5:16 When I click command prompt, it forces me to put in an administrator password which I don't know :( so I can't access the command prompt. Is there any solution to this?
As of 16/02/2022, this general process still works on windows 10. It is true that you no longer can access a system-wide command prompt in the very beginning to rename files like he did in the same way he shows you, but there are still other ways, namely using a usb-stick that has windows installation media on it, then in the BIOS booting your computer through that usb stick. Once your windows is in the boot up menu for windows 10, press shift + f10, and it brings up the command prompt. Then just follow his steps for the rest of the video and it'll work.
This also happened to me. I created another account (since I could still access my laptop via pin)and set it as the admin in settings. Then I used the password for that account to get pass it.
Kirt your solution is very detailed and easy to follow, but I cannot get into the Command Prompt from the Advanced Options Window. When I select Command Prompt, I get two options. Option 1 is to "Choose an account to continue". If I select my account, I am asked for a password. Option 2 says "Forgot your password or don't see your account?". If I select this, it basically says that accounts listed are only admin accounts that have previously signed into this PC. And, you need to be signed in as an admin to use some repair and restore tools. Finally, it says that if you do not have a PW you can try restarting and logging in as an admin. It's worth noting that when I get to the Advanced Options window, the same options (as shown in your video) are available, but in a slightly different order. I know that should not matter, but I wonder if there was a Windows update that closed this loop hole. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Kirt, Just found your video. I needed to reset my administrator password windows 10 pro. I followed your video, but I got to a point when I clicked okay to confirm permissions change, I got a popup with full path to a file name in the system32 asking for confirmation regarding changing permissions. This repeated for what appears to be every file in every subfolder of system32. I clicked continue for quite a bit until I realized what I wrote before. Too many files to continue. I clicked cancelled the popup mentioned that this might leave the system in an unstable state. Isn't there a powershell command/gui command that would allow me to verify/correct permissions. Otherwise, I was able to change my password, but not rename utilman2.exe back to utilman.exe tx
I had a problem while applying the full control of the user acct. Windows security opens up and when i clicked yes it says error applying security information to C:\Windows\System32\0409

Finally you find an actual pro. I've been dabbling with the windows support for weeks with issues. You got a follow!
it says i need my password for command prompt
Me to
same
Same for me :((( anyone know how to pass this?
Same for me - needs password to change. Defeats the purpose!
Same for me. Running 1809. Might they have fixed the "bug" with an update?
Thank you so much Kirt. I too watched several other videos and you're the only one that offered clear step by step instruction to gain access to my laptop. You're awesome!
I got farther with this video than any other solution I've tried, however when I get to the applet window to change the password, everything is greyed out, and it says "the password for this user cannot be changed". And it is the only user set up.
Same happens to me, where you able to fix this?
jose manuel gomez unfortunately no. I spent a few days trying everything I could find. I ended up using the hp backup utility that works outside of windows, wiping the drive and reinstalling.
Thanks for sharing. I couldn’t boot via usb. It never recognized any usb I tried with pc unlocker, your video is the best one out there all the others were impossible to follow. Finally got in this pc for a friend who’s grandchild had added themselves as the administrator and with your video it worked!!! THANKS!!!! Actually it would not let me do anything with the password it would not let me reset the password so I used the cmd at the login to add a admin account without any password and restarted and it booted up. Thanks couldn’t have done it without your video.
Welcome 😊
Great video - lost admin password on home PC - once I watched the video a couple of times it was fairly quick to do
Glad it worked for you 😊
Thank you for a very detailed and thorough video. You have taught me something new and made it fun and personal. Thank you so much.
Welcome 😊
Its still asking me admin password to reachcommand prompt
I tried this, but when I tried to open command prompt in the automatic repair area, it asked for the administrators password, is there a way to bypass that?
I'm having the same issue here on an older work computer that I'm trying to get files off. Any luck?
excellent work...i did it step by step as you showed in the video and it worked...God bless you
Thank you 😊
Thank you so much for the help i was able to solve the password problem.. but the main problem that led me to the password problem was the permission to users, i have two users, i limited access to the public user but now i can't seem to edit the permission if i click edit the options are disabled like they appear in grey color like a shadow i can't do anything. I thought maybe if i reset my pc changes that i made would be restored instead i couldn't log in to my pc now i was able to reset the password but the i still can't edit users permissions.....
And another problem is with the typing. My keyboard works perfectly fine if i use typing documents but if i try to search for something it wont type, if i try to type WiFi password it wont type i don't know how to fix that. I thought maybe the window was outdated i updated the window but still wont type. I don't know what else to do...
I could really use your help. Thank u
Him: Yay! Now to reset everything ba- Me: No command prompt will stay there forever
Indeed!!
hello, you probably need to update this. you have to sign into your admin account to bring up command prompt in recovery mode.
only one error is coming Please Help at the last when i type control userpasswords2 then the option to Reset Password... is unclickable and it is written that To change Your Password, go to PC settings and select users
OMG! I followed your instructions and it worked perfectly. You're a lifesaver. Thanks a lot!

It's 2023 and this still works y'all! The only solution that worked for me. Thanks much, Kirt!!

Welcome 😊
Hi Kirt, you’re a lifesaver! 🙌 I really appreciate your clear, step-by-step instructions. I had been struggling to reset admin passwords on some older computers in our organization, set by the previous system admin. Thanks to your video, I was able to reset the passwords and complete the task successfully. 👍🔐 Glad I found your channel and just subscribed for more valuable learning content! ❤️
Now I’m going to set my own admin password, and the next system admin will check your video again to reset it! 😂😂😂
Thank you, and your wholesome victory reactions after the commands worked was exactly how I felt Inside, 🙂
I'm glad! 😊
The warning in the first makes my brain say that dont watch it 😂😂😂😂
I had a problem where ease of access didn't open up help?
EDIT: nevermind it just took some time to load

Absolutely brilliant thank you! Pity my IT guy set passwords on the menus and can't remember them!
Welcome 😊
I had a problem while applying the full control of the user acct. Windows security opens up and when i clicked yes it says error applying security information to C:\Windows\System32\0409
how do you solve that problem
Same thing happened to me
Thanks a lot man, this literally helped me retrieve my late father's life work. Much respect!
Welcome 😊
I thought it was supposed delete the data ?
@@LubaLuba1 No, it just deletes the password so you can access the profile
Hi Kirt, I followed to the letter now easy of access does nothing when I restart. It does not give me a command window. Please help
If you still have your Windows 10 disk I recommend booting from it and putting it into Repair mode.
@@KirtKershaw ok, I have 7, Then?
This is a Windows 10 machine will the 7 disk allow me access to change password?
My mistake. I meant Windows 10 :)
OK I have the 10 and can go into the cmd. I already did what you said in the video twice.
Help! What if when in CD prompt screen and I am at 'control userpasswords2' and I delete administrator because it would not highlight "reset password" when clicking on user....? Now it won't let me go further? saying Access is denied when I'm trying to change 'utilman2.exe back to utilman.exe?
Brilliant video 👍 thank you. Worked perfectly to sort out an old laptop which we had forgotten all of the passwords for esp Admin. Followed your instructions and it's sorted. Thank you
I can't get to the command prompt at the start--after selecting that option, I'm forced to choose an administrator account and type in the password. Win 10
I'm having the same problem. It works on my home computers but on my school computers it says "Attempting Automatic Repair" and then it says enter admin password like 10 seconds later
@@SnackKing1 I ended up reinstalling win 10.
J No wym reinstalling what did you do because I’ve have the same problem like you
@@TrollLivee I sacrificed everything that was on the hard drive and did a System Reset. www.techsupportalert.com/content/how-reinstall-windows-8-81-and-10-and-keep-your-data-and-programs-intact.htm
Download a copy of the operating system onto a thumb drive or CD-ROM using a different computer. Then follow the instructions to install it again, overwriting everything that was on the computer.
I made this choice since I had spent so much time trying to reset the password with no luck, and I didn't really need anything that was on the laptop. YMMV.
When go to cmd thats still need login into my account, oh damn.. maybe I should reinstall the windows
OMG it works.. Finally i can open my laptop. ty very very much
this is easy to do it! it's very simple but detail! Youre birilian! Thank you so much! for your tutorial! i hope you success in your jobs! 👍👍👍
You just saved me big time!
Glad it worked for you 😊
This was good but I like to use osk (on screen keyboard ) and then rename it to get into pc
Split hairs if you want, but so long as the results work, what difference does it make?
