Inside Out 2 Is Now Pixar's Highest Grossing Film...

  • I knew this was gonna happen, and yet it still surprised me when it happened. Inside Out 2 has officially surpassed Incredibles 2 as Pixar's highest grossing movie, and it could very well surpass the 2019 Lion King remake as the highest grossing animated movie of all time. How will this affect the future of Pixar's output? Only time will tell.

People are so extreme about this. One successful sequel doesn't mean its the end of Pixar.

Technically, the only thing everyone knew about from Frozen 2 was Into the Unknown. Into the Unknown blew up for a short while but its popularity died off in the pandemic

The only way Pixar can make original movies for the next decade or two is that Elio makes something like $700M-1B in the global box office because those numbers is what Pixar thinks is a success regardless if it broke even or not.

I loved Inside Out 2, although its a slight downgrade from its predecessor, its almost on par.
But I do get your concerns. Sequels sequels EVERYWHERE!

When you said "Safe Slop" I would rather say "Jell O" because my grandma says that whenever she refers to any old animated show from the 80s and 90s.

For everyone wondering no this does not mean that we dint get any original movies anymore. We will still get Elio and Ducks and some future original projects. Only because a sequel is a success, doesn't it mean that we'll only getting Sequels. I mean if thats the case when we wouldn't have gotten Raya and the last dragon, Encanto, Strange world and Wish only because Frozen 2 was a huge success

Honestly yeah it is kinda sad how Pixar is pretty much only gonna rely on sequels to be successful as it could end up getting stale. Not that I have a problem with sequels necessarily, but if youre gonna do it just for bucks without adding onto the story, then that’s where it becomes an issue. Thx for the analysis here :)
But as for the case with Inside Out 2, I thought it was decently executed and definitely the better of the Pixar sequels, or maybe even Disney sequels in general. Unlike most other Pixar movies, you can already add more to Inside Out since it involves Riley growing up and getting new emotions (I can definitely see nostalgia or lust coming into play). Maybe we can see Riley in her senior years if we get a 3rd movie and experience her passing away, but after that I think we should just end the trilogy. The point is is that there’s only so much you can do to sequels before a franchise gets stale, but we shouldn’t act like as if sequels are automatically bad. If it already feels like a conclusion or there’s already enough you can add to the story, just let it be.
Also, yeah I agree that Pixar should experiment more with new original and emotional ideas like how they did before Cars 2. But didn’t Elemental get more success after people believed it was Pixar’s biggest flop? If it happened to be that way, then I only hope for the same thing to happen with Elio and other future original work that Pixar churns out (if it happens to turn out good at least)

We get it, Inside Out 2 was known to be a very successful sequel Pixar has come up with in the 2020s, although Soul actually did deserve to win an Oscar, and Luca, Turning Red, and Elemental were also good, not to mention sequels like Toy Story 2, 3, and 4, Incredibles 2, and Finding Dory each has their share in becoming a success, and what do they mean this could actually save Pixar, other than some failed films (Cars 2 and Lightyear), Brave (ironically it won the Oscar back in 2013), yet why do some people think Onward and The Good Dinosaur were unsuccessful, because again, they shouldn't take "Everyone's a Critic" too literally, or in Hollywood's case, they have no right to make things worst with all those bad writing, and pandering to their audiences, basically, not all ideas were good ideas.
