy a car with a DSG Transmission.
Step 2: Enjoy life
i have a whining noise on deceleration. if anyone knows anything please help.
There could be play on the input shaft, which loads up a bearing when decelerating
Thanks 4 sharing!!!!
Goo video, thanks
What not to do ? Hmmm buy
What’s ur exhaust

Nice!
Great video
so in conclusion, don't drive it to prevent wears :D
So...in other words if you're gonna drive it hard! Just get something else lol
I have a mk5 manual. Was debating on grabbing a mk6 auto but I'm scared about the Transmission
Or keep up with repairs and have shorter service intervals.
At least with a manual it’s cheaper to repair

This is the third DSG video I've seen and all use the same source. The sad thing is you friend don't understand the points made.
all the points I've shared I've learn from other dog owners over the years. is there any new tips or habits I should stay away from?
