I am your average 3k M+ pugger. Every season I think to myself that I'll just tank M+, but then rather quickly I tend to get overly anxious when doing it. And then going back to dps.
On one hand it’s definitely telling that there’s a gameplay problem for tanks when streamers who are known for being god tier tanks like yoda and dorkie spend half the season playing as dps, but on the other hand every TH-camr, podcaster, and streamer complaining about new tanks and calling everyone who doesn’t meet their expectations “bad tanks” doesn’t really foster a healthy environment for encouraging anyone to learn to tank. Part of the reason there’s no tanks that meet peoples expectations is that is because they are actively encouraged to quit tanking before they ever get to that point.
@@roninkoans6065 ive mained blood dk and mage since basicslly vanilla and raided from wrath onward. I played mage and dk equally through cata in raif. Main tanked through mop except soo where i played mage. Mted all through wod, legion and tier 1 bfa, quit until SL, did s1 SL on bdk. Vame back and did all of dragon flight tanking on bdk. This season i felt i needed to go dps because 1) frost is meta 2) dire state of tanking 3) out of control toxicity when playerd miss kickd and blame the tank. 4) just randomoy dying through defensives and feeling weaker than i ever have as a tank.
Yes, everything you mentioned just piles up on top of all the changes that happened in game. And when you sum up everything, it doesn't bring us to a good place :(
I enjoy the playstyle of tanking where you plan your defensives around your pulls. Unfortunately, the tanks with "rolling" cooldowns like warrior with 2 stacks of shieldwall talent and paladins can just roll the dungeon rotating through their defensive cooldown timings. Difficulty seems to be the wall for most people. I agree completely with Dragonflight spoiling. Enjoyed the conversation nice episode.
This season was the worst season since they launched m+ especially for tanking missing a defensive gets you 1 shot blizz really delivered on we ant tank dmg to be smooth not spiky also healers didn't really swap from Dragonflight mentality they barely even try to heal tanks if you die as a tank you wipe the group you gotta plan the route deal with affixes intrerupt casts cause dps ignore intrerupts the dungeon rewards you 1 item from 10 dungeons in rest 50g people can't really be bothered to take so much responsability to top it off blizz posted tank nerfs for next season to give tank players a reason to play gj
Tanks are the least of the problems to make healing relevant. 1) healing is by % less effective than MOST expansions EVER. 2) the reason healing was irrelevant in low key DF was because of coordination of CC and defensive bloat on high util classes (mage for example) 3) at certain points in m+ one shotting will always happen. Its a matter of how early and how prohibitive it can be. With these 3 points we can effectively say blizzard had the right idea but targeted the wrong role. Blizzard did good by nerfing tank busters but the overall changes to tank survivability, especially after 10+ years of tanks being self sustainable, seems like s major rug pull and has taken away a lot of the skill expression in tanking. Pair that with the change to CC interrupts its even more on the tank than ever before for a party to succeed. Im not suprised tankd quit tanking. I only just now returned to bdk tanking because of community needing more tanks.
I play tank, i don't main it, but because of the crest system, it's really annoying to gear up, you need to do like 100 dungeons to get geared, and i already play DPS and healer too, and just can't be bothered
Was recommended your podcast by the youtube gods and I am enjoying it. Keep making these videos homies
Thank you very much! We shall do our best :)
My favorite poddy with one of my favorite tanks. Love it!
Cheers and thanks for tuning in! Happy new year :)

Unfortunately that's totally understandable

Practising tanking and routes is just generally a bad experience, especially if one is not that great of a player

I’m a prot warrior main. For me, I enjoy playing tank to beat the content. Once I “beat” the content, I quit until the next season.
Understandable. Imagine if the content was a bit more engaging though and you wouldn't have to quit!

It definitely feels like they've missed the mark, especially on the "smooth and not spikey" damage part. And it seems they always do that :(

We can assume then that if you play all 3 roles, the tank would be the least favorite one :(
