- The Volkswagen ID.7 has landed in the UK, and it's a big 'un! Literally - it's nearly 5m long, costs £52,000 and promises 382-435 miles of range. It's meant to be comfortable, efficient and practical, but what's the reality? All the space and comfort makes it amazing interesting car. I hope it is better value when the whole range arrives.
Tim, great review as ever! If you had to choose, would you have this with the DCC or a fully spec’ed ID4 GTX? The ID4 is £100 per month cheaper to lease, probably due to discounts, but the range is a chunk lower.
I’d go for this over the ID4. More range, I’m not fussed about having more performance…
Yeah, not bothered about extra performance and would like the greater range. Just might be beyond my blandness tolerance limit

So this does that Polestar thing of looking like the metalwork has been stretched up (to accommodate the battery pack). How come Tesla doesn't have the same issue snd you feel quite low in the car? Genuinely would like to know how they can do it but most others can't
Because in the model 3 if you are over 5’6 your knees are around your ears.
It's not good enough to be 'meh' at £50k+ - I'd take any of the Hyundai-Kia EVs over this tbh

It's funny to see that everybody is complaining about the looks of the car. We are living in an era where a model y is the best selling car in the world, nobody with some sense of taste can claim that's a good looking car and yet...

Can you turn the speed limit warning OFF permanently or do you have to turn it OFF every time you start the car ?
Every time you start the car. It's the same on every 2024 model onwards as part of an EU safety directive aimed at driving us all insane and making us crash by faffing about turning off speed limit warnings.
Only a matter of time until not only will you not be able to switch it off, but that it actively restricts your speed 🙄. New cars these days are the epitome of Totalitarianism by stealth.
There must be a "workaround" for it. Hopefully there is a software "update" available soon that will remove it.
Someone will have an "upgrade" you can install sooner or later, I'm sure, that will eliminate the obnoxiousness.
Believe me Tim. I have sold my 528 klm EV. The supercharher I use now is a petrol pump. So easy so fast and app free.
EVs without home charging don't make much sense unless you have somewhere you go regularly where you know you can charge. You should know this before buying an EV and then discrediting the EV because you didn't think beforehand.
For example I charge 99% of the time at home and I really don't miss having to take time to go somewhere to fill up. That said I would not even consider an EV if I could not charge at home, it's too much hassle. Public charging should be only for transit, we need to make charging at home accessible for daily use to be able to take advantage of EVs.

We just got our ID7's (Stockholm, Sweden 🇸🇪) The glove box is not the same, as in your video. Its very good, looking like a normal glove box. It's not 2 spaces. Only 1 "big" space 👍
It's only for the right hand drive models, the fusebox is in the same place for the left hand drives but we've got the glovebox on the other side so it doesn't interfere. VW hasn't bothered mirroring the fusebox for the rhd. So the rhd id7s get half a glovebox and the lhd get a full glove box.

Ya. It's kind of shitty that VW has gone with the french way and it sucks. VW should change that. The power windows with the "rear" switch sucks too. Why VW is saving on such things when they want to market the ID7 as a quality product?

I have a large VW dealership near to me…saw one of these on the forecourt…totally agree it is so bland…they should just make it in beige…

00:01 Whoa, that jacket woke me up this morning! Nice car but black really isn’t the best colour, makes a dull car look like a pseudo-hearse! I also would take the range claims with a pinch of salt, especially the 400 mile+ one. The revised Model Y coming soon will beat its aerodynamics and get more range from a smaller battery. More like 250-325 real world.
If it was £45k, so a bit more than a similar Passat, then it would be a reasonable buy, but £60k (with options/metallic) is absolutely bonkers. I really do despair sometimes with EV’s - why on earth would anyone buy one at that price? I’m sure there will be be massive fleet discounts so leasing will be competitive but these will probably be £30k used in a year to 18 months time.
Shame, I would love a nice big tourer like an EV Skoda Superb Estate, but these will only sell in tiny volumes at this price.
Another channel did a side by side range test with MY and I think the id.7 actually won, without heat pump
A lot of negative comment from people that can't afford an EV. If I had a choice for infotainment I'd choose the smaller. The one here is just too big. I have no issues with the width, but its too tall and interrupts the dash lines.
I would take a car with no infotainment over this any day. Just give me place to put the phone on the rare occasion I go to an unknown place and I need a map.

I look nothing like an e-tron. If you think that its your mind playing trick on you because you know they both use the same platform. Do you think it looks like the Porsche Macan too?
I think it looks like a Ferrari 355
with this kind of design they would not be able to compete vs Chinese competition and soon EV bubble will burst too because low percentage of peoples have only money to buiy that crap while everyone else not and technology of batteries dont go anywhere in terms of more range faster recharge ,longevity,acceptable price....

How many decades has it been since you priced a new car? The Toyota RAV4 Prime is $50k. You really need to get out more before commenting.

Its meh, is equivalent to a model 3sr with a bit more space at rear but 2x price and less rage , no standard heat pump, dumb software and user interface.. lagacy auto still not comited to ev

@@claudiumxg1you're comparing 57kwh standard range m3 with 77kwh ID7 and even so it's not a 50% difference. Where I live the base ID7 is 3k EUR more than base long range m3 and it's a bigger more comfortable car.

There is already a range test on youtube for this car and surprise surprise it's nowhere near claimed. It did 380 km at 110 kph.. Yup that's 380 kilometers, not miles. Just another terrible EV.
You 'accidentally' left out the bit where the car was tested at zero ⁰C and the car tested didn't have a heat pump....

As WLTP is tested at 25⁰C, its rather foolish to think that any car will get near their WLTP average when it's zero degrees!
Let's see what happens when it gets a bit warmer....

Yup, it looks horrificly boring… But it’s a VW, they’re always horrificly boring! I tried the ID.7 and it is incredibly comfortable and quiet… and the infotainment is actually really good. HOWEVER, it’s MUCH too expensive! With that said, it feels leagues ahead of Tesla in terms of quality (but then again, so does the leaning tower of Pisa) and the drive is much nicer than the Korean’s… But that price!!!
What are Volkswagen doing with their designs lately? They are all awful, old fashioned and out dated. This ID.7, the new Tiguan, the new Golf, etc. All look like they have lost that solid & easy to look at and practical design language of the past. Also, inside the small instrument cluster is just pathetic, while the huge center screen that just looks like it was stuck on is ugly. Volkswagen should look again at the 2024 Porsche Macan's dash to see how neat and integrated looks like.

Nope, I enjoy all cars no matter how they are powered. I also enjoy Tim's reviews as they are good fun.

P.S an ICE vehicle is statistically more likely to catch fire than a BEV 🫡
