Thanks a lot, saved me lot of time. Just a suggestion, instead of restart/shut down you could check if password is removed by locking screen Windows+L and then try unlock.
Hey in short words: go to change password,enter you current password,click next,then there is an option of adding a password and a space for the hint, leave the password space blank and click NEXT...now your PC doesent have a password

thank you so much, my issue was that the PC was jumping to desktop if i woke it from sleep mode. this fixed it!

For everyone that it doesn't work for.
Go to your account settings and where it has your microsoft account at the top there is a "Disconnect" button right beneath that, click it and proceed to not type in any password and it should work from there.
doesnt work, when trying to change the password it open a microsoft window with my mail on the top.
fkn microsoft and their accounts
go to "your account info" and choose "local account intead", set up a local password and then go to sign in options and change the password and leave the new password blank
because as long as your windows is connected to your microsoft account, you can't remove the password entirely

I changed from microsoft to local account and it wants you to verify if it is you. Type in your current password but then leave the new password space blank. Click sign out and finish
