Amazing how much learnings Volkswagen has done since the 1st ID3… Great progress
But nearly now progress for early ID.3 customers even though IT was promised by VW.
@@matthiaskunst8336 that‘s a really mess… I was 1st Mover for 75000 km and know this non existing progress for early MEB cars

Kinda sad that all previous id owners were basically beta testers
As a person who build this car Im glad you like it 😊
Drove it 360 kilometres in one day last week. Loved it. I’m editing a video as we speak. Good car!
Cheese slices through butter 😂😂
Only aerodynamic cheese can do that🤪🧀💨
Thai and chinese slices trough english too. Like butter! Almost impossible to listen to. Jesus saves!
I can not wait for the ID7 Touring! I have a Passat GTE and the ID7 Touring will be my next car!
there will be some people who got the id4 wishing they got the id7 when it comes out in the United States
Thomas @ Autogefuhl has a new video looking at the estate (touring). I haven't watched it yet but an ID7 estate is lining up to look like a really good prospect!
@@ObserverDingueyeah, it has newer software too and some improvements, HUGE space. I wish my Kona was worse to justify changing it
Great job as usual!!! I have a Tesla but i'm really happy that finally there is a real european car competitor...competition is always positive for the consumer. Thanks Bjorn.
Watched most recent Model S and Y winter tests, they are all at dry roads, no rain, slightly lower temp. ID.7 is very impressive considering pouring rain for 10 hours. Also, the Teslas was only 10-15 minutes faster in their summer run than the dry winter run. (also listen to the noise difference)
You forgot to mention the most important aspect though... Temperature.
The model Y beat the id7 in colder temps so the defeat is even worse
@@Twin.motors Not sure what you mean. Wet roads have a bigger effect on consumption than temperature, and the Tesla have only a small difference on consumption in summer vs cold 1000 km test, around 10-15 minutes only.
@@eirik500 for Tesla's you are correct. But other EV heat pumps are not that efficient.
@@Twin.motors Other tests show similar results, e.g. @BatteryLife. Need to drive them in the same conditions to find any difference.
You forgot the difference in power and drive-train. I prefer 4x4 and 400kw of power instead of granny's 220 kw (for EV's ofcourse) and RWD. So the machine with 2x power and 2x more powered axles uses the same amount of energy, what would you choose? The real efficiency is still far away from Tesla's...
If I were in the market for a new EV right now, I would totally go for it. Tesla-like efficiency, giant interiour, nice exteriour. The only thing missing is a frunk, but I could totally live with it.
9:55 Loved the imperial theme for imperial units!
It was sh!tty rainy weather. I guess in summer, on dry road, it is shaving down, 15 minutes. But it also, it can get much worse consumption, at -30 C 😂. All in all, a great EV.👍
Shave much more time without rain, and even some more in summer.
Will it rapidgate in summer like Škoda? Remains to be seen.
TeslaBjorn approved for mild winter conditions!
29:35 Also Bjørn slept 2 h which cools down battery and cabin, which increases consumption when driving again.
„Dont show me that porn at night man“

7:33 "I think..; wow, I can arrive with 0% then oh yeah..!"
I would like to hear those who are skeptical of electric cars had heard this! 😅
Maybe they dont have night in California 😂
Fun fact:
1, USA has a very strict upper limit on high beam brightness(Light Intensity) of 75,000 cd for each headlight unit(equivalently 150,000 cd for a car), while this limit in Europe is 215,000 cd(430,000 for a car), three times as large.
2, However, the Light Intensity of ID7's highbeam is probably not as much as you expect, it is only about a bit less than 200,000 cd in the brightest point of the whole illumination(around the center of view).
3, the 150,000 cd limit means you can have 1 lux of illumination at 390 meters, while the higher 430,000 cd means you can extend the 1 lux range to 650 meters.
He’s exaggerating just to catch more views, the lights are perfectly fine on Highland, it seems he likes old man cars lately 😂 And if you can load a horse into it, even better…
@@luciteckhe’s joking and no, the ID.7 is not an old man’s car

Looks impressive to me Bjorn. It would be great to see a challenge for this car during warmer months, if such a thing as "warmer" exists over there. lol. Thanks for the drop.
As a Dane who used to live 200 km southwest of this route, I can tell that 20 to 25 degrees Celsius is very common during the summer, although it may only be some 10 to 15 degrees during the night, when the motorway is almost empty.
In Germany where I live now it would be very difficult to do a similar test due to poorer roads and much much heavier lorry traffic.

VW finally seems to have figured out most of the things correct! I haven't seen this car live but based on video review, this already seems like a true competitor to Tesla products even if both cost the same.
There is yet the childish sunroof without curtain for better isolation and soundproofing. Otherwise solid option for model Y, S or X.
In nordic conditions good lights, doors with frame, curtain for sunroof, boot that does not guide snow, ice, water in trunk and proper door handles are prefered. ID7 got most right.👍
Afaik you can get ID7 without glass roof too! I hope I am not misinformed..

11:11 "limit for discharge" 900 A. That is up to ~360 kW that battery can deliver. VW should make an ID7 GTX AWD with 290 kW motors.
My Buzz (3.2) is remembering what mode it is on. It never fall back to "default"
My ID.4 (3.5) keeps the last used setting in the mode view but behaves as if it was reset to comfort. Not sure what’s going on or why Volkswagen hasn’t fixed it.
That’s EU regulation
Since 2024 only until next drive.... Waiting till someone hacks them..
Love "Like cheese through butter!"
You can use scheduled start to run the heater for 1,5h.
Amazing test
As an EV6 driver, I would like that headlight. I loved the xenon headlight of our Opel/Wauxhall Astra from 2011. It was very good on motorways. My new headlight is not that good.
Good effort from VW. Still waiting for Octavia/Superb equivalent.
Personally I've been waiting for an actual Audi (Ingolstadt) EV since the Model S. Now finally next year you can supposedly buy the A8, A6 and A4 a year after that... Over 10 years for a competitor from Volkswagen!
Same. I love Simply Clever ideas and the huge trunk space from Skoda. Also, Model 3 is not kid-seat friendly, and doesn't have a front Isofix option.
@@rkan2 "since the Model S" Indeed the E-tron model S is great. First tri-motor EV way before Tesla managed to produce one.
[" 24:06] The massage seats are new:

Looks like the first decent electrowagen from VW.
This Passat is awesome!
Electric Passat please. The original also exists in parallel.
Thanks
Thank you :)
Great test as usual! I'd love to see the station wagon version tested as well, with the biggest battery and AWD if available. I hope they make an "Alltrack" version too, with high ground clearance (hopefully over 20 cm) but I have my doubts.
I can safely order my ID.7 now I have seen Bjorn's 1000km challenge and banana box test :) Did this car have a heat pump? Still not sure if it's worth the £1000 extra cost in UK...
Heat pump is always worth it!
Heat pump is well suited to UK conditions where there are many days in the year when we need heating whilst driving in the morning and evening. Heat pump is less effective in other places where there are extremely cold temperatures. ☮️
Check the channel of Battery life, he owns a ID. 7 without Heatpump and results seem to be quite similar to this test one
@@binflydushy Battery life made the test on dry roads. That’s the difference. Even if the consumption is the same.
Afaik only included in nordic countries, not in UK. Maybe as an option...
Nice car for the average Joe, seems to be what many has been asking for. Especially when available as Tourer/Sportscombi/whatsitsface.
Nice and well made video, as always 💪🏻❤️
I do not think the "Average Joe" has the money for an new ID7, maybe Average Joe has money in about 10 years for this car, when it is 15K. Very few people buy new cars.
@@thebinkbink6349average mee will buy it 😊 In Denmark is EV cars "cheap", fossile cars are extreme expensive in Denmark!
We finally will see numbers how many people do not just talk of Sportscombi but actually buy one!
@@thebinkbink6349You’re right for many markets, but in Sweden (and many western European markets) it’ll be the choice for the company car driver with a low TCO budget. Average Joe company car driver, private consumers for not-private lease BEV’s in Sweden are few mostly due to (rightous) worries for BEV residual values. But the ICE Passat is ”only” €15k cheaper, so if RV’s stabilize for BEV’s the private TCO will be in favour for the ID.7.
Other markets are of course different.
As I've said. £60k in the UK. That's puts it out of reach for 95% of the population. Just about every iD7 you'll see in the UK will be a company car.
Fantastic Car
15:50 My guess is that they have to always start up in comfort as that is probably the setting that they used for the range/consumption certification.
Unfortunate that this also affects your suspension settings though.
id7 variant is my favorite EV at this point. As winter tyres are directional, there is no rotation of wheels possible at all, so I would expect very non-economical tyre-life.
Swap front to back on the same side? 🤔
@@Tim_Kent You cant, rear tires are bigger than the front ones (235/50 front vs 255/45 rear on the 19" version).
How is it more economical though? Wear one set out at a time should not really cost more, unless you need to swap all 4 due to AWD or something (which really should not apply here).
@@celaskon17I guess you can buy same size winter tires on your own, no? Won't feel the same ofc but..
It slices through the air like cheese through butter 😂😂😂❤
My etron 55 drives fine to spekeroed during winter also from Oslo. Holds up good compared to this.
Software is not great but that screen is very nice
Bjorn, great reviews as always, would be good to show your food consumption resulting in less plastic waste, preserving our planet doesn't only come from reducing fossil fuel consumption by cars, currently most plastics are made from fossil fuels. Keep up the great work
@12:52 "This function is only available when the ignition is switched on."
Am I the only one who thinks, an EV should not ignite? 💥
Night in California made my not day but week.😂❤
Weird that the drive mode resets to Comfort, it must be a bug because even on my old id3 ProS it stays on Individual once and for all
Some people say it's a EU regulation.
The constantly resetting driving mode is unfortunately due to the fact that the car was homologated in such a mode. And the legislation requires that it is always activated in this mode.
Awesome car!
So will enyaq MY2024 have the same specifications as this one?
Im quite interested to know if you will try another enyaq anytime soon with 4.0 software
Very nice car. Impressive charging speed if it keeps that high.
I like the interior also the outside look it has instruments at the right place it is made for humans not for saving money for future self driving shit.
Also charging port on the right side.
Nice entertaining as always.
But dont get to sloppy on the bonus minutes when you have technical or personal delays or overcharge, seems a bit to random at some occasions.
Whats up with the low DC voltage?? 360v at 50% SOC - seems strange
lets not forget you talk about the "new" upgraded Q4 etron....not the "first edition". They are like night and day. Mine charges dead slow compared to the new Q4 :(
He is already comparing to new Q4, check he tested a few weeks back
Great test, thanks. Expecting 30% less consumption when dry.
Can you comment on why the Model S facelift was 45 minutes faster? Wet vs dry? Did you charge too long? Smaller battery?
250 kW charging speed until 30 % and 100 kWh battery.
30%? That is not at all the difference I am seeing in my EV driving - more like 10-15% (TM3 Highland).
@@christianolsen9781, it's about the palladium model S, not the M3 highland. Indeed the model 3 only charges with 250 kW for a brief moment. My 2019 LR DM Model 3 also charges only 5-10% with 250 kW and then tapers.
wow VW is in the game now, bye Tesla. 8:45 that door noise was so satisfying 😍
You think so? It's ugly, still has bad software, way too expensive for what it is, and all you care about are door noises?
Wonder if you have tried to normalize the consumption figures by dividing by the (Cw*surface area) to get rid of the factors related to the car body shape and size. I presume that all MEB platform cars should come out roughly the same.. though there is also the wheels to consider I guess?
Impressive
Cheese would indeed slice through butter if it was pre heated
Impressive car and i like the way it looks but its so large! Why don't they make cars a bit smaller with the same looks.
Nice car - efficiency could be better vs. Tesla, but assistants and Matrix lights seems to be several levels over Tesla.
The IQ lights were superior to Tesla's already in 2020.
Best Electric Car❤
You cannot blame the Germans for the white car in the infotainment. My EV6 is showing either a white EV6 in my 360 camera and an IONIQ 5 in the charging screen :'-)
Slices through the air as cheese through butter 😄Didn't know cheese had that ability to glide easy through butter
Now I know why I sometimes drop my cheese on the floor from my open sandwiches 😂
I saw an ID7 on the highway with open charge port. Is the charge port cover not automatic?
Not any VW i ever saw. I gues only on some Audi or Porsche...
Interesting you like the ID.7 since every other reviewer had stated it looks bland to the point it looks generic. However VW has significantly improved MEB over the years - the new APP550 motor is excellent and even though it still has the same 82 kWh gross pack the charging speed & curve is far better than early cars.
This is almost an Audi tbh... Air suspension and all. Just missing the multilink from from Ingolstadt.😅
@@rkan2 id7 doesnt have air suspension.
@@rkan2like a new VW phaeton
@@rkan2 No air-suspension but it has DCC (Dynamic Chassis Control) i.e. adaptive suspension.
Being bland and generic is or was per definition being a VW car. They used to build affordable cars that are focused on functionality. If the customer wanted somewhat more style they could switch to Audi.
Fazer Tutti Frutti is the best.
They just need to have a driver profile where u can save ur settings
They have mentions of this in manual that the welcome screen would contain Restore function instead of the Ok. But it is not there yet, if ever...
Hi Bjorn, I’ve shortlisted a Mercedes EQE and the ID7 to replace my Enyaq as my next taxi. Which of the two would you recommend? Whichever I choose, it will be a used car not new so the price difference will be irrelevant. Cheers.

Hi Bjørn, I have an ID.3 and it always remembers my driving profile.. Maybe because you were on some kind of Guest Account?
Nope. I was on Teslabjørn user. I think it was shown in the video even.
Id3/4/5 has a bug even it shows same profile does not behave like selected profile. You can test it by leaving car on eco, when you go back to car it will be eco but you will be able to pass 130km/h. If you select something else and select eco again you see that you cannot pass 130. You need to floor it and hear click to pass 130.
I think they fixed the bug on v4 software by correctly displaying what it is defaulting haha
Resetting drive mode to comfort, lane assist and speed warning comes from current EU regulation.
@@ziggmageThis behavior is not a bug but is exactly as described in the operating instructions. is probably due to regulation. With the combustion engine, however, only the transmission and engine reset to normal, the settings for the air conditioning, chassis, steering, etc. remain unchanged.

If you cannot implement a good auto function, just add a button. Button for preheating for the win!
In my mind, automatics should always be secondary. There should always be a button for doing an action manually. You can always add automation later, it's basically calling the same function anyway.
