    After getting the Sigma 16mm and 56mm, I chose the 32mm Canon lens. Wow... it really is worth the price! I am so happy with it.

      That's the ideal ef-m lens line up

    The other big difference between the 2 lenses is video autofocus speed. For photos, they’re about the same. For video, the Sigma is noticeably faster. Another thing to consider is ND filters. The Sigma is a bit easier to find ND filters, but the 43mm thread on the Canon makes it a bit more difficult. Lastly, if you’re using a compact gimbal like the Crane M2, you’ll be better off with the Canon lens because the weight of the Sigma 30mm is a bit too much.

    I’ve used the Sigma 1.4 before, and it’s definitely a great lens.ill have to try Canons

    I think testing sharpness requires minimal focus distance, medium focus distance, infinity three scenarios. Lenses change behaviour quite significantly ,optimized for infinity or not may impact a buying decision

    Great review man - Sigma always seems to be the bang for your buck type lenses that will get you 95% there, but for the professional who makes a living from it, it's worth going a little higher end I think.

      For typical use cases for this lens the sharpness in the corners or edges probably isn't going to matter, since the subject will be in the center, and everything else will contained a blurred out background anyway.

    Good review, I bought the Canon 32mm before the Sigmas were available in M mount and for my use, it is an excellent lens that I really enjoy using. If I were buying today, well I like Sigma they are always excellent quality and value for money, I suspect that I would buy the Sigma and save the cash for another lens.

    I'm learning so much from your videos man thanks so much for the effort, quality and clarity you give us with the easy to understand information.
    My question, I'm building a TH-cam channel focusing on app reviews and product unboxings in the classic top down overhead shot.
    I'm using the M50 at 4K 24fps so the huge crop factor is causing me a problem as I'm using the kit lens. The other issue I face is my room has little natural light so even with a lighting set up, the low light performance on that kit lens doesn't cut it.
    The first mistake I made was buying a Viltrox speedbooster as it doesn't fit the kit lens so I'm sending it back.
    The second mistake was buying the 22M F/2 as although it fixes the low light issue, I still have the huge crop problem when shooting at 4K.
    Given the type of video I am trying to create and mainly to fix the crop issue whilst retaining that great low light performance, can I get the results I need with the Sigma 30mm? As it's within my budget or is the Sigma 16mm the only option for me?
    Or do you have any better suggestions?

    Not sure the Canon 32mm is worth $200 more, but it’s definitely the better lens (unless you want that super fast AF for video).

    • @todanrg3
      @todanrg3 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Canon is deliberately slowed down for video to offer smooth transition between focus points which looks better on video than quick jumps

    • @bryanbuff
      @bryanbuff 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      blackcoffee Yeah, I realize that. I know the Canon is capable of faster autofocus (just look at how fast it is for photos), so it would be nice if there was a way to choose between cinematic or fast AF. I have both lens and I tend to use the Canon more because it’s a little sharper, and smaller/lighter.

  • @martaki1981
    @martaki1981 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    it's already a great video, though missing on low light test which other than getting the bokeh effect is another reason people getting such a fast lens.

      I have the m50 with the kit lens and the 55-200mm. Just used the 22mm f2 at my first wedding. Its great. But from my research the 32mm 1.4f canon is a must for such shoots. And the 32 just has amazing results from every video I watch

    I already have the Sigma 16mm & 56mm. I love both of them for my Canon M50. I am starting to need lense, which bridges the gap between both. Atm I am leaning towards the Canon lense. Did you see a difference in image stabilization? The Canon lens should have better stabilization, right?

    When you put them one next to the other in size, it makes a difference and the sharpness is very noticeable.
    But it all depends on what you use it for.
