Thanks!! You're the reason I got into golf in the first place! Your videos inspired me to pick up golf, and then again inspired me to make TH-cam! Waddaplaya!
Is this me? Everywhere you look guys are shooting scratch but there’s so many of us just scrambling to play bogey golf. I bombed a 290 on par 4 yesterday within 10 of the green and carded a 5. This is my golf life. Keep swinging dude.
As a single digit handicap golfer who just got back into golf after not playing for 14 years I was making alot of the mistakes you were the first three rounds of golf. I eventually started practicing, working out in the gym and at home. Getting my swing fixed, invested in my golf bag and playing more rounds of golf. Some people are naturally talented at golf, some have to work harder. It helps if you have a little bit of both. Good luck and work on your game. You’ll get there and enjoy golf it’s a great sport.
I feel you. There’s a long par three at my course, probably 220 yards. The other day I put it on the green and five putted for a 6. I wanted to curl up and die. Lol.
Golf Sidekick said that if you can't hit a shot 150y reliably, then you need to get some lessons from a pro. That's what I did and it's what helped me the most. I'm breaking 100 regularly now. The second thing that helped is that if a club isn't working (like my 3 wood), leave it in the bag. Nice video!
Thanks! That video where GolfSidekick talked about having a 150 club was the video that convinced me that maybe I can actually pick up golf and break 100! I think a private lesson would do wonders
Thanks, I'm glad that people are finding the videos relatable! I'm trying to be open and honest, you'll see a lot of bad shots and silly mistakes here.
Thanks for posting these. It's candid videos like these that help keep me motivated. I have a high handicap, too, and I have yet to break 100. I know it'll happen; I just have to be patient. I just keep telling myself, "Don't give up. Cuss the whole time if you have to, but don't give up." 😆
I love this video! The truth is that most golfers are at this stage... a lot of people will come here and disagree... I live in a country club in PA, and at least over here, most golfers barely break 100... this is very relatable... thank you!
Thanks for the positive comments 😁 I play at a Public course and see all different types of handicaps. It sometimes feels like we are the worst players on the course, but we are not alone!
I’m a 12 handicap and the thing that makes you better than me is that even after your bad shots, you still come back to the camera smiling. I could never master that aspect of my game.
It helps that I don't set myself super high expectations! Honestly, I do get frustrated sometimes, but I'm out there to have fun. So you shake it off, and your next shot might be your best shot.
Love the video and the brutal honesty that comes with high handicap golf, which is the majority of weekend golfers. Hey, I was around your skill level 2-3 years ago. Now im averaging low 90s, with my best round of 85 last week. I haven't had a lesson since i took a one semester golf class at community college 10 years ago, so im just trying to get my game there on my own. One thing I noticed that could help you a ton is club selection. You hit driver on a lot of the tees, and 3 wood off the deck. One of the first times I let the ego battle go of hitting my long clubs, I took my driver and 3 wood out of the bag and just played my irons. Turns out when you mishit irons, they arent WAY out of play, just a little. And they are easier to get the ball in the air and forward. The next piece of advice I'd give you, is spend time on your 120 yard shots and in. Go to the range and hit a full bucket of just SW, PW, 9 iron. Take half shots, full shots, chip shots. Just focus on striking the ball in the center of the face and swinging easy. That tip alone dropped probably 10 strokes off my game in a season.
This is very very good advice! I just played a round yesterday and was making an effort to put thought in my club selection. Instead of trying to go 3 wood into PW, just hit two solid 7irons. Much easier to control, and when you spend as much time in the rough as I do, it really makes a difference. I'll make a video where I take out those clubs from my bag and we can see how I fare! Thanks!
Really enjoyed some of your videos today. I played my first 9 holes yesterday and was horrified by how much I struggled. I had a few good holes but completely lost count on a few too. It’s been nice to see content from genuine high handicap players to aspire to in the short term. You hit some great shots, keep it up
Thanks! I remember my first 9 holes being horrifying as well 😅 keep at it, we all have to start somewhere right? Late start to the season this year for me, but I can't wait to get back out there
Thank God for this video. I thought I was the only one. I'm exactly in the same spot your game is right now. I cannot break a hundred to save my life. I know I haven't been playing very long but everything you talk about is exactly where my game is at.
Thanks, I'll keep on grinding! Haven't had as much time to play the last two months, so I'm going to try and squeeze in as many rounds as possible before the end of the fall. Maybe see you on the course!
Started playing in my 50s and breaking a hundred is the dream every Saturday. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't, but getting out on there is so much fun, the exercise and camaraderie... awesome 🙂
Really good video and insightful commentary, Joseph! I can see you have good physical coordination and I bet your scores will drop steadily with continued practice and playing. I look forward to watching more. Thanks for sharing with us!
Great video buddy. It refreshing to see "bad golf" most channels are scratch golfers.. I'm not saying you're bad, you're just like the rest of us weekend warriors
Exactly!! I wanted to show that we aren't all scratch golfers getting par's and birdies left and right. A lot of "Breaking 100" type videos are from those who have long passed that milestone. I'm in it currently, as a lot of recreational golfers I'm sure are.
A few days ago I went in to try and break 100 for the first time. I got 101. I had two par 3s that’s I got an 8 on bc of bunkers. I was so annoyed. I was on track to doing the best I’ve ever done. Coulda broke 90 if I had done things a bit differently. Especially 4 putting when it was totally avoidable by taking an extra 30 seconds to look at my shot before I take them. I hope I can get close again bc I never do good twice in a row.
Keep at it my friend! If you've gotten close once before you can do it again. It's frustrating to get a score and know exactly where you lost strokes, and you know you could have done better. The few times I got 94, there were a few holes that I completely goofed and 4 putted, so I know the feeling. Maybe won't be the next time you play, but you're breaking 100 this summer. You got this.
Loved the video. Also had some struggles with the slice and was doing the same thing you are doing. Letting your arms go from your chest at downswing. The "towel-trick helped me cure this as I was forced to keep my arms to my chest by squeezing tight. Try it, I am sure you will cure that slice as I did. On hole 3 you kept the arms nicely tucked with the driver.
Thanks! I'll give the towel trick a try. I've seen it done on TH-cam but haven't tried it myself. It's usually my driver that gets me into a lot of trouble 😅
Love your video. I started out 4 years ago shooting 125. Two keys to better golf if you don't mind me saying is. 1. Alignment and 2. swing pace. You don't have to try and hit the ball 100 mph to be consistent. Nice and slow. If you can find someone to give you some good tips take advantage of that. I was very blessed to find a former PGA pro to work with me. After two years of hard work l'm shooting in the mid 80s. Don't give up you will get there.
Wow mid 80's, hopefully one day I can get there. I need to practice more and definitely have a coach help me out. I'll be sure to post that journey here!
Hello from Ireland. I feel your pain. I can count on one hand the number of times I've broken 100. My biggest hurdle is the mental game. Keeping calm and refocusing after the many inevitable bad shots. Also, i find if i overthink it messes with my head. I play much better when im relaxed with an almost don't care attitude. Consistent iron play is also a huge issue for me. Generally good with my driver and putter... everything else in-between is a bit of a lottery TBH. Great video BTW.
Thanks, I'm right there with you. It helps if you play with people you're familiar with and you have a relaxed fun atmosphere, that's when I play my best 👌
Thanks! Wanted to have a 'real' take on my actual game. Most the videos I see on youtube are aspirational, great shots, great scores, etc. This is just an honest take on what my game looks like, and I'm sure there are many of us out there who can relate!
Try setting your right foot back behind you 3-4" from your left foot. This will promote more of an inside swing and stops the slice. Great video btw! Keep it up.
I enjoyed that. This kind of golf looks horribly familiar but it was really valuable to see a playback of everything I do. It's a good way of looking at it, that a high handicap means you are going to be scrambling so to be mentally prepared for that and to work on avoiding it.
Fairly new to golf here myself, started playing at the beginning of the year. I am trying to break 100 by the end of the year. My 1st round was 128 and has been consistently coming down last few rounds have been around the 110. So hoping to break a 100, I have found playing with a positive mindset has really helped me so far. Instead of swing, swear, look for ball and repeat. Just say it’s moving and smile.
@@fromduffertodriverhopefully I will, if I don’t fair enough and that will be my target next year. My last two rounds were 112 & 114, I always seem to one hole that is a horror show.
Great video. I am over the moon if I get a double bogey on a par 5, and am doing cartwheels when I snag the occasional par. But I usually have one hole where I play shots like an actual golfer and that is what brings me back the following week.
I'm the exact handicap as you and videos like this really make me feel better about being on the course. So often I find myself apologizing to whoever I'm playing with for trying to get better.
I felt the exact same way! The more I play, the more I realize that not everyone is amazing at golf, and as long as you're respectful and keep up with the pace of play, your fellow golfers won't care what handicap you are. Keep playing, and keep getting better!
@@fromduffertodriverI'm an 8 handicap and honestly any decent golfer knows how it is, they were in your shoes when they started it before they got lessons or whatever. I get it though I used to apologize when I played with better golfers when I wasn't as good as I am now. (I'm not good at golf I'm out there trying to survive)
This was a fun video to watch. You have the ability to hit the ball well and a good looking swing. You could EASILY start shooting low 90s by putting the right club in your hands. Stop trying to hit driver off every tee. You were always in trouble from the start. Hit an 8 iron if you need too. Start to think about getting to the green in 3 instead of 2. It’s a hell of a lot better than getting there in 4. Next thing is considering your misses. Right now you are still struggling with good ball striking. Play for your misses like Ben Hogan used to teach. Don’t aim at pins, instead ignore the pin and aim to the middle of the green. Good luck man! You definitely have a chance to play good golf!
Sending your shot over the green has very little if nothing to do with your follow through. With a wedge a follow through is fantastic in catching the ball and contributing to both loft and spin. You’re launching because of either your downswing or, more likely, too large of a backswing. When I use a 54, for example, to chip only 15 feet away from me to the hole (say I’m 6 feet into the fairway off the green), I only come back to about abeam my hip, comedown at the ball and also focus on an almost full follow through. You’d be surprised, try reversing it is all I’m saying. You’ll probably feel like you’re hitting it thinner at the start but having the follow through will force you to come down more at the ball than across it in your wedge shots, and then you’ll get that awesome feeling when the ball catches the full face of the club and literally rolls off over the top as it moves forward. Just a suggestion.
Good videos thanks to sharing your golf course with us :) I you don't mind, I can give you a little advice with your irons shot. I've noticed when your started your backswing, you engage your hands first and you begun to arm/roll them a bit, it's not good at all for regularity and to have a good trajectory without compensate, but it's pretty easy to fix that with a bit of practice ^^ I'm pretty sure your motor preferences in your golf swing is to have a earthy posture because your weight in your posture is on the back of your foots, you are very anchored in the ground. And your low mobile point, it means your motor for turning is your hips, the low back for be precise, it's your starting point in the backswing and downswing. Your axis is pretty vertical too (I can be wrong, you have to test for be sure if all i say for you it's pretty natural and balanced, but what I see in video it's this) So for this type of natural specifities of your body (the same of my father so i know well), you have to be in line during the begining of your backswing, start to rotate with your hips (all the upper body gonna move in the same time) and be really connected with your arms (elbow pretty close each other) without move at all your hands before passing your right thigh, and then you begin to arm pretty quick your hands and continue to rotate your body all the way up while keeping your arms very connected. If not, your downswing look pretty good, your start to engage your hips first at the descent. But i have noticed at 4:43 in the video that your balance is not good and you fall a bit frontward because your right foot slip in back in the grass. You have to focus to stay your right foot at his place. Maybe a better backswing will help to be more balanced during all the movements because I guess your compensate a lot to have the face square at the impact, and will fix this foot problem. Practice that, i thinck it will be really helpfull for you and continue to make videos like this, it was fun ;)
My home muni !! I've played this front 9 about 150 times in the last 3 years... have hit every one of these lies, lol. The green on 8 was rough in 2023 !
Guys golf is a really tough game. Trust me, not everyone is shooting scratch. It takes dedication to practicing and hitting balls almost everyday, and that's AFTER you come up with a decent, repeatable swing. If you can hit your drives 250 that's really all the length you need. Of course longer is better, but consistency is the name of the game. I think the best way to score lower sooner is to start with the short game and move out. Start with putting, then chipping, and slowly work your way out. Hit ball first then ground. Good luck.
You had more than few moments of brilliance! Great content and I really enjoyed watching. Was wondering are you currently playing a urethane or premium golf ball? Not tradiionally preferred from a high-handicapper, but they generally have lower ball flight.
Thank you! When I buy golf balls, lately I've been getting the Wilson Staff "Soft" golf balls. But honestly most the time I'm using balls I've found in the woods when looking for my ball 😅
You played ok. Looks like a bit of uncertainty crept in sometimes. I never broken a 100. Worked on my swing over Winter, played one full round then the day after tore my achilles. Biggest hurdle for me are lost balls/penalties
loved the video, I know there are alot of people giving tips haha half of which arent gonna help. All I can say is just enjoy it, the average player doesnt break 100 every time they play as told to me by my local pro. the game is hard, you will get better. Just stick to it and focus on each shot !!!! Keep it up bud.
Honestly your swing is decent, big thing is mental blocks. Practice swings good but swing changes a bit when you line up to the ball. My big hurdle was hazards, I overthought about them and as soon as I didn’t my scores plummeted. If you don’t plan to land the ball in the water, just don’t even think about the water. You’ve got a lot of potential dude! Solid swing, solid understanding of what mistakes you’re making, just keep it up!
Thanks! I've removed practice swings from my routine for this exact reason. Good idea about not overthinking hazards. If you're overthinking it and looking at it, you'll subconsciously aim for it
@@fromduffertodriver , thanks I hope so. I have played for years but never took it seriously or played often enough to get serious until I retired. I retired in South Carolina, Myrtle Beach. There are 80 courses down here so I started trying to get better and now I play a couple days a week. I have played with a few of your fellow country men and women in fact. Nice folks. They like to come down mostly in the winter and play. Any way thanks for the encouragement and thanks for sharing your journey. We’ll get there it just takes time and patience and lot’s of practice.
thanks for the great video! check out tom saguto; he has his own online golf school that teaches stack and tilt. one small change i made from watching saguto was to put more weight on my front foot and leave it there...helped me make much more consistent contact. i used to shoot around 100, now i'm low 90's and occasionally getting into the mid 80's if it's an easier course. but thanks again! i enjoyed it very much.
25 handicap so i can relate to your struggles keep it in play. No penalties 100% take the conservative approach, always add extra club. firm 90% shot more reliable that a 100/110% swinging out of your boots. Make your practice 3 holes rather than range practice. Hit 2 options off the tee a long and a safe ie favourite hybrid and driver. You will find some holes safe hybrid works and you score easy bogey helps give you a 2nd option on nemisis holes etc.
Although I prefer to see golf channels like yours have a good round, seeing others who are inconsistent like myself makes me feel like I’m not alone. I went to the range earlier and it took at least 80 balls before I started to hit better so a valuable lesson was learned😄 Have you tried slowing your backswing down so you have more control through the swing
I can't tell what to do with driver but with irons your trail arm should be extended much longer and a club should create steaper plane. You are draging a club behind you which means you have to rely on your wrists to straighten up the shot ;)
This. I've been trying to work on my swing, as my lowest point in my swing is usually at or behind the ball, instead of past the ball. Good eye! Been working on straightening my arms since this video.
I have the opposite problem...my driving is relatively reliable--I found out I have ADHD, this past year, so staying focused is actually my biggest issue--but my short game/putting is where things usually end up unraveling for me. It's fairly common, unfortunately, for me to be in a position to start off putting for birdie and walk away with a double bogey. And my wedges...if I'm 60+ yards out, I'm fine. If I'm only a couple of yards off the green, I'm usually okay. Five to fifty-five yards? It's a crapshoot at that point. I've broken 100, this summer...ironically, I was golfing with three guys who had never played the course before, so I was constantly thinking about it so I could advise them on where the green was, where to stay out of trouble. I'm generally thrilled to score anything less than double-bogey, and I'm pretty consistently under 110. Just trying to ease into a new point range...
It's definitely a slow grind to improve your scores. I wonder if playing with the 3 course newbies helped keep you more focused on the current hole since you were spending time thinking to advise them. My best scores have come when I was really taking my time to think about my next shot, and what my intent was, instead of grabbing the longest club and hitting in the direction of the hole. Here's hoping you start breaking 100 consistently this summer, keep at it! Keep practicing that short game!
To keep it real, there’s a heck of a lot more golfers like you than there are shooting 80 and below. Don’t be hard on yourself, unless you’re playing on the Tour, nobody cares about your score aside from you! No criticism from anybody but yourself. Golf is hard!
Golf is hard! And I'm always trying to beat my PB, sometimes to the detriment of having fun. We have to remember that's it's just a game, and the end goal should be to have fun!
"Shot Tracer" on the app store on your phone. It's like 7$ one time fee, but it can be quite finicky. Bonus points if you're already recording on your phone like I am!
@fromduffertodriver Love it, thanks! I'll give it a go. I record on my phone (iphone) too, brilliant quality from just your phone 🙂 Although, I tend to just record to give myself something to learn from (real vs feel, can be so different in my swing 🤣)
At your level, I would suggest taking more club and then less swing. Hitting a straight on target 5 iron is a whole lot better than a 5h 170 and into the rough. You spent the whole day in the rough. You try to get under the ball. Hit down, not up. 90 is easily within your capabilities. They call it 'course management' and 'swinging inside of yourself'. Try it. You have everything to gain and nothing to lose.
This is something I need to work on. Focus less on trying to smash the ball as far as I can and focus on hitting down on the ball with solid contact. Almost ran out of time this season but goal is to break 90!
If only you hit your practice swings!! And that little jump-up on the chips/short pitches, I do that too. It ruins so many of my shots. Good luck buddy.
An app called "Shot Tracer", got it on the Play Store on my phone, I think it was 7$. It's not the most accurate tool, but it does let you adjust the shape of the tracer line.
Driver fix is simple, address the ball then move the head back 2 club heads back along the swing path THEN start the swing. This moves the low point inside and behind the ball.
I feel you, I only started playing golf last year... This year (after I filmed this video) I actually took a lesson and it helped a lot with my swing! Extra 20yrds per club easy. And I'm 36, so it's never too late to start!
@@fromduffertodriver exactly! Never give up. Keep working at it. I never thought I’d even enjoy golf until my brother in law was needing someone to play with him. I couldn’t afford lessons but there’s plenty of TH-cam videos out here to help us. I watch quite a bit of Danny Maud videos myself that seem to help.
hi mate with the driver try gripping it so u can see ur top two knuckles on ur left hand so ur holding it quite on the top face of the grip so it feels like ur going to hook ur shot but you wont and it will feel good also try lower ur swing on the back swing instead of coming over the top as thats one of the main reasons of slicing but very good vid
Yeah mate recently I bought new clubs and couldn’t hit the ball for my life and I changed my grip and I’m getting roughly over par by about 4 on a par 31 I make sure I can see both knuckles with all my clubs and it seems to work really well with me mate best of luck to you on the course pal
I recommend working on your short game (pitching, chipping, and putting). It's the fastest way to lower your scores. Keep working at it and always try to have a good attitude.
Thx for the vidéo :) allways cool to see other people like us :D I just see that you're allways aiming left of your target. Is there a reason for this?
0:20-0:28. Thats me in a nutshell. im new too golf and i also dont take off my glove even when i putt. Its just 1 less thing to worry about for me. Seemed like ur hybrid was letting u down .
Way to lay it out there for all to see, warts and all. Maybe some unsolicited thoughts? Work back from the hole to YOUR best, meaning most accurate full swing, club. Say wedge or ??? Leave yourself that distance for the approach. Statistically I think the 3 wood is just as accurate as the driver, you should see which you hit more consistently, give the other a break. You may want to try a round teeing up with a 5 iron. Leave the driver and woods at home. Interesting what you can learn. That slice looks like you're over the top. Relax man, a 170 yard anything in play is better than an out of bounds, in the rough or worse, bunker, or water shot. You made some nice putts. Strive to keep a miss just enough to leave yourself a gimmy. Good job sir.
I try a few rounds leaving the driver at home, and another using only my irons. Results were pretty interesting! I'll post videos of them soon. Appreciate the advice.
@@fromduffertodriver Thanks for responding. Not taking any credit. I played a guy 25 years ago who teed up with the 5, he shot an 82. Hmm moment. Played a round with a retired widower 20 years ago. She didn't hit anything over 170 yards, But one ball for the round. Shot a 72. Eating some humble pie that day; but what an opportunity to think out of the box. Good luck sir, play the percentages.
You should consider adding another golfer, even if it's only a few shots here and there. It helps break the video up and golf's exploded on TH-cam with highhcp and lowhcp comp 🏅 It's just fun to watch ppl golf when ya stuck inside over winter. Maybe Gangnam Guy - we can start calling him Double G 😆😎⛳
On the 2nd hole when you teed off, u can’t address the ball like u did and take a “practice” swing. Because when u swing and miss the ball after addressing it, that counts as a swing. Otherwise any time a professional player swung and missed he could just say “no actually that was a practice swing” and no one could prove otherwise
100% right. My partner called me out on it, and jokingly I brushed it off as a practice swing, but she clearly saw me miss lol. I only found out about the rule afterwards.
@@fromduffertodriver ah okay sorry didn’t mean to come down on u too hard about it I’m just a stickler for the rules, but I’ve made many mistakes myself as I’m learning
I'm no swing expert, but it looks like you are trying to "scoop" the ball when you hit your irons (such as at 05:03). It makes you lurch at the ball. I imagine that if you tweaked this your consistency might be improved.
I'm using an app on my phone called "Shot Tracer", I think it was maybe 7$ or something like that. I take the videos on my phone, put them through the app to add/adjust the shot tracer line. Then throw it all back onto my laptop and use Adobe Premiere Pro to edit. Hope this helps!
@@fromduffertodriver thanks. An 8 two sevens and 71 for the other 15 holes. To be fair, there are 4 par 3's under 125 yds and 4 par 4's under 300 yds. So if you take my 22 on the 3 "proper" holes it's more indicative. But I parred the 18th and that's what brings you back isn't it.
I feel your pain. I too am a very high handicapper but wondering why it seems that you are 14 over par and scored 50 based on the scorecard at 12:21. Is it because the fourth hole would only be a double-par max or just bad math? No worries, just one more reason for me to watch you play another round.
@@jaggerjards7236 I am guilty of bad math here 🤦♂️ I have another video where I actually break 100 over a full 18 holes, but I definitely goofed this one. Good eye, only a few people noticed 🤫
Keep it up! One tip of advice, you and your playing partners kept stepping on each other's putting lines. Be mindful of where you step when getting your ball out of the cup.
King Cobra "Radspeed" irons and hybrid. Beginner friendly clubs that just felt right when I was trying them out. Check out my previous "what's in my bag" video
What Breaking 100 Looks Like is carrying a scorecard pencil with an eraser + mulligan on 1st tee, playing every OB shot as a lateral hazard, rechipping with a different wedge to get the shot right and blowing off 2-3 footers you know we might miss if we tried. Actually breaking 100 looks like keeping tee shots between the trees, developing wizardry with recovery shots when that doesn’t happen, not hitting driver every single hole, and finally feeling like you have an idea around and on the green. Approach shots will still be all over the place, but will at least have some distance to them. Also a 14 club bag is overkill when learning. 10 to 12 is more than fine. Ok to own a full set and even some extra clubs for fun, but not necessary to bag all of them.
I'm going to try a round where I take out my trouble clubs, so my driver 3w and hybrid, with a focus of just staying on the fairway. I'll post a video on how it goes!
Yeah I avoid that 3 wood for now lol. I'm using Cobra Radspeed irons that I bought in the off season. My other clubs are a used hodgepodge mix. I'll see if moving my rear leg helps, thanks for the tip!
nice man, i just broke 50 for the first time a few weeks ago. i shot 49 on a par 35. is there a part two or are you just doubling your score to break 100?
25 handicaper here..... struggling with iron shots and distance. I see that your iron rests on the ground at 45 degrees... are you finding that it hits farther that way? I've been resting my iron pretty flat on the ground..maybe Im doing it wrong.
I've found for me that I have better contact when I don't rest my irons flat on the ground - If you haven't taken any lessons yet, I took some after this video and it easily added 15-20yrds per club. I wasn't twisting my body enough so I was leaving a lot of power on the table. I highly recommend a lesson or two, they might find a very small simple fix that can change your game!
Take them one at a time my friend! Instead of hitting longest club, I'm trying to hit safest - so even if I mis-hit the ball it will still be in an ok position
@@fromduffertodriver Thank you. I will keep at it. I really need to get fitted for clubs and also take a lesson or two. I'm 6'9" and use regular sized clubs and i have to bend over way too much to make solid contact with the ball and not top it. Also when I first started golfing I had no idea what the different types of irons were and I unfortunately bought a set of nike blades on ebay (because they were cheap) and they are the hardest irons to hit on the face of the earth. But when you do get a sweet spot hit, they are amazing. lol.

Lol.
Did this exactly me yesterday hit it 310 was 10 yards from the green and walked of with a 6
@@jpdst29whereas I would take 5 shots to make the green and 1 putt😂
Golf Sidekick said that if you can't hit a shot 150y reliably, then you need to get some lessons from a pro. That's what I did and it's what helped me the most. I'm breaking 100 regularly now. The second thing that helped is that if a club isn't working (like my 3 wood), leave it in the bag. Nice video!
Thanks! That video where GolfSidekick talked about having a 150 club was the video that convinced me that maybe I can actually pick up golf and break 100! I think a private lesson would do wonders
so much respect for making a video about this. i feel like most ppl are insecure about not shooting par. this was awesome to watch thank you
Thanks, I'm glad that people are finding the videos relatable! I'm trying to be open and honest, you'll see a lot of bad shots and silly mistakes here.
I broke 90 one time. Then I started playing the back 9
Every now and then, I look at this comment, and it still makes me laugh 😄
😂😂 I feel that!!
Thanks for posting these. It's candid videos like these that help keep me motivated. I have a high handicap, too, and I have yet to break 100. I know it'll happen; I just have to be patient. I just keep telling myself, "Don't give up. Cuss the whole time if you have to, but don't give up." 😆
Keep cussing and you'll get there!!
You'll get there! Keep at it, and make sure to have fun!
glad i found this channel, i love watching people play courses around me, keep up that grind bud!
Thanks, I'll keep on grinding! Haven't had as much time to play the last two months, so I'm going to try and squeeze in as many rounds as possible before the end of the fall. Maybe see you on the course!
Started playing in my 50s and breaking a hundred is the dream every Saturday. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't, but getting out on there is so much fun, the exercise and camaraderie... awesome 🙂
I though I wouldn't like the social aspect, but I've made a few friends on the course! Keep at it my friend
This video is very relatable. Thanks for documenting your journey and for posting it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love this kind of videos. I can relate to it. All we can do is love the game and keep on enjoying it! No matter what.
Love the game, even when not playing well. Sure it's frustrating, but it makes the good shots that much more worth it!
“You were robbed” she says on the first putt of the first hole after you run it 12 feet past. Had me rolling 😂
lol I know, I sent it the same distance on the other side, was such a bad putt!
Really good video and insightful commentary, Joseph! I can see you have good physical coordination and I bet your scores will drop steadily with continued practice and playing. I look forward to watching more. Thanks for sharing with us!
Thanks! Hoping to break 90 this summer. More videos to come soon!
Well done, I really enjoyed this video mate! Also loved the positive attitude throughout the 9 holes. Keep the vids coming 🎉
Thanks! I try to always stay positive, but sometimes it just doesn't work out that way
Loved the video.
@@fromduffertodriver, really enjoying your vids. As a golfer just breaking 100 I can relate to so much.
Great attitude. I’m gonna stick around for your break 90 videos. 👍
I appreciate that! It's coming soon, I can feel it....
Fantastic video great to see even when you hit a bad shot you don’t edit it out or take the shot again. Very pure video 😊
Keep it up.
Thanks for the tip! I gotta try this and see if it helps my drive
I enjoyed that. This kind of golf looks horribly familiar but it was really valuable to see a playback of everything I do. It's a good way of looking at it, that a high handicap means you are going to be scrambling so to be mentally prepared for that and to work on avoiding it.
"Horribly Familiar" hehe, I need to use that! Glad you enjoyed the video, hope it helps to know that you aren't the only one out there struggling.
You got a great mindset, with scores like that, you'll definitely break 100 this season
@@fromduffertodriverhopefully I will, if I don’t fair enough and that will be my target next year. My last two rounds were 112 & 114, I always seem to one hole that is a horror show.
There's always that one hole! A bad chip or a lost ball. You play enough, eventually everything lines up and you get a killer score
Great video. I am over the moon if I get a double bogey on a par 5, and am doing cartwheels when I snag the occasional par. But I usually have one hole where I play shots like an actual golfer and that is what brings me back the following week.
This is what keeps bringing me back too! Those pars will slowly become more and more common, let's keep at it 💪
I'm the exact handicap as you and videos like this really make me feel better about being on the course.
Thanks! I've been trying to keep my driver in the bag for now since it only leads to trouble 😅
This is good advice, I think a good lesson will help me get my chipping game where I need it to be. At least I know what I need to work on!
Love the honesty of this well done, subscribed 🙌🏼
Awesome, thank you!
Good genuine video man! Keep posting them and people will surely follow your journey to scoring 90 👍
Thanks! That's the plan :)
Good videos thanks to sharing your golf course with us :)
I you don't mind, I can give you a little advice with your irons shot. I've noticed when your started your backswing, you engage your hands first and you begun to arm/roll them a bit, it's not good at all for regularity and to have a good trajectory without compensate, but it's pretty easy to fix that with a bit of practice ^^
I'm pretty sure your motor preferences in your golf swing is to have a earthy posture because your weight in your posture is on the back of your foots, you are very anchored in the ground. And your low mobile point, it means your motor for turning is your hips, the low back for be precise, it's your starting point in the backswing and downswing. Your axis is pretty vertical too (I can be wrong, you have to test for be sure if all i say for you it's pretty natural and balanced, but what I see in video it's this)
So for this type of natural specifities of your body (the same of my father so i know well), you have to be in line during the begining of your backswing, start to rotate with your hips (all the upper body gonna move in the same time) and be really connected with your arms (elbow pretty close each other) without move at all your hands before passing your right thigh, and then you begin to arm pretty quick your hands and continue to rotate your body all the way up while keeping your arms very connected.
Appreciate the tips! I've taken a few group lessons since this video, so my swing is doing a bit better now. You'll see in the next few videos I post!
I actually really enjoyed this. Im about the same level so keen to follow your progress!
Thanks! More videos coming soon!
My home muni !! I've played this front 9 about 150 times in the last 3 years... have hit every one of these lies, lol. The green on 8 was rough in 2023 !
It was really rough!!! Felt like I was putting through craters most rounds. Maybe I'll bump into you this season!
Wait Lance I'm almost positive that you're the one that sold my girlfriend and I golf clubs a few years back!!!
lol, that was definitely me Course is opening soon, lets head out sometime !@@fromduffertodriver
Good luck.
Exactly I can hit the long ball cuz I used to play baseball yet I can barely break 100. It’s all about accuracy.
Great advice! On that note, time to start practicing my short game
Love your vid, we play a very similar game , it’s all about having fun and enjoying yourself 👍🏻
All about having fun! I'm not spending all this money to be miserable lol
You played ok. Looks like a bit of uncertainty crept in sometimes. I never broken a 100. Worked on my swing over Winter, played one full round then the day after tore my achilles.
Biggest hurdle for me are lost balls/penalties
A few lost balls will kill your score, I've had it happen to me many times. Hope your Achilles gets better and you start ripping up the course again 💪
loved the video, I know there are alot of people giving tips haha half of which arent gonna help. All I can say is just enjoy it, the average player doesnt break 100 every time they play as told to me by my local pro. the game is hard, you will get better. Just stick to it and focus on each shot !!!! Keep it up bud.
I really want to get on the course more and play! Didn't have enough time this year, but my number one goal is to have fun.
Just keep playing brother; It'll get better quick. hilarious follow-through on your wedge shots though!
I'm really trying to work on that follow through 😅 it looks ridiculous!
If you're overthinking it and looking at it, you'll subconsciously aim for it
I have been trying to break a hundred for about two years now. The other day I shot a 100, oh man just one put away. lol. I’m getting there.
So close!!! This year will be the year 💪
@@fromduffertodriver , thanks I hope so.
Good video! Very brave for putting yourself out there! Stack and Tilt swing method helped me. Good luck!
Thank you. I'll check out that swing method and see if it helps me out any!
thanks for the great video! check out tom saguto; he has his own online golf school that teaches stack and tilt. one small change i made from watching saguto was to put more weight on my front foot and leave it there...helped me make much more consistent contact. i used to shoot around 100, now i'm low 90's and occasionally getting into the mid 80's if it's an easier course. but thanks again! i enjoyed it very much.
I do the crappy ball for shots over water thing too!
Best way to not tense up too much!
I broke 90 for the first time the other day, golf is hard man, keep pushing and playing smart and youll be a 15 hcp before you know it
Thanks, that's the plan!
Steer clear of the driver for a while, it’s the hardest club to hit. I haven’t owned a driver for 10 yrs. Honest video, nice job.
Doing this for the next time I'm on the course. I'll try to focus on actually hitting the fairway. Thanks!
My next round I post I take a more conservative approach, and don't even use my driver the whole round. Wonder how I'll do 🤔
„Never give up“ is truly what every golfer should have on his/her mind.
Easier said than done I'm afraid
Although I prefer to see golf channels like yours have a good round, seeing others who are inconsistent like myself makes me feel like I’m not alone. I went to the range earlier and it took at least 80 balls before I started to hit better so a valuable lesson was learned😄
Have you tried slowing your backswing down so you have more control through the swing
Thanks! I haven't really worked on my swing this season as I've been quite busy. Hoping to get some work done this winter and finally get a coach
Calm explanation. Subbed. My vids were of a similar style. Must start again. Beating Bogey Golf.
Thank you! Making videos can sometimes be a lot of work, but it can be a lot of fun. looking forward to seeing some new content from you.
The goose looks at you thinking, you're not gonna hit me right. lmao
They really don't care about golfers lol, they really should be more scared of me when I'm hitting!
What are you using for shot tracers please? Looks great! Brilliant video for us amateurs
Im a 27hcp so this is all relateable. Keep grinding.
The struggle is real. Let's keep at it.
I broke 100 with 44 hcp 😂 Practice most on the range. Started golf in Juli 2024. Played only 3 full 18 hole rounds. 😅
Grats on breaking 100 that quickly! Now to do it consistently is the harder part 😅
Good video . I feel your pain in inconsitency
Tell me about it. Let's keep grinding out there!
😂 I’m loving this. This is real golf!! Lol
Thanks! Look out for more videos from this season soon
If only you hit your practice swings!!
And that little jump-up on the chips/short pitches, I do that too. It ruins so many of my shots.
Good luck buddy.
So true! My last round I played, I stopped taking practice swings. Actually helped!
What app do you use for tracking ?
An app called "Shot Tracer", got it on the Play Store on my phone, I think it was 7$. It's not the most accurate tool, but it does let you adjust the shape of the tracer line.
Driver fix is simple, address the ball then move the head back 2 club heads back along the swing path THEN start the swing. This moves the low point inside and behind the ball.
Thank you for the tip, I'm going to try this the next time I whip out the driver!
Gotta keep that right elbow tucked. I struggle with it too as I’ve only started golfing a couple months ago. I’m 34 years old… 😅😅
I feel you, I only started playing golf last year...
Danny Maud is awesome, he has a great way of explaining things
@@fromduffertodriver agreed. I also enjoy watching golfers developing their skills such as yourself because I closely identify with them.
hi mate with the driver try gripping it so u can see ur top two knuckles on ur left hand so ur holding it quite on the top face of the grip so it feels like ur going to hook ur shot but you wont and it will feel good also try lower ur swing on the back swing instead of coming over the top as thats one of the main reasons of slicing but very good vid
Thanks, my driver has been killing me of late. I'll try changing my grip!
Thanks, I'll be working on my short game over the winter break 💪
This is me nearly every round. Consistently playing at about 100-105. My best round so far is a 92 but I keep plugging away.
My best round was a 94, it felt like all the stars aligned that day! Keep at it my friend.
Watching lots of TH-cam videos helped me a bunch 😅
Glad I could help
Thx for the vidéo :) allways cool to see other people like us :D I just see that you're allways aiming left of your target. Is there a reason for this?
I have a bad slice, especially with my driver. I tend to aim left because sometimes my shot will slice to the right. Working on it!
0:20-0:28. Thats me in a nutshell. im new too golf and i also dont take off my glove even when i putt. Its just 1 less thing to worry about for me. Seemed like ur hybrid was letting u down .
Yeah I don't bother taking off the glove for the same reason. I have the added pressure of trying to set up my camera on a tripod as well 😅
Way to lay it out there for all to see, warts and all.
This is so encouraging! Thanks for sharing :)
You are so welcome!
I have a few video ideas with some special guests planned for this coming season... should be a fun one! 😎
@@fromduffertodriver nice!
9:04 I would of missed after that
Usually, same here! My putting was on point this day 💪
Hoping to break 80 soon high handicapper as well trying to improve my iron and driver :(
Keep at it! Scoring 80 is hard
You're 100% right. It's really noticeable from the footage. I've been working on hitting down onto the ball, I'm slowly getting there!
love the videos man!
Thank you!
I like to think of it as getting my money’s worth out of the golf course
I know right? More strokes = more value!
As soon as i see that 3 wood from rough I knew you are legit.
Haha yeah that's what a real 27 handicap will think is a "good idea". In retrospect, it was really stupid, but I was so confident in the moment lol
Wow.. this looks exactly like my game 😅 what are you using for shot tracer and software programs.?
I'm using an app on my phone called "Shot Tracer", I think it was maybe 7$ or something like that. I take the videos on my phone, put them through the app to add/adjust the shot tracer line. Then throw it all back onto my laptop and use Adobe Premiere Pro to edit. Hope this helps!
This is my game right now. I cant hit an iron in the air to save my life. Ive been golfing for 25 years now and I dont play nearly enough. damn
It's hard to find time to hit the course. Keep at it 💪
Putting usually lets me down, too many 3 putts and too many topped shots. My last round was 93 though, my best for a couple of years.
93 is impressive, good round! I should really practice my putting over the winter to shave some strokes.
I need to be more careful about this. I do it when walking around the green all the time, I get tunnel vision, being so focused on my ball :(
Id like to know what clubs you are using if i may ask
I'll post a video on how it goes!
like all high handicappers you need to just grind chipping and putting and you'll be fine 👍👍
I really need to spend time working on these. I've done almost zero practice this year. Easily shave a bunch of strokes!
What clubs you using?
I used to just play the game with my slice. To fix my slice, i put my rear leg 4 inches back where im aiming. It worked for me.
Maybe try a 3 hybrid instead of that wood.
Yeah I avoid that 3 wood for now lol. I'm using Cobra Radspeed irons that I bought in the off season. My other clubs are a used hodgepodge mix. I'll see if moving my rear leg helps, thanks for the tip!
Great video, what software do you use to add the tracer for each shot?
Thanks! I use the app "Shot Tracer" on my phone from the app store, it's around 7$. I film on my phone and then add the tracers using the app.
I appreciate this very much. I am you..or you are me. The closest I've come is a 52 :( It's an addictive sport for sure.
Very addictive! Keep at it my friend and we will be shooting mid 40's 💪
nice man, i just broke 50 for the first time a few weeks ago. i shot 49 on a par 35. is there a part two or are you just doubling your score to break 100?
This time here I only played the front 9. The next video I'm posting is a full 18 holes where I break 100, despite falling apart on the last hole!
Somethings up with your right elbow. It gets stuck right? Very noticeable on your chipping. Work on it and cut 10 strokes.
Yeah my chipping looks alien to me when I watch it back on camera. I'm like "wtf am I doing?"
Set the club behind the ball, then set your feet.
You’re doing the opposite, which is likely the cause of your slice. 🤗🤗
This might help me a lot! I'll try this my next round, thank you!
How do i deal with miss swings and slices in my drive and irons
Take them one at a time my friend! Instead of hitting longest club, I'm trying to hit safest - so even if I mis-hit the ball it will still be in an ok position
I’ve been trying to break 100 for 20 years now. One of these days I’ll do it.
Keep at it my friend. I believe in you!
But when you do get a sweet spot hit, they are amazing. lol.
