    The backup camera did get dirty on my ID.3 recently (just as the entire back, number plate was unreadable). But it does get wiped along with the rear windows when using wiper fluid. The front camera does not though. I also agree on the importance of driving data in the cockpit, I really missed that during my summer road trip in '22 and was very glad I got it with SW 3.2 just in time for this summer.

    I believe the windshield heater is a very thin layer of silver inside the glass. It is a few molecules thick, and it uses a relatively tiny amount of power. I think there are areas near the mirror that are not heated - because these areas work for toll devices, etc.

    Remember you have to multiply the drag coefficient with the frontal area of the car. That might be larger than the id3, so the total drag could be more despite having similar Cd values.

It feels almost like the car struggles to get the balance right between the regen and the normal brakes. Glad VW are heading in the right direction. Regarding some of the annoying features, I read on the ID forum that you can disable the welcome screen and force the car to remember driver assist settings using an OBD device. final piece missing: price of the car in this configuration is what and how much more than the ID.3 lease ?
    That was 550€ or whatever you had mentioned in the beginning, but this one is way more expensive and not just the base line price I am pretty sure.
    All previous owners on the channel will feel screwed if they hear a message what is only coming with 4.0 and that this hardware is a complete new developement cause this will mean for VW they have abandoned it or might end the updates about 2 years after the last ID.3 pre facelift had been delivered to avoid all the warranty issues VW would face cause they had been advertizing with the OTA and feature updates.

    Our 2 years old ID.3 Max has most of the improvements: HUD, 360 cameras, better sound system. But sadly they didn’t even bring the new infotainment system or the new engine to ID.3 facelift. New engine would be ~450km range (mid battery) and ~6.5s acceleration. I would have also preferred aero improvements in the facelift. Tesla Model 3 got nice range improvement due to aero updates. 500km range ID.3 with mid sized battery would be worth the update. Sadly not what we got :(

      I agree that the brake feel isn’t the best in ID.3. Same problem in ID.4 and ID.5. Glad to hear that they improved it for ID.7. The new infotainment system also looks super nice. But it’s a bummer that those people who just bought ID.3 facelift will not get any software updates at all. Feels like a dead car at launch. No wonder it is selling so poorly.

    There is a reference adjustment target of the low-beam according to European's headlight regulation:
    The inclination of the left cut-off line of the low-beam is supposed to be -1 degree(actually you can find the very -1.0 degree mark on the headlamp's assembly), that is to say, if the headlamp module is 60 centimeters high, then the reach of the left cut-off line should be roughly 60 meters.
    You can adjust in such manner, and the low beam should be better, and the coupled high beam(increase the reach of low-beam also raise the angle of high-beam) will be affected reasonably limited.

    • @oijhhytdirhrbru
      @oijhhytdirhrbru 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      That is correct, ID7's matrix high beam has 18 segments, while ID4 has 11 segments. The supplier of the headlamp is switched to Valeo at id7 from AL(magneti marelli's AutomotiveLighting) at id4.
      The upcoming Tiguan Gen3 and Passat B9 will be using a 20-thousand pixel microLED secondary highbeam supported by a base multi segment matrix high beam.
      On ID7 and other VW cars, the secondary highbeam(if available) is made of ordinary non-segmented LED light source.

    • @BatteryLife

      I don't notice a difference.

    • @cheezedippah
      @cheezedippah 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@oijhhytdirhrbruInteresting information. Will the microLED include any significant difference in performance/Lumen/Candela or are high-resolution segments the main advantage? Also peculiar they didn't include these new lights in the "premium" ID7.

    • @oijhhytdirhrbru
      @oijhhytdirhrbru 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@cheezedippah The microLED is a cheaper replacement of DMD type pixel module which has a whopping 1-2million pixels and is very expensive.
      The dmd module itself is not bright enough. so such high end headlamp has to equip both dmd module and traditional matrix module, where the matrix module provided most of the light and a basic high beam illumination, and the light from dmd module focuses at the center view and act as an advanced secondary high beam, to greatly increase the ADB high beam performance.
      The micro-led high beam module is somewhere between dmd module(million pixels)and matrix module(10-100 segments). When considering in one dimension (horizontally or vertically), microled has 10 times more pixels than matrix module but 10 times less pixels than dmd module.
      However, micro-led module is more flexible in illuminating shape, and has advantages in brightness comparing with dmd module(but still worse than matrix module)
      Because of these above, it is more practical for car brands to include just one micro-led module and one matrix module to achieve targets of illumination performance and make it financial acceptable.
      One headlight assembly with matrix high beam cost around 300 dollars for car manufacturers, however those who equipped dmd module as a secondary high beam is at least 1000 dollars. The cost of one micro-led module and one matrix module is much closer to the 300 dollars level.
      We also have an micro-led use case in the top tier brands:
      Porsche has included two 40-thousand -pixels micro-led(it is 20 thousand pixels in Volkswagen's upcoming models) modules in the recently updated cayenne, and no matrix module is used.
      Let's go back to id7 then:
      The id7 is a traditionally designed car in a 4-year development period, and it shares almost everything with other MEB platform vehicles, so it is naturally not to include a micro-led headlamp in id7.
      However both B9 passat and Tiguan gen3 represent the new generation of the ice platform MQB(evo), so we have seen (micro-led based)pixel headlamp on them.
      It is expected the facelift version of id34567 may have a pixel headlamp, or the new headlamp might be delayed into MEBevo platform.

    • @oijhhytdirhrbru
      @oijhhytdirhrbru 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@cheezedippah In short the micro-led module has the advantages from both matrix module and dmd pixel module with reasonably limited compensation, and it meets financial target very well that we will not see jokes at Mercedes:
      who does have their D/E segment cars equipped with dmd pixel headlight, but in a very small percentage. The others are equipped with very low-end led headlights(no adb function, and even without lens) to reduce total costs.

    My wifes ID.3 has the cruise control following following whatever it ide tifies as the speed limit. It makes makes many mistakes - in both directions. It is so bad that I rarely use the cruise control. Particularly bad is wheb suddenly believe a 110 or 130 zone is a 60 zone.... that is dangerous.
    If I get a chime in all those cases it will be a considerable stress factor.
    That alone would make me more than hesitant to buy and ID.7 (or any car with the feature).

If Volkswagen expect me to buy a new VW, then VW must lobby the EU to make lane assist an option, not a default, and that the car remember my settings from one trip to the next. Tesla is absolutely a no-go for me with the stuctural battery pack that is not servicable and 1 replacement part. Watch richh rebuilds 16.000 and rich rebuilds 22000.
      VW's battery is modular and fully servicable, and they sell the modules over the counter. That is an absolute must if you drive that car for more than a decade.
      I like the entertainment of VW, and every car without android auto support is a no go.
      Also what really counts, handling and practicality, doing car things, VW is just doing it right for me.
