- It's going to be exceptionally rare for me to do this but I'm testing one of Sigma's mirrorless lenses on two different camera systems for y'all: a Sony E-mount 24mp camera, and Canon's EOS M6 Mark ii, with its crazy 32.5mp sensor. This should be interesting!

Chris, can't remember if I ever bothered to put a comment before so if not then here it is. After a close family member passed away and left some money to me I decided to update my kit completely to a different system, from the very old and well used one I have had for many many years. All the four lenses I bought were based on all the reviews I watched on YOUR channel and were invaluable in my decision making. Your vids are simple to understand, informative and offer excellent comparisons and no doubt I will still be watching them even if I'm not due for any purchases in the foreseeable future. i'm confused about the comments regarding the lenses external appearance, I think it's a beautiful and minimalist lens design
I’ll second that sentiment! It has a minimalistic beauty-almost Scandanavian or German.
I love Sigma’s aesthetics
They make some of the best looking lenses
it screams plastic & rubber. no soul in the design. minimalist yes, but it doesn't fit the with the complex look of cameras. Nikon's primes for example are similarly ugly.
It looks cheap and feels cheap. It affects the feel of the photographer alot
@@tridinh1011 I will respectfully disagree. I own this lens and I do not find it bothering my photography.
It obviously does not look nor feel premium, thats for the Art series that goes beyond the $800 mark.
But it certainly does not feel cheap, and aesthetically goes well with small cameras.
And I like my stuff looking good too, I own Fuji lenses. I have Canon glass and I've had Sony glass too and some of their cheaper offerings do feel cheap compared to this Sigma lens.

I would really like to see a behind the scenes video when you are testing lenses.
Some things I can understand, but lighting and size / length to test chart would be good to know.
Is the test chart some print you have done yourself ?
It would be awesome to be able to replicate your test at home, and compare old vintage lenses to the new stuff.
The consistency and repeatability is very nice, and you are building up a very nice catalogue.

A must have lens for apsc shooters imo. i have it myself and has been a very useful/versatile lens for me. it's great for travel, street, and portrait photography.

All the recent YT and written reviews of this lens have been very positive.
It needs to be remembered that when this lens would have been in its design stages, its target market would have been the Sony a6000 series.
As such, its performance with the 20mp sensor is perhaps a little fairer.
Given the dearth of native glass for the Sony apsc range, it is my understanding that this lens has, and continues, to sell very strongly to Sony apsc owners and now perhaps Canon and limited other mirrorless owners.
at last.. thnx for the review! The lower than expected corner performance might be due to field curvature as you have a completely level subject. Real life photos of landscapes at f8 are incredibly sharp in the corners too.

I’d love this in a Fuji mount, doesn’t seem likely so here’s hoping the upcoming Viltrox 33 1.4 is as good as the 85 was and as cheap as the rumors say.
Honestly, that Viltrox will likely perform at least as well as this one... image quality and bokeh aren't that exciting. And at least the Viltrox will have an aperture ring.
Hi, good morning! Can you enable in camera corrections for this lense?
i own all three Sigma DC DN e-mount lenses, the 16mm and 56mm are both absolutely wonderful but i find myself not packing this one along as much, and kind of miss my old Sony 35f1.8 (sadly stolen). the autofocus is indeed noticeably weaker than all those others, and the fringing is quite bad. i was curious if this Canon update might improve anything and it seems like autofocus is where it should be, if no other areas. thanks for the continued excellence and consistency in your reviews!

I own this lens for the Sony A6300 and I do fully agree with your review. I was blown away when I saw that it perfectly resolves fine features like hair down to the pixel sensors at F1.4. I think it also does so mid-frame, only the very corners are weak.
On the other hand the barrel distortion pretty much kills it for anything that is supposed to have straight lines. Architecture photography is pretty much impossible. At least in Capture One I was not able to get a satisfactory correction for the barrel distortion. For some reason, even Sigma's own 16mm F1.4 seems to have less distortion while being much wider!
Just a honest review not like all the other overhype on TH-cam. This is a reasonably priced lens and the performance is just about right. But nothing spectacular or out of this world.
Christopher, please compare this with the EF-M 32mm 1.4. Happy New Year !
I bought this lens for my Fuji X-S10 when it was on sale brand new for $265. At that price it is an absolute steal. A wonderfully sharp lens

I have the 30mm f/1.4 but, don't use it as often as I previously did. The Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 lives on my cameras...

Really enjoy your content and find it very informative and practical. Did you ever face issues with the autofocus during photography.? I keep hearing on line that it only nails the focus 70 percent of times and 30 percent of times you are left with major focus issues.
It did have focusing problems when it was just released, but has been somewhat resolved with a firmware update. Newer Sony bodies should also improve it’s AF performance; closer to, but not at the level of Sony native lenses.
I've bought a 35mm F2 IS used for my Canon APSC (EF Mount) I really like it and if i only can take one lense with me i would probably choose it over any zooms but it is tricky to get a wider picture as it is essentialy a 56mm lense relatively speaking on my apsc. But it is light, small, very sharp and has IS thus allowing stopping down under lower light situations to get a deeper DOF. ... this 1.4 would be very interesting on EF if i didnt already had my 35
unfortunately, this lens only fits Canon ef-m mounts (or Sony-e), not ef. Nice to hear you're using the 35mm f2 is usm, I've got one too and it's awesome

I bought this lens 2 months ago. The build quality is actually very premium. It does the job very well and everything works great. Anyone who wonders if they should buy it or not, I say go for it. I recommend it! I bought it for my Sony A6000 as a 35mm replacer, because 35mm lenses are way to expensive... let's be honest. This 30mm was way less expensive than any 35mm available and all the less expensive 35mm's options are only with F1.8. This Sigma 30mm has F1.4
How do you feel about this lens vs the Viltrox 33mm f1.4? I currently have the Viltrox but am wondering if re-selling and buying the new Sigma for Fuji would give some improvement!

FINALLY!
Odd, the 30/1.4 was considered the sharpest lens for Sony E-mount when it was released way back when.
It is a contemporary, not art lens. Nothing is odd. Sigma know their product.
That was in 2016. Even this lens's brothers 16mm and 56mm are better optically, sharper with less chromatic aberration.

I used both the EFM32 1.4 and the 30 1.4 Sony E version, while the 32 1.4 is a near perfect lens, on Sony bodies without the AA filter the 30 1.4 may look even sharper except in the corners

Did you know that the Cosmicar/Pentax or Computar/Kowa 75mm lenses in C mount, will cover the APS sensor? F/1.4 or 1.3. And the Fujinon 50mm f/1.2.

How's the sunstars on this lens? Its transmissibility seems to be better than Canon's 32mm (as seen on a video by Todd Dominey) and I might buy it for night street photography to accompany the 16mm.

Does the sony lens distortion correction fix the barrel distortion?
For a Canon EF-M sytem, the native 32mm is better. On the Canon M6 II I would buy the 16mm Sigma, because it doesn't have equivalent. The 56 also. This one is far less compelling.
With the particularly high density sensor in the M6 Mk. II, any thoughts on re-reviewing some of the lenses that you own or have easy access to in order to see if they still hold up compared to when you tested them on 20 and 24 megapixel cameras? I certainly understand if you don't wish to do so, as that might be a chore.

Great review! I have one question. I bought a M100, and I've been using the kit lenses, the 15-45mm one. For me who never had a proper camera before it's awesome. I've dialed all settings I could to make the colors to my prefference, trying to match irl colors with my monitor using Photoshop's RAW tool, all colors seem spot on on my profile... except for greens (and maybe some shades of red). I do painting on canvas and my green ones are always pale bluish instead of a strong emerald green they are, so I need a drastically different profile for these, but then every other photo is too green. I was thinking in getting this Sigma, but I wanted to know from your experience, since I want a more accurate color out of the box, wich lenses should I get? Or if I want a better color reproduction I should get something else? Thanks alot!

Do you think this would work with a Sony a7iii? I have Canon m mount and thinking of having swapped to Sony e mount by sigma but I am unsure if it would work on a full frame camera
You’d have to use crop mode on A7iii, leaving you with about 10MP instead of 24MP.
Hope you'll review the zeiss 24mm 1.8 for e mount sometime ...
Best lens by a wide margin I have had for my Sony a6300 IMO. Really happy with it and wonder how it would review 🤔
Rather than that I'd rather have Chris review the upcoming viltrox 1.4 trio. 24 zeiss is overpriced lens

Nope
On Sony its must have, but canon is really good at pricing the eos m system, so native 32 1.4 is not much more expensive. Lens like 32 1.4 can be costs 600 or even 700 dollars If it was Fuji, micro 4/3 or Sony. But Eos M is just small, modest system, without claiming to be a luxury or "Pro" :)
How will this lens do on the Canon M50?
Between this 30mm and Sigma's 16mm, which would you recommend for travel & to compliment the Sony's zoom kit lens 18-135mm?
The 30mm
I have Sigma 16 mm and 18-135mmm. Sony Zoom lens is great for travel but only on the day when the weather is good, it is just dark but very versatile and handy. So is good as second lens. Sigma 16 mm is heavier by which it is not well balanced with the body but is very sharp a piece of glass.
@Christopher Frost Photography, is it worth to pay more money for canon version. I have M6 mk II for one week, and this camera is really good. What me surprised is high ISO performance. Noise looks very pleasant. And if you not looking at pixel level it is almost not visible. I see this sensor on pixel level is very demanding. But in general I do not see any issues with sharpness on efm 22, sigma 17-50, 55-250 stm. Pictures look good.
So is it really worth those 150€ for canon 32mm f1.4? Do you plan to test this on your new 32mpx sensor?

Thank you, I have ordered canon version already. Reasons: Smaller, native, less chromatic aberrations, sharper, better distortions, closer minimum focus distance. Cons: more expensive, slower focus, no lens hood. :) So waiting it now.

You will get strong vignetting around the edges, because this lens is designed for APS-C cameras, not full-frame
What I can't seem to understand is if the same lens fits both Canon and Sony? If not, which feature should I look at when ordering it for Canon? I was hoping to find an answer in this video but maybe I was just not listening carefully.
Same lens, but different mount. Look for the Canon EF-M mount instead of E mount for Sony.
This one is also available in the L mount.
There's nothing close to the efm32 1.4, I sold mine when I switched to Sony and I got the Sigma.

You own an EF-mount camera. This is an EF-M lens - it won't fit. You should read your camera's instruction manual so you know which lenses to buy
This lens is useful for the price its worth ($250) , but there are many options out there .. I personally replaced this lens with the sony 28mm and the 20mm pancake

sigma 30mm has bad rolling shutter , compared to sigma 16mm or sony 28m

Is the Micro 4/3 version of this lens 30mm 4/3 equivalent or is it around 45mm then?
On Sony APS-C it is equivalent to 45mm full frame. On Canon APS-C it is equivalent to 48mm. On micro 4/3 it is 60mm equivalent

By the looks of it. I think I'll be saving a little longer and getting the EF-M 32mm.
I would love to see a direct comparison on that M6-Mrk2 though.
I think the Canon lens is a fair bit better and seems sharp from f/1.4, even in the corners. I would also like to see the performance on an the M6 Mark II, but I'm saving up for one.
Biggest selling point of course is the AF from canon to me still, love the STM and AF on Canon newer bodies when shooting video

yes it is sharper and smaller but the cheapest you can find it in EU is 500 euros.
I have the 32mm 1.4 and found it sharper in the centre and especially in the corners. One of the best lenses on any system and a must on EF-M. The Sigma is good; the Canon is great.
