I can’t wait till Sin and Punishment, Kirby 64, Mace the Dark Ages, Army Men Sarge’s Heroes 2, Winback, Star Fox 64, Duke Nukem Zero Hour, etc all get the recompiled treatment. This really is a milestone for N64 emulation!
I can't wait for Goemans Great adventures multiplayer for me that was the game I played more of because of siblings and it had a neat story aside that everyone can play along with
Threw me off seeing it running in 60 fps but in a good way. I'm looking forward to these recomps getting improved models. Also hoping we get a Mischief Makers recomp soon.
I'm looking forward to the rest of the N64 library being recompiled for Windows and Linux, but seeing how much more is possible with modding recompiled games compared to hacking ROMs makes me want recompilation tools for other platforms, such as NES, SNES, Gamecube, Switch, etc. etc.
I should see if I can get any of these to work on Steam Deck. I've always wanted to try out that Mario 64 PC version with the upgraded visuals that resemble the old promotional renders.
For some reason when I try to run this, it just closes. I've tried various compatibility settings... and made sure windows 10 was using the correct graphics card on my Laptop (gtx960). The Zelda one works fine oddly enough... Anyone have any ideas?
Maybe try running as administrator? Otherwise no. I haven’t had any issues nor has anyone else (someone was missing a DLL file but that’s the only issue I’ve heard)
I was the DLL guy. I had a weird error regarding Kernel32.dll - not missing, something about failure on... I forget. The message is below. Happened on both my Win7 computers. So I try Win10 and... It just instantly shuts down. No error, no attempt to load and crash, just immediate closure. Same problem as yours it seems. I can't find a solution and I have no more computers to test on (just a legacy XP rig). Please post if you figure it out.
Procedure entry point failure with Kernel32.dll I have a working dll in the Windows folder, and I stuck one in the Goemon folder. I cannot working out why it refuses to work on THREE different computers! Does it only work on Windows 11?
Why stop there? The F-Zero X Expansion Kit was ported from the 64DD to cartridge sometime ago, so why not recompile _that_ to Windows/Linux? From there it only seems natural to mod higher resolution assets, _maybe_ ripped from the Gamecube, into the recompiled game and expand the track and vehicle editors with new features.
I guess this port isn't just download and play, theres more technical stuff to setup? I'm having a bit of trouble even beginning to get this setup. Is there a video somewhere describing how to do it?
you link to the spreadsheet documenting current recomps, but no link to this recomp? anyone got a link to the actual project? never mind i found it with some external searching. them keeping it only on their discord is probably good to help maintain low profile, but not so great for people who, you know.... want to play it.
I'm wondering if anyone could hint at where to go for these. I'd like to have it saved somewhere before it's all taken down. Of course, I can figure it out, but if it'll save me a moment why not? Busy summer for me
Is there any way that we could translate the recomp version to other languages? I'm brazilian and I would love to translate it to portuguese (or at least try), it is my all time favourite N64 game
Yeah, It would be nice to at least create HD textures or make some translations but most of us don't know how to do it. I've been looking tutorials of how edit textures but nothing worked so far.
This is fabulous! Has anyone got it working on their Steamdeck’s gaming mode? I can get it up on the Desktop no problem but gaming mode just refuses to run…
It only launches with proton experimental. When you switch to that it should launch with no problems. The only issue I ran into is that navigating to the rom file in the launcher is really difficult on the steam deck, so I just put it in the root of my SD card.
I was excited to try this out on my steam deck. I can get it to work in desktop mode. But in game mode the screen just stays black. Would you know a fix?
@@VideoGameEsoterica I did try proton experimental like it said on the google doc. Then I tried 9.0.3 and GE-proton9-11. So far still same issue. I’ll mess around more and see if I can get it to work
Legally they can’t touch them with laws on the books. It’s recompiling code in real time. Clean room reverse engineering. That doesn’t mean they wouldn’t TRY though
They can also lobby the government to get laws changed. Nintendo is pretty flush with cash right now, so they could throw their weight around just about anywhere.
@@VideoGameEsoterica The only game that I can remember that had a Dutch translation in the 90s is (very randomly) Lufia 2 on the SNES. It also sucked. It’s making N64 feel like a brand new console lately
I'm waiting for Conker Bad Fur Day and Harvest Moon 64
@lisao10 let’s hope we get both
6:58 Sin and Punishment recompiled would be so badass!
It could use the extra frames!
WOOT!
goemon's great adventure soon i hope :D
You never know!
Snowboard Kids 1 & 2 recomps would be a dream come true.
Those would be awesome for sure
Ah, so it's this and Majora that are mostly playable. Damn, this is moving FAST.
I hope we get at least a few more in the back half of the year
Man. This, plus a Western release of Bakeru, will make a Goemon fan glee with happiness.
Good time to be a Goemon fan
@@VideoGameEsoterica How long until we get recomps of all Bomberman 64 games?
@puertoricanguy999 hopefully soon but eta no clue
I'd love to see Chameleon Twist get a recompilation port.
Major plus if we could also get Chameleon Twist 2, but with the Japanese character models.
You never know what will get added next
Seeing my childhood defining game in widescreen 60fps is one of the best feeling Ive had in a long time
It’s like a brand new game except somehow also super familiar all at once
I can't wait for Goemans Great adventures multiplayer for me that was the game I played more of because of siblings and it had a neat story aside that everyone can play along with
That one was a classic
San Francisco Rush and Rush 2040, Mischief Makers, Bomberman 64, Blast Corps, Rogue Squadron, Extreme G, Beetle Racing
Mischief Makers would be interesting to see for the 2D of if all
@VideoGameEsoterica that was my first rental for the n64. I had no idea what i was getting into, but I wasn't disappointed.
Fun first game to rent
Played this on original hardware + CRT a few years back as someone who missed it as a kid. Very glad an English PC port is here.
Yes it’s nice to have it now
Threw me off seeing it running in 60 fps but in a good way. I'm looking forward to these recomps getting improved models. Also hoping we get a Mischief Makers recomp soon.
I’d love to see Mischief Makers
Shake shake

Recompilation is a fun concept and it’ll be fun to see what other platforms could benefit in the future
My favorite game on the Nintendo 64 VGE. Now I feel llke taking it out to play it after seeing your video. 8^)
The comment before you was another person saying the same thing. Lot of love today
My favorite N64 game!
I must be overlooking it, but where can I find a link to play this? Thanks!
It’s a drive link on Twitter. Those get YT angry in the description unfortunately
I see. Which Twitter account?
Let me look. It’s been a minute
@@VideoGameEsotericaThank you! Looking forward to it
Still waiting for recompilations of Banjo-Kazooie 1&2, Donkey Kong 64, Jet Force Gemini, and Conker's Bad Fur Day.
If I could selfishly make one appear it would be Bomberman Hero but the one that I think would benefit the most would be Sin and Punishment
@@VideoGameEsoterica Every N64 Game can use a recompilation. 🤩
maybe the DK64 memory leak can be found :)
Body harvest 60fps early days of open world vehicles even flying! thats on my list for sure! it was ana amazing game but verrrryy sluggish
@kumble2687 def has a slideshow framerate in spots

Good call. Lmk if it works
The best game on the N64, imo.
Now we just need Goemon's Great Adventure and Conker's Bad Fur Day, and I'll be a happy man.
You misspelled Bomberman Hero
Sin & Punishment would be PEAK
It’s my number 1 hope
What great time for N64 games!
N64 is having a big couple years
1:52 Like Castlevania N64 1&2, Hybrid Haven, and Glover 64? 😏
we already have glover for the pc. glover 64 had a downgraded soundtrack compared to the psx/pc versions.
We def need Castlevania
True

My favorite game on the 64! so excited.
High praise indeed
No readme on how to install it. Got the files and running the .exe does nothing.
I'm praying for the AKI Wrestling games to get ports.
That would be fun
Man, id kill for a recompilation of f-zero X. I wonder if its possible? This is way out of my league of knowledge.

Proton can be hit or miss sometimes
Just an update, the latest steam deck patch fixes the black screen issue in game mode and is now playable
For when a recompilation of Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2, Pokemon Puzzle League and Pokemon Snap?
No clue. Whenever someone makes them :)

Couple of classics for sure

This isn't a first party title so they can't do as much to bully them.
