- We caught up with Questlove at Guitar Center in Manhattan, NY where he introduced us to his amazing new "Breakbeats by Questlove" Ludwig drum kit. This great sounding kit, though small in size, is definitely large in sound.
Get it at: www.guitarcenter.com/Ludwig/B... - เพลง
*You will NOT sounds like Questlove when playing this drum set
Yeah that should have been the disclaimer- lol
Man quest can have buckets sounding genius
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I still want this set though
That kit can easily fit on a small venue stage. OMG, I gotta have it!!!
I would love to jam with Questlove!
I just bought his Ludwig set....
Awesome!
I bought the silver sparkle
Nancy Knight i did too in the same color
@@chuckvs.zombies870 How much in US dollars? Thanks!!!
@@theloniouscoltrane3778 $399.99. It shows it at the end of the video. If you know the ppl at the music store... probably around $300
Where can I buy questlove is he not included with the kit?
e hardware not included
You have to wear Blackface on national television, get a talk show and THEN get the number to his agent. It’s a lot of work.
🤣
I love the tones and ideas for this kit
I just got them today. Love them. Fits perfectly in my townhome.
It's not about feels and chops its about serving the music. He said in one of these videos that as a "pocket" drummer one is almost like an over glorified metronome. But besides that, he's in top dog status by playing what he loves, doesn't have to be a fill or anything like that. It's justice
Feel is everything in drumming and music in general. Chops can serve the music wonderfully at times, especially in more intricate, technical improvisational music.
I bought mine right before this video came out. Absolutely love it!!!
What a sweet set for Any drummer! Great professional level…thanks
From Brooklyn...Awesome job with this kit! Perfect for city dwellers! Going to look into it..
So gotta have this kit!!!!!
Questlove and Ludwig saving my career with this!
That snare is FYEEEE!!!
Awwwww!!! It's adorable!
Played one of these today. Pretty sweet!
The hats they had set up were like playing a dead fish, though.
oooooooooooohhh !! sooooo goood, that kick sounds really like electric sample with booost .... awesome work
I NEED THIS!!
Would love to see Steve Jordan play one of these kits :)
Being "apartment-friendly" would suggest it being quieter than a bigger kit I think. Also, install a kickport on the bass drum and the mic'ed sound will be that of a 22" one. I have a 14" by 14" floor tom for bass and that little upgrade really helps at gigs. Half the size of a bigger kick with the same sound, and lower volume when practicing.
This is what I want I’m just a hobbyist and I play bass and guitar keyboard and electric drums and I wanna throw this with my electric kit and make a hybrid kit! This will be perfect!
I bought one and I love it!
Wow. Definitely will consider this for my apt
I WANT THIS NOW.
A "device". Also known as a drum set.
THATS what it’s called! I was thinkin this whole time “Wait...that looks like a drum set.” I feel cheated.
One of my favorite people EVER...
Great idea !! :D
I got the black sparkle finish it came in last week (: and I'm in love already sounds great! for the price! actually got mine for 249
nope. that's the pocket kit.
How’d you get it 50$ off?
love it
Dope drum set once I seen this about 3 weeks to a month ago I sold my taye studio birch kit. Which was pretty big and then I borrowed guitar center everyday for about 2 weeks til I got them. They were damn worth the trouble with waiting, and selling my drum kit.
Nice kit
I;m getting this kit asap
This is a nice drum kit.
I had a Manu Katché Hipgig kit by Yamaha - great sound. Tough to get any thump out of the 16" acoustically, but sounds good miked up. I'm sure this kit will be cool, definitely worth checking out.
Nice hi hats!!
I need this in my room..
so dope.
hey bruce; I had slingerland build me a 5 x 13 snare...and 18"bass with tom tom rims(stick savers) in 1964
The sizing and muting potential is what wins this kit over for me.
I agree that if you could convert the kick to a floor tom this would be a sweet kit. 10/13/16 is a good spread. Offer a 20 kick for $175 extra and I'll buy one tomorrow. That's a lot of options you can use situationally.
Just right for me!
i might get this
all about tuning, muffling and beater selection....check out the remo powerstoke series...they have them in 16"
You can use a powerstroke 3 from remo..they make them in 16" as well, or a nice vintage coated emperor..both would do a great job ..
Nice. Really perfect for small venues and rehearsal space. Mic it up and you could play
a stadium.
good stuff
I bought the azure blue kit: too cool not to buy! you can play it with the tops off, then do it all over again with the clothes on! i set it for use with moon gel my favorite sticks, the vic firth questloves and some hotrods made of wood. I assembled a solar hihat and crash/ride and a sabian splash. It is dope with a mount made by a cheap gibraltor or someth i forget with 3 percussives, a woodblock, tambourine, and cow bell. My favorite part is the rack tom, rich sound. I put a block of wood under my bass pedal so it stays even! the sound in the video you can duplicate, i watched my cousin play some g funk while it was muted.
If any of u people are considering getting this, i would highly recommend going to the actual GC storefront and playing it yourself, because it sounds totally different in person.
This fucking dude. Sure, we know how it sounds a drum set with mics on a studio.
I bought one of these. Best equipment decision I've made.
I'm fairly sure, he can do fills whenever he chooses to. Though playing music is not about sticking fills in spots whenever you get the chance, it's about feeling the groove, feeling the environment and having natural conversations with other musicians in whatever context you might apply it to.
The Bass Drum head diameter is 16 Inches and it's 14 inches deep.I played these at Guitar Center and I would have to Mic that kick to get it to thump to my liking,so I agree with ya there. But it's not too bad for $400 bucks.
I see my Gretsch Renown '57s in the back!!!
That kit comes with an enormous kick pedal
The only improvement I would make is to make the bass drum convertible to a floor tom in case you want to use a bigger bass drum. Other than that, this is a sweet set. Just the thought of carrying this to gigs makes my back feel better lol
This looks like a great kit for the money.
I've seen him tear it up on a kit and he definitely has chops, but like The4thGuy said, he is very disciplined :)
Does the kit come with the gig bags? which actually seem to be good for muting
szooereo yes they do!
Yup..I was thinking the same thing.
Damn. That d’angelo feeeel
I`ve got a record by his old man on Crimson records: "ive had it " Lee Andrews and the hearts"
background at 0:23 gretsch kit right behind him
Look! My next kit. :)
I use a sonor pocket kit. If you're playing bar gigs with a sub, a 16" kick is all you need. You have waaaay more control in a club with a 16" kick than a 22". Tighter sound, no drowning out band mates, and you're not killing your audience with a huge kick sound. With a 16", so much more control with tone and volume. Again, this is if you're using a sub woofer. If you're not, 22" would be the way to go.
Fair.
If you want to hear more of these drums, I just bought this kit and have made a studio recording of it. Here it is: th-cam.com/video/iPTlvo43bn8/w-d-xo.html
huge....big up...
Just bought this kit and I really love it but it took a while to get that snare to sound decent. You might get a kick out of my first attempt...it sounds like a lawn mower starting up the way I play it! I may have to re-film my little solo video on TH-cam. Since I play a lot of jazzier things I wasn't sure if this would be a good kit for my needs but it is very versatile and works well with jazz, funk, reggae and Latin music. Can't beat the price either. Glad Guitar Center is still carrying these. So cool! BTW, I was in Guitar Center's first drum off way back in 1990 (check out the video in my channel). That's almost 30 years ago!
This is the only video, where the snare sounds great cranked up high.
Why is it different to the other videos....heads or micing ?
Much lv QL...
Those gigbags serve as nice muters, however I don't think it would be ethically possible to put one around the bass drum lol (pedal and gear in the way) anyway was wishing Ludwig would resell those velvet storage bags, as mine got the crap kicked out of them. I have had them for about ten years now. Haven't once replaced a skin. Gotta rock the Questlove drumsticks by zyldjian to be fair!
Vibes cost nothing cheers
399.00 ?? yeah, this will be my next kit for my acoustic gigs..
Man im so torn on this ludwig breakbeats kit or a sonor martini kit.. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
ME TOO!!
I just got my Martini kit. It's really nice! Sounds great. But I chose it because I wanted the smallest playable kit for practice and lite jamming. Sooooo, super compact traditional style kit? Get the Martini.
David Erskine I've got the Sonor Sonic Plus ii.
David Erskine I owned both. I prefer the breakbeats by far.
both are terrible, get Pearl Midtown
Think about THE "break" (Clyde stubblefield) his "solo" was what all know now as " a break" no craziness just the beat and that made everyone lose their freakin mind!
do u ship to Canada? this kit is perfect for me.
i see what u mean. why change perfection though? his beats are so tight and sound quantized theyre so perfect
How do these compare to the Gretsch Catalina Club kits?
it's like the pearl rhythm traveler
When will these be available for purchase?, i live in the UK.
What’s the name of the thing over the hi hat so he could muted it?
What do y'all have your breakbeats tuned to?
Has anyone heard these used for a country rock sound? We just got another guitarist so we need to make more room in the truck haha, Thanks for the help!
I use them for Rock for sure .. I even have a double kick on them ... why not eh ?
just strap the new guitarist to the outside!
This kit is going to be more punchy than that Gretsch kit, just due to the fact that it's a smaller kit. Gretsch 18" BD vs Ludwig 16" BD. Gretsch kit is made of Mahogany, I'm not sure what the Ludwig kit is made from, but at the price point it's at I don't think it Mahogany (not talking down on it). I think they can be tuned to sound roughly the same.
I've had a kit in the exact same sizes (except for a 5" x 13" snare), that was custom-made for me by DW, since 2007. Hey Ludwig, it ain't nothing new!!!
theyre not pretending its something unheard of though...
where can i buy new questlove breakbeats drum covers?
What are the cymbals he uses when he demonstrates the muted set-up?
he means space for storing them at the apartment between gigs...
A drumset for people who live in a dense environment like NYC where apartments are small and public transportation is the easiest and most inexpensive way to get around.
Ok, so you can fit the kit, but how are you going to fit that 'fro?
Hi Guitar Center,
What mics did you guys use on the kit in this video?
And what hihat + cymbal series?
@@hmm4959 got one from you :)
That bass pedal sounds huge! LOL Seriously, I have no room to talk about misspeaking ...the worst here. Any rate, I am ordering this in white sparkle.
I work at gc it sounds so good we sold it the day after we set it up , trust. ..it goes! It kills any of the other hip gigs for less money believe that ;) not an opinion fact don't believe me then go find one , ?Uesto!
Are they good for recording on a sound track
Quick question: how exactly is Quest tuning his drums in the first couple shots? He seems to be hitting the center while tuning, rather than near the rim. I see some drummers doing this when setting up, and it seems pretty different to how I was taught (going around the rim, matching pitches, etc.). Is this a different technique?
Knowing Questlove's snare sound (it's really consistent) he probably knows how to tune a snare based on feel (maybe even turns). When you know what type of sound you want, you can generally hit the center and tune to the sound you want.
Hit it from the center, listen to where each overtone is coming from. Tune each lug to create the same overtones from all around the drum. This is how I tune marching bass drums, cause they're large and require tonal tunings, but the same can be applied to smaller drums, it just requires good ears.
damn this kit looks and sounds so awesome! its priced at $399.99 - save $219 off list. what does off list mean? will it only be $399.99 for a limited time?
How is he getting that sound on the bass drum!?!?!?
Jack Williams I'm with this guy
High tuning!
Tuning. Head selection. Tuning.
available in other colors or would i have to rewarp it?
Does anyone realize that this kit is EXACTLY like the Safari Sonor used to make? Even has the same(ish) finish.
"and 14 x 16 is the size of the errr...kick pedal" lol dat pedal!
He switched to Ludwig last year.
JIV positive!
