    I have a brand new Yamaha F9.9 outboard and would love to do the 15hp conversion.
    Is there a tutorial or DIY on how to do this?

    1. Is there any other part that needs to be changed along with the Carb?
    2. Does the carb swap stress out any other F9.9 4 Stroke component?
    3. How's the long term performance after the swap, speed, mileage?

    Great video, I want to do the same. I have a new 15ELHD (66M-14301-12-00) carburetor, and need to replace my 2009 9.9FMSH (6AU-14301-11-00) Carburetor, but holes are much wider on the 15ELHD Carburetor. Did you have to replace your intake manifold (whole intake system) also? My understanding your 2007 and my 2009 9.9 4 strokes should be the same. what extras did you have to do?.

      @quadracer392  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brian Kennedy I didn't have to change anything else at all. The 15hp carb bolted right up without having to modify anything. What you may want to do is look at the parts diagrams of the two motors and make sure the intake tube has the same part number. If not you may need to change the intake tube also.

    So swap the carburetor/reed valves from a 15hp motor into the f9.9? Very nice! I had heard it could only be done with 2 stroke motors, but obviously it can be done.. Could you please list all the parts that need to be swapped?

    Thanks for the video. Few Q's: What is your Pontoon boat length? What new brand/model carb did you put on? Come with the jet you were mentioning? Thanks! (My father in-law has a 10hp max on his lake, so he's looking at getting a 16-18' pontoon and doing what you did to a 9.9 Yamaha or Honda.)

    • @quadracer392
      @quadracer392  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Our pontoon is a 21'. I bought a factory yamaha carburetor and it came with all the jets and everything that the 15 HP carb is supposed to have. If you decide to do it make sure there aren't any other differences between the 9.9 and 15hp motors other than the carburetors.

      Since they are both carburetored it should but I'm not 100% sure. You'll have to compare the parts diagrams. Boats.net is a good place to find parts diagrams to compare them.

    Great informative video. The only question I have is what’s the year and model # of your 9.9? I think possibly some conversations might be easier than others as for example in 2001 yamaha made 9 different model 9.9s

    • @quadracer392
      @quadracer392  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, some very well may be easier to do. I haven't looked at all the different models but I put in the description what mine is and what motor I got the carb from. My motor is a 2007 9.9ELR2 and the one I got the upgraded carb from is a 2005 15ELHD. Only thing I can suggest is compare similar model year parts diagram 9.9 to the 15hp side by side. That's what I did. It took a few days of looking but I found two that were identical except the carburetors. Hope this helps.

    Have you measured your fuel economy? Do you know your gph differential between the stock and 15hp carb? If you have taken down the data, I'd love to know gph at different throttles (1/2, 3/4 and WOT) and your speeds. Thanks!

    Poor little baby Yamaha screaming its guts out:((( really should upgrade to something a little bit bigger so you dont burn near as much fuel and it would save lots of wear on your motor by just upgrading to even a 25hp or 30hp.

    • @quadracer392
      @quadracer392  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It was originally used on a power restricted (10hp) lake. It's no more of a load than what would be on a 25hp, it would just run a little faster. It runs in the rpm range that's recommended from the mfg. As far fuel, I can run half a summer on one tank of fuel. I would really like to get a 90hp for it, but price of new one has held me back.

      Oh gotch. I myself have a 2010 Crest LE 2270 Pontoon. It’s a standard 2 tube, and its 22ft long. It’s powered by a 2011 Mercury 90hp Four Stroke EFI. We bought it brand new, with the tubes clean and the boat empty, the thing will push the boat 35mph. With a load on, and after sitting in the lake all summer. It will still push 30mph.

      @@shanehall5823 ah interesting. I was joking about the Big Bang rev limiter lol.
      It could be cavitation. Maybe try a different trim position or have you damaged the prop in any way? Causing it to cavitate
      Best way to sort it is a prop, one size up. Check out Ali express they are about $50 each.
      Try maybe a 10 x 11 or 10x12 prop
      What size is your prop currently??
      I want to do this same carb swap with my 05 8hp Yamaha but the largest prop for it is 9”.
      I might even change the propeller shaft on my 8hp to get a larger selection of 15hp propellers.
      I’m gonna try and go from 8hp to 15hp lol it’s the same block. I think a little bit wider intake and exhaust, I should get around 13hp.
      A 60% increase is bigtime!!!
