You need to put a check valve fitting into your fuel filter so your kicker doesn’t suck your main fuel line empty and vice versa. That’s your air lock you think is going on.
Go buy some make pipe to male barbed pipe check valves and out them on all your hoses going in and out of that filter base and you’ll be set

So it was all the loops in the lines. I got it home after this vid and re moved all the excess line and loops. I do have the valves you are speaking of off of the fuel filter. I took it out after I re did the lines and no issues at all. I now have 13h on the motor and the motor hasn’t had any issues since this vid. Thanks for the suggestions. I had heard that some of the bigger motors had this issue and a valve was required. Mine had the valve already and I never had any issues with the main. So yes it is a good idea for sure for the valves. In my case because I had two significant loops in the lines before the motor it obviously lost pressure and kept causing an air lock. All good now and totally fixed. Cheers

I have the same two motors as you, which check valves did you end up using?
Also, have you been able to charge your battery from the kicker, I do have a voltage regulator on the kicker, so it should be pretty straightforward to hook it up to the battery. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

@@jordananderson1460 the problem ended up being the two loops in the gas line. To fix the problem I just shortened the gas line and basically made sure there were no loops so no air could get in the lines to the motor. Fixed it right away. The boat already had a valve on the kicker feed line but my motor isn't big enough that I have had to use it so far.
I have switched to a dual battery system on the boat and my kicker and main are hooked up to the switch no problem. but you can hook it straight to your battery no issues and it should charge your battery while in use. cheers.

Im currently trying to pick a kicker and possibly a bracket for my DE17 also with a 115 Yamaha 4 stroke main. Have you been happy with your 9.9? Wondering about space for the tiller and turning limitations. Also, any trouble fitting it on the transome with the main motor steering? Thanks.

Love the motor. If I had more cash flow I would have made it tillerless. But it works. It only goes up a certain way. It steers the boat no problem at all when connected to the main.

How many mph can you get with the 9.9? Im wondering if It can troll my 20’ Seacraft like 7mph offshore.

Is it a T9.9 or F9.9? I’ve never seen a T series Yamaha with no power tilt or electric start. Far as I know the T9.9/T8 ( kicker version) was standard with power tilt and electric start.

I have a 2014 9.9 and use it exclusively In salt water. I have hade to tear down the carburetor 3 times due to salt build up. There is a raw water line that Yamaha calls a pipe (68T-12481-00) that splits and sprays a fine mist of saltwater all over under the engine cowling. The carburetor sucks in this fine mist of salt water through the air inlet but it seems the salt stays behind. If you start having a hard start, poor running issue, check for a problem with that hose. Luckily my 2015 Yamaha 300hp main has no such issues. Good luck with your motor and dual battery set up. I would install an ACR when you install the second battery.

Thanks for the tip. I have alrdy done the dual battery setup. I didn’t do a video on it. But I can maybe do a video on what I did. Cheers
