    You have a very nice swing for a 30 HCap. Lot of speed, with few adjustments will cut that handicap in 1/2. Enjoy remember it is just a game.

      Thank you Wayne. That means a lot. The swing is a work in progress this year and already making improvements to the driver swing. I'm starting to enjoy the game more and more as I realize it's just a game. No matter how bad or good you swing the club, there will always be a next hole. I'd love a subscribe if youre interested in watching my progress and content this year. Thanks again!

      I was thinking just the opposite 🤦‍♂️. That’s a swing that would benefit from ALOT of lessons and practice. Not going to be fixed by the newest driver technology. There’s literally no rotation in that swing.

      @Michael M I'm definitely investing into lessons this year along with some newer tech. Not the newest, but newer than I've been using. After watching my swing in all my videos, I know I need to clean some things up.

    Man this was great to watch, I just started about 2 months ago and got the Callaway Edge set from Costco, Loves all the clubs but thought about getting fit for a driver. I've only played 2 courses but averaged a 37 handicap, and mostly all my clubs I can hit well except my driver (inconsistencies). Really appreciate you asking these questions, I don't feel as embarrassed going to a fitting as a high HC

    • @MGGolf
      @MGGolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      No problem dude. Driver will be your most inconsistent club when starting out. No reason at all to feel embarrassed. Fitters have seen it all and know what to expect. I would suggest not getting fit so soon tho. You're swing is going to develop alot and change throughout the year. I suggest a lesson or 2 to get posture, grip, swing basics down. A fitting will never hurt your game, but I would hate to see you fit into a driver for 400-600$ and have your swing not fit the club within a year. Just my opinion for whatever it's worth. Good luck. ✌️

      I had started with the Callaway Edge set from costco as well. I immediately started replacing things because I go full r-tard when I get into a hobby. I replaced my driver with a 10.5 degree stealth 2 plus that i ordered online but the shaft that came stock with it was a high trajectory. I ended up replacing it with a hazrdus black low trajectory shaft. Also replaced the fairway wood with a stealth 2 fairway wood, added a stealth 2 4H (Both with stock ventus TR shafts) and 54 degree titleist sm9 vokey (which i absolutely love) and 60 degree taylormade MG3.
      I broke 100 more recently about 6 months into playing. Equipment helps, but when it comes down to it, its the reps, the mental aspect, and how you play the course. I am going to keep my game improvement irons until I shore more improvement in my fundamentals and mechanics of my swing - only then I feel I'll be ready for an iron fitting. I just don't want to pull the trigger too early when there is much to be improved with the swing and way I think and play courses.

    I know you’re all going to think I’m being “that guy” but a 30 handicapper shouldn’t be thinking about anything but learning the mechanics of a golf swing and how to reproduce that swing consistently.
    Getting clubs fitted when you can’t swing properly (or anywhere near properly) is crazy.

    I hit my driver in the same neighborhood as you did initially, 240ish are my best drives. If I thought I could gain even 10 or 20 yards by getting a fitting and looking at shafts and loft adjustments, I would have to do it! There aren't nearly as many options for that kind of thing where I am (in Canada) but after watching this I am going to do some serious research into getting a fitting.

    • @MGGolf
      @MGGolf  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if you want to go the free route like i did, wait till new equiptment comes out. then search different manufacturers "fitting events" and see if anything is in your area. you get to try the new stuff out (brand specific) but at least get a baseline of the equiptment that will fit you best. switching to a low launch shaft was a game changer for me that i never would have done on my own.

      Nice. My advice with fittings is that if you are looking for new equipment anyway, and have the money, go for it. If you are thinking it will fix your game, go for a lesson. Especially at a higher handicap like myself. Inconsistent striking will follow you from club to club. Just 2 lessons this year and my ball striking improved 10 fold. I’m a 3 handicap i swapped my 3 iron for a 7 wood tsr2, can’t complain off the blue on long par 5 where i get 220-230 left to the pin after a 290-300yards tee shot, i have such better eagle opportunities missing way less greens from that distance et even if missing them its not by much and still recovering thanks to the higher spin and decent angle. Just miss the 3 iron on some kind of naked course without much trees and lot of wind but still can swap pre round

      Did you need any lie/loft adjustments? I’m unsure of fitting someone with a very inconsistent swing. You can give a customer an idea of what they need in terms of a head, but differences between shafts and whatnot will be less tangible in my experience. I’d argue that beyond the head choice and actual specs of the club, the shaft is what makes the largest difference in determining what you should be purchasing.

    • @MGGolf
      @MGGolf  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @mattgenovese5891 no. Standard lie and loft. The job of a fitter is to fit clubs to ANY swing, regardless of consistency of strike. Give the player what works best i.e. most distance, best ball flight etc. If I could slice a ball and then hit a hook, would that make me unfittable?

    • @mattgenovese5891

      @@MGGolf I somewhat agree. If a beginner comes in to get fitted, would you recommend lessons first? If they are able to produce a swing that is repeatable, I agree that is entirely a “fit-able” swing, even if it may be considered an undesirable swing. I’m relatively new to fitting people and I guess my question is, do you think a beginner golfer gets more out of a fitting process when they have a repeatable swing than someone who hasn’t reached that point? What flex was the first shaft and what flex was the second shaft? Very interesting it make such a big difference

    • @MGGolf
      @MGGolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe they were both stiff due to my swing speed being right around the 100mph mark. If I remember correctly, the first shaft was high launch and high spin. The second was a mid/low launch and low spin.
      That's the main thing I really learned in my fitting with these guys. Different shafts with the same flex and weight can have different characteristics. Changing shafts significantly dropped my spin rate (about 1500-2000rpm from my daily) in turn allowing for longer flights.
      I was playing a high launching high spinning club anyway. I think that's why it was such a step up for my game

    • @Power5
      @Power5 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is no standard for what is a "stiff" flex. Hzrdus makes a bunch of different color shafts that are all stiff and same flex rating. Most of the colors are low spin low trajectory. They have a red that is mid trajectory mid spin. But the difference is where they offer the "bend" during the swing. My Stiff Blue RDX has a softer mid section and stiff tip and butt. The original black has a stiff butt and midsection and a softer tip. Green is stiffest throughout.

    • @MGGolf
      @MGGolf  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks man. Glad you enjoyed the videos. I did do a hybrid fit with the Callaway driver. Didn't make a video out of it tho. I remember that particular fitter more concerned with the distances on the hybrids than spin numbers. You don't want low spin like a driver. Spin creates stability in the ball flight. And I think the heavier the shaft the easier it is to control. Lighter shaft can swing faster, but can be harder to feel where the club actually is within your swing. For hybrid/wood I think the goal is to hit some good distances in between irons and driver and have it be comfortable to hit. If you're interested in more fitting videos, check out the guys at TXG on TH-cam (tour experience golf). If you can find a product demo and get a free fit, that will show you what kind of numbers you are putting out and what kind of shaft profile would be best for you. Or try a regular fitting if you've got the cash for that. Hope that helps. ✌️

      It’s too early to tell on dispersion … the data was not great and since I don’t shank nearly as much on the course’s and it’s snowing here now I decided on mail order rather than a retail custom fitting. In a sense, I paid for a fitting as part of my research into what would be the right flex. I ended up getting a great deal on some mail order like-new Great Big Bertha’s, (regular stiffness 10.5 D, 5w, hybrid) about 70% off list and total less than the driver at list price. I’ll work on my swing knowing that it’s not the clubs and they’re the right flex. They replaced the top end of my bag which was a mix of a repaired 12 year old callaway driver and 25 yr old cobra stiff woods.

    Just remember fitters are not instructors and instructors are not fitters. I waited 13 years to finally take my first lessons. Pay for itself tenfold over buying equipment. After taking lessons I feel I can pick up just about any club and maybe even blades and have a decent round. In a few months I went from shooting high 90s to mid to low 80s. Even scored a 79 for the first time in my life. LESSONS LESSONS LESSONS. Just like a good doctor, you want to get a good referral on a good instructor.

    • @MGGolf
      @MGGolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A good fitter will often give little swing tips if they see an issue. And a good instructor will look at your clubs to see if anything doesn't match up with your abilities. But they do not replace each other, and you can not purchase a better swing through a fitting. I agree with you 100. And I like your statement on a good referral. I've been through 2 instructors so far. One was just a cheap, local pro and I got what I paid for. The other was a referral and it was a much better experience (albeit more expensive). Lessons trump fittings. But if you want to buy new clubs for the sake of buying new clubs I recommend getting a fit. ✌️

    How were the fitters with the decision for you not to purchase? I’ve been thinking of going for a fitting, but anxious that I decide against spending loads of money and making it a waste of their time, even if I am paying a fitting fee. Would just love to try different clubs/shafts to get an understanding of what I need going forward, but the anxiety of them being frustrated with me for not purchasing puts me off.

      They're all salesmen, so they definitely want to sell lol. In this particular case, it was a "demo" for the stealth that could potentially lead to a sale. So they were there for 8 hours regardless of how many appointments they had. If I was crazy in love with it I would buy it. But I wasn't. Im personally good at saying no and go no shits about making a situation awkward. They're NPC's to me.
      I've done 2 fittings so far and neither one of them really asked for the sale. Just said I'm gonna look at other options and went on my way.
      I wouldnt do a paid fitting unless you really plan on buying. Usually the cost of the fitting will be applied to the cost of the club.
      It's new club season now. Id look around at different club manufacturer websites for "fitting events". It's free and you can get basic things figured out like loft, head type, shaft stiffness, weight, and trajectory. That's what I did at this fitting and bought the same stuff used for less than half the price.
      Sorry for the long message, but I did this experiment to help people out and I hope it was helpful.✌️

    You actually have a nice swing for such a reportedly high HC. Looks like you’re loading nicely into the downswing and generating some lag, from what I can tell. Only thing I can see that would probably be holding you back from creating more speed is you seem to rotate your hips too laterally in the backswing. If you can get your right side more tilted up as you take it back you might be able to get more power as you come back down.

      Hey. Great question. If ur LITERALLY just starting out. I suggest spending as little as possible on clubs. Something made within the last 10 years should be fine. You gotta see how much you're really gonna get into it. If u end up NOT liking as much as you think you will, then ur not out a bunch of money. If u do end up loving it, you will play a lot and your swing will change a lot in that first year. Then you will outgrow that set and can look into newer equipment and possible fitting. My first set was a borrowed Top Flite set. Used it for about half a year. Then I invested into some old TaylorMade burner irons and driver. Maybe 500$ for a full set. Then I recently got fitted and still didn't even buy new. Got equipment bout 2 years old. Prolly about 1100$ for my equipment now. Of course if money is no object, just get the prettiest clubs you want. Hopefully that helps alittle. ✌️

    I’ve been to a stealth fitting event, and the guy was having me hit the HD model as well (I told him I miss it out to the right). I plan on working on my swing more, and I’d like to keep this driver for a minimum of a few years. Because of these things, I would rather be in the Stealth or Stealth+ rather than the HD. You have any thoughts on this? It may also be my ego creeping in, but I’m a mid-high handicap and just would like to hear your opinion

    • @MGGolf
      @MGGolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much for mentioning this. This was a huge thought for me as well. I hit the regular stealth afterwards and it was just sloppy so I didn't include it. I think I was just getting tired from swinging for an hour straight and not used to that driver head. The draw version of the taylormade heads is the most forgiving on off-center strikes and the largest face, not just a draw bias. So that's a plus. Also, from what I've seen online, the taylormade "draw" type drivers are the least anti-slice drivers compared to other brands. So if you do plan on working on your swing these might be the way to go. I ended up purchasing the sim 2 max D driver (draw bias) and its very subtle on the draw. Ive made changes to my swing that only compliment the draw nature of the driver and don't hurt. I honestly feel like draw-bias drivers are slept on. Maybe its an ego thing, but who will really notice the tiny text that says "HD" under the driver when you hit a nice straight bomb. Tour players use fade bias drivers... no different to us using draw bias drivers. I think the TXG guys and 2nd Swing did a good comparison on draw type drivers you should check out. Long answer, but I hope it helps out lol.

      @@MGGolf I’m not sure I would agree the ‘draw version’ of TM drivers are always more forgiving. Typically a draw version has steeper lie and slightly closed face. If the draw version is more forgiving for your current swing, it’s likely due to your delivery, which should be obvious if you have a printout or chart from your fitting session. Look for dynamic lie, that’s the lie angle as delivered at impact. That’s due to your swing, not the club. This is one of greatest benefits of adjustable hosels to golfers like yourself who may be making substantial changes to your swing in near future. You buy a draw biased driver today, you may find it inappropriate or limiting factor in evolving your swing.
      Not to undersell the importance of shaft but I personally think shafts are more a factor in feel than flight dynamics. A soft tip can effect head delivery with some ovalizing or droop but for most part I find mass and weight balance the biggest factor. If you can feel the head, you’re more likely to properly release the head at impact resulting in more consistent striking.
      If I were in your position, I would start with finding a golf professional you feel comfortable with to get some lessons. Then spend at least 3 sessions at range working on items your instructor was working with you on between every lesson. I’d personally wait at least 2-3 months of lessons before buying any club. If you must buy a driver first, I would avoid a ‘draw bias’ but would highly suggest an adjustable hosel type to allow you some adaptability as your swing evolves. If you prefer TM drivers, I’d strongly suggest the Sim over Sim2. The original Sim has a taller face which I find many golfers see as more confidence inspiring.

    • @MGGolf
      @MGGolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Michael M Not saying that all draw versions of TM drivers are more forgiving. But if you look at the specs and dimensions of at least the stealth and sim 2 draw versions, they say it has a larger faced compared to standard and max versions. Larger face=Easier to hit.
      I agree that shaft is the biggest factor in feel during the swing. But it can also play into flight. For example,depending on the stiffness at the tip end, the kick point can vary which will effect launch, spin, and strike location. Of course this is in conjunction with whatever type head fits you best.
      So I did recently buy a sim 2 draw mostly for the largest face out of the sim 2 family. The draw bias is extremely subtle and I lowered my loft anyway which opens the face and sort of cancels the closed face of the draw type. I do plan to take a few lessons this year. Still working on finding the right coach tho.
      Only reason I bought a new driver is because I had money saved up specifically for it and I knew mine wasn't a good fit for me anymore. Bad hits were horrible and great hits were lackluster. Seeing the numbers at the fitting showed me my old driver didn't fit my game anymore.

      Hey thanks man. I think if the swing adjustment is small enough and just a physical adjustment, then that's ok. Anything past that is lesson territory.
      The fitter in this case noticed my shoulders were quite off line with my target line and helped me to see it. Just a simple "turn your shoulders to the right" will promote an in-to-out path. There was another swing adjustment they mentioned, but my body just wasn't working with it there and I had to give up on it. Not the time for that one. I guess the player needs to know their ability to change and adapt, otherwise just stick to fitting to the swing you walked in with. ✌️

Not saying I'm great at golf ( I'm def not) just that the stealth offers too much assistance where it would hinder my game. Hey thanks so much man. So this demo used a gc 2 I think... They didn't mark the club face with the little stickers so I'm not sure how much accuracy is lost there. I do agree with u on the open face straight shot. This was apparent to me immediately. I was hitting as hard as I could lol and they went decently straight. (shoulda been a huuuuge slice). Either left and right dispersion was altered through software (or ignored), or it was a 100yard wide fairway. Distance was accurate for my swing though based on my daily driver distances. You can swing as fast as you want, if it's not good contact it's not going anywhere. Half of that is speculation, and that's why I left it out of the video. End of the day, my potential for distance went up with the new driver and low spin shaft. But realistically, I'm gonna slice the shit out of it. Buying Used I agree with, but getting a fitting IMO is a must if you want to improve. You can have all the lessons in the world, but if your club weight,lie angle, and shaft are just wrong for your swing and tempo, then you are fighting a battle that doesn't need to be fought. I am a HIGH handicap player. Zero lessons, playing with used clubs. I always felt they were a bit heavy, and the lie angle was off, the toe was always way off the ground. But I was fairly sure on my stroke and stance. So I went to a Club Fitting place. Warmed up with my clubs, all bad, slices and shanks, nothing straight, mostly nerves, but like I said, im not terribly great. The tech then handed me a club, a tad shorter, different lie angle, weight a little less, told me, change nothing, and swing away. Dead ringer, straight as an arrow and about 50 yds longer. For every club type in my bag, it was a night and day difference. Guy said, my swing and tempo are fine, the clubs were wrong. I spent 1800$ right then and there having my entire bag adjusted. New shafts, new grips, new angles, new weights, all to match what we dialed in on in the 4 hour session. My game has VASTLY improved, going from an average of 110-120 for 18 holes, to 90-100. I've given myself a base to build off of, to fine tune my game and hopefully in a year or so, get below 90, which is my ultimate goal. Get fitted, make sure the clubs are right for you, and use that as a base to build off of. If you trust the clubs are right, everything else will follow.

    A few things I noticed. I don't think you had ideal shoes and it seemed you were slipping a little bit. Also at your transition you tend to bend your wrists more and not turn quite as deep. That is a lot of added movement and "extension" that doesn't really translate to speed or power. Try keeping your left wrist more flat and feel like you are rotating more instead of using arms and wrists. I really respect the grind and ambition to get better, for sure!

    I strongly suggest that you get yourself a golf coach.
    At the moment you are generating most of your swing speed with your arms & upper body, but you are hardly using your legs & lower body. If you find a coach who will show you how to use your legs & lower body correctly you will start to hit bombs, with much better dispersion.

    “Is it worth getting fitted?” And “It’s free at this demo event” 😂
    Don’t waste time getting fitted for clubs when you’re shooting over 100 unless your clubs feel like wet spaghetti or a broom handle when you swing them. If they do, just try to figure out what flex of shafts you need and trade your clubs to get a decent used set with shafts that fit you a little better. “It’s not the arrow, it’s the Indian”
    When you feel like you hit the wall at improving your game (probably between bogey golf and a single digit handicap) would be my suggestion for an actual fitting. At that point you would likely benefit greatly from it.

    • @MGGolf
      @MGGolf  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sorry dude. Disagree. At 30 handicap you prolly don't know your swing speed, associated shaft stiffness/kick, or really any metrics. This fitting was my introduction to equipment.
      I got fit into p790s as a 30 handicap, still use them as a mid handicap player, and know they will go further.
      They fit me into a forgiving driver head with a low spin stiff shaft from a reg flex high spin. Never gave shafts a second thought before this.
      Until you get into a fitting and try different options and see the effects with a fitter explaining things, I don't think one can understand equipment well (especially a beginner/high handicap player).
      I'm obsessive and research things crazy before a purchase, but I still get fit for proper equipment.

    I don't think any golfer should get fitted clubs until he's around the 80's point. That's when you can actually start to tell a big difference in clubs. But at a 30 you're getting a lot of mis hits and your swing is inconsistent which makes it hard to fit. Especially these days when they go off of attack angle, and weight distribution and hand placement and all this stuff for fittings now it's wild.

    My personal opinion is you don't need to get fitted clubs until you are about to break 80. My reasoning is because your swing has to be very good and consistent to break 80, and right now this swing isn't great. It's a solid swing but your hip and body rotation and arms and wrists need work. After you get that work done, you would need a new set of clubs. Like others have said, a lesson would be way more beneficial first.

    • @MGGolf

      I needed new clubs. I was playing game improvement clubs that weren't helpful. I disagree with not getting fit. The point of the fitting is to fit TO the swing You've got. And a swing will change through your entire career playing. Check my recent videos. My swing has changed a lot and I'm playing the clubs they fit me into and they feel great still. I don't at all disagree with getting lessons as I do that regularly as well. I plan to keep my clubs at least until my swing speed increases and I need x stiff clubs. I don't have disposable income so I tried this free demo day/fitting event to get myself on a launch monitor in front of professionals and see what my numbers are. Based on that I did research on the subject and made a purchase ( I wanted new clubs anyway ) with similar spec'ed used clubs. I'm sure I could have picked up another brand head/shaft and been in similar forgiveness and distance categories, but I'm a researcher when I purchase. That's just me.
      Not everyone has money for new clubs or time to go try every club out there, so basing purchases on company marketing is close enough. High handicap = grab the "max" version. Low handicap = grab the "low spin" version. But of course, lessons and learning techniques trump all of that

I get that this was a free event, but I didn’t see them put any of the stock ventus’ on there, and it seemed they only tried a high launch hazardous shaft and that kai’li. There may be another shaft profile in a similar launch that might give you a better result. It also looked like they gave you a stealth HD which is naturally going to give you more spin and higher launch. Did you hit the normal stealth at this event?
      I’m sorry I keep coming back to these comments on a 2 year old video but him saying TaylorMade charges $200 for any stock shaft was a straight up lie from the fitters (you also can’t buy shafts from TaylorMade directly, you have to go through a third party as a typical consumer) they were really trying to get you to buy the stealth over the SIM (definitely a better driver than the stealth)

      @mattgenovese5891 I was playing a weak slice when I went in, so the hd model makes sense for the head choice. And the pick up in distance with the kaili shaft was massive, so prolly no need to further explore shafts. I'm not trying to defend their choices or pretend I know their intents. Just wanted to make an informative video from a beginner perspective.
      After this event I purchased a used sim 2 driver and then bought a used kaili shaft. Both costing less than half of a brand new stealth. I'm sure at this point I could go into another fitting much more informed on equipment and with a better swing. But as a beginner I barely understood the difference between different shaft stiffness. So I took all I could out of the demo day while understanding they are essentially salesmen
