Bird is top three all time. Had no holes in his game. Even averaged double digit rebounds for his career. He played the last seven years with a broken back, yet still won his 3rd consecutive MVP in 1986 when any other player woulda sat out the majority of that year. Shaq, Duncan, LeROID, etc.. are not in Bird's class. Aside from flopping, whining and bitching, and getting coaches fired, what does LeQueen do better than Bird? Bird even made all-defensive teams.

  • @willjohnson8446

He’s just so completely aware of what’s happening around him. Then he has the amazing ball control to capitalize on even the smallest of openings.
He’d be a monster in modern basketball. He’d easily adapt to a Steph Curry style 3-point shot strategy. He’d have to dial back his defensive aggressiveness, but he’d also have an easier time driving to the hoop.

Larry Bird is the best all around player of all time. Top tier jump shooter. Top tier hustle. Top tier outlet passer. Top tier rebounder. Top tier free throw shooter. Top tier IQ. Top tier no-look passer. Top tier clutch. Top tier 3 pt shooter. Top tier playmaker. Top tier team leader. Top tier tap-passer. Top tier off-ball player. Top tier toughness. Great defender and the player with the least amount of weaknesses to his game in NBA history. His opponents feared him, and they have gone on the record in multiple instances to share that. I was a Magic fan, he was a flashier passer, but I put him ahead of Magic and that’s hard to say. Jordan is the GOAT because he has twice as many championships. But I prefer Larry’s overall game. Injuries even when he went into the league hindered him and shortened his career. But Bird made his teammates better. Jordan didn’t have Pippen or Rodman then, and that’s fair. But Jordan’s infamous 63 point playoff game? Which one of them actually won that game? Bird’s team swept Jordan’s team in the playoffs three years in a row, during those years that Jordan was averaging 37/38 points per game. Even with a broken back at the end of his career, he was able to score while Jordan were double teaming him. Jordan revolutionized the game, but so did Bird. Bird was the best three point shooting in the league (something he literally had to learn after he went pro, best free throw shooter, best passer, probably the best hustlers, almost had a quadruple double after only playing three quarters, and also was a first team all defender a few times. All while playing through worse injuries than Kobe. I would pick him before Jordan if it wasn’t for the number of championship or the shorter career. I have him at number two or three but top 5 is fair. But all around skills, I can’t think that Jordan, Magic, Wilt, Kareem, Bron, Russel were better. I can’t say he’s the GOAT, but he’s close.

I'm not convinced that the skills have improved
    Have the defensive skills improved?
    Have post move skills improved?
    Have passing skills improved?
Are people better at boxing out?
The only skills they're better at now is 3 point shooting and it's not even by the margin people think
And as far as ball handling goes yes more players can dribble better as a whole but they can also take 5 steps and not get called for traveling and they can palm the ball
As far I'm concerned these players lack the skills of the older generation

Todays NBA,with it’s no check ,no touch, drama queen, floor flopping ,load management, three point chunking contest type of play is an embarrassment to the players of old. And on the three-point shooting topic, had Larry Bird played college ball in an era where there was a three-point line. Can you imagine how much more dangerous he would’ve been don’t get me wrong, I do value your opinion and I’m excited to see your journey of discovering Larry Bird, I hope you educate the younger people who enter their reaction videos dead set on nobody is better than LeBron or Michael or whoever their favorite player is. There's a lot of stuff that young fans say that is just hearsay and BS tbh. Stuff like "players in the 80s were janitors and garbage men". INCORRECT. Yet young fans repeat this nonsense constantly. They're also fond of saying that players from the 80s weren't as skilled as today's players and would never make it in today's game, but that just doesn't make any sense because the rules and play have changed so much that you're not even really comparing the same game. You could equally say that modern players would never make it in the 80s NBA because the old game was a lot more physical. Players got elbowed in the face and knocked on their a--- all the time. Larry was out there playing games with a bleeding nose, broken foot, fractured face, pinched nerve in his spine. Modern player stubs their toe and they gotta take a month to rest. Always so much big talk from the kids, but I guess they can't help it they don't know better.

Bird got 3 mvps CONSECUTIVELY (only Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain have done that)...

It is absolutely a false narrative that past players weren't skilled. The game was played differently back in the 90s.. heck even 2000s and prior when the game was less focused on the 3pt shot. The game was played mainly within the 3pt line. The players back then played in closer quarters and had different skills that they used to be effective. Just because they had different skills than the game currently calls for doesn't mean that they weren't skilled. Today's players collectively are unarguably better 3pt shooters other than that the skills of modern players are equivalent or even worse. That is not a slight on the players necessarily. The crux of the argument between era's is divided by NBA rule changes. The NBA rules have changed and the players adapt to the rules. The NBA changed their rules to make it less physical and easier to score. It's hard to argue that modern players are unequivocally better than past players when the league has changed the rules to make it easier.

So, there is no comparing MJ and the rest of the bigger or more athletic physical players that just plow thru or jump over the whole damned team to the previous eras, the skill set is much different and there is no common ground to start from. It sounds like you believe that the bigger more athletic players are better than those who are less physically dominant.... todays NBA, is a shadow of what it was. There is almost no resemblance, the best players currently and for I don't how long, treat the game like a 3 point contest, it's seriously a lot of the time, boring. I see a lack of heart for the game , $$$ took the place of where that used to be, so now it's all about stat lines and 3's....they are playing a team sport as an individual striving for their own achievements before the teams. The goal was wins, but now it seems the mentality is win or lose....my stat line won't suffer individually. I'm sorry but there are very very rare NBA players that competed (or are competing) in a league with almost no level of athleticism, speed, hang time etc as others but still win games, and play offs and titles etc...I don't know if you would be aware of this but, Larry swept Michael and the Bulls twice in playoffs....SWEPT....and with Pippen and MJ the second time. Michael never beat Larry. Facts. If you have the inclination, there are some better vids especially on Bird, not just a compilation of highlights, but digging into his career, history and better insight of his game. What metrics is your statement of "He's not better than MJ, Lebron, Shaq, Kobe or Kareem" based on?
Shaq?? What makes him a top 5 player?
And Lebron?? lol I would 100% without hesitation pick Bird over Lebron if I was starting a team. It seems like such an easy decision.
I'll just say that Lebron EASILY could've been the best player in history if he put the effort in. His body is solid and his athletic ability is second to none. We've seen flashes of him putting effort in on defense and when he does, nobody is getting to the rim. This guy has everything needed to be unstoppable in the NBA......except that he lacks the killer mentality that Kobe, Bird and MJ had. Lebron just isn't that guy and because of that, he can never be the best. From walking back on defense to flopping and complaining to pouting on the sideline, Lebron shouldn't be in the conversation. Imagine if he had the killer mindset like MJ. He'd be looked at much differently than he is now. He wouldnt have to proclaim himself the GOAT or have his Klutch Sports Group team pressing all the sports outlets to push the narrative that Lebron is better then MJ...He wouldn't need to do that because it would be known that he's the greatest. But thats not how it is. And thats why Klutch puts pressure on the outlets to talk about Lebron being the GOAT.

He was the archetype for a small foward of today no lie. A big that can shoot and pass, rebound. 10 rebounds for the whole of his career .Jordan never ever beat him, and Jordan has beat everyone in the league at least once.
