Pelagics for sure. We start seeing pelagics in the next month or 2 with it really firing up in January. Hope to get some good vids featuring pelagics soon.

I have an older Tuff Tender with a deck I built & rear hatches, binnimi ,sounder & watersnake electric motor . I got the 20 hp Suzuki as it is the same as the 15 but a different computer. A bit overkill but if I get a bigger boat? over 3/4 noise is a waste of fuel unless heavy loads are carried. It goes like stink but did need an engine vane to pop it on the plane real quick.

Good stuff, subscribed. Love the Tuffy but it’s twice the price here in America. Would like one though. Here it is 3,200 USD no trailer, stripped down. We need more dealers here to. I am seriously considering one soon though but would like a bit better pricing

Interesting that the Tuffie throws up spray at speed. I had a Tuff Tender which is more of a mini trip hull with 15 Yammie 2 stroke. Bright blue. We christened it the Flying Esky. No spray, fantastic ride, cornered like on rails. Top speed 1 up over 26 knots, 2 up 24 knots. Magic rig. Huge fun.
Now have a Smart wave 3500 with F25 Yammie 4 stroke long shaft. A revelation in space, comfort and storage, also has a good dry ride. Similar speeds.

How’s the fuel consumption of the 25 4 stroke vs the 15hp two stroke ??

I had a Polycraft Tuff Tender with a Yammie 15 hp 2 stroke on it.... Absolutely flew... over 25 knots AND lighter than the Tuffy and different hull design.
Dry ride and cornered like it was on rails. Our Flying Esky - bright blue.
Wanted a bit more space and storage. Upgraded to a Smartwave 3500 - 3.5 metres with a 1.7 beam v Tuff Tender at 3.0 metres & 1.4 m beam.... a revelation in space.
Kept the 15 S/S 2 stroke.... 2 up was good once on the plane... but required fuel tank forward & passenger forward. Sold the 15 very quickly to a guy with a Tuff Tender wanting speed.
Got a Long Shaft transom and a Yammie 25 4 stroke L/2. A magic rig. Highly recommend if you want to step up from a Tuffy or Tuff Tender. 4.2 m Polycraft is too big and heavy.

Ayyyyeeee another tassie devil fan🤙👍👍👍 the lowest speed is certainly something we didn’t test. I run the 15hp as you have seen and I comfortably pull the tassies at 2 knots no worries and lower if need.
Even if it had a 20hp, which I'm not sure on the tuffies hp rating, to slow you down whilst idling you simple get a prop with slightly less pitch ;)

Great video guys, thanks for all the information. I have the old model Tuff Tender and at a guess it sounds like it is close to 30kg less weight in the hull. I heard you used to own the old model. What engine did you run on it and how did it go? I am asking because in the near future I will be getting an outboard for mine and some credible info would be greatly appreciated. Any info you can give will be helpful. Thanks in advance
I used to run a 15hp 2 stroke Yamaha on the old model. Went very well indeed.
Although I have more power with a 20 I find more than 3/4 throtal is wasted. Have been advised to raise the motor an inch or 2. Will see how that goes.
A mate and I built 3metre alloy flat bottom boats and they can plane with two of us we would be the same weight as you two, with a 9.9hp . But don’t ride too well in the choppy stuff, I guess you can’t have the best of both

What is the bottom slowest trolling speed for the 15 hp? Thanx
That is hugely dependant on the boat, in this instance maybe around 2knots
I have an older Tuff Tender & went a 20 hp Suzuki as it is the same weight as the 15 with a diferent computer & about $300 difference. Did that just in case I change boats & more is always better

Would have been nice to have the boat/motor properly trimmed. The porpoiseing is indicative of poor trim which reduces speed and in severe situations can be dangerous to occupants of the boat. Good try though.
As you would be aware on a manual trim and tilt outboard we don’t have the ability to adjust trim on the plane, when trimmed any further in the boat bow pulls Down to hard, in hand causing it to dive with any face on or following seas, this is much more dangerous than a boat that is trimmed out further.
After spending years on these boats the scenario of trim in these particular hills is the best we can get them with a straight out of the box motor- IE straight bolt on to the transom with no modifications, foils etc.

Regarding your point of Tuff Tnder/Tuffy though. The last video you made was the first one I watched and when you called it a Tuff Tender at the beginning I was actually confused as well as I thought it was a Tuffy (as the name on the video). I've seen people call their older Tuff Tenders, Tuffy so it's understandable that people new to the boat (and your channel) would get confused, like are you calling your old boat a Tuffy too? Doesn't matter so much to me as I now know, but just something to think about for your new followers/people new to Tuffy's that might be comparing the 2 boats to purchase.

Just one question though, you mentioned you're going to put a smaller prop on the 15hp. Is that just to lessen the splash? What will a small prop do for the motor? Assuming top speed will be slower? Will it be more fuel efficient? Can you not achieve the same thing just by going slower?
Hi, I bought my Tuffy solely for off shore fishing Tuna and Mackerel. Thanks so much for a great vid. I upgraded to level flotation for offshore. My original thought was the lighter Mercury 20hp. But how could I not buy a Yamaha. So Yamaha 15hp it is.

When you say you may try different props on the 15 are you talking diameter or pitch or both? Maybe also do it for the 9.9 might make it better but with lower top speed.

OPA On Point Adventures thanks, maybe if you like you could state the specs on the prop, pitch and dia. Would be very helpful for other’s deciding which prop. There are so many different types.

I just bought a 9.9 to use as a portable motor for a 15' Kaboat. I am having a bit of buyer's remorse thinking it may be a bit too heavy. But I didn't want to get the 6hp because I felt like with heavier gear it will be a dog.
Plan is to always transport both items in the back of my truck.
The 6 are such a great motor too
Find a used 6hp for 600$ and you’ll have the best of both worlds

what weight is the poly craft just got that 108 kgs and what weight would you say you had in it ? I am looking at getting a 9.9Tohatsu 4 stroke on a inflatable true kit its weight is 43kgs and I way 100kgs I carry around 50kgs of gear what do you think guys
G'day Dave, to be honest I reccon the 15 would still be the go. However there is a fella on TH-cam who is an absolute legend, his channel is @rokkitkit, he is a guru on the true kit boats and could certainly give you some very accurate insite.

I have a 14’ Klamath aluminum boat. I thought I would try a new Yamaha 9.9 4 stroke. I am very disappointed in the way she pushes the boat. I doesn’t come close to planing. The dealer said that for another 600 bucks, he will trade it back in for a 15 horse. Keep in mind the 15 horse is 30 lbs heavier.
If I move forward with the upgrade, and move my battery to the center of the boat, do you think she will plane? I would hate to go back to an old 2 stroke.
Buy a 20 hp Parsun or Hidea, both have EFI and is cheaper then a snobbery-brand like Yamaha
Both will see you broken down also. There is no substitute for quality and reliability.
I would not say it's up to the skipper if you get wet or not if you want to go out on days that are not perfect
this is true, however a terrible skipper can make a dry boat wet on even the best of days.
Im ordering one of these but im in central illinois in the U.S. and a lot of lakes limit to 10HP so for me i want the ability to use at any of the smaller lakes in my area so the 9.9 is my most logical choice. Love the vids cant believe im spending as much as I am on this boat but it should last me forever is what i keep telling myself.
They never break. Steve from @polycraft is one of the most knowledgeable people I have met, to this day I have never met a better boat builder / architect

will the 9.9 run slow enough to troll ? because most my fishing is in small lakes in Arizona.
Depends what you are trolling for, the 15 was slow enough to troll even my slowest of lures

Rig up a frame that is the same as the boat trailer. You can buy those blue plastic strips cheap and pop rivitt them on some tubes. Search for Busta tought test to see how strong these boats are
What is minimum trolling speed of each motor ?
Never tested but I could confidently say around the one knot mark

I had a Tuff Tender with a 15 2 stroke Yammie. Way faster at 24 to 26 knots. Engine 36 kg. No spray, great ride..

I bought a 52 CC four stroke air cooled motor. It's 23 LBS, no water pump, idles beautifully, anits quiet. Go Max $299 and I'm never going back to beast engines or 2 cycles.

Best bet would be to contact your local Yamaha dealer- we use boat city perth
have you just put the motors on the back, did you do any alterations etc apart from setting the leg pins
No mods at all. Straight on transom no jacking at all. We wanted to make it as simple as we could

and if i just put the motor on the back and not chop it up it does about 20.5

I did notice online that your boat was the one that developed the massive hook in the hull due the trailer it was on trailer. I would have no doubt that this would be contributing to a slower hull.

No mate. Prop on the 15 was 9 1/4 x 9
9hp was 8 1/2 x 8 1/2
They where tested as they where from factory

I got a 3m Tuffy on the weekend. No joke Polycraft are the best company. I lost one Tuff tender) crossing the wide bay bar. I got it back. From nice people helping me out and Polycraft and Adrians Marine Bundaberg.
Then it got stolen. Unfortunately I had to buy a second hand one. But it was a Tuffy with a 9.7 Parsun. I was so impressed with it by myself. I'm 125kg. Got on the plane almost all the way back to where I needed to get to. Only had to paddle 400m with my hands.

You can’t legally put a 15hp on a boat that’s only rated to 10hp.
Hi Peter. This hull is rated to 15hp but the 9 is a frequently discussed option so we did the comparison
Fair enough ,although it’s a no brainer that any vessel will perform better with its maximum rated engine horsepower.
@@petermiller8634 not all the time. We are currently working with a boat rated to 115hp, however with a 90, we loose 2 knots at WOT but the fuel savings and performance is much better. I think the concept is exceptionally hull dependant.

It’s reviewing a 9.9 and a 15 outboard. If you don’t like it then piss off
Review means nothing because you not adhering to the compliance plate . The total weight your allowed to have in that boat is 290kg , that includes people 217 kg , max engine 55 k which leaves 17 kg for gear . You 2 look at least 217 kg combined , 9 hp engine 45 kg , deep cycle battery in the rear , another battery in the front(saw it in front bin in one of your earlier vids) ,fuel tank , and all your fishing gear and camera equipment. So very much doubt that gear went under the 27 kg you had up your sleeves. Compliance plate is exactly that , you have to comply with it . I checked the website for the specs what I could find on boat and engine all the rest is unknown , but it’s an educated guess you can’t have 2 batteries in that boat under 27 kg . Do review again by the compliance plate , otherwise do we all start putting 20 people in a lift that says 12 ?.Real world doesn’t give you the right to flaunt the rules mate.Otherwise good video .

Well under the 290 kg. I fact we where 10kg under the pax plate. We made sure this was the case prior to the test to avoid comments like yourse.

We usually run the electric motor on the front too bill but as you can see that was also removed for the video to stay compliant. Your comment however is a ripper and one many should read and acknowledge even tho it is not really relevant to this particular video as it stayed in the guidelines
Ok mate I’ll take your word on it 👍 Just would have been nice to exactly know how much everything weighed so no grey areas , and suppose that’s why the boat is rated to 15 hp for people who want to add electric motor and deep cycles .
