You guys are wrong about crafting and the early game. If you could craft everything from the start, you'd get too powerful too quickly, forcing the game to buff bosses and content. This would hurt casual players who don't engage with crafting or vendors early on. The balance is perfect as it is-Acts 1 and 2 are well-paced, and the real power spike hits in Act 3. But that’s when things speed up too much, and the game goes from methodical to one-shotting bosses and speed-running. Personally, I’m not a fan of the endgame in its current state.
I don't mind the trial system as it stands, but the real issue is that you have to repeat all four stages just to reach the boss you need. It's a huge time sink-grinding through the same stages over and over, dying to the boss because you don’t know its mechanics, and then being forced to go through all four stages again. In the Lab, we only had to do it once; we didn't have to complete three runs before the fourth.

Great podcast. I hope GGG see this (they probably will). Constructive criticism, great ideas for improvement, a lot of very deserved praise where it fits. As for mapping, I agree there should be some better goals, people think the 1000 node passive tree is confusing but you have the atlas with infinite nodes and you gotta pick a path in there, that's just insane. I love the idea of it (just like I love the monolith in last epoch, I think the comparison is pretty fair, they clearly combined the best of maps, delve, and some added spice from monoliths), but there should be something more to do than just "do 10 tier # maps". love the ideas of getting hints about bosses/unique maps/whatever and following them for like 5-10 maps, kinda like memories in poe1 but way better, and fitting nicely into the world and lore. Lots of stuff for endgame expansions with that too. And just gonna throw that out there, they literally made this entire thing basically from scratch (they had tilesets and bosses and such but no mechanics or anything) in 9 months, including a bunch of league mechanics and pinnacle bosses, I think that's an insane achievement. Balance is out of whack, some choices are rushed, but that's what early access is for. I'm sure I'll do hundreds more maps before the flaws of the system actually start getting to me. I definitely want larger biomes too. It's a great idea but they're just so tiny, like 3-4 maps at most. And that atlas passive node that gives bonuses based on the biome should just be built in, scaling with tier (so like 5% more currency in forest at t1, but 50% at t10 and 80-100% t16/17/whatever the highest is, should say it when you hover over the biome like delve with mods in certain zones) Just please let me zoom out more! The map is beautiful (even zooming in to reveal static billboards didn't really phase me, it's admirable they went this far with the visuals) but finding my way is awful. Search and stuff is fine but it's clearly made to be pretty, I want to see a lot of it at once. Maybe there's performance concerns but I'd live with 20fps if it meant I could just admire the view. Also the world feels weirdly small in general because of the tiny biomes. It's really more of a concept of a map than an actual map/view of the world. I mean it works, but there's a lot of room for improvement. Which is why we have the early access.
It would be really cool if biomes were designed as large clusters, with clear pathways in each direction leading to the biome of your choice. An artistically designed visual map could showcase the biomes with distinct variety, making exploration feel both intuitive and visually engaging.

It feels like they reverted back to their mindset back when the game came out. Support gems and crafting materials were too rare, but their marketing for the game was telling people about how currency is the crafting items! Dont spend them, use them on your items! Support gems are so cool and unique! Except they are so rare, so good luck. I think one of the best changes they made was when they started giving out support gems. It feels so similar, they are telling people not to hoard your crafting materials but we aren't given enough to actually craft a lot during the game. Last Epoch's way is the best if you want people to actually craft often and early. I was/am always changing out gear while leveling as it's so easy and I am getting more frequent upgrades.
I think the thing that isn't super mentioned with blood mage is that you have to spec into crit HARD in the early game to consistently have those life orbs popping up to keep yourself at 2x life and not have to worry about spell costs. Boneblast Bloodmage seems like one of the more consistent ways to get that, should also work with spark and a lot of other multi-hit spells
I thought PoB sounded way too complicated and just “ugh, I don’t wanna do that.” Then I jumped in. It’s not that bad, and it’s actually satisfyingly-OCD-planning-tweaking fun.
I did spark flame wall through whole campaign and still doing it in maps I tried the cast on shock and shock build but did not like it very much so I swapped to increase damage getting rid of shock and crit. Now blasting maps with this build and doing massive damage with arch mage full damage. 3.2k mana feels so good Those 2 birds if you walk in slowly you can spawn only 1 don’t have to spawn both haha found that out after like 6th death
For the two rares mentioned around 28:51, you can spawn one at a time by hugging one wall, letting one spawn, kite it out and fight it solo before dealing with the other
One thing about the Scorpion fight. You absolutely should step on the platforms. Yes each one is a different trap but you can know which is which and it ends his dive phase immediately and makes him kinda stand there for a second. For example one just spawns a bunch of little scarabs which you can 1 shot with AOE attacks. Makes it easy to refill flasks . If you let him keep diving around not only can you not actually dps him but he fills the entire arena with those stupid whirlpools.
What about rather than every map having a boss, tablets can have a boss modifier, which can hit maps with bosses, then there are towers overlapping which means there can be maps with 3 bosses and then you have the way the atlas tree interacts with tablets for more than 3 bosses?
From what I understand GGG was saying months back, th socket system in items are a replacement for crafting bench that was used to fix our resistance.... why in the world cant we change what we put into sockets then? Who thaught that was a good idea?
@00:48:40 Tier unid means modifiers are always above that tier. Tier 1 means all modifiers are always above T1. Tier 5 means all modifiers are always above T5.
Really love Ziggy's idea about each trial being a boss fight which is thematically and mechanically tied to what the ascendancy may give you. Great idea IMO.
Lol, winging... you mean the neccessary feedback to unfuck the game, which they got in the closed betas we were in and they choose to ignore until now.
I am not trying to ignore anyone. I simply pointed out how positive this discussion was , without ever going below the belt line. Constructive feedback with small brainstorming sessions equals good usable feedback. My winging comments relate to everyone who simply complain about the state of the game without ever giving a shred of feedback on how to improve it. Most of the time feedback is delivered with profanity in a form of entitlement which is disrespectful to ggg and I am so over it.
I currently run a molten blast warrior with crossbow on switch with oil grenades. When you use scattershot with two hammers, it actually affects each Hammer individually and you get six molten blasts
I'm lvling a HCSSF warrior and so far it's been pretty smooth, I'm actively using a weaponswap crossbow with Armour Piercing Rounds for bosses, but surprisingly Basic Bolt does very comfortable damage to (especially white) mobs and even bosses when I have to leave melee range for a bit. Whenever a mob runs away from me, I just take a few shots at it while continuing to move forwards, rather than chase it like a Heavy Strike marauder with no other buttons.
Executioner is the first boss to teach you tracking. He charges up his one slam. Blackjaw teaches you dodge roll and positioning also. His movement is very slow during his slams and you can dodge roll around him. He punishes for trying to stay at range. He kinda teaches you that you can stay right next to a boss even as a ranged character as long as you dodge.
Loved the chat guys keep up the good work. I had the same idea about completing special events to complete maps. They will take this feedback and make improvements accordingly. That is what is great about GGG. No matter how upset ppl get I sit here knowing they will improve it or fix it in a way no one expects and that is more clever than anything we could come up with.
@taylon5200 Ya we are spoiled honestly. I've just been rerolling toons and avoiding endgame until patch. In act 2 with a ranger now and I'm taking her all the way.
For the boss on map, just do a 2 part maps, first you have to clear the maps then you have/can clear the boss (so you need to re-enter the map) if you want to progress and maybe you can do something on the map part before to influence/buffs the boss part of the maps.
Both the mini roguelike games are fun and provide a nice way to change up the gameplay. However, I can understand the frustration of having the ascendancies tied to them.
It is really interesting because from someone who didn't really enjoy poe 1 because of how hard it is to get into as a new player I really enjoy poe 2.
All this podcast and feedback is going to help a lot, so this amazing game can get even better They are listening to the comunity and they love the game , this only can get better
I appreciate the fact that ziggyD seems to have actually paid attention to the game, I agree with Tuna on enjoying no PoB. Honestly if they werent keeping PoE1 I'd say the zooming and booming would need to come up but if thats how you want to play I would say just play PoE1. PoE2 def needs some tweaks but I love that it feels imo different to PoE1
I feel like my stat of focusing on peimary defences and damage instead of making my resists oead me to a setup where i'm really comfortable geading from campaign into early maps
i had the same boots in a3 cruel that i got from a1 normal because they had low, but triple res and life. definitely felt the pain of lack of upgrades over the first weekend.
On topic of massive zones - I like most of them. What I hate is when the zone has 4 exits, you go through one for 30s to pick up waypoint, go back and the massive zone is reset. The reset zone timer should be 8-15 minutes since last person was in it, not that if I was in the zone for 20 minutes cause it is massive, it resets randomly once you leave it for a second.
42:33 I had a staff I found at level 4 that I used for the entire campaign, gloves I found at level 19, boots I found at level 20, and an amulet will spell skills at 30, all used for the entirety of my progress until I got to maps. The fact that I used a staff from levels 4-66 (because literally no loot I found would roll better) is just so insane to me. (I have 1000 hours in poe 1 so I was looking for upgrades as I went along but did not use poe trade until I got to maps).
1:27:02 I really think you should be able to comfortably get all 4 sets of points before tier 8-10 maps. Also, Djinn Baryas are nonexistent. I’ve gotten 10+ ultimatums since I reached endgame, and not one coin.
The fat hoodie guy’s gimmick of wearing a hoodie is a really good gimmick. It’s that easy to make yourself into a cartoon and sell it, folks I also really love the nervous laughter from the speaker after every point
In the two birds fight you don't spawn both at the same time. You can go to middle of the arena you spawn one and the second at the far edge. If your struggling you can just spawn one of them.
Here i am…all my gear is from act1 and i never found a unique. But i know, im the unluckiest person in the universe. Maybe im the Devil and thats the reason i never had luck. Give me a pool with 999 prizes and one rivet and i found on the first try the rivet. 🤣
i don't feel strongly about it personally but. the argument for not allowing ascendancy re-spec that makes sense to me is that they want you to re-roll and experience the progression from the start if you want to play something different.
@@c-tothefourth4879ascension is easy for first 6 points (unless you are a warrior and don't have totems for some reason) and impossible for 7-8th points, so I guess "hard" on average? 😂
My first "two birds" fight was the other having shocked ground and the other with chilled ground. They were leaping on me so that I was perma chilled and couldn't even roll away properly while being perma shocked and I died miserably. AND BECAUSE THEY'RE RARES I DIDN'T GET TO HAVE MY REVENGE BECAUSE THEY REROLL! D:
good points about the issues with ascension - what about this approach? make it tied to accomplishing some sort of list of achievements that are specific to a different aspect of the game instead of location? for example something like: trial of sakhemas = trial of micro and reflexes = kill 3 unique bosses with perfectly timed ability and/or dodge their 'onehit' with dodge roll trial of chaos = trial of build/gearcheck = survive for over n time/waves in something like simulacrum trial of the TBD = trial of wits? = answer some sort of ingame quizz based on mechanics and lore
My biggest gripe about the new Atlas is the loss of agency in the end game. I feel like we fought for that agency in POE 1 and the devs never really wanted us to have it. Poe2 gives them the ability to take it away again.
My huge suggestion. Get rid of move speed on boots. And instead make it bonuses you can get in the tree and as quest rewards. Because boots without move speed are dead and that sucks.
I have a feeling that would feel even worse, the passive tree is already a limited choice that boosts your account a ton. Having it implicit on all boots removes any fear of no move speed boots and also frees up mods on boots to get more interesting choices.
1:00:38 maybe runes should be split into more armor slot types, so maybe there is a rune that gives movement speed but only when socketed into boots. Then essences could stay similiar to now (and make runes removable)
another things to add. they need to tell you about drowning orbs from the River hags. I was killed to this on my first act 3 character and had no idea what killed me since I was tanking warrior taking nearly no damage. this was shocking and really upset me haha.
I must have gotten stupidly lucky, i just got to maps yesterday after needing to reroll in act 5 due to nerfs, and my starting atlas had 10 boss nodes and a burning monolith right there. Granted, im not going the monolith any time soon but all those bosses really helped my early progression
What ascendancies do you guys think is best for weapons outside that class? Im currently campaigning as a bow/quarterstaff weapon switching merc witchhunter for more weapon points and the culling/decimating perks
How do people go about learning ARPGs? I’d love to be able to theory craft builds, but I feel like without knowing everything available…major tree nodes / uniques / gems … it’d hard to even begin to dream anything up. Is this just a lot of reading ahead of me?
Just play through blind and you can make another character later, all the early access characters will be locked on a different server when game releases anyway, and it's still going through alot of balancing
Start simple, add complexity later. Work on the bones of whatever class you want, then flesh it out once you’ve got all the important stuff down. Minion build? Start witch or sorcerer, grab any minion skills that sound fun. Experiment with them. Grab minion passives on the passive tree, then branch out from there. As you get further into the game, you’ll figure out what works and what doesn’t, what feels nice, and what you specifically like. And as you get further, more things become available and your options grow, letting you add more complexity to your build as you go. I’d just dive in, and try to have fun with it, and do what feels the most fun to you.
Make a simple build, go to other people that are building the same as you, and check what they're doing to improve yours slowly as you progress. With time you'll be getting better
The thing about poe 2 is that now its out i can play something else in poe 1 that's not melee. So now i can play frost blades, lightning strike, essense drain, detonate dead, ele hit, tornado shot. Builds i hated but now poe 2 has freed me.
Maven Invitations to Ascend. But not when you kill bosses in Maps. They could take the optional bosses from the campaign for it because you will only do them in your first run and then never again except you randomly encounter them and you try to get some loot.
GGG should implement premade loot filters with very generic filtered items on a light/moderate/strict scale which hides the most obvious items at each threshold. That way people don't have to leave the game to create/install filters.
I like that we don't have POB from start. Poe 2 have made it really easy to make decent builds based on intuition alone. I don't have the patience for POB now at a such an early stage of the game. However when POB finally releases it will probably be a fun addition to use together with my own experiences.
44:02 - I’m in cruel act 2, I have gotten… 3-4 alchemy orbs, 4 essences, 20 ish exalts, and 3 uniques. I also only ran into ritual in the act 1 map… not sure if that’s intentional. Almost all my gear is from a vendor.
What is a white base shield? I could really use a shield with spirit on it since I need just 2 more spirit to be able to summon 4 arsonists. I'm in end of act 2
I have seen quite a few people coming up with several sorceress builds that seemed effective post nerf, with all three elements. Maybe they don't delete the screen in 2 seconds, but those builds will just get nerfed. Already they are putting out a patch that is making freezing harder.
I'm so glad they talked about this, because I currently think it's one of the things I disagree with most about the game "direction" thus far: Ascendancy points should be available and achievable by 90%+ of the playerbase. Not 1% or less.
I only had 2 essences through normal. I agree with tuna on currency drops. I really wish they would up drop rates of things like exalts so that crafting your own gear was still more accessible. The trade economy should come second and will balance out later on, but at least give us the items to craft as we go. That is a core part of PoE and what could make the game great. Being able to make 1 or 2 items and feeling like you can't upgrade those slots is a bad feeling.
AUGS need slightly lower drop rate and should work for Affix TWO-THREE instead of only two. To me, this would have a VERY positive effect on crafting and risk/reward analysis of spending exalts to craft instead of trade.
Good stuff. On the ascendancy part I think they’re planning on having you get 10 points across acts 2-6, with 2 points per act. They’re using ascendancy as a way to introduce end game mechanics and the reason it’s so frustrating is the 6th and 8th points are HUGE barriers to class power. By full release, this problem will naturally disappear.

I thought PoB sounded way too complicated and just “ugh, I don’t wanna do that.”
Then I jumped in. It’s not that bad, and it’s actually satisfyingly-OCD-planning-tweaking fun.
PoB is my third favorite game after PoE and PoE2 😂
I did spark flame wall through whole campaign and still doing it in maps I tried the cast on shock and shock build but did not like it very much so I swapped to increase damage getting rid of shock and crit.
Now blasting maps with this build and doing massive damage with arch mage full damage. 3.2k mana feels so good
Those 2 birds if you walk in slowly you can spawn only 1 don’t have to spawn both haha found that out after like 6th death
For the 2 birds, if you just creep in slowly, you can just get 1 to spawn, then kill it, then spawn the other! Discovered that on the 3rd try.
During the Count fight in the mist every time he finishes a sentence you dodge, easy as.
bring this one to spotify please
you can actually pull those birds in act 2 one at a time if you walk in slow on either side of the room
From what I understand GGG was saying months back, th socket system in items are a replacement for crafting bench that was used to fix our resistance.... why in the world cant we change what we put into sockets then? Who thaught that was a good idea?
Ziggy does a great job moderating! Watch and learn, podcasters.
@00:48:40 Tier unid means modifiers are always above that tier.
Tier 1 means all modifiers are always above T1.
Tier 5 means all modifiers are always above T5.
Interesting
The lever doesn’t start the lava.
Really love Ziggy's idea about each trial being a boss fight which is thematically and mechanically tied to what the ascendancy may give you. Great idea IMO.
This was a fantastic blast cast. So much positivity in general, is so nice in contrast to all the winging you see online.
80% of all the discussions are positive everywhere maybe except reddit
Lol, winging... you mean the neccessary feedback to unfuck the game, which they got in the closed betas we were in and they choose to ignore until now.
@@totallynottrademarked5279 oh I was hoping not to hear even more unconstructive winging.
@@thomasjay2694
They’re literally patching the game around these players you’re trying to ignore lol
But good luck yelling at clouds
I am not trying to ignore anyone. I simply pointed out how positive this discussion was , without ever going below the belt line. Constructive feedback with small brainstorming sessions equals good usable feedback. My winging comments relate to everyone who simply complain about the state of the game without ever giving a shred of feedback on how to improve it. Most of the time feedback is delivered with profanity in a form of entitlement which is disrespectful to ggg and I am so over it.
What a Pog lineup, thanks for this gents! I needed something to listen to at work 🍻
Excellent conversation, Gentlemen.
28:00 for the 2 rare bird in act 2, if you inch forward slowly you can get them to jump down one at a time
I currently run a molten blast warrior with crossbow on switch with oil grenades.
He kinda teaches you that you can stay right next to a boss even as a ranged character as long as you dodge.
for the 2 birds fight you can stagger walk very carefully and only summon 1 of them at once
Youre not exactly wrong. I fully trust ggg, but i love poe2 way too much right now and want to see good changes way faster than its possible ahah
Doesn't the level activate the lift to get into the arena, not activate the lava flow.
Both the mini roguelike games are fun and provide a nice way to change up the gameplay. However, I can understand the frustration of having the ascendancies tied to them.
Im on tier 5 maps and i didnt onow greater essences were items until this poscast mentioned them.
It is really interesting because from someone who didn't really enjoy poe 1 because of how hard it is to get into as a new player I really enjoy poe 2.
Great podcast, would love more like this.
All this podcast and feedback is going to help a lot, so this amazing game can get even better
They are listening to the comunity and they love the game , this only can get better
I agree the count is the best fight in the game. They really went over with the arena, abilities and sound design.
i had the same boots in a3 cruel that i got from a1 normal because they had low, but triple res and life. definitely felt the pain of lack of upgrades over the first weekend.
27:47 - the two birds you can actually pull individually, if you just approach very slowly!
1:27:02 I really think you should be able to comfortably get all 4 sets of points before tier 8-10 maps. Also, Djinn Baryas are nonexistent. I’ve gotten 10+ ultimatums since I reached endgame, and not one coin.
That's funny cause I've gotten tons of coins and no ultimatums 😂
The fat hoodie guy’s gimmick of wearing a hoodie is a really good gimmick. It’s that easy to make yourself into a cartoon and sell it, folks
I also really love the nervous laughter from the speaker after every point
In the two birds fight you don't spawn both at the same time. You can go to middle of the arena you spawn one and the second at the far edge. If your struggling you can just spawn one of them.
When was this recorded? 12/13?
Act 2 normal has a huge drought of items in general compared to the others. I know a ton of people who were still using level 10 items way into act 3
Here i am…all my gear is from act1 and i never found a unique. But i know, im the unluckiest person in the universe. Maybe im the Devil and thats the reason i never had luck. Give me a pool with 999 prizes and one rivet and i found on the first try the rivet. 🤣
Maybe it is patched already, but I got a lot of stuff dropped in act 2
On the other hand, act 1 was very painful for my monk
Fyi, Herald of Ash + heavy stun setup, into Boneshatter, wipes the screen. I started Warrior and have had zero problems into T3 maps now.
i don't feel strongly about it personally but. the argument for not allowing ascendancy re-spec that makes sense to me is that they want you to re-roll and experience the progression from the start if you want to play something different.
People’s main opposition to that is ascending is so hard. Fix that and people wouldn’t mind as much.
Yep specific target slot machine. Mephisto was buriza and soj. Baal was windforce. If u want it go get it. After 2 weeks of super farming lol
good points about the issues with ascension - what about this approach? make it tied to accomplishing some sort of list of achievements that are specific to a different aspect of the game instead of location? for example something like: trial of sakhemas = trial of micro and reflexes = kill 3 unique bosses with perfectly timed ability and/or dodge their 'onehit' with dodge roll
trial of chaos = trial of build/gearcheck = survive for over n time/waves in something like simulacrum
trial of the TBD = trial of wits? = answer some sort of ingame quizz based on mechanics and lore
My biggest gripe about the new Atlas is the loss of agency in the end game. I feel like we fought for that agency in POE 1 and the devs never really wanted us to have it. Poe2 gives them the ability to take it away again.
My huge suggestion. Get rid of move speed on boots. And instead make it bonuses you can get in the tree and as quest rewards. Because boots without move speed are dead and that sucks.
Can allow 30% move in tree that doesn't stack with boots so you have options
I have a feeling that would feel even worse, the passive tree is already a limited choice that boosts your account a ton. Having it implicit on all boots removes any fear of no move speed boots and also frees up mods on boots to get more interesting choices.
At that point just make all characters 30% faster. The point on the tree and the quest would be mandatory for every single build
If there is no reason not to get it, there is every reason to make it passive.
Much prefer their suggestion of making it an implicit modifier on boots which gets better on higher level bases.
1:00:38 maybe runes should be split into more armor slot types, so maybe there is a rune that gives movement speed but only when socketed into boots. Then essences could stay similiar to now (and make runes removable)
Who’s the red hoodie guy must be a new streamer trying to copy that blue hoodie giga chad rax :>
another things to add. they need to tell you about drowning orbs from the River hags. I was killed to this on my first act 3 character and had no idea what killed me since I was tanking warrior taking nearly no damage. this was shocking and really upset me haha.
Pretty telling that almost no content creators are playing warriors. Yes, I know there are a few, but the skew is pretty stark.
There were essences in Act 1 and 2? I didnt start finding them until act 3
I haven't seen any. Just started act 3
Doing the watchtowers should reveal eveything in maps. Rare mobs, rare chest, league mechanics, strongboxes.
What really sucks about items, when you get a unique that's level 11 several times in Chaos...
Where are the uniques in poe2?! Actually i never found one. 😅😂
Can we get the ascendies in something other than poe 1 season mechanics? How about something different?
Thanks yall, similar sentiments all around. Appreciate it
Ziggy got this channel a Sub from me. He's Legendary
The GOATS, what a f'in lineup! 🙌
The thing about poe 2 is that now its out i can play something else in poe 1 that's not melee. So now i can play frost blades, lightning strike, essense drain, detonate dead, ele hit, tornado shot. Builds i hated but now poe 2 has freed me.
I wish the highlights of search on the skill tree was way more visible
I really hope the PoE 2 devs watch this because it’s a goldmine of great feedback!! I agreed with so much of what you guys said. Great podcast.

Great pod - thanks gents!
Did not know ye have the Maxroll channel, cool :))
