Everytime I hear of Federation losses from ground combat and I say again and again. Starfleet security is woefully inadequate and they NEED to reinstate MACO.
Not just the MACO. The Federation should have had a true professional military to deal with belligerent aliens. I mean, Klingons should have been THE red flag the Federation should have taken notice. Starfleet should have remained just as a space naval force and there should have been military branches that deal with ground operations and starfighter corp ops. I bet you a lot of Star Trek conflicts from The Four Years War to The Dominion Wars, things would have ended differently and they'd even take the Borg seriously than trying to hide with something so arrogantly dumb as the Prime Directive. The Cardassians were a very belligerent minor power. Crush their military in the most efficient manner, find out why they want a war so badly and eliminate the heads of state and military commanders via a trial for every quadrant to see, and rebuild Cardassia via humanitarian aid that's under favorable terms where the Cardassian government has no choice but to agree. You don't even need to take territory from them or even turn it into a puppet state. Just hurt their military and economy just enough to make them realize they're not a major power. Hell, had this happened the Federation wouldn't have to deal with the Maquis. Also, Bajorans wouldn't have to suffer because the Federation would have liberated them while take over Terek Nor far earlier before the events of DS9.
@Lokabrenna The United Federation of Planets stands for peace and equality for all living beings in the galaxy. Starfleet is primarily used for peaceful space exploration, diplomacy and peacekeeping, and then comes the defense of the Federation. Starfleet can fight, it has proven that often enough, and it is just right that only intellectual beings serve in Starfleet. This is the only way to uphold and defend the principles and laws of the Federation. Starfleet Security is doing a very excellent job as MACO's successor. Starfleet Security is well-trained not only in hand-to-hand combat and shooting, but also in law enforcement, which includes criminal investigations and forensic investigations. Starfleet Security are all well-trained experts. It was not for nothing that all civilian police units on earth were disbanded and replaced by Starfleet Security. Many former police officers were integrated into Starfleet security until the police were completely disbanded on Earth in 2166.
Well we do see something like troops on agilon prime in DS9 (I think it was called Nor Battle To The Strong). It's not been mentioned one way or the other, though we do have references to troops
A solid entry into star trek history, filling out an era largely unknown in such a way that is both interesting and reasonable, laying foundations that work with what is seen in TNG. Thank you!
@@venomgeekmedia9886 Found new info in the ST: Badlands duology of books by the way - that Gul Evek lost two of his sons in a battle at the Rabroc Nebula, near war's end.
Even worse, it may all have been avoided, had they not hid behind the prime directive, and provided aid for that famine and disease that had made Cardassia so desperate. Desperate people cannot be reasoned with.
Dam those Cardassian woman were fine tacticians one of my favorite ST races for sure. What o wana se is Cardassian MC in future ST show,s as star fleet captain or some thing : )
its interesting looking at the Roles of male/females in the different Races, cardassians especially the women dominate the sciences; obivously a reversal but it makes sense if you think cardassian males are more disposed to impulsivity and aggression. that then also adds to why you might find a greater number of women in high command since they are more disposed to analytic thinking and planning rather than action.
I see the battle of Trafalgar had some influence yet what the French couldn't do against the British the Cardassians were able to make it out of the battle alive and win a political victory against the Federation. Nicely done.
Great finale for the series. I really enjoyed the UFP vs. CU war history as narrated by you. For future battlespace videos I would also be interrested in Klingon/Romulan confrontations.
☼ youre series has given me such a new respect for the cardassians, and the federation role in their destruction. i mean once war starts *shrugs* . & that admiral isnt so bad now either. and so much irl like political bungles. gr8 stuff.
All of this could have been avoided, a decade and a half of war and millions dead on Cardassia and Bajor and tens of thousands more across the frontier and in battle, if Starfleet had been willing to roll up its stupid little Man-Skirts and drop the hammer on the Cardassian military and just smack them down like the really needed to be smacked down. In fact it didn't even have to come to that, since the real driver behind all of this, behind Cardassian militancy and imperialism, was their desperation and privation, which the Federation could have done something about EASILY, if it wasn't for the bullsh*t that is the Prime Directive that sees the Federation stand back and ring its hands, watching unimaginable suffering, but saying "They have sympathy for those poor people but just Can't get involved, it wouldn't be right to intefere"
@Lore Reloaded pointed out several times that if Bajor had been taken by Starfleet, the Border Wars would have ended far sooner and the Cardassians would have been stopped fully instead of being mislead into thinking they were a 'Great Power' within the sea of superpowers that were the Federation, Klingon Empire (a declining one there) and Romulan Star Empire. The Cardassians were basically too big for their britches and when it came to full scale war with one of said powers (the Klingons) they were utterly curbstomped.
@@robertbarrows6687 The Cardassians are basically North Korea, thinking its the Yuan Dynasty and had The Federation the genuine moral will to practice what they preached, they could have stepped in decades ago and lifted the Cardassian people out of the utter privation they found themselves in. @@weldonwin I was thinking that the Cardassians were more of the Fascist Italy or Spain instead of North Korea. They were ONCE a great power and were constantly trying to regain that status. @@robertbarrows6687 Actually, they were about a hundred or so years behind the Federation when they first met. The rate at which they were catching up was impressive, but they were still consistently far behind the Federation in technology, economy and industry
@@weldonwin I have a feeling the Cardassia we saw in TNG and DS9 is a post-collapsed civilization. Considering they made first contact with the Ferengi in the 22nd Century, either a collapse happened or a crisis. Hence why it rose into a fascist state by the 24th Century.
Had the Federation not tied their own hands and committed more in the start of the war when they had the advantage or actually put their full might after the last battle they could have won the war and probably saved themselves from an even worse war, the Dominion war, years later
I think the Arabic music, and pronunciation are a perfect addition to the fact that the writer's used the Cardassian's as a stand in for Middle Eastern nations.
I wonder if the Dominion war would have taken a different trajectory if Starfleet had Engaged the Cardassians with intent. A full federation War fleet would have completely toppled Cardassia just like we saw with the Klingon's later on, but without the Dominion for them to run to.
I feel that whatever happened in the Lost Era after 2293 drove the Federation into almost absolute pacifism and non interference. That's why they looked on conflicts with the Cardassians, Tzenkethi, Tholians, Talarians and Ferengi with rather disinterest. They wanted to pretend it wasn't happening. Not surprising considering the Klingons were now their allies (and were too busy bashing up each other) and the Romulans were hiding during this time. Then the Borg came and the Federation became confused at what to do, thus trying to please the Cardassians (foolishly and stupidly, thus creating the Maquis) and practically everyone. The Dominion War was to my headcanon, the kick to the head the Federation needed that their ideology was just a little too far from what they were supposed to be. (And this is where I ignore Picard) so the new Federation leadership and Starfleet Command (with experienced and less absolute extreme pacifist political appointees) would be able to put the government in a center. yes, be pacifistic but not over the top and don't assume every species isn't going to keep their word.
If I would have been head of Starfleet I would have made a Fraser based on the captain Archer Fraser for the Jordans it would have been powerful enough you know to kill a powerful enough to blow something up but you know that's about it wouldn't be able to centigrate or maybe the Captain Kirk style phaser I give him a mix of both of them and all the old faces it's me power packs
A Nebula class under Maxwell did a lot of damage. The Defiant was potentially able to hold off 5 top of the line Cardy ships, after destroying an outpost and a couple other on it's own when taken by Thomas Riker. Even just before the Klingons really hurt them - the Cardys just had NO capabilities to really hurt Starfleet/The Federation more than Starfleet/The Federation hurt themselves. Setlik 3 wouldn't have happened if not for Federation interference. Commodore Nechayev was winning easily in her Operation Phoenix. Starfleet didn't commit anything other than very old classes of ships and it's "land forces" were away teams. Starfleet crippled itself with target limitations and huge avoidance. If even a fraction more strength came from Starfleet, even a Galaxy and a couple Nebula's, they could have smacked the ego of the Cardy's and potentially stopped them from being one of the worst powers around. But no. Starfleet "morals" led to massive loss of life, a Nazi regime being stronger and made Starfleet look weak. But hey - as long as Federation politicians slept better at night x
From cannon and from the episode "The Wounded", I think the conflict was more one-sided than this in the Federation's favour.....the series seemed to imply that the peace treaty with the Cardassians was due to Federation principles and NOT through military impasse....the series also seemed to imply the Cardassians wanted anything BUT another engagement with Starfleet
The sound track is much more reduced, thankfully!! Your voice and the story should be dominant, and the music should be an afterthought, not a distraction.

This directly relates to Hitlers flawed “Autarky” policy. Near zero exports/ imports for fear of helping agriculture societies (Slavic countries) industrializing and Western Europe losing its edge. Starvation/ lack of trade for fuel is why the war had to start in 41. Millions starved directly from stolen food from Greece to Ukraine.
yeah people talk about german Economic Recovery in the 1930s and it was quite a fashionable view even in the 60s you can see the episode 'patterns of force' holds this view. arguably this was to justify the central planning of many economies east and west postwar. but now we know it was illusory wealth built on a lie.
And this is why Starfleet is inadequate in protecting the united Federation of planets , Trying to be a peaceful organization with a military side . To keep peace you must be stronger than your enemies .
This shows that if the federation had a standing army trained and equipped could have been asset. If marines were thing it’s not mentioned when the federation had a marine division.
This sounds eerily similar to the Korean War, with Cardassia as North Korea, and the frontier the 38th Parallel. The Klingons were the Soviets, the Romulans the Chinese, and the Cardassians the North Koreans.
Lots of talk about the Federation being "soft" on Cardassia, which is honestly incredibly cardassian thinking. If they had sent thousands of ships to burn cardassian worlds it would have created a vengeful refugee species, it would have shown the Federation's real enemies that they couldn't be negotiated with, it would have shown the Dominion the the Federation wasn't so different from them and perhaps they could be worked with. Honestly baffling to me that people seemingly can't see this, the federation beliefs in every citizen being a diplomat were tested and proven right, a painful test but one that succeeded. The Cardassians came through the national nightmare that was conflict with the federation, they eventually decided to be free, to overthrow their tyrannical leaders. The federation was right not to murder them and destroy their homes and resources in the border war, they would have been slaughtering mentally people, they knew the Cardassians could be healed.
In space, you would not form a line as did ships-of-the-lines did in the days of sail. You would form a plane (or a plate) or a cone facing the enemy. The line only applies in 2D and when most of your firepower is to the side. Federations ships have most of their firepower to the front and operates in 3D.
He does need more respect, yes. Served on the USS Memphis, spent time as Academy Commandant, took over command of the Cairo, and helped forge the treaty of the DMZ...
Nakamura proved his incompetence and your previous video showed Nachayev's superior tactical prowess. I come away from this with the view that if the Federation had actually pressed the Cardassian's early on, they could have won a more favorable peace and mitigated the Cardassian threat during the Dominion war. But Nakamura (and other Federation bureaucrats) couldn't get out of his/their own way.
Damn. I am very disappointed in Admiral Nakamura. He had every opportunity and wasted. He had every tactical and technology advantage... Did Federation really value the lives of their Colonists and Starfleet Personnel so cheaply. No wonder the Treaty pissed off so many. What's worse is that Nechayev was never held accountable for her actions in the Internment Scandal and was at it again over Dorvan 5. She learned nothing.
So what is Starfleet do with all its old phasers you know all the phasers from the 22nd century the captain Archer Fraser what they do with Captain Kirk's top one top two phasers the Star Trek 6 movie phaser what they do with all those phasers
The Cardassian Union had no right to attack the Federation for the sake of prosperity. The Federation is more good-natured than it should be, and I believe the Federation would have helped if the Cardassians had asked. The Federation would certainly have sent Class 1 replicators with power cells and medical supplies and medication and, if necessary, even Starfleet Medical to help the population in the Cardassian Union. Possibly a condition of the federation would have been that Bajor be granted independence. The Federation is not a monster as it has always been portrayed in Cardassian and Romulan propaganda. I suppose the military central command on Cardassia was afraid of losing power if the propaganda about the Federation turned out to be all lies.
A female Cardassian soldier is all but unheard off. The Cardassians are very big on gender roles and womena are more often in support, technical and scientific roles, though since some men are scientist too, there must be some exceptions. And this series just shows how stupid the Peace at any Price party was.
Hmmm. Buy cheap food, or, OR - hear me out - commit our civilization's resources to build a large fleet of starships with high upkeep costs and large crews to get blown up by superior foes while losing planets. I think we have a winner!!!

I thought this might wrap up with the nebula class debut, and it utterly stomping the new galors or something. Great series though, sick to death of hearing that this period was some gilded age of peace and the federation going soft, total BS. Nebula class seemed to launch earlier than the galaxy in the 2350s, and i always figured out of necessity to deal with this cardasian war that had gotten well out of hand. The nebula would be a ship built out of full size design locked galaxy class architecture, but the technology to make the galaxy class work as designed was only partially developed, forcing the ship to be reconfigured into a much more compact, less efficient shape built out of on the shelf technology. But, it would still bring a huge increase in displacement and weapons output with its huge phaser arrays, making the now old ambassador class look like a pre-dreadnought battleship with the nebula being something like the Yamato in comparison.
Nebulas are around however as stated in a previous episode Starfleet didn't want these new ships to be seen as warships and so deliberately kept them away from the fighting. as you say in 'the wounded' its very powerful i meant to add in the epilogue that Nasat was demoted and was later among the ships destroyed by maxwell in his unsanctioned campaign.
@@venomgeekmedia9886 I assume the Nebula launched in 2356 or 55. The Galaxy was GOING to launch in 2357, but some tv episodes imply some delay in launch. That's because he's a Starfleet admiral, who has been taught since the academy that he is an explorer and not a soldier and that Starfleet is not a military

Thank you!
And to think all this started because the Cardassians thought a Terraforming project was actually a military installation preparing for an attack.
its really quite tragic when you say it like that.
I love your use of graphical representations and maps to show where the ships and ground forces are.

Damn fine storytelling!! Please keep up the great work!
Amazing work. Really loved it
All of this could have been avoided, a decade and a half of war and millions dead on Cardassia and Bajor and tens of thousands more across the frontier and in battle, if Starfleet had been willing to roll up its stupid little Man-Skirts and drop the hammer on the Cardassian military and just smack them down like the really needed to be smacked down.
But no, The Federation decided they just couldn't interfere and so the Cardassians became militant xenophobes and Starfleet's unwillingness to smack them down, made them think they were actually holding their own, when they were actually a toddler fighting Muhammad Ali and Ali is too nice to hit back too hard.
@@weldonwin I was thinking that the Cardassians were more of the Fascist Italy or Spain instead of North Korea. They were ONCE a great power and were constantly trying to regain that status. Wouldn't surprise me if in the 22nd Century they were actually a rival to the Klingon and Romulan Star Empire at the time and the Federation was just the upstart power.
Hence why it rose into a fascist state by the 24th Century.
you really do a great job with these
Ahh the 20 min area was fixed good on ya
Had the Federation not tied their own hands and committed more in the start of the war when they had the advantage or actually put their full might after the last battle they could have won the war and probably saved themselves from an even worse war, the Dominion war, years later
I think the Arabic music, and pronunciation are a perfect addition to the fact that the writer's used the Cardassian's as a stand in for Middle Eastern nations.
One with the misfortune of not having oil
I know the triangle is not cannon but I would love see one on the triangle and how that could or would fit in to cannon...
I wonder if the Dominion war would have taken a different trajectory if Starfleet had Engaged the Cardassians with intent. A full federation War fleet would have completely toppled Cardassia just like we saw with the Klingon's later on, but without the Dominion for them to run to.
I think Starfleet will look back and say should have gone all out then
probably would have been a whole lot quicker.
@@ShannonCarter55 Funny irony when Kirk really died it all went south when no peace as long as Kirk lives dies and all goes out the window

As always an excellent video. Sad it's over. My suggestion is to continue with the Marquis raids to the Klingon/Cardassian war.

“The Cardassians could now fight the Federation as equals.”
Yeah, if Starfleet chose to keep throwing 50 year old ships at them…
This shows that if the federation had a standing army trained and equipped could have been asset.
Is this fanfic or Beta canon? Well, its great, thats for sure.
Anyone know the music at 7:43? I hear it in so many of his videos and I can't seem to find it. It's giving me 90s CD ROM game vibes.
Capt. Jellico, unsung hero of the Federation.

Oh for God's sake the Federation could have ended this war and a year-and-a-half if they really wanted to

So what is Starfleet do with all its old phasers you know all the phasers from the 22nd century the captain Archer Fraser what they do with Captain Kirk's top one top two phasers the Star Trek 6 movie phaser what they do with all those phasers
why are some of the faces blurred out? you get some kind of complaint?
Unfortunately yes, there was no other way to resolve it.
The cowardice of federation and starfleet leadership is incredible
A female Cardassian soldier is all but unheard off. The Cardassians are very big on gender roles and womena are more often in support, technical and scientific roles, though since some men are scientist too, there must be some exceptions.
And this series just shows how stupid the Peace at any Price party was.

Keep put the good work.
@@venomgeekmedia9886 Oh thats right, that was a something you mentioned.
@@venomgeekmedia9886 I assume the Nebula launched in 2356 or 55. The Galaxy was GOING to launch in 2357, but some tv episodes imply some delay in launch. I also assume three dozen Nebulas were originally launched, in a few year period - then further of them.
I assume Nasat is your own creation, also?
Nakamura was a REALLY incompetent War Admiral.
That's because he's a Starfleet admiral, who has been taught since the academy that he is an explorer and not a soldier and that Starfleet is not a military
