Sorry but wrong. That's the other way around. The fan read an article somewhere confirming Disney's intention to make the spin off and thought "Oh, I can get tons of views on TH-cam if I make a video of that"
12:05 And there old Ben stood. A hermit living in the desert wastes. A man that had lost everything, a man broken by war and the great betrayal of his closest friend. His fellow Jedi brothers and sisters hunted down and slaughtered like animals. His connection to the force weakened by the sheer trauma and pain of it all. The sole protector of a boy that was the only hope for the future of the Jedi. “Drop it!” Ordered the stormtrooper. And then slowly he came to his senses. Igniting the blade of his fallen apprentice he began to effortlessly deflect the blaster bolts for a few moments old Ben was gone and in his place was Clone Wars Jedi general Obi-Wan Kenobi.
I think it was said somewhere they purposefully avoided using Star Wars music for the series. What an absolutely idiotic idea. Are you freaking kidding me .. WTF ... this pops up in my feed and I think it is a new trailer for a movie ... then I see it is 18 min trailer so I look at the comment section and my bubble gets burst. This is LIGHT YEARS better than some of the new Star Wars movies released.
I'd argue that it's even better than Star Wars in some ways. The pacing is very different from the official films. It almost plays like a classic western or even a European art house film. Star Wars, even at its best, has always had a frenetic pace to please the popcorn crowd. But this short film is both very mature in its presentation, as well as entertaining and to the point.
So much better, I came back after finishing the show because I wanted to watch some real quality fan fiction, other than that new Disney fan fiction, If you can even call them fans.
Only reason why it's better then the kenobi show is because this is not a disney movie where they nerf the blasters/lightsabers to the point they only graze a target on impact, (making it more child friendly) I think thats why people make out the storyline of disneys star wars to be kinda a joke like 3 times in the 3 movies Rey was supposed to die due to being hit with a lightsaber yet not once did she die. Oh and in the star wars timeline force heal was supposed to be a long lost jedi ability and she learns it in under 30 seconds of seeing a injured animal... yeah the storyline is shit but the fact remains disney owns the rights to star wars so what they say is cannon is cannon and it sucks.

In 1977, George gave us Star Wars. It was a gift. There have been ups & downs since then, but its spirit lives, especially in fine works such as this one-emblematic of fans’ way of saying thanks & passing that gift on...
It never occurred to me until right now that Owen and Beru probably wondered where Ben was when the storm troopers showed up in A New Hope. Gives the look of silent apology he gave Luke upon his return from finding the homestead burned a lot more weight in my mind.
in first five minutes it captures more authenticity to Star Wars than any of the Disney shows combined and has far better acting and writing than that of the Disney obi wan show, I’m thankful there are still people like you who actually care about Star Wars trying to create great things like this
18 plus minutes makes more sense than episode ix trying to wrap up mad plot hole from 3 movies in 2 plus hours. Most impressive! Faithful to the star wars lore
And don't forget, that small child who sat there watching a firefight, who blew up the death Star, who confronted his corrupted father and evil emperor, and who fought in a rebellion, just turned out to be an old coward. Really Disney?
The Last Jedi ruined the trilogy. If you completely wipe the 8th episode from your brain, the rise of skywalker is really good. I personally enjoyed it and thought it was the best of the trilogy. I know that’s not saying much lol, but I really enjoyed it
@@dwzenix7954 to be fair mate. The sequel trilogy has little to no light saber fights and just lot of wtf moments. Doesnt help when Rey is OP af and doesn't learn anything from anyone and just does jedi stuff on the fly cause she can.

The moment when he stops trying to make it happen and lets the Force take over. That's what Obi-Wan had forgotten: faith. "You mean it controls your actions?" "Partially. But it also obeys your commands." In other words: the people making this short *get* Star Wars--which is a lot more than we can say about DisneyWars in general.
Already better than a what we got from the official show! No annoying inconsistencies, no making th character do things he would never do. Just pure heart and respect, exactly why the fans often do better jobs than the actual studios that own them. I legit think George would be proud.
Only one small inconsistency, that Luke might have seen a Lightsaber before where it has not been established to be that way. But otherwise this fanmade film trumps over the official series in quality and character. And Luke could have forgotten that part by the age he has in Episode 4.
I know I'm nitpicking, but I just saw Jedi master Obiwan get boxed in the face and knocked tf out 🙄. Did he lose touch with the force in that cave or something? 😂
@@1Flyingfist Yeah I think that was the point, he had become disillusioned with his faith and disconnected from the Force up until the end when he has to fight to defend Owen, Beru and Luke, when he finally reconnects and is able to fully use his powers again.
I consider this canon. When I lead my kids + nephew and niece through the Star Wars films, this shall be shown between Solo and Rogue One. I have spoken.
Matthew Blom if your kids can follow the story, surely they'll be confused as to why Obi-wan is depicted here as having lost his connection when Yoda told Obi-wan that he would be continuing his training with Yoda and Qui-gon through the Force in order to retain his consciousness after death and in the comics is shown to have only grown more powerful, not less.
Wondering how many people came back to this to actually get good Kenobi content after seeing the disaster of the actual Kenobi series. Bless this short film. This is what the series should've been.
The way he executes that line, "Dead, I'm afraid. Some time now." He did a fantastic job with the kind of forced fake smile when you know how much that hurt him.
In many ways Obi Wan is the heart of the series, and always was from day one thanks to Alec Guinness. I think he'd look approvingly on this performance.
"Don't I know you from somewhere" says the most prolific Kenobi voice actor to the guy currently playing him. Nice touch. Also wish I could make a short film based on the premise of villains meeting their doom, & every time one screams in dismay, a fellow henchman shouts, "Wilhelm, noooo!"
Over a thousand generations of Jedi were the guardians of peace and justice in the old Republic. Before the dark times. Before the Empire. You make a great Obi Wan, Jamie!

That was one of my favorite moments. He had been doing well with his abilities up to that point, but in that moment he truly reconnected to the Force. It was his eyes and his ears. As he let it flow through him, his training came back to him.
Seeing Obi-Wan deflect the blaster shots with his eyes closed with such elegance was beautiful. Letting the years of experience and the force guide him in battle was wonderful.
I usually have a hard time enjoying Fan Films. They're too passionate, or get ahead of themselves. They focus more on action than story, or just want to show off their talent with VFX. But this was excellent. It really captured the feel of Star Wars. Taking itself seriously, but not *too* seriously. Humour wasn't forced. Music played as big a role as the actors. Story was short and sweet, and fit the pacing. Jamie you did an unbelievably good job evoking something closely between Ewan and Alec. I had to re-listen to some of the lines and wrack my brain to make sure it wasn't an audio dub. Seriously, everyone involved with this should be given jobs by Lucasfilm to continue producing top quality content in the Star Wars universe. Disney take note! This had more authenticity to the universe than anything JJ Abrams produced - with a fraction of the budget and a fraction of the 'spectacle'. A good story well told is so much better than flashy FX and explosions. Funny how a fan film on a modest budget has more authenticity to the original story then multi million dollar productions with limitless assets and talent. This was exactly what fans said back when Lucas made Revenge Of The Sith, and CNBC ran a segment that featured a FanFilm entitled "Star Wars- Revelations", which had a very low budget when it was made, yet won enough awards to drawl some attention to it, particularly for the fast paced scene of the space chase through an Imperial shipyard, which looked a 'lot' like the scene in Return Of The Jedi, where the ships are flying inside the second Death Star. The thing is, Lucas approved a LOT of the FanFilms, between the the early 2000's, to when he sold Star Wars to Disney, an act which came about when the so-called "fans" complained about how he (Lucas) was handling HIS story, telling him how bad of a job he was doing. Of course, to be honest, I was one who 'thought' he was doing a bad job simply because he constantly changed his story while doing the original trilogy, then screwed things up by re-editing the films and creating the special editions (1997), just so he could have it where Han didn't gun down Greedo from under the table (Han shot 'only') in cold blood, and that he could re-insert the scene of Han meeting Jabba at Docking Bay 94, a scene that has Han carelessly step on Jabba's tail......as in Jabba The Hutt....the most notorious crimelord gangster in the galaxy, and Han just steps on his tail without any problem from Jabba... You know what, the music absolutely blows away the Kenobi show on Disneys score.
Other than the main theme because John Williams. I agree otherwise.
I think it was said somewhere they purposefully avoided using Star Wars music for the series. What an absolutely idiotic idea. Then one day some rich git comes along throws a heap of cash at your dad and takes the car you grew up in. Then changes it into something it isn't, and finally smashes it into a tree....

What am I talking about? Well, how many examples do you want? He could hold the speeder in place, but couldn't grab his light saber from the hand of a mere mortal?
Come on man! Why must Jedi always display massive feats of absolute incompetence and uselessness to push the story forward?
scott The force is a hard thing to manage, even an Olympic sportsperson will have a bad day or bad moment or mess something up in their sport, but continue to make a fantastic achievement 5 minutes later
@@Skyfall106 Sorry. I understand the point you're making, but Jedi are superhuman.... except when the plot requires them not to be. It's irritating, and lazy writing.
scott I don’t fully think so, they’re all still human and humans make mistakes. Remember that most jedi were trained in the force from a young age, where most of them didn’t even know about the force and that they were force sensitive. A skill that they’ve learned and can still fail in. Also, from what I got from the movie Obi-Wan had tried to cut himself off from the force like Luke, that’s why he was a bit rusty, in the last jedi luke did the same but was still able to do that mad force thingo
@@Skyfall106 In the Clone Wars, Obi Wan ran into Maul on Tatooine and beat him in under 10 seconds. He was able to take on Vader in Ep. 4. He had clearly kept up with his training.
In this fan film, he's sucker punched by a Tusken Raid, and there are only two of them. Then he's able to deflect heaven knows how many blaster bolts from the ST's, despite being temporarily blinded? I mean, come on.
Kudos to the effects team on this short film, but the story writer should be fired! >:-)
An elegant film, for a more civilized age

So so civilized!
Obi-wan: "Hello there."
_Also_ Obi-wan: "Hello there?"
You can't have James Arnold Taylor in your movie and _not_ have fun with it ha! This was absolutely amazing, Jamie. You and your team should be incredibly proud.
it's crazy how accurate this fan film is to the show. This was a treat to watch and I don't know why I haven't before!
This is what happens when you combine passion and respect for the source material. No big budgets, no political agenda, no social commentary - just pure, love driven entertainment made FOR fans, by fans. Much respect for this project.
When Disney won't make a Kenobi film
Fans: Fine, I'll do it myself.
they're doing a Kenobi tv show though
But they’re doing a TV show lol
A TV Show is different than an actual film
@@dapperfield595 In this case it is even better ^^
Dapperfield your right
He got James Arnold Taylor, another Kenobi to play a villain in this short film. Im i the only one who finds that awesome?
You are absolutely not alone
Definitely not alone
I LOST MY MIND
As soon as he started talking I had that thought....wait oh it is him! Nice
You aren't alone. That is awesome. I love it!
We somehow live in a world where a 20 minute fan film does a better job, is more interesting, and shows more respect at portraying a broken Obi Wan suffering PTSD and actually focuses on him than the actual big budget Disney show.
EDIT: I made this comment before episodes 5 & 6 which I admit they managed to stick the landing towards the end which was such an improvement but man the stumble leading up to it was very rough.
Wait, how does it do a better job? I definitely think both are very good.
No it doesn’t
@Blue Typhoon2017
Fan film: doesn't leave tatooine and protects Luke
Disney: LEAVES tatooine and doesn't protect luke
"I made this comment before episodes 5 & 6 which I admit they managed to stick the landing towards the end which was such an improvement but man the stumble leading up to it was very rough."
LOL what? It's even worse, he left Vader alive when he was at his mercy. Vader confirmed Anakin was dead so he had ZERO reasons to keep alive. They also don't understand the power level of the force, it remove any stake, it's not magic without effort.
The Empire doesn't use the full power of their Star Destroyer, those 72 Ties are never used for no reason.
They also don't understand Hyperspace at all, Jabiim is all the way up in the galaxy, Tatooine is all the way down, it take days to travel across the lanes, not seconds.
Everyone not dying of gut wound.. Why? Reva also discovered teleportation it seem..
@@daghostds stfu, stop crying and be grateful
You killed me with these two phrases:
"You don't need to see their identifications..."
"Hello There..."
i thought they were cringy tbh
@@danielslammms8740 agreed. Well performed, but unnecessary and awkwardly tacked on references. Lots of those in this lessened it for me. Was very well crafted otherwise.
@Devilikg yeah, this version of obi wan isn't written anything like the originals. Pretty pathetic the lack of understanding of the character put on display here.
Actually, one must bend one's mind to take control of the other..

First Robin and now this... Jamie Costa is a gem! I am amazed beyond my limits!
Wasn't it this first, then Robin?
Yes but I watched Robin first so I was talking about my own experience.
Whoever played obi-wan was very well into his character
It was Jamie Costa lol
I’m not about the Accent tho
@@selfdeprecatingprick1018 I dunno, I thought he channeled Ewan Mcgregor channeling Alec Guiness pretty damn well.
@@selfdeprecatingprick1018 go watch other Jamie Costa Ewen Mcgreggor impressions, he's fucking spot on
Funny how a fan film on a modest budget has more authenticity to the original story then multi million dollar productions with limitless assets and talent. Better acting, story telling and REAL emotions when a story is genuinely told without a motive to subvert it's audience. Goes to show we are no longer told stories or entertained, but fed propaganda.
Exactly I was thinking of doing the same thing honestly but I'm going to center it around a crowd favorite Ahsoka Tano from Starwars the Clone Wars and Rebels to but not Animated actually but for the time being I'm still in the process of researching her taking notes all that stuff
@A.I. Joh-An Gerrison Bot so true
Exactly disney dont know wtf they are doing wow this is really great we need more!
Rrrrright.
Film. Sxxx
James Arnold Taylor: *Voices Obi wan in The Clone Wars but plays a captain in the empire*
