    The jon boat flies with the new outboard! This was the best purchase I could have made for the boat. If I was only going to fish by myself I would get a new prop. It currently bangs the rev limiter with just me in the boat, but I know the factory prop will be the best option for torque and top speed with passengers inside.

    I have a 03’ Yamaha 25 four stroke on a Lund 14 SSV tiller.It’s a deep V, very light boat. Just me and gear about 28 mph. I don’t have electric tilt & trim. I had to install a fin on the cavitation plate to get up on plane easily. It also made it ride much “flatter”. No dolphining. On a flat bottom boat I don’t know if it’s necessary. Nice boat you got there. Congratulations on captains license. Cheers from Chicago

    I have a 1542 with a 25HP 4 stroke, added floatation pods to the transom, made a huge difference in performance and no water coming over the top of the transom. Well worth the money.

    I think that your boat doing 30 mph is really great , that's very fast on water and having the well full didn't affect your speed at all , still 30 mph which is awesome I'm sure even with another person you can still get 30mph

    I have a 12ft Jon boat (tracker toadpole) with a 15hp 2stroke Yamaha, with me alone I’m getting 25-26mph. I’ve tested some different props available on Amazon and the stock 10 pitch gave me the best speed. I have lined the floor with wood and carpet but I think at most added 50lbs and I weight 220. Is that a good speed or is there anything I can do to give me more speed. I saw a guy with the same engine on a 14ft run 28mph. Engine has stabilizer tabs and I don’t know if it helps or hurts my speed. I’m wondering why my 12 won’t do 30mph. I’m thinking about up jetting my carb to get more fuel. Any thoughts? Any help is greatly appreciated!

      Thats not bad! I was only doing 9-10mph with basically the weight of me and two other people with my 9.9. If the boat gets on plane, you're in good shape. I haven't had the same payload with the 25 yet, but I'm guessing it will do around 28.

    Just saw it on your description, was going to say sure sounds like it's hitting the Rev limiter. You need a spare prop anyways might as well go up a couple pitches. It will probably go just as good on a longer boat. Happy guiding.

    • @FloBass
      @FloBass  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m talking with a few prop shops to get a better understanding of the science behind it. I’m sure it would push a 16” just as fast. I’ll upgrade the boat when I run a dozen or so guide trips out of this one.

    I’d go with the same pitch but a quality stainless one, this will load it just a tad so you don’t tag the limiter when it’s just you and still have enough holes shot when you have two bodies and gear. Keep the old prop and tools onboard, if you’re prepared you’ll never need it luck.

    I’ve been saving for a new outboard all winter. I think you sold me on this one. It’s very close in price to the 20 Merc efi I was looking at, but way faster. How’s the back of your boat sit with the 25? I have a 9.9 Honda that weighs like ~117lbs so I reckon this would be about the same at ~126lbs. I have a 14’ v with a 52” transom, so slightly wider than your 1436. Concerned about weight cause I’m kinda fat lol

      It's definitely a good speed for what I need it to do with passengers and the well. I wont take the boat faster than 25 when I have passengers. There are a lot of long runs I'll be making when I fish alone, so I will eventually get a prop with more pitch to bring the rpm down to a better operating range at wot. It will get better fuel efficiency dropping down 500 or so rpm too.

    I had a $3,800 lb Sea Ray and the motor would push that boat at 36 same motor on an 1800 lb boat top speed the same 36 it depends on how the gearing is and the prop that you're using. If it's just you and the livewell you could go with a speed problem and get a lot more speed.
    If you're going to put two more people on the boat keep the torque prop

    I wonder how does the trim angle affect the top speed on this boat? Neutral setting vs moving the column away from the transom to compensate bow going up when in max speed. I plan to do some tests and a vid when checking different angles on my small Honda F15 engine and a crescent boat :)

    • @FloBass
      @FloBass  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      On this boat the trim angle made no difference in top speed. It rides on a very small pad. Even with a 9.9 it would ride on a small pad. It really needs a jack plate to raise the motor to go faster. Then you’d most likely need a prop with more pitch.

    • @jimbob9799

      FloBass Gotcha. When I saw the well in the boat, I was curious how the recirculation pump was plumbed. Great video nonetheless.

    • @FloBass
      @FloBass  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah, I gotcha. Offset to one side of the well there is a big 6" pvc tube that runs top to bottom. The tube has slots cut in at the bottom for water to come in, but there is a floor built into the tube about an inch up from the bottom to create a separate chamber. There's a hole in the middle of that floor with a half inch tube running up almost to the top of the well. When the water pressure builds up the water is forced through the slots in the big pvc and up that small tube in the middle. That fills up the chamber inside the big pvc. There is a 350gph bilge bump in that chamber that pumps the water back into the main wells compartment through a hole along the side of the big pvc. It has a dannco venturi at the end which slows the flow of water and creates aeration. So as the bilge pumps the water out of the chamber, it causes a pressure difference and the water continually flows into the big pvc, up the small tube, showers down into the chamber. I have filter media in there that it showers down on to collect the scales, poop, and other junk from the bait fish I catch and anything thats left from the net that falls in. Sorry for the long explanation, but hope it helps.

    i am going to start off with saying good luck with your captain license. i am a 100 ton QMED. generally speaking, you should hit rev limiter unloaded, but never loaded. adjust prop pitch accordingly (+/- 1 pitch) in your case. it seems like your boat could only accommodate 2 or 3 persons max. factor in the weight of the people and gear +(cooler of beer). all of the weight will mostly make its way toward the front which will make planing more difficult. if you did your speed test in fresh water you may want to go to salt on a calm day. you will gain some speed for bragging rights. saltwater is more dense and the boat floats higher. same way when we swim in it (easy to tread water). pitch the prop for how you will use it commercially and keep the prop now for recreational use. stainless props are nearly indestructible and have incredible wear resistance to bumping in to sand bars and such. however, they are heavy and send a shock wave to the gears in the lower unit when shifting gears.

      I've been looking at 1650's with the seat livewell, but only issue is I bait up with threadfin shad for clients, and they don't last in square wells. You need round edges and a circular flow of water. I'm hoping I can modify a 1650LW model with my well.

    I just ran the testing with the 12 pitch prop vs. the stock 11 pitch on the DF25A. 3 mph faster top speed, the engine loves the prop. BUT - I noticed it takes more to get up on plane. The truth is I put the 11 back on because I prefer to have that perfect blend of hole shot and mid range beastly power and ease of on plane times and be satisfied with 27 mph top speed. I used a solas amita prop and I have a chirping or kind of squealing going on which drove me nuts, not sure why. I never had that happen with stock prop. I also noticed my motor mount bolts were loose, this may have been the cause of the noise. (22 hrs. total time on the boat and Motor). I will retest on the next nice day. I posted a video last night of the chirping noise. - Thanks, Jeff

      Awesome info! I hit a gator yesterday morning and put a dent in my stock aluminum prop. I lost 1mph. I’m going to have to replace it. The thing surfaced 20 feet in front of the boat when I was cruising at half throttle which is 22mph. Nothing I could do. How heavy is your boat?

      If there's no wind, or I'm moving with the current it hits the rev limiter if I keep it at wot. I'm assuming what you're hearing is the audio clipping due to the excessive wind noise at 30mph.

      That 3 cyl would have a lot of torque! The vibration doesn't bother me at all. There really isn't much at idle. It is just accentuated through the tiller. I'm a die hard Yamaha guy, but Suzuki would be my second choice for an outboard.

    I can't imagine hitting a gator.....! My boat is 185 lbs. I ride with my wife and daughter, and 6 gallons of fuel and a small cooler. I'm thinking the squeak was due to loose mounting bolts and not the solas prop. I'll know soon when I retest. 11 pitch is where it's at for my set up.

    Nice video, just to offer some experience, I have the same motor electric start. I run it on a 1548 semi v. Stock Yamaha prop is 9-7/8 dia by 11.25 pitch and would push me and my buddy total weight 525lbs and fishing gear 27-28 I now run a solas stainless 10pitch for pushing heavy loads it’s a slightly larger dia so it pulls harder down low and maneuvers the boat better at low speeds it will push 4 people and fishing gear 24-25 mph. My back up/ go fast prop is a turning point aluminum 9-3/8 by 11 pitch very close to the Yamaha prop at a 1/4 of the cost. If you want to chat sometime drop me a message good luck.
